Opis:
The objective of this study is to examine the implementation of a combined scheme involving payment environment services (PES) and non-payment environment services (non-PES) in the management of the Cidanau River Basin. This study used exploratory research to analyse the structure and mechanism of PES and non-PES schemes for the governance system. The Cidanau Watershed governance is a pioneer in sustainable integrated water resources management in Indonesia and has persisted until the present time. The governance of the Cidanau Watershed is dynamic, resilient, and evolving in response to various changes in social and ecological systems. A bridging organisation like the Cidanau Watershed Communication Forum (Ind.: Forum Komunikasi DAS Cidanau - FKDC) requires legal standing to be visible and gain the trust of the public, especially when implementing a PES approach like the Cidanau River Basin, where service buyers utilise non-direct payment mechanisms. The challenging aspect of developing a PES scheme is empowering knowledge regarding the importance of soil and water preservation among upstream communities, particularly in developing countries like Indonesia, where upstream communities are predominantly composed of low-income farmers whose livelihoods depend on nature. The non-PES scheme represents the government’s mandatory responsibility, whereas the PES scheme presents public participation in active collaboration through the FKDC as an ad hoc institution. A combination of the non-PES and PES scheme approach can serve as a model and reference for similar river basin governance frameworks. Further research is needed regarding social networks and institutional development of sustainable watershed governance in the Cidanau River Basin.

There have been many studies on rainfall erosivity and erosivity density (ED). However, it was not widely developed in Indonesia as a tropical country and has unique precipitation patterns. They are indicators for assessing the potential risk of soil erosion. The Air Bengkulu Watershed is undergoing severe land degradation due to soil erosion. This study aimed to analyze spatial-temporal in rainfall erosivity and ED based on monthly rainfall data (mm). The data used consisted of 19 weather stations during the period 2006–2020 and which are sparsely distributed over the watershed. The analysis was done by using Arnold’s equation. Then, the trend was tested using parametric and non-parametric statistics, and analysed with linear regression equation, and Spearman’s Rho and Mann Kendall’s tests. The spatial distribution of both algorithms was analysed using the inverse distance weighted (IDW) method based on the geographic information system (GIS). Unlike previous research findings, The long-term average monthly rainfall erosivity and ED revealed a general increase and decreasing trend, whereas it was found to be non-signifi- cant when both indices were observed. However, these results indicate a range from 840.94 MJ · mm−1 · ha−1 · h−1 · a−1,552.42 MJ · mm−1 · ha−1 · h−1 · a−1 to 472.09 MJ · mm−1 · ha−1 · h−1 · a−1  in that November month followed by December and April are the most susceptible months for soil erosion. Therefore, The upstream area of the region shows that various anthropogenic activities must be managed properly by taking into account the rainfall erosivity on the environment and that more stringent measures should be followed in soil and water conservation activities.

Opis:
The downstream area of Renggung Watershed is a water conservation zone which is also dominated by rainfed land with dominant vertisol soil-clay fraction. Watershed downstream reaches 40% and is 30% of total area of Renggung Watershed. Rainfed farming is a factor in dry land farming, but the presence of rainfed land in downstream Renggung watershed does not receive intensification treatment as water becomes a limiting factor for plant growth. About 87-90% rainfall events in downstream Renggung watershed happen during the rainy season, from November to April, with 3-4 wet months, while about 10-13% happen during the dry season, from May to October. This means that water is abundant in wet months, but there is a shortage of water during the dry period. Based on zone group, 72% of potential water from rainfall occurs in the downstream zone, 18.3% occurs in the middle zone, and 10.4% in the upstream zone. Three quarters of potential water from rainfall occurs in downstream. Water management on rainfed land in downstream Renggung watershed is still not optimum, which is caused by (a) dependence on supply of water downstream from HLD BR, but discharge has declines in the last six months; (b) poor water management at the farming level, because plants are not cultivated in the right season; and (c) poor management institutions and water user groups, so forums to facilitate and mediate issues in terms of management and use of irrigation water is not optimal.

The article discusses the linkage between the colour changes of the recorded surface images of vanes and their state. For this purpose, we used a selection of techniques and methods for processing and analysis of digital images (pre-processing, watershed segmentation,) for the colour representation other than RGB model [2, 4]. Difficult to interpret pixel information was replaced with an area information (extracted in the process of segmentation areas with certain characteristics and attributes – the relationship between the state of the vane and its colour). The proposed colour representation of the surface of the vanes (HSV model) allows separation of image data – the separation of luminance (brightness) from the colour (chrominance). This enables better interpretation of the obtained results of segmentation, and thus the quality of the resulting diagnostic information is increased. The obtained results allow the introduction of the tri-status classification of the vanes (operable, partially operable, and inoperable). The study adopted operated vanes (with different technical state) of gas-turbine stator vanes of an aircraft jet engine, made from ŻS – 6K alloy. The digital surface images (photos) of vanes were recorded after their dismantlement, by the use of a digital camera (fixed conditions of registration, selection of the appropriate light source, uniform illumination of the photographed surfaces, no reflections). This information is essential for the on-going, non-destructive assessment of the technical state of vanes.

