The average daily values of wind speed and wind gust speed in the years 2001–2018 in Siedlce were analyzed. In the study area, the frequency of individual wind directions was determined and, according to criteria set by the Government Centre for Security, the frequency of hazards from damaging wind gusts was evaluated. The following wind gusts were considered: >20 m/s, 25 m/s and 35 m/s. It was found that, in the Siedlce area, the prevailing wind direction was west-south-westerly (WSW), and the average annual wind speed in the long-term study period was 2.99 m/s. March, April and May were the months when the highest speeds of maximum wind gusts (>35 m/s) were recorded. Extreme wind gusts the speed of which poses a hazard to the environment, national economy as well as human life and health, occurred in both the cold and warm seasons of the year.

Renewable energies have the potential to provide relatively clean energy, mostly for domestic energy. Wind power generation is expected to rise in the near future and has grown exponentially over the past decade in many countries. The most important parameter that must be taken into consideration when designing and studying wind power conversion systems is the wind speed. Probability density functions (PDF) such as Weibull is often used in wind speed and wind power analyses. This research presents an assessment of wind power based on the Weibull distribution statistics in the coastal of southern Iraq at Basrah province. Wind speed data for the study site were obtained from NASA at a height of 50 m for the period 1979–2016 with a time interval of 10 min. The data at a height of 50 m were extrapolated using the power law in order to estimate the wind speed at new heights: 30, 70 and 100 m. The different parameters of the Weibull function as well as the daily and monthly wind speeds, mean, variance and potential energy at four altitudes were estimated and analysed using Windographer software. Results indicate that the maximum wind speed at 100 m is 6.4 m·s–1, giving an average power density of 298 W·m–2, which indicates that the location of the study has marginal and useless potential for installing large wind turbines.

Wind is such an element of sea environment, from which it is relatively easy to obtain energy. Wind parameters over both seas and oceans are more favorable than those on land (due to variability of landform features). Moreover, also sea wind turbines exercise comparatively smaller negative effect on people than on land. Therefore, sea wind farms are ahead of us, as further development of wind energy. The article presents basic parameters of wind turbines, possible installations on sea bed, as well as future designs of large floating sea farms. The article presents also an example of design analyses of wind turbine, using computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

Opis:
Dependence on hydro-meteorological conditions in the test area is an “Achilles’ heel” of physical experiment used for assessment of ship manoeuvrability. Aerodynamic forces and moments generated on the ship upperworks distort significantly the measured values. The paper presents new testing tool in the form of physical simulation of wind effect enabling quantitative evaluation of distortion of the measurement results. Another feature of the system enabling compensation of real atmospheric conditions prevailing during the experiment is also presented. The wind effects simulation arrangement includes board data acquisition and processing system, automatic control system and executive system consisting of industrial fans.

The following paper discusses several aspects connected with the wind farms’ impact on radiocommunication systems. The first part of this article is filled with the analysis of the ITU-R BT.1893 model, which was originally created for the analysis of the interaction between the wind turbines and digital TV receivers in the UHF band. A measurement campaign carried out by the authors confirmed that this model is also applicable for the lower, maritime VHF band. Utilizing the software implementation of this model, the authors conducted a thorough simulation analysis of the wind turbines’ influence on radio systems working in both VHF and UHF bands. The results of these simulations are presented and discussed in the second part of the paper.

Almost every voyage culminates in a manoeuvre to berth the ship safely along a quay or wharf. During this phase a ship is affected by a number of factors, one of them being wind. This paper seeks to understand how wind affect a ship in regards of power consumption during berthing. A field study was conducted on a car passenger ferry, where every approach in one harbour was logged and analysed over a period of four months. The goal was to provide greater knowledge about energy usage and the study presents several interesting findings. It is estimated that power consumption is stable when the median wind speed is less than 4 m/s. Stronger winds have a significant effect on power consumption, e.g 17 m/s gives an 106,31% increase from calm conditions. Furthermore there is not discovered any correlation between consumption and wind direction in this study.

The work presents a description of wind speed and direction in terms of using wind power as a renewable energy source. The wind power in Poland and at the Zawady EF was characterised. Observations were collected from 2002 to 2006 by an automatic meteorological station installed at the Zawady Experimental Farm (EF). Average monthly and yearly frequencies of winds blowing from individual directions were determined, and the average monthly wind speed was analysed. The most frequently recorded wind speed ranged from 2 to 4 m/s (light wind), and the least frequent winds blew at the speed of more than 10 m/s (strong wind). The cold season of the year saw winds blowing at the greatest speed (December, January and February), it being the lightest in the summer months (June, July and August). Wind rose analysis (2002–2006) revealed that at Zawady Experimental Farm, the westerly wind was the most frequent. A wind turbine has a limited capacity of wind power use, so only a small portion of energy supplied by wind may be converted into usable energy.

