The paper aims to outline ways in which the category of sensitivity is perceived and valued in terms of a theory of modern reportage. Self-reflexive statements by such journalists as Ryszard Kapuściński, Wojciech Tochman and Jacek Hugo-Bader are analyzed, who throughout their professiographic reflections often return to this topic. The research reveals that the findings made by these journalists correspond to a significant extent with Susan Sontag’s conclusions in her book Regarding the Pain of Others. On the one hand, the reporters seem to treat sensitivity as a desirable attitude adopted by a journalist in his or her encounter with others, and on the other hand, as a quality that in some cases may stand in conflict with journalistic professionalism.

Opis:
F. B. Wernher, known also as Werner, is the author of many different drawings depicting the views of European towns and urban settlements. These drawings were analyzed multiple times by specialists representing different fields of art and science. The author of this article aims to describe the connection between Wernher's freehand drawings with the methods used in graphical description of constructions. In the article there will be discussed only chosen kinds of drawings and their examples will be presented. Separately, in planned second part of the study, cases of the Wernherian perspective will be discussed.
F. B. Wernher (1690-1776), znany również jako Werner, jest autorem wielu rysunków przedstawiających widoki europejskich miejscowości i założeń urbanistycznych. Rysunki te były wielokrotnie analizowane przez specjalistów z różnych dziedzin sztuki i nauki. Autorka artykułu podejmuje próbę opisania związku odręcznych rysunków Wernhera z metodami wykreślnymi stosowanymi w graficznym zapisie konstrukcji. W artykule omówione zostaną jedynie wybrane rodzaje rysunków i przedstawione ich przykłady. Osobno, w planowanej drugiej części opracowania, zostaną omówione przypadki „wernherowskiej perspektywy".

Światło naturalne kreuje odbiór przestrzeni, jego zmienność ożywia obiekty architektury, w tym ich zewnętrzne kształty oddziałujące na krajobraz. Wskrzeszając ducha miejsca wytwarza relację pomiędzy architekturą a człowiekiem i środowiskiem. Światło tworzy metaforyczną więź między siedzibą ludzką i boską. W kulturze chrześcijańskiej światłość stanowi reprezentację obecności Boga. Światło naturalne stanowi w różnych kulturach niezbędny element wizualizujący nasze wierzenia i kreujący przestrzeń duchową. W kulturze zachodu jedną z ambicji projektantów jest takie projektowanie, które w umiejętny sposób wykorzystuje właściwości światła, aby jego obecność podkreślała i wzmacniała mistycyzm przestrzeni sacrum. W artykule podjęto próbę przedstawienia ogólnego zarysu roli światła naturalnego w kształtowaniu sacrum w krajobrazie. Na podstawie badań widoku nocnego obiektów kultu postawiono pytanie o kreowanie krajobrazu duchowego za pomocą oświetlenia sztucznego.
Natural light creates reception of the space in the eyes of the people, its daily and seasonal variation revives architectural objects, including their outer elevations and envelopes affecting the surrounding landscape. Reviving the spirit of architectural space in the buildings creates a relationship between architecture and man and the natural environment. Light creates a metaphorical connection between the house of Men and the house of the Divine. In Christian culture light is a representation of God's presence. Natural light is in different cultures an essential part of visualizing our beliefs and the creation of a sacred space. In western culture, one of the ambitions of the designers is such a design, which uses in a skillful manner the properties of light, that its presence – underlined, strengthened and enhanced, brings the mysticism to the sacred space and links between the place of worship and heaven. The article attempts to present an overview of the role of natural light in the creation of the sacred places in the landscape. Based on studies of night-view of the objects of worship in the city’s landscape, a question is being posed about the creation of the spiritual landscape with artificial lighting.

W artykule zaprezentowano przykładowe aplety, które zostały przygotowane przez autorów w programie GeoGebra. Część z nich wykorzystano do stworzenia kursu elearningowego Liczby zespolone, używanego na Politechnice Gdańskiej. Inne użyto jako materiały pomocnicze w czasie tradycyjnych zajęć kursowych z matematyki dla pierwszego roku studiów, oraz podczas kursów: przygotowawczego z matematyki do matury i do studiów. Szczególną uwagę chcielibyśmy zwrócić uwagę na aplety, w których wykorzystano widok grafiki 3D, występujący w GeoGebrze od niedawna. Przedstawiliśmy również szereg apletów, w których widok grafiki pełni rolę interfejsu.
Presented article describes examples of applets, which were prepared by the authors in the GeoGebra software. The applets were used to create e-learning course Complex Numbers used at Gdansk University of Technology, as well as supporting educational materials of traditional class activities during first year courses in mathematics. The authors would like to draw particular attention to the applets which were created using 3D graphic view. The 3D view was added to GeoGebra recently. The authors also present a number of applets, where graphic view is served as an interface.

