    This article presents the role of architecture in the process of making the landscape of the Western and Northern Territories of Poland in the late 1940s more familiar to new inhabitants. The topic is analyzed on the example of Wroclaw city guidebook from 1948 by St[anislaw] Sevatt. In his work, special focus was given to gothic churches in order to emphasize close relations between Silesia and the other regions of Poland in the time of the Piast dynasty.

    Opis:
    Contemporary approaches to Poland’s Western and Northern Territories revolve around the concept of “postmigration communities”, or more broadly — “postmigration”, understood as a significant feature (or set of features) of community and social phenomena. These terms are present not only in academic discourse, but also in discussions on local identity. They are also an essential element of their symbolic status. Based on field research in the Głowczyce commune in Pomerania, the author tackles the issue of inhabitants’ attitudes towards breaking the historical and cultural continuity and the formation of the community from scratch, as well as the role of postmigration in shaping the symbolic status of the place. The article shows the capacity of the term “postmigration”. In residents’ statements, postmigration appears unnamed, as a problem, a challenge, and an asset. Attitudes towards postmigration reveal diverse attempts to cope with the break in historical and cultural continuity, which turns out to still be a significant element of identity processes taking place in the community in question.

    The paper contains an analysis of those legal regulations of the People’s Poland which were specific to the Recovered Territories and an attempt to answer the question of why such regulations were created. The following sources of law are discussed: legal acts devoted entirely to the Recovered Territories; legal acts applied to the entire territory of Poland in which some provisions were devoted exclusively to regulating the situation in these areas; legal acts that formally applied to the entire territory of Poland, but in the Recovered Territories their regulations were of particular importance. The internal regulations of the Ministry of the Recovered Territories were also examined.
    Artykuł zawiera analizę regulacji prawnych Polski Ludowej odrębnych dla Ziem Odzyskanych oraz próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie, dlaczego takie przepisy były tworzone. Omówiono następujące źródła prawa: akty prawne w całości poświęcone Ziemiom Odzyskanym; akty prawne obowiązujące na terenie całej Polski, w których część przepisów odrębnie regulowała sytuację na tych terenach, a także takie akty prawne, które formalnie dotyczyły całej Polski, ale na Ziemiach Odzyskanych ich znaczenie było szczególne. Przebadano również wewnętrzne przepisy Ministerstwa Ziem Odzyskanych.

    Fotografia prasowa w Polskiej Rzeczpospolitej Ludowej była narzędziem propagandy. Wprowadzenie w Polsce leninowskiego modelu prasy poprzedził kilkuletni okres planowania. Oprócz gazet mających charakter propagandowo-agitacyjny działały między innymi czasopisma określające się jako niemarksistowskie, jak katowicka „Odra”. Margines ich swobody z biegiem czasu coraz bardziej się kurczył. Świadectwem tego są między innymi fotografie. Obok przodowników pracy zamieszczano karykaturalne wizerunki Niemców, będące elementem dyskursu antyniemieckiego ukierunkowanego między innymi na uzasadnienie słuszności wysiedleń. W niniejszym artykule autor stawia pytanie o funkcjonowanie fotografii na łamach czasopisma stopniowo ulegającego naciskom propagandy.
    Press photography was a tool of propaganda in the Polish People's Republic. However, the period itself was not at all homogeneous, and the introduction of the Leninist model of the press in Poland was preceded by several years of planning. In addition to the propaganda and agitation press, there were also non-Marxist magazines, such as Odra in Katowice. The extent of their liberty shrank over time. This is evidenced by, among other aspects, photographs: next to labor leaders, cartoonish images of Germans were published, being an element of the anti-German discourse serving to justify forced expulsions. In the article, the author investigates the functioning of photography in the pages of a magazine gradually succumbing to the pressure of propaganda.