Until recently, horizontal-axial wind turbines with blades having a wing profile occupied a predominant position in the world wind energy market. But currently, vertical-axial wind units are of increasing interest and this is understandable from the point of view of their important features as: no requirements for the orientation of the wind turbine to the wind, the possibility of placing electrical and other equipment on the ground, no requirements for changes of blade chord installation angle along its length. The article discusses the aerodynamics of the vertical-axis wind turbines: the range of changes of angles of incoming flow attack on the blade, the dynamics of changes in the magnitude of the absolute speed of flow of the blade on a circular trajectory of its movement depending on the turbine rapidity, and also obtained in experiments interaction effect of the blades in the rotor. The experiments were carried out on wind turbines with original blades (basic version), which were designed to eliminate the shortcomings of low-speed rotors Savonius (low coefficient of use of wind energy) and high-speed rotors Darrieus (lack of self-start).

This article indicates the development trends in the construction of offshore wind turbines worldwide, and the characteristics of existing and planned ships for wind turbine installation and maintenance; it presents an approach to design ports with their future operations in mind. Problem: The safety of navigation in port waterways is the basic restrictions for the construction of harbors (terminals) to handle ships used for the construction of OWT and for increasing their size. Navigational risk is a criterion of navigational safety assessment that allows its accurate estimation in port waterways. Method: The article presents the method for dimensioning port waterways for ships serving offshore sea wind turbine transport and construction. Furthermore, a method for determining the navigational risk of jack-up vessels navigating in port waterway areas is presented. Results: The authors have determined conditions for safe operation of these ships in restricted areas and defined the basic condition of navigational safety. The presented method of navigational risk analysis refers to the departure of a loaded ship carrying offshore wind turbine components in the presently designed port terminal in Świnoujście for handling offshore wind farm projects. Conclusion: These are universal methods that can be applied to the design of ports serving vessels that install offshore wind turbines in various types of waters.

The following paper covers a method for wind turbine selection with a horizontal axis of rotation basing on real in-field measurements of wind conditions. The basic meteorological properties and characteristics obtained during measurement campaigns using necessary equipment as well as the used methodology are vital for successful investment in wind farm. The main goal of in-field investigation is to collect meteorological data using a measurement mast installed at the possible future wind farm location. The conducted measurement campaign provided wind directions, velocities and wind blast parameters. The measurements were conducted in the northern Poland using measuring system installed on 100 meter high mast. The system was equipped with all devices necessary to measure and record the basic wind parameters. The reliability of measurements was verified using statistical data for the Weitbull distribution and the wind rose. In this way, the energy potential of raw air stream that could possibly drive a wind turbine was determined. Among 6 pre-selected wind turbine types, the optimal one for a given location was proposed.

The following paper presents a methodology of wind turbines selection with a axis of rotation based on measurements of wind conditions specific for the wind power sector. Basic properties and characteristics used in the wind power sector, as well as a proper measurement campaign along with determining the necessary instrumentation and the methodology of its use, are the basic parameters that determine the decision of wind farm investment. The main goal of those activities is to gather the accurate meteorological data in sufficient amount using a measurement tower situated at a possible future location of a wind farm. This method is used to identify the direction, speed, gust and energy of the wind. Measurements were made in northern Poland using a measurement system based on a 80-meter-high telescopic mast. The system was equipped with instrumentation necessary to measure and record the basic wind parameters, and was made by the Windhunter Serwis Ltd. Company headquartered in Koszalin. The reliability of measurements was verified using the statistical methods based on the Weitbull’s distribution and the windrose. Thus, the energy potential of the raw air stream was determined with a possible future use in a wind farm sitting.

The paper presents analyses of the mean wind pressure coefficient distribution on the surfaces of circular cylinders. The experiment was performed in a boundary layer wind tunnel in the Wind Engineering Laboratory in Cracow, Poland. Three models were examined in the wind tunnel. The influence of the aspect ratio and wind parameters (mean wind speed profile, turbulence intensity profile, power spectral density functions) on the mean wind pressure coefficient distribution and its standard deviation was considered during the tests.

