Opis:
The paper presents the project of land protection from erosion in Wola Idzikowska village. Because of the type of soils and topography, about 37% of the land is threatened by medium and strong water erosion. Due to the lack of windbreak barriers, 70% of the area is threatened by wind erosion. In Wola Idzikowska village in the years of 2004–2006 land consolidation was conducted. Anti-erosion protection systems were designed but never realized. The assessment of causes of this condition, as well as new system of anti-erosion phyto-control works have been done. Afforestation of about 4.1 hectares of land, mostly fallow lands and wastelands was designed. The possibility of introducing 7.60 kilometers of shelterbelts as a windbreak barriers was also shown.

Opis:
Sandy-gravel accumulations are frequent features on the plateaux of the Serra da Estrela II and other granitic mountains in Portugal. Their genesis has been attributed to both eolian and water processes and a detailed sedimentological study is needed to better understand the mechanisms involved. The present paper provides results obtained from the heavy mineral analysis and optical and scanning electron microscope study of samples from two sandy-gravel accumulations from the Serra da Estrela. The results indicate that the finer fractions of the original sediment have been illuviated. A well-sorted surface layer and poorly sorted subsurface of the accumulation have resulted from this process. A very short duration of eolian processes is evident from the analysis. Although wind seems to have been the responsible for the morphology of the accumulation, its action was not enough to produce significant abrasion in the surface of quartz grains.

Opis:
A methodology was developed in order to estimate wind erosion by comparing the differences in soil loss with a 3D laser scanner inside a wind tunnel, to relate the change in soil micro-relief to soil loss. We evaluated the effectiveness of a low-cost laser scanner in a wind tunnel for examining the winddependent variation in soil surface micro-topography, thereby enabling soil wind erosion to be quantified both quickly and accurately. We, therefore, studied the effect of soil crusting in an intensive horticultural crop, low-tilled soil (once a year) in cereal cultivation, and tilled soil (several times a year) in an ecological citrus orchard, paying attention to the changes occurring when soils are tilled. Moreover, we observed an aggregation effect of CaCO3 in the wind-erodible fraction, a protective effect of surface stoniness against a direct impact of wind and the incidence of soil particle content. Different behaviour, in terms of random roughness, is due to more stones and/or remnant vegetation being highly resistant to wind in Calcisol, Cambisol, Fluvisol and Arenosol plots, thus increasing surface roughness. In Anthrosol and Leptosol plots, on the contrary, initial roughness was due to large unstable and wind-eroded aggregates which resulted in a decreased surface roughness.

Opis:
Land consolidations represent a unique tool for managing the problems of the rural space. They help to settle the land property rights and meet the current requirements associated with the protection and formation of a stable, permanently sustainable rural landscape. In the Czech Republic, complex land consolidations have been completed in 1,965 cadastral areas out of the total 13,100, and in 2,134 more they are in the preparation phase (up to 1st September 2015). It means that about 60% of cadastral areas in CR still await land consolidation. Our study aimed to localize the priority localities (cadastral areas and regions) for preferential implementation of land consolidation. The authors selected three thematic factors to determine the risk of their occurrence in particular localities and, consequently, the need to initiate the land consolidation. The analysis is based on the assumption that the cadastral areas where land consolidations have been completed or are under way have already dealt with the above-mentioned risk factors or will do so soon. Therefore, such areas have not been included into our study. The key selected thematic factors relevant for the preferential implementation of land consolidation include: the risk of water and wind erosion in arable land, water management, and water retention in the landscape. For each of these three factors, a map of preferential localities (based on the degree of risk/suitability) was processed for initiation of land consolidation. At the same time, a simple multi-criteria analysis of the extent of the Czech Republic’s erosion (water and wind) has been prepared. The result of this analysis is the ranking of regions according to the degree of risk of erosion. The most vulnerable regions of the Czech Republic include Jihomoravský (South Moravian Region), Středočeský (Central Bohemia) and Pardubice.

Opis:
Wind erosion is one of the major environmental problems in semi-arid and arid regions. Here we established a transect from northwest (Tariat, Mongolia) to southeast (Xilingol, Inner Mongolia of China) across the Mongolian Plateau, and selected eight sampling sites along the transect. We then estimated the soil wind erosion rates by using the 137Cs tracing technique and examined their spatial dynamics. In the Mongolia section (from Tariat to Sainshand), the wind erosion rate increased gradually with vegetation type and climatic regimes; the wind erosion process was controlled by physical factors such as annual precipitation and vegetation coverage, etc. While in the China section (Inner Mongolia), the wind erosion rates of Xilinhot, Zhengxiangbai Banner and Taipusi Banner were thrice as much as those of Bayannur of Mongolia, although these four sites were all dominated by typical steppe. Besides the physical factors, higher population density and livestock carrying level should be responsible for the higher wind erosion rates in these regions of Inner Mongolia.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań intensywności erozji eolicznej Płaskowyżu Mongolskiego, określonej na podstawie ośmiu prób gruntu pobranego wzdłuż transektu o długości około 1400 km, przebiegającego przez teren Mongolii i Chin. Do oceny intensywności erozji wykorzystano technikę oznaczania 137Cs w wierzchnich warstwach gruntu do głębokości 30 cm.