In Contingent Valuation studies, users generally declare willingness to pay (WTP) higher than non-users. This study attempts to investigate if viewing the good during CV survey has a different impact on users’ and non-users’ WTPs. A framed field experiment was conducted in which users and non-users were surveyed in two locations – one with a view of the forest and the other without it. Our study showed that the WTPs of users were significantly higher than those of non-users only when respondents did not see forest during the survey. However, when the experiment was conducted in a location where the respondents could see the forest – the difference disappeared. Our results also show that the relationship between declared WTP and both the respondents’ socio-demographic status and their environmental attitudes were weaker among respondents surveyed in a location with a forest view. We believe that the increase in WTP of non-users is temporary and represents a kind of bias. This in turn may be relevant in the design of CVM studies.
W badaniach metodą wyceny warunkowej użytkownicy zazwyczaj deklarują gotowość do zapłaty (willingness to pay, WTP) wyższą niż nieużytkownicy. W niniejszym opracowaniu podjęto próbę zbadania, czy widok wycenianego dobra w czasie badania oddziałuje jednakowo na użytkowników i nieużytkowników. Przeprowadzono eksperyment terenowy, w którym użytkownicy i nieużytkownicy byli badani w dwóch lokalizacjach – jednej z widokiem na las, a drugiej bez niego. Badanie pokazało, że WTP użytkowników było znacząco wyższe niż nieużytkowników jedynie wtedy, kiedy respondenci nie widzieli lasu w czasie badania. Jednakże, gdy badanie zostało przeprowadzone w miejscu, gdzie respondenci widzieli las – różnica ta zniknęła. Wyniki wskazują również, że związek między deklarowaną WTP a statusem społeczno-demograficznym respondentów oraz ich postawami ekologicznymi był słabszy wśród respondentów badanych w miejscu z widokiem na las. Sądzimy, że wzrost WTP osób nie korzystających z lasu jest przejściowy i stanowi pewnego rodzaju błąd poznawczy. To z kolei może mieć znaczenie w projektowaniu badań CVM.

Artykuł dotyczy zagadnień związanych z rekreacją, występującą w przestrzeniach architektonicznych jednorodzinnych domów zlokalizowanych w krajobrazie w terenach poza miastem. Funkcja wypoczynku odgrywa w przestrzeni domu wolno stojącego bardzo ważną rolę, ponieważ związana jest na co dzień z życiem rodziny. Artykuł prezentuje trzynaście nagrodzonych projektów architektoniczno-urbanistycznych studentów drugiego roku wykonanych w roku akademickim 2015/2016 w Katedrze Kształtowania Środowiska Mieszkaniowego Wydziału Architektury Politechniki Krakowskiej. Pokazują, zdaniem autora, tęsknotę do zamieszkania w naturalnym środowisku, w otoczeniu łąk, lasów, jezior, gór, mórz etc. w odosobnieniu, ciszy i spokoju. Dążenia i marzenia mieszkańców do bycia na co dzień z naturą znajdują swoje odbicie w projektowaniu oraz realizacji miejsc zamieszkania w środowisku mieszkaniowym wzajemnie ściśle powiązanym ze środowiskiem przyrodniczym.
The paper discusses the issues tied with recreation in the architectural spaces of single-family detached houses located within the landscape outside of cities. Recreation plays a very important role in the space of a single-family detached house, as it is tied with the everyday life of a family. The paper presents thirteen award-winning architectural and urban designs developed by second year students during the 2015/2016 academic year, developed at the Chair of the Housing Environment of the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology. According to the author’s opinion, they illustrate the yearning for a life in a natural environment, surrounded by meadows, forests, lakes, mountains and seas, in isolation, peace and quiet. The efforts and dreams of inhabitants who want to be surrounded by nature every day have been reflected in the design and construction of residential areas in a housing environment that is strictly and mutually tied with the natural environment.