Wind results from the air in motion. Air in motion arises from a pressure gradient. Wind direction and wind speed are two characteristics of the wind, whose inter-relationships may give us an insight into the prevailing weather condition at a particular place. This study examines the trend analysis of the wind direction and wind speed pattern of Srinagar Garhwal Valley, Uttarakhand. The average wind speed in Srinagar Valley is 2.923± 1.232 m/s. As it is seen the most frequent wind in Srinagar Garhwal has a speed from 0.50 to 2.10 m/s in the northwest direction.

This paper analyzes the methods of mapping the velocity of wind flow, and using them to measure the performance of wind turbines. The dependencies of the two-parameter Weibull distribution function on the scale parameter are analyzed. It should be noted that the parameters of the distribution function, and therefore the repeatability are probabilistic. The characteristics of Rayleigh distribution for different values of the scale are presented. The analytical-expressions and peculiar velocities of the integer and half-integer values for the shape parameters reflect the relationship between the mean, mean square, average-cubic, and estimated wind-speeds. It is shown that the ratio of the square of the average speed to the standard, regardless of the values of the shape-parameters and the scale-ratio can be replaced by the corresponding G-functions.The theoretical-calculation to design the medium-speed and its relation to the current and average speeds for the Weibull distribution with a half-integer values and the shape-parameter is presented. It is proved that the recommendation considers the speed of the medium design to be proportional to the mean, and permissible only if the distribution is close to normal. It has been established that the ratio between average wind velocities (in the case of Weilbull distribution parameter) are determined only by its form and the average velocity through the scale parameter. Weibull distribution allows to facilitate and simplify their calculation methodology so as to assess the energy parameters of wind turbines.

A sigma-coordinate ocean model, by Blumberg and Mellor (POM). is applied to study the formation processes of mesoscale cyclones observed in the Baltic Sea, following the inflow events. The initial conditions simulate a situation when the Arkona and Bomholm Basins (or Arkona Basin solely) are already filled with the inflow water of the North Sea origin. while the rest of the sea still contains the old water of pre-inflow stratification. The model runs with constant and time dependent northerly/easterly wind, changing the buoyancy forcing, grid geometry and bottom topography, display the following. Entering the East Gotland Basin from the Slupsk Furrow. the bottom intrusion of saline inflow water splits in two: one goes northeast towards the Gotland Deep and the second moves southeast towards the Gulf of Gdansk. An intensive mesoscale cyclonic eddy carrying the inflow water is generated just east of the Slupsk Furrow with the inflow pulse. A number of smaller cyclones, with boluses of the inflow water, form in the intermediate layer along the saline intrusion pathway to the Gotland Deep. A similar cyclonic eddy is generated in the Bomholm Basin with the inflow pulse from the Arkona Basin. Following Spall and Price [19}, the cyclones are expected to form by the geostrophic adjustment of high potential vorticity inflow water column to a low potential vorticity environment. Some evidence for the PV outflow/inflow hypothesis is obtained in a numerical experiment, with a virtual dam restricting water exchange between the Bomholm and Gotland Basins to the limits of the Słupsk Furrow.

In the article the influence of the parameters describing the characteristics of the wind power station on the performance and economical factors of production of electrical energy was shown. The parameters describing the characteristics of the wind turbine were as follows: the nominal power, the speed of gaining the nominal power and the speed of the starting up of the power station. The degree of the usage of the nominal power of the power station was taken as the performance factor. The net cash flow and discount payback time were assumed as the economical factors.

W opracowaniu dokonano charakterystyki energii wiatru i sposobu jej przetwarzania w energię elektryczną. Zaprezentowano dwa rozwiązania konstrukcji turbin wiatrowych o pionowej osi obrotu i o poziomej osi obrotu uwzględniają ich wady i zalety. Ponadto przeanalizowano warunki klimatyczne w Polsce pod kątem zasobów wiatru i lokalizacji turbin wiatrowych. W opracowaniu wskazano turbiny o pionowej osi obrotu jako rozwiązania pozwalające na szersze i lepsze wykorzystanie zasobów wiatrów w Polsce. Pozyskiwana w ten sposób energia wspomaga istniejące indywidualne instalacje grzewcze bądź oświetleniowe i poprawia lokalne bezpieczeństwo energetyczne.
The purpose of this paper is to characterise the wind energy and to describe its conversion into electric energy. The article presents two design variants for wind energy conversion which are vertical axis wind turbine and horizontal axis wind turbine, pointing out their advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore the climatic conditions in Poland were analysed, regarding wind resources and possible locations of wind turbines. As a result of analyses the vertical axis wind turbine was appointed as the solution which is more suitable for Polish region, allowing for better and wider utilisation of wind energy (in comparison to the other design). The power obtained this way is used as a support for existing individual light and heating systems, and improves local energy security.

