Opis:
In this paper coordination of fuzzy power system stabilizer (FPSS) and flexible ac transmission systems (FACTS) have been considered in a multi-machine power system. The proposed model, has been applied for a wide-area power system. The proposed FPSS presented with local, nonlinear feedbacks, and the corresponding control synthesis conditions are given in terms of solutions to a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). For this model, in fuzzy control synthesis, the new proposed control design method is based on fewer fuzzy rules and less computational burden. Also, the parameters of FACTS controller have been evaluated by improved honey bee mating optimization (IHBMO). The effectiveness of the proposed method has been applied over two case studies of single-machine infinite-bus (SMIB) and two areas four machine (TAFM) Kundur’s power system. The obtained results demonstrate the superiority of proposed strategy.

Opis:
To maintain power system operation in a balanced and stable condition, the frequency deviation and the rate of frequency change information are highly desired in monitoring and protection applications of the power grid. How to obtain frequency information more accurately and efficiently has been the topic discussion for decades. PMUs (Phaser Measurement Unit) are the most widely-used devices for measuring phase angle differences and they also provide very accurate frequency information. However, the high installation cost of PMUs limits their applications for wide area control and stability analysis of power system. Thanks to commercial GPS receivers and the fast developments in Ethernet networks, an affordable wide area, quasi real-time, GPS synchronized frequency measurement is now possible. This paper introduces a portable networked Frequency Disturbance Recorder (FDR) device, which can be used at any 110V wall outlet and transmit measured frequency data remotely via the Ethernet. The practical issues and challenges of the device design and implementation are analyzed and discussed. Based on these low cost FDRs, a US-wide Frequency Network (FNET) has been implemented at Virginia Tech and some power system monitoring applications are being developed by taking fully advantage of the FDRs.

Opis:
A robust auxiliary wide area damping controller is proposed for a unified power flow controller (UPFC). The mixed H2 /H∞ problem with regional pole placement, resolved by linear matrix inequality (LMI), is applied for controller design. Based on modal analysis, the optimal wide area input signals for the controller are selected. The time delay of input signals, due to electrical distance from the UPFC location is taken into account in the design procedure. The proposed controller is applied to a multimachine interconnected power system from the IRAN power grid. It is shown that the both transient and dynamic stability are significantly improved despite different disturbances and loading conditions.