Wstęp. Omdlenia na widok krwi, przy iniekcjach i instrumentacjach należą do grupy omdleń wazowagalnych. Cel pracy. Ocena częstości występowania tych omdleń w populacji studentów studiów medycznych zarówno dziennych, jak i zaocznych. Materiał i metody. Grupę badawczą stanowiło 815 studentów, w tym 745 studentów studiów dziennych i 70 studentów studiów zaocznych, którzy wyrazili zgodę na dobrowolne, anonimowe wypełnienie ankiety. Wyniki. Omdlenia na widok krwi, przy iniekcjach i instrumentacjach występowały u około 11% studentów, przy innym stresie emocjonalnym – u 6%, a zasłabnięcia na widok krwi, przy iniekcjach i instrumentacjach oraz przy innych stresowych zdarzeniach – u około 17% badanych osób. U niektórych osób występowały jednocześnie omdlenia i zasłabnięcia. Ogółem choć jedno ze zdarzeń: omdlenie lub stan przedomdleniowy na widok krwi, przy iniekcjach i instrumentacjach lub przy innej stresowej sytuacji, podawało 23% respondentów. Wnioski. 1. Omdlenia na widok krwi, przy iniekcjach i instrumentacjach występują u stosunkowo dużego odsetka studentów studiów medycznych. 2. Obecnie wystąpienie omdlenia jest rzadziej traktowane jako przeciwwskazanie do podjęcia studiów medycznych niż w przeszłości.
Background. Syncope at the sight of blood, injections and instrumentations belong to the group of vasovagal syncope. Objectives. The goal of the study was an evaluation of frequency occurrence of those syncope in the population of medicine students of both full-time and extramural studies. Material and methods. The group of respondents consisted of 815 students, including 745 of full-time and 70 of extramural studies who consented to voluntary and anonymous illing in a survey form. Results. The syncope at the sight of blood, injections and instrumentations occurred among about 11% of students; due to different emotional stress in 6% whereas fainting at the sight of blood, injections, instrumentations and due to other stressful incidents among about 17% of the respondents. In some people syncope and fainting occurred simultaneously. In total – one of the incidents: syncope or presyncope at the sight of blood, injections, instrumentations or due to other stressful situation was given by 23% of the respondents. Conclusions. 1. Syncope at the sight of blood, injections, instrumentations occur among a relatively large percentage of medicine students. 2. Currently occurrence of syncope is more seldom treated as contraindication against taking up medical studies in comparison with the past.