All ships experience an air and wind resistance while under way of sea, and they may experience adverse effects on wind while manoeuvring in harbours and limited waterways. The wind resistance is proportional to relative wind speed squared, wind direction and the projected windage area of the ship. The paper describes the effect of wind pressure into the ship’s superstructures and houses on ship manoeuvrability, in the range of the wind speed, for the ship which is with the large windage area. The above is one of the recommended information to be included in the ship’s manoeuvring booklet, as per IMO Resolution A.601(15). In sea practice, the manoeuvring characteristics in wind, as wind forces and moments, course-keeping limitation, and drifting under wind influence are fare from these estimated. The results obtained during the several years of practice in ship’s exploitation are included in this paper.

W ramach projektu ENERGYREGION zostały przeprowadzone badania potencjału energetycznego wiatru dla małych i średnich turbin wiatrowych w wybranych lokalizacjach na Dolnym Śląsku. W tym celu na masztach pomiarowych zostały zainstalowane czujniki prędkości wiatru. Pomiary wiatru były wykonywane przez okres pełnego roku. Na podstawie uzyskanych danych przeanalizowano zależność potencjału energii od szorstkości terenu i prędkości wiatru mierzonej na różnych wysokościach. W publikacji przedstawiono opracowany autorski program „PowerCalculator”, który umożliwia oszacowanie wielkości produkowanej energii elektrycznej przez turbinę, z dostępnego potencjału energii wiatru dla zmiennych parametrów szorstkości terenu i prędkości wiatru mierzonego na różnych wysokościach.
The wind energy potential studies for small and medium-sized wind turbines have been carried out within ENERGYREGION project. For this purpose, measuring masts at selected locations in the Lower Silesia were erected and wind measurements were realized for a full year. Based on the data from measurement sensors, the dependence of the wind energy potential with respect to the terrain roughness and wind speed measured at different heights has been presented. The “PowerCalculator” software has been developed to calculate the wind energy potential for varying values of parameters such as terrain roughness and wind speed at different heights, its applications presented in this paper.

Some of them concern meteorology and climatology and include wind condition analysis in terms of the energy useful for the operation of wind turbines. Others are related to wind tunnel tests and involve wind engineering, including the design of wind turbines and the aeration of urbanized areas. Computational facilities will allow for the analysis of numerical distributions and simulations of the measured amounts.

In this article we discuss the possibilities of electricity generation by wind farms settled in lubelskie province. Our study are based on detailed wind velocities map of Poland - AnemosŽ. We analyzed data in period from 2006 to 2008 and calculated feasible values of power and energy that may be obtained from the wind farms in chosen locations of province.

In order to evaluate the impacts of a motor vessel after installing wind sails, the aerodynamics of the sail should be accurately calculated. However most of the research on sails are based on stable wind instead of natural wind which is changing horizontally and vertically. In this paper wind tunnel tests are carried out based on stable wind field and simulated natural wind field, the results shown that there are 16–44% decrease in natural wind in terms of lifting coefficient and 11–42% decrease for drag coefficient. This would provide a valuable reference to the effectiveness evaluation of the impact of sails for sail assisted ships.

The aim of this paper is the application of selected time-varying power quality indices combined with detailed time-frequency analysis for assessment of transients in wind energy system. Presented proposition utilizes short-term harmonic distortion in voltage (STHDV) characteristic as an indicator for detail local time-frequency analysis of the transients. Introduced ideas can be treated as hybrid system absorbing both power quality indices and time-frequency representation.

Lubrication of wind turbines is very important for maintenance [3] . The purpose of this paper is to present some considerations about monitoring oiling system. This system monitors kinematic data in real time. The importance of monitoring real data with this system help us to simulate lubrication for various types of wind turbine reducers in order to choose the optimal form of the lubrication system and for good maintenance.

Due to the accelerating demand for transporting raw materials around the world over the last century, bulk carriers are being constantly developed in order to maximise their capacity and efficiency whilst maintaining safety and durability of the vessels. With regards to safety, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) recurrently issue regulations and technical standards for the design and construction of ships, in order to safeguard the crew and other people on board. In light of these regulations, three issues concerning the properties of a bulk carrier are investigated. Firstly, the floodability of a bulk carrier is researched, to determine the largest possible volumes of compartments which can be flooded without causing the bulk carrier to capsize. Results were determined both manually and by means of marine design software, Maxsurf Enterprise; results generated by the two methods are compared. Additionally, a series of loadcases, each consisting of a different cargo and ballast configuration, are sought to reveal their effect on both the still water bending moment and the intact stability of the vessel. The results are analysed in relation to the IMO’s criteria.