Opis:
The decrease in the agricultural efficiency is associated with the influence of wind erosion, the consequence of which is a decrease in the soil fertility. Significant effects of wind erosion are typical of the arid and semi arid zones with a small amount of precipitation, high air temperature and degree of evaporation, reinforced by strong winds and low differentiation of plant protection. It has been proven that the intensity of the effects of deflation processes depends on the physical and geographical conditions of the distribution of agricultural land, systematic soil protection activities and the availability of vegetation. It has been established that the acceleration of the deflation processes occurs in the territories with increased anthropogenic pressure, which leads to ecological disturbance of the natural balance characterizing territorial ecosystems. In the course of the studies it was found that the natural processes of wind erosion are significantly enhanced by the absence of a scientifically-based and ecological land development system of agriculture, which leads to destruction of the soil cover, reduction of soil fertility, damage to the agricultural crops and, thus, the economic damage. As a result of application of the GIS and ERS technologies, the empirical-statistical model of the possible soil loss due to wind erosion in the territory of the Steppe zone of Ukraine, it has been found that in the course of the deflation processes in the territory taken by naked fallow upon the absence of the conditions for the deflation resistance activities, the value of soil loss at the epicenter of dust storms can reach about 600 t / ha. Studies proved the importance of the deflation resistant action of the vegetation cover, which tends to an increase in the erosion dangerous (favorable) areas of agricultural land by 1.7 times, which reduces the soil loss by 5.62 times. In accordance with the intensity of the effects of the deflation processes and the increase of the soil losses, the contour and land development deflation resistance activities with elements of soil protection agriculture were proposed.

The paper presents some environmental impacts caused by two important factors of physical degradation of the soil, i.e., soil surface sealing/crusting phenomena and soil compaction. It can be concluded that despite numerous literature on the subject as well as the Authors' own data collected in model laboratory and field experiments, it is still difficult to judge to what extent the effects of those two processes are negative for both the soil environment and the plant growth.

Opis:
Water and wind erosion are the most powerful factors in the decrease of soil fertility and a threat to food security. The study was conducted on the steppe zone in Ukraine (total area of 167.4 thous. km2), including agricultural land (131.6 thous. km2). At the first stage, the modeling of spatial differentiation of water and wind erosion manifestations was carried out to calculate losses of soil (Mg∙ha–1) and to determine their degradation. At the second stage, soil-climatic bonitet of zonal soils (points) is carried out to determine their natural fertility (Mg∙ha–1). At the third stage, the spatial adjustment of the natural soil fertility to the negative effect of erosion was carried out. This made it possible to calculate crop losses and total financial losses due to water and wind erosion. The integrated spatial modeling showed that about 68.7% of arable land was constantly affected by the combined erosion, in particular the area of low eroded arable land (16.8%), and medium and highly eroded land (22.1%). Due to erodibility of soil, about 23.3% of agricultural land transferred from the category of high and medium quality to medium, low and very low quality, which is caused by the loss of soil fertility of up to 70%, crop losses of up to 1.93 Mg∙ha–1 ha–1 and eduction of agricultural income up to 390 USD∙ha–1. In the steppe region under the research, gross crop losses from erosion were up to 15.11 thous. Mg∙ha–1 (3.05 mln USD). In order to protect soils, improve fertility and increase crop yields in the steppe zone in Ukraine, the following measures were suggested: adaptive and landscape erosion control design with elements of conservation farming in accordance with the spatial differentiation of soil quality and extent of water erosion deflation danger.

Opis:
In this study, the effectiveness of cellulose polymer mulch (CPM) on sand stabilization was evaluated in two kinds of experiment: laboratory and field. Erodibility index in wind tunnel, compressive strength, abrasion resistance, impact resistance and the thickness of layers formed using a solution with various CPM content were measured in the laboratory experiment. According to the results obtained in this part of study, the highest impact resistance and the least erodibility index value were achieved when using the solution with a concentration of 30 % (30 % CPM and 70 % water). In the field experiments, the resistance of mulch used in the amount of 10 and 5 t/ha in sand dunes of Kashan deserts (central Iran) and its impact on the survival and establishment of seedlings and cuttings of Calligonum were investigated over a year. The results showed that CPM has a positive effect on plant establishment. The highest survival was reported for 10 t/ha of mulch treatment in planting with seedlings method.
Oceniano skuteczność roztworów polimerowego mulczu celulozowego (CPM) stosowanego do stabilizacji piasku. Przeprowadzono dwa rodzaje badań: w laboratorium i w terenie.

Analysis of hydrometeorological data and of hypsometric measurements of the Hel Peninsula shore from the years 1989-1997 allowed determination of statistical relationships between averaged hydrometeorological parameters and morphological parameters of the shore. The significant relationship found between mean wind speed and sea level allowed an evaluation of their influence on the Peninsula 's shore. It is shown that long-term sealevel changes result in much stronger reaction of the shore than changes of wind speed. Quantitative relationships between the changes of hydrometeorological factors and the progress of erosion of dune coasts are presented on the example of the Hl Peninsula.

Deep understanding on the impacts of leading edge erosion on the performance and flow characteristics of wind turbines is significant for the blade design and wind farms manage- ment. Pitting erosion and three levels of delamination are considered in the present study. The results show that the degrees of leading edge erosion have great influence on the flow separation, tangential force coefficient, normal force coefficient as well as the power output of the wind turbine. Leading edge erosion has the greatest impact on aerodynamics of the wind turbine at 15m/s, where the maximum loss in the power output can reach up to 73.26%.