The historical research of the illustrated Nuremberg Chronicle [Schedelsche Weltchronik (English: Schedel’s World Chronicle)] of Hartmann Schedel comprises the complex historical knowledge about numerous woodcuts which present views of various cities important in the world’s history, e.g. Jerusalem, Constantinople, or the European ones such as: Rome, some Italian, German or Polish cities e.g. Wrocław and Cracow; some Hungarian and some Czech Republic cities. Researchers have made a serious study to recognize certain constructions in the woodcuts; they indicated the conservative and contractual architecture, the existing places and the unrealistic (non-existent) places. The results show that there is a common detail in all the views – the defensive wall round each of the described cities. However, in reality, it may not have existed in some cities during the lifetime of the authors of the woodcuts. As for some further details: behind the walls we can see feudal castles on the hills shown as strongholds. Within the defensive walls there are numerous buildings with many towers typical for the Middle Ages and true-to-life in certain ways of building the cities. Schematically drawn buildings surrounded by the ring of defensive walls indicate that the author used certain patterns based on the previously created panoramic views. This article is an attempt of making analogical comparisons of the cities in medieval painting. The Author of the article presents Roman mosaics and the miniature painting e.g. the ones created in the scriptorium in Reichenau. Since the beginning of 14th century Italian painters such as: Duccio di Buoninsegna, Giotto di Bondone, Simone Martini and Ambrogio Lorenzetti painted parts of the cities or the entire monumental panoramas in various compositions and with various meanings. One defining rule in this painting concerned the definitions of the cities given by Saint Isidore of Seville, based on the rules which he knew from the antique tradition. These are: urbs – the cities full of architecture and buildings but uninhabited or civita – the city, the living space of the human life, build-up space, engaged according to the law, kind of work and social hierarchy. The tradition of both ways of describing the city is rooted in Italy. This article indicates the particular meaning of Italian painting in distributing the image of the city – as the votive offering. The research conducted by Chiara Frugoni and others indicated the meaning of the city images in the painting of various forms of panegyrics created in high praise of cities, known as laude (Lat.). We can find the examples of them rooted in the Roman tradition of mosaics, e.g. in San Apollinare Nuovo in Ravenna. They present both palatium and civitas. The medieval Italian painting, especially the panel painting, presents the city structure models which are uninhabited and deprived of any signs of everyday life. The models of cities – urbs, are presented as votive offerings devoted to their patron saints, especially to Virgin Mary. The city shaped as oval or sinusoidal rings surrounded by the defensive walls resembled a container filled with buildings. Only few of them reflected the existing cities and could mainly be identified thanks to the inscriptions. The most characteristic examples were: the fresco of Taddeo di Bartolo in Palazzo Publico in Siena, which presented the Dominican Order friar Ambrogio Sansedoni holding the model of his city – Siena, with its most recognizable building - the Cathedral dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. The same painter, referred to as the master painter of the views of the cities as the votive offerings, painted the Saint Antilla with the model of Montepulciano in the painting from 1401 for the Cathedral devoted to the Assumption of Mary in Montepulciano. In the painting made by T. di Bartolo, the bishop of the city of Gimignano, Saint Gimignano, presents the city in the shape of a round lens surrounded by defence walls with numerous church towers and the feudal headquarters characteristic for the city. His dummer of the city is pyramidally-structured, the hills are mounted on the steep slopes reflecting the analogy to the topography of the city. We can also find the texts of songs, laude (Lat.) and panegyrics created in honour of the cities and their rulers, e.g. the texts in honour of Milan, Bonvesin for La Riva, known in Europe at that time. The city – Arcadia (utopia) in the modern style. Hartman Schedel, as a bibliophile and a scholar, knew the texts of medieval writers and Italian art but, as an ambitious humanist, he could not disregard the latest, contemporary trends of Renaissance which were coming from Nuremberg and from Italian cities. The views of Arcadia – the utopian city, were rapidly developing, as they were of great importance for the rich recipient in the beginning of the modern era overwhelmed by the early capitalism. It was then when the two opposites were combined – the shepherd and the knight, the Greek Arcadia with the medieval city. The reception of Virgil’s Arcadia in the medieval literature and art was being developed again in the elite circles at the end of 15th century. The cultural meaning of the historical loci, the Greek places of the ancient history and the memory of Christianity constituted the essence of historicism in the Renaissance at the courts of the Comnenos and of the Palaiologos dynasty, which inspired the Renaissance of the Latin culture circle. The pastoral idleness concept came from Venice where Virgil’s books were published in print in 1470, the books of Ovid: Fasti and Metamorphoses were published in 1497 and Sannazaro’s Arcadia was published in 1502, previously distributed in his handwriting since 1480. Literature topics presented the historical works as memoria, both ancient and Christian, composed into the images. The city maps drawn by Hartmann Schedel, the doctor and humanist from Nurnberg, refer to the medieval images of urbs, the woodcuts with the cities, known to the author from the Italian painting of the greatest masters of the Trecenta period. As a humanist he knew the literature of the Renaissance of Florence and Venice with the Arcadian themes of both the Greek and the Roman tradition. The view of Constantinople in the context of the contemporary political situation, is presented in a series of monuments of architecture, with columns and defensive walls, which reminded of the history of the city from its greatest time of Constantine the Great, Justinian I and the Comnenus dynasty. Schedel’s work of art is the sum of the knowledge written down or painted. It is also the result of the experiments of new technology. It is possible that Schedel was inspired by the hymns, laude, written by Psellos in honour of Constantinople in his elaborate ecphrases as the panegyrics for the rulers of the Greek dynasty – the Macedonians. Already in that time, the Greek ideal of beauty was reborn, both in literature and in fine arts. The illustrated History of the World presented in Schedel’s woodcuts is given to the recipients who are educated and to those who are anonymous, in the spirit of the new anthropology. It results from the nature of the woodcut reproduction, that is from the way of copying the same images. The artist must have strived to gain the recipients for his works as the woodcuts were created both in Latin and in German. The collected views were supposed to transfer historical, biblical and mythological knowledge in the new way of communication.

Przeprowadzone w ramach przedmiotu Projektowanie Krajobrazu Miasta pilotażowe zajęcia wykorzystujące analizę i waloryzację miejskiego krajobrazu według teorii sekwencji widokowych Gordona Cullena mają na celu wypracowanie spójnej metody projektowania ciągu wnętrz miejskich.
The city is a multilayered, three-dimensional experience. Conducted as a part of the city’s landscape design course, a pilot workshop using analysis and valorization of urban landscape based on the view sequence theory by Gordon Cullen intended to develop a coherent urban interiors design method.