They are characterized by simple construction, more affordable price and good technical parameters, which makes them an interesting source of energy for individual investors.

Many countries worldwide support green energy production on large scale mostly by solar or wind energy subsidizing manufacture and operation of such systems. During the last two decades, there has been significant increase in wind energy production globally. Statistics show continuously growing investments in the development and installation of wind turbines and farms. Currently, wind energy is the second most important source of renewable energy after water energy. By 2016 global cumulative installed wind capacity surpassed 432 k MW [GWEC]. In last several years, most dynamic growth in wind power generation investments was recorded in Asia. Europe, in comparison, has less impressive but steady growth in wind power plants through the years. In this article, authors present global demand on energy in comparison to efficiency of wind power plants in relation to the local and global location as well as to the scale of installed system. Authors also present statistical data concerning wind power plants development. General classification, using number of criteria (ex. power output, construction size, rotor axis orientation and other) of wind to electric power converting devices is presented. Various types of devices, which authors describe in this article, can perform conversion of wind blow energy to the electric energy using different yet similar methods.

In the article the stochastic model of wave influence on wind loading fluctuation of drifting rescue units is presented. Wind speed is the single most important factor when trying to determine basic wind pressure. Wind motion is turbulent, and it is difficult to give a concise mathematical definition of turbulence. However, it is known that wind turbulence exists due to the lower viscosity of air in comparison with water. Any air motion faster than 4 km/h is turbulent; i.e., air particles move erratically in all directions. Basic wind pressure is affected by the uncertainty effect caused by the likelihood of the wind hitting the drifting rescue unit from any given direction. This parameter is known as the directionality effect. The pressure exerted by strong winds on the life raft is a function of the dynamic part of Bernoulli’s equation, known as basic pressure, which is modified by the following factors: wind direction according to a life raft axis system, wind speed, the life raft height, wave height, wave slope angle. Two random factors were considered. The first one is the drifting rescue unit heeling angle to the horizontal plane. The second one is connected with the position of drifting rescue unit on wave slope. The results obtained during laboratory tests in wind tunnel were used to model wind pressure on a life raft. The measurements of a life raft movement on waves obtained during sea experiments were used to estimate the distribution of pitch and roll angle. The position of drifting rescue unit on a wave slope has uniform distribution. The wind load coefficients for life rafts presented in this paper are derived from wind tunnel tests in uniform flow obtained at the Aviation Institute in Warsaw. Data of life raft movements on waves have been collected during full size experiments at sea. Data from wind tunnel test are the basis of knowledge of wind loads on drifting rescue units.

Analysis of hydrometeorological data and of hypsometric measurements of the Hel Peninsula shore from the years 1989-1997 allowed determination of statistical relationships between averaged hydrometeorological parameters and morphological parameters of the shore. The significant relationship found between mean wind speed and sea level allowed an evaluation of their influence on the Peninsula 's shore. It is shown that long-term sealevel changes result in much stronger reaction of the shore than changes of wind speed. Quantitative relationships between the changes of hydrometeorological factors and the progress of erosion of dune coasts are presented on the example of the Hl Peninsula.

This paper presents a comparison of the wind data measured by the ASCAT polar-orbiting satellite scatterometer and winds forecast by the numerical weather prediction model HIRLAM in the Baltic Sea region during the stormy season in 2009. Two different resolution models were used in the comparison. Mutual quality and uncertainty characteristics of the measurements and predictions are determined. The results of the study show that the ASCAT wind data are well correlated with the HIRLAM predicted winds, which raises the credibility of both data sources in operational and hindcasting applications over the Baltic Sea. A case of phase error in a HIRLAM forecast of cyclonic activity over the Baltic Sea is discussed.

Biofouling is a natural phenomenon that consists of the accumulation of living organisms on an artificial surface submerged or in contact with water like Offshore platforms. This study highlights the need for offshore floating wind farms structures to consider the choice of material used in offshore applications to minimize microbial-associated and corrosion problems. For this purpose, differences in the total of seawater biofouling attached on two coated paints and three ceramic coatings in carbon steel for offshore structures were evaluated and compared. All ceramic coatings were made of incorporating, by electrophoretic deposition, active ceramic particles against biofouling as copper, silver, zinc and titanium. This experiment consisted of testing ceramic coatings and conventional paints in a real environment with high biological activity and at the same time in a shallow marine environment for a period of 1 year, which provided positive comparisons with the standard system (ASTM-D3623) for using in protecting offshore marine structures.

