Opis:
A questionnaire inquiry on response to wind turbine noise was carried out on 361 subjects living in the vicinity of 8 wind farms. Current mental health status of respondents was assessed using Goldberg General Health Questionnaire GHQ-12. For areas where respondents lived, A-weighted sound pressure levels (SPLs) were calculated as the sum of the contributions from the wind power plants in the specific area. Generally, 33.0% of respondents were annoyed outdoors by wind turbine noise at the calculated A-weighted SPL of 31–50 dB, while indoors the noise was annoying to 21.3% of them. The propor- tion of subjects evaluating the noise produced by operative wind turbines as annoying decreased with increasing the distance from the nearest wind turbine (27.6% at the distance of 400–800 m vs 14.3% at the distance above 800 m, p < 0.016). On the other hand, the higher was the noise level, the greater was the percentage of annoyed respondents (14.0% at SPL up to 40 dB vs 28.1% at SPL of 40–45 dB, p < 0.016). Besides noise and distance categories, subjective factors, such as general attitude to wind turbines, sensitivity to landscape littering and current mental health status, were found to have significant impact on the perceived annoyance. About 50% of variance in annoyance rating might be explained by the aforesaid subjective factors.

Opis:
Wind is such an element of sea environment, from which it is relatively easy to obtain energy. Wind parameters over both seas and oceans are more favorable than those on land (due to variability of landform features). Moreover, also sea wind turbines exercise comparatively smaller negative effect on people than on land. Therefore, sea wind farms are ahead of us, as further development of wind energy. The article presents basic parameters of wind turbines, possible installations on sea bed, as well as future designs of large floating sea farms. The article presents also an example of design analyses of wind turbine, using computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

Opis:
According to the authors’ hypothesis generation of high intensity noise is caused by generation of vorticity structures inducing velocities that can be locally higher than the velocity of sound. The localization and magnitude of vorticity concentration can be precisely defined on the basis of a double layer vortex model. Knowing the localization and mechanism of generation of significantly high induced velocities, turbine blades can be shaped in such a way so as to decrease the concentration of vorticity in these zones. According to the hypothesis described in this paper, a modification of turbine blades at the design stage results in their quieter operation for higher loads and wind velocities. The authors base their hypothesis on the experience from design works concerning low noise ship propellers. The following paper focuses on these tasks.

Opis:
Wind energy is well known as a renewable energy because its clean and less polluted characteristic, which is the foundation of development modern wind electricity. To find more efficient wind turbine is the focus of scientists around the world. Compared from conventional wind turbines, superconducting wind turbine generators have advantages at zero resistance, smaller size and lighter weight. Superconducting wind turbine will inevitably become the main trends in this area. This paper intends to introduce the basic concept and principle of superconductivity, and compare form traditional wind turbine to obtain superiority, then to summary three proposed machine concept. While superconductivity have difficulty in modern technology and we also have proposed some challenges in achieving superconducting wind turbine finally.

Opis:
Wind energy is one of the most environmentally friendly energy industries. Wind power is used in more than 70 countries of the world to produce electricity. Wind power plants generate more than 1% of the world’s electricity. Wind energy is considered to be one of the most popular renewable energy sources. In countries where this energy is already widely used, the environmental conditions substantially improve. To increase the efficiency of wind power plants and work reliability, and also to solve other problems, it is necessary to carry out climate research on wind energy and collect information on the distribution of wind energy depending on wind speed profiles, etc.

Opis:
In recent years wind energy is the fastest growing branch of the power generation industry. The largest cost for the wind turbine is its maintenance. A common technique to decrease this cost is a remote monitoring based on vibration analysis. Growing number of monitored turbines requires an automated way of support for diagnostic experts. As full fault detection and identification is still a very challenging task, it is necessary to prepare an “early warning” tool, which would focus the attention on cases which are potentially dangerous. There were several attempts to develop such tools, in most cases based on various classification methods. As the ART neural networks are capable to perform efficient classification and to recognize new states when necessary, they seems to be a proper tool for classification of vibration signals of bearing in gears in wind turbines. The verification of ART-2 networks efficiency in this task is the topic of this paper.

Opis:
Objectives: The overall aim of this study was to evaluate the perception of and annoyance due to the noise from wind turbines in populated areas of Poland. Material and Methods: The study group comprised 156 subjects. All subjects were asked to fill in a questionnaire developed to enable evaluation of their living conditions, including prevalence of annoyance due to the noise from wind turbines and the self-assessment of physical health and well-being. In addition, current mental health status of the respondents was assessed using Goldberg General Health Questionnaire GHQ-12. For areas where the respondents lived, A-weighted sound pressure levels (SPLs) were calculated as the sum of the contributions from the wind power plants in the specific area. Results: It has been shown that the wind turbine noise at the calculated A-weighted SPL of 30-48 dB was noticed outdoors by 60.3% of the respondents. This noise was perceived as annoying outdoors by 33.3% of the respondents, while indoors by 20.5% of them. The odds ratio of being annoyed outdoors by the wind turbine noise increased along with increasing SPLs (OR = 2.1; 95% CI: 1.22-3.62). The subjects' attitude to wind turbines in general and sensitivity to landscape littering was found to have significant impact on the perceived annoyance. About 63% of variance in outdoors annoyance assessment might be explained by the noise level, general attitude to wind turbines and sensitivity to landscape littering. Conclusions: Before firm conclusions can be drawn further studies are needed, including a larger number of respondents with different living environments (i.e., dissimilar terrain, different urbanization and road traffic intensity).

The results represent the first attempt of the numerical analysis of 3-D secondary flows formed in the linear turbine cascade wind tunnel. Numerical simulations were carried out by means of the SPRC code. It was possible to make presented here calculations thanks to the cluster of PC's providing sufficient computational resources. In order to be able to verify the obtained results the case considered is the workshop test case (D.G.Gregory-Smith 1994 Turbomachinery Workshop Test Case No.3 116). It has been shown that the obtained results are in a very good agreement with experiment. It gave confidence in the results and several important conclusions concerning the development of streamwise vortices could be made thanks to the work carried out.
