Opis:
Legal and economic aspects connected with generating electricity from waves are discussed and a classification of wave energy converters is shown. The study discusses selected technical solutions generating electricity from sea and ocean waves. Research directions of the Maritime University of Szczecin, Poland, are presented in terms of energy conversion from wave energy into electricity and using sea wave energy for coast protection against waves. The potential of waves as a renewable energy source (in Europe and outside) is evaluated and problems connected with implementing wave energy conversion systems are outlined.

Opis:
The paper has as an objective to combine and disseminate a brief knowledge on generators and power electronics for Wave Dragon MW (WDMW) Power Take Off system. Wave Dragon MW captures power from sea waves by means of low-head turbines and converts it into rotating mechanical power. In recent years because of energy saving problem on almost whole world power electronics and electric machines as well as renewable energy market has been intensively developed. Problems which can appear in conversion mechanical power to electrical power in WDMW can be expected to be similar as in wind turbine. Therefore, state of the art briefly can base on state of the art for wind turbines. However, subject of the mechanical energy conversion from sea waves to electrical energy is not well identified and further research should be curried out.

Opis:
It is shown that the thermodynamic form of the equations describing processes in current-carrying systems is more general than Maxwell's equations. The erroneousness of his concept of a single electromagnetic field has been revealed. On the basis of the thermodynamic derivation of the Maxwell equations proposed earlier in their field form, a critical analysis of the postulates laid down in the basis of its electromagnetic theory of light is given, and its internal and external inconsistency is revealed. Numerous experimental data are presented, which indicate the existence of non-electromagnetic radiation. The conclusion is made that the theory of Maxwell is essentially limited and that it is necessary to develop a more general concept of light based on the existence of non-baryonic matter with properties identical to the ether and free from the contradictions of the electromagnetic theory.

Opis:
A non-electromagnetic theory of light is proposed, according to which the light-bearing medium is non-baryonic (unstructured) matter as the main component of the substance of the universe. The theory is based on available data on the existence in the intergalactic medium of closed density waves, which are combined into structural elements (particles) of baryonic matter. On the basis of the principle of the equivalence of mass and energy, and also of the theory of waves, the basic relations between the parameters of non-baryonic matter are derived and the possibility of the appearance of running waves in it that make it visible is shown. The unity of the properties of non-baryonic matter with ether is emphasized, and the absence in the theory of contradictions inherent in the electromagnetic concept of light. Experimental evidence of the proposed theory is presented and new approaches to a number of difficultly explainable phenomena, including levitation, are discussed.

Opis:
To harness the endless hydrokinetic energy of the Kuroshio current, the joint research team of the National Taiwan University and the National Taiwan Ocean University has developed a floating Kuroshio turbine (FKT) system in Taiwan. In normal operation, the system floats at a certain small depth from the ocean surface to reduce the wave effects and take advantage of faster current speeds. In the present study, the effect of the mooring line on the system dynamics is investigated computationally. Two different auxiliary mooring line designs and, for each design, three different common mooring lines (polyester ropes of neutral buoyancy, iron chains, and 6×19 wires ropes with wire core) are examined. The study makes use of several commercial and in-house packages, integrated to find various coefficients. It is found that the mooring line, the auxiliary mooring line design, and the gravity centre can have a significant effect on system fluctuations in normal operation if the combination of these factors is not properly matched.

Opis:
The Dirac equation consistent with the principles of quantum mechanics and the special theory of relativity, introduces a set of matrices combined with the wave function of a particle in motion to give rise to the relativistic energy-momentum relation. In this paper a new hypothesis, the wave function of a particle in motion is associated with a pair of complementary waves is proposed. This hypothesis gives rise to the same relativistic energy-momentum relation and achieves results identical to those of Dirac. Additionally, both the energy-time and momentum-position uncertainty relations are derived from the complementary wave interpretation. How the complementary wave interpretation of the Dirac equation is related to the time-arrow and the four-vectors are also presented.

Opis:
Propagation of time harmonic plane waves in an infinite thermo-viscoelastic material with voids has been investigated within the context of different theories of thermoelasticity. The equations of motion developed by Iesan [1] have been extended to incorporate the Lord-Shulman theory (LST) and Green-Lindsay theory (GLT) of thermoelasticity. It has been shown that there exist three coupled dilatational waves and an uncoupled shear wave propagating with distinct speeds. The presence of thermal, viscosity and voids parameters is responsible for the coupling among dilatational waves. All the existing waves are found to be dispersive and attenuated in nature. The phase speeds and attenuation coefficients of propagating waves are computed numerically for a copper material and compared under different theories of thermo-elasticity. The expressions of energies carried along each wave have also been derived. All the computed numerical results have been depicted through graphs. It is found that the influence of CT and GLT is almost same on wave propagation, while LST influences the wave propagation differently.

Opis:
The paper deals with a sandy shore located on the open sea side of the Hel Peninsula in Poland (the south Baltic Sea coast). The study site displays a cross-shore profile that intensively dissipates wave energy, mostly due to breaking. The theoretical modelling of wave transformation at this site reveals specific distributions of wave heights and bed shear stresses. The sediment borrow areas, presently used and identified for future exploitation, are located inconveniently far from the periodically re-nourished shores. The paper presents the possibilities of dredging works in the coastal zone that would not disturb the natural nearshore motion of water and sediments. The results of the study can be helpful in formulating generic safety standards, at least with respect to dissipative shores of non-tidal or micro-tidal seas, like the Baltic Sea.

Opis:
The effects of changes in Global climate on the prolonging time and the frequency of the periods of very high outside air temperature at summer were shown in the paper with particular emphasis on European moderate climate countries. In these countries, residential buildings, are usually equipped neither in air conditioning equipment, nor in ordinary window blinds. As the most promising solution it is suggested to resign completely or partially from ground slab thermal insulation, directly utilizing ground heat storage capacity. The paper includes detailed simulations on potential effect of various kind of floor construction and actions preventing high indoor air temperatures in building approach on air temperature inside the one-storey, passive residential buildings during consecutive days of very high outdoor temperature and total energy used yearly for additional heating and air conditioning.