The article presents the results of examining a wind turbine on the vertical axis of rotation. The study was conducted in an open circuit wind tunnel Gunt HM 170 in the laboratory of the Department of Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics and Aviation Propulsion Systems at Lublin University of Technology. The subject of research was a rotor based on the patent PL 219985, with blades capable of altering the surface of the active area (receiving kinetic energy of the wind). The study was performed on appropriately scaled and geometrically similar models maintaining, relevant to the type of research, the criterion numbers. The studied rotors with different blade inclination angles were produced using a 3D powder printer ZPrinter® 450. The results of the conducted research were obtained for the flow velocity of 6.5 m/s and three inclination angles, 30°, 60°, and 90°, at variable rotational speed. The test equipment used in the study allows maintaining the required speed, recording velocity and torque, which in turn allows an engineer to measure such characteristics of torque and power as a function of rotor speed.

Artykuł poświęcony jest problematyce wykonywania pomiarów wietrzności, wykorzystywanych do estymacji wielkości energii produkowanej przez elektrownie wiatrowe różnych mocy. Dostępne, profesjonalne opracowania map wiatru w Europie nie obejmują obszaru Polski, można spotkać jedynie estymacje zasobów energetycznych wiatru opracowywane na postawie pomiarów pochodzących z lokalnych stacji metrologicznych. W artykule przestawiono uwarunkowania prawne wykonywania takich pomiarów, metodykę ich prowadzenia oraz przykłady wykonanych instalacji pomiarowych dla wybranych lokalizacji.
The paper focuses on the issues of wind measurements to estimate the amount of energy produced by a wind power station. The European Commission assumes that the amount of electricity generated by renewable sources will increase during a few next years [16]. The development of modern technologies promotes growing availability of electricity production from the wind, even for households. Taking into account the fact that the wind is not a stable source of energy, when designing the power grid it is necessary to predict the wind resources [5]. Available, professionallyprepared, well organized wind resources located in Europe do not include the area of Poland (Fig.1). There can be met only wind energy resources developed on the basis of measurements from the local metrological station [7], that do not reference to the vertical wind profile. In the first section of the paper legal and economic considerations of wind plant station building are presented. The authors point the accuracy of wind measurements as the key point for energy estimation. In the next section the methodology of measuring the wind resources is discussed, while in Section 3 the measurement equipment designed and tested in the Department of Electronics is described (Fig.2). Based on the logger collected data, the wind energy analysis in WASP [9] program is presented (Fig.4). The result is used to estimate the wind energy in the area located 3 km far from the logger position. Implementation of the presented methodology and apparatus for measurements of the wind speed and direction will help to accelerate the development of distributed wind energy in Poland.

With the passing time and the accelerating exploitation of fossil fuels, there is a growing need to exchange the production of electricity from conventional sources to renewables. Energy resources, such as oil, natural gas and coal will suffice to meet the needs of several generations, but we need to anticipate their running out o, or using them will be unprofitable due to the high price. W ostatnich latach energetyka wiatrowa jest najszybciej rozwijającą się gałęzią energetyki. Turbiny wiatrowe są źródłami energii o najwyższej dyspozycyjności. Aby utrzymać wysokie wskaźniki dyspozycyjności niezbędne jest stosowanie systemów monitorowania i diagnostyki. Proces ten jest przyspieszany przez aktywną politykę firm ubezpieczeniowych. Artykuł przedstawia system MDS Wind, który jest nowoczesnym systemem monitorowania i diagnostyki turbin wiatrowych. W pierwszej części scharakteryzowano turbinę wiatrową jako obiekt monitorowania. W kolejnej części opisano strukturę systemu MDS Wind, a następnie przedstawiono algorytmy oprogramowania. Przedstawiono przykładowe estymaty sygnałów drganiowych wyznaczonych przez system wraz z przykładami ich zastosowania do monitorowania turbiny wiatrowej. W ostatniej części opisano bogate możliwości interfejsu użytkownika. System MDS Wind uzyskał w czerwcu 2005 certyfikację Allianz Zentrum Fuer Technik.
In recent years wind energy is the fastest growing branch of the power generation industry. Wind turbines can achieve the highest level of availably. To keep this high level it is necessery to install monitoring and diagnostics systems. This process is influenced by active strategy of insurance companies. The following article describes MDS Wind system, which is state-ofthe-art monitoring and diagnostic system for wind turbines. In the first part wind turbine is presented from the monitoring point of view. next chapter presents MDS Wind system structure, including software algorithms. Examples of vibration signal estimates are presented, together with their applictaion for monitoring of the wind turbine. The last chapter describes rich capabilities of the user interface.

Different analytical models have been evaluated for estimating wind speed of the tropical storm, where the storm-induced wind velocity is calculated as a function of distance from the center of the hurricane. For these models, different parameters such as maximum wind speed, a radius of the maximum wind, hurricane shape parameter, hurricane translation speed and the orientation of the trajectory, etc., affect the shape of a hurricane. Hurricanes Lili (2002), Ivan (2004), Katrina (2005), Gustav (2008) and Ike (2008) from the Gulf of Mexico were used for skill assessment. The maximum wind radius was calculated using significant wind radii (R34, R50 and R64) reported by the National Hurricane Center. Different formulas for calculating the radius of maximum wind speed were evaluated. The asymmetric wind field for each hurricane was generated using analytic methods and compared with in situ data from buoys in the Gulf of Mexico and the H*Wind data. Analytical models were able to predict high wind speed under tropical cyclone conditions with relatively high precision. Among the analytical models evaluated in this research, the model proposed by Holland et al. (2010) showed excellent results. Dynamical wind models such as NCEP/NARR provide wind speed with the coarse spatial resolution which is acceptable for far-field locations away from the hurricane eye. In contrast, analytical models were able to produce sufficiently reliable wind speed within a particular radius from the center of the hurricane. Therefore blending of dynamical and analytical models can be used to provide accurate wind data during hurricane passage in the Gulf of Mexico.

The purpose of study was verification regarding quality of wind speed forecasts used during designing the wind farm capacity, with AAN [artificial neural network] methods and Brown, Holt, Winters and ARIMA time models. Analysis included results of forecasts for December, namely a month with the biggest wind speed amplitude changes, considering data for period of 2008-2009. Analysis of results confirmed that appropriate linear models and artificial neural methods for the period of wind speed forecast may ensure good results regarding forecasts of wind power output generated by wind farms.
Celem pracy było sprawdzenie jakości prognozy prędkości wiatru, wykorzystywanej w planowaniu mocy siłowni wiatrowej, metodami SSN i modelami szeregów czasowych Browna, Holta, Wintersa i ARIMA. Porównano wyniki prognoz sporządzonych dla grudnia, miesiąca o największych zmianach amplitudy prędkości wiatru, sprawdzając je dla danych z lat 2008-2009. Analiza wyników wskazuje, że odpowiedni dobór modeli liniowych i sztucznych sieci neuronowych do horyzontu czasowego prognozy prędkości wiatru, może pozwolić na osiągnięcie dobrych wyników prognozowania energii, wytworzonej przez siłownie wiatrowe.

This paper deals with problems relating to the impact of wind power plants on the landscape and their acceptance by society. The advantages and disadvantages of wind power energy produced by such energy plants are discussed. It is observed that most of the disadvantages of classic windmills can be avoided with the application of wind turbines with vertical spin axes. These turbines are designed for consumers who need power sources up to 1.5 kW. This paper also presents new and original construction solutions for these types of turbine masts, which are defined as types “F,” “2F” and “F/2F”. It is concluded that the presented solutions are easily integrated with the landscape, architecture and infrastructure of the region. The work also introduces research results concerning wind speed in the Białystok region (Nowosiółki, near Krypno). As the range of wind speed changes over time is relatively wide, this influences the value of momentary turbine power. The research results indicate that from October to March, wind speeds are significantly greater than during the remaining months.

Wind power is one of the three main renewable energy sources, along with solar and hydropower, which are widely used to produce electricity worldwide. As an energy resource, wind is widespread and can provide electricity to much of the world, but it is both intermittent and unpredictable, making it difficult to rely on wind power alone. However, when used in combination with other types of production or in combination with energy storage, wind can make a valuable contribution to the global energy balance. Over the past few decades, wind power has emerged in a number of countries as a separate energy sector that has successfully competed with conventional energy. Attention is paid to wind power plants (WT) as part of distribution and transmission networks. In this regard, an urgent scientific and technical task is the efficient use of wind potential, which is not only to improve aerodynamic characteristics WT, but also to increase productivity WT as a whole. This article presents the type of wind turbines, among the possible applications and very promising is the wind turbine Bolotov (WRTB), which by its technical characteristics surpasses the traditional propeller and other installations using wind energy in the production of electrical energy. The increase (WEUF - wind energy utilization factor) in all modes of operation WT by improving various methods of automatic control is relevant, and the proposed work is devoted to this issue.
Energia wiatrowa jest jednym z trzech głównych źródeł energii odnawialnej, obok energii słonecznej i wodnej, które są szeroko wykorzystywane do produkcji energii elektrycznej na całym świecie. Jako źródło energii, wiatr jest szeroko rozpowszechniony i może dostarczać energię elektryczną do wielu części świata, ale jest on zarówno nieciągły, jak i nieprzewidywalny, co sprawia, że trudno jest polegać wyłącznie na energii wiatrowej. Jednakże w połączeniu z innymi rodzajami produkcji lub w połączeniu z magazynowaniem energii wiatr może wnieść cenny wkład w światowy bilans energetyczny. W ciągu ostatnich kilkudziesięciu lat energia wiatrowa pojawiła się w wielu krajach jako odrębny sektor energetyczny, który z powodzeniem konkurował z energią konwencjonalną. Szczególną uwagę zwraca się na elektrownie wiatrowe (EW) w ramach sieci dystrybucyjnych i przesyłowych. W związku z tym pilnym zadaniem naukowym i technicznym jest efektywne wykorzystanie potencjału wiatru, co ma na celu nie tylko poprawę właściwości aerodynamicznych turbin wiatrowych, ale również ogólne zwiększenie wydajności turbin wiatrowych. W artykule przedstawiono typ turbin wiatrowych, wśród możliwych zastosowań i bardzo obiecujący jest turbina wiatrowa Bolotov (WRTB), która swoją charakterystyką techniczną przewyższa tradycyjne śmigło i inne instalacje wykorzystujące energię wiatrową w produkcji energii elektrycznej. Istotne jest zwiększenie (WEUF - wind energy utilization factor) we wszystkich trybach pracy turbin wiatrowych poprzez udoskonalenie różnych metod automatycznej kontroli, a proponowane prace poświęcone są tej kwestii.

Praca charakteryzuje składową strefową prędkości wiatru w trzech gridach usytuowanych po wschodniej stronie Svalbardu oraz jej związki z temperaturą powietrza na stacjach zachodniego wybrzeża Spits-bergenu. W rejonie położonym na wschód od archipelagu obserwuje się dominację cyrkulacji wschodniej, której natężenie wyraźnie wzrasta przy przemieszczaniu się na południe. W przebiegu rocznym stwierdzono nasilanie się cyrkulacji wschodniej w miesiącach zimowych i osłabianie latem, przy czym zmienność wartości U-wind w mie-siącach chłodnej pory roku jest największa. Przewaga cyrkulacji zachodniej zaznacza się latem przez okres od jednego (na 75°N) do pięciu miesięcy (na 80°N), a jej natężenie rośnie wraz z szerokością geograficzną.
The study presents variability of zonal wind speed (U-wind) in three grids 2.5x2.5° situated in the vicinity of the eastern coast of Svalbard in period 1981–2005. Gridded surface data from NCEP Reanalysis Derived data provided by the NOAA/OAR/ESRL PSD, Boulder, Colorado, USA from their Web site at http://www.cdc.noaa.gov/ were used for statistical analysis. In analysed area negative values of U-wind are typical. Annual average eastern air-flow is much stronger in the south (–1.54 m/s in grid [75, 30]) than in north (–0.31 m/s in grid [80, 30]) – see fig. 1 and 2. The biggest interannual changeability of U-wind values is also observed in lower latitudes. Significant decreasing trends were found in annual U-wind values in grid points [80, 30] (–0.05 m/s by year) and [77.5, 30] (–0.04 m/s by year). During the year eastern air-flow reach the maximum in winter months. In summer time easterly circulation is weaker. Positive U-wind values (western air-flow) prevails in July (grid [75, 30]); June, July and August (grid [77.5, 30]) and from May to September in grid [80, 30]. Intensity of western air-flow increase with latitude too. The biggest changeability in monthly U-wind values in all grid points was observed in February. Decreasing trends in monthly U-wind values were found in [80, 30] grid in February (–0.13 m/s by year) and in [77.5, 30] grid in March and May (–0.11 and –0.08 m/s by year). Correlations between U-wind and zonal westerly circulation index W values for Spitsbergen area (given by Niedźwiedź, 2006) are strong for all grids and seasons, but the strongest were noted in grid [75, 30] – linear correlation coefficient from r = +0.75 (winter) to r = +0.87 (summer) – see fig. 5. Some relations between U-wind and monthly air temperature in Svalbard-Lufthavn and Ny Alesund were noticed too (fig. 6). The strongest negative correlations were found in July, May and April.