Opis:
Najczęściej wykorzystywane rozwiązania zatrzymujące zanieczyszczenia to stabilizujące pokrywy roślinne i drzewne bariery hydrauliczne.
Phytotechnologies are plant based technologies of remediation and containment of pollutions. Many advantages of phytotechnologies such as control of water and biogeochemical cycles, positive impact on soil characteristics and lowering the risk of erosion, contaminant immobilization and destruction, habitat restoration, low costs of implementation, and high public acceptance, decide that in more and more cases it is a preferred and recommended method of rehabilitation. Vegetation selected to the particular site conditions and having required characteristics will shape other biotic communities. It is thus immensely important to gather detailed knowledge about all the elements and processes occurring at the place of interest, before employing adequate phytotechnology application.

Opis:
Accurate estimation of surface runoff is a challenging task, but it is an important research topic because surface runoff plays a vital role in the study of the hydrological cycle, climate change, water resources, flood management, etc. Surface runoff reflects the amount of water that moves from the watershed into the river system and the amount that is drawn from it. The Big-Akaki watershed has suffered severe flooding due to increasing urbanization, deforestation, as well as reckless use of land and water resources that has led to the appearance of soil erosion. In our work, the SCS curve number was used to estimate runoff from the basin surface, and SWAT was used to delineate the basin and analyze the slope of the watershed, the soil and land uses. In addition, ground control points, interviews and field observation were carried out to collect data on the LULC classification. Moreover, model calibration (1991-1998) and validation (1999-2004) were performed for the monthly flow at the Akaki measuring station. The Big-Akaki watershed has a drainage area of 971,849 km2. The simulation was carried out by dividing the watershed into 33 sub-basins and assigning a hydrological response unit based on the definition of multiple HRU. The results indicate that SWAT generally works well by simulating runoff according to the result of three objectives (NSE, R2 and RSR). For surface runoff, the NSE, R2 and RSR values were 0.81, 0.82 and 0.44 during the calibration and 0.77, 0.77 and 0.48 during the validation period, respectively. Finally, the annual average precipitation and surface runoff of the Big-Akaki basin is 1183.56 mm and 227.634 mm, respectively. In addition, the results showed a direct relationship between rainfall and surface runoff.

Changes in land use as a result of human activities may generate the alteration of hydrometeorological disasters. Erosion, sedimentation, floods and landslides frequently occur in the Sanenrejo watershed (±292 km2), located in East Java, Indonesia. In this paper, the soil and water assessment tool (SWAT) model is used to evaluate the hydrological processes in this small watershed. The digital elevation model (DEM) is used as the primary input for deriving the topographic and physical properties of the watershed. Other input data used for the modelling processes include soil type, land use, observed discharge data and climate variables. These data are integrated into the SWAT to calculate discharge, erosion and sedimentation processes. The existing observed discharge data used to calibrate the SWAT output at the watershed outlet. The calibration results produce Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) of 0.62 and determination coefficient (R2) of 0.75, then the validation result of 0.5 (NSE) and 0.63 (R2). The middle area faced the highest erosion and sedimentation that potentially contribute to hydrometeorological disasters.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate an algorithm for generating an auto- matic portal system. This has been accomplished based on a given set of trian- gles. The proposed solution was designed to enhance the performance of a sound beam-tracing engine. This solution can also be used for other areas where portal systems are applicable. The provided technical solution emphasizes the beam tracing engine’s requirements. Our approach is based on the work of Haumont et al. (with additional improvements), resulting in improved scene segmenta- tion and lower computational complexity. We examined voxelization techniques and their properties, and have adjusted these to fit the requirements of a beam- tracing engine. As a result of our investigation, a new method for finding portal placement has been developed by adjusting the orientation of the found portals to fit the neighboring scene walls. In addition, we replaced Haumont et al.’s prevoxelization step, which is used for erasing geometrical details (for exam- ple, thin walls). This was done by smoothing the distance field that, in effect, eliminated incorrectly positioned portals. The results of our work remove the requirement for walls that separate rooms to have a particular thickness. We al- so describe a method for building a structure that accelerates real-time queries for determining the area where a given point is located. All of the presented techniques allow for the use of larger sized voxels, which increases performance and reduces memory requirements (not only during the preprocessing phase but also during real-time usage). The proposed solutions were tested using scenarios with scenes of varying complexity.

Opis:
Streamflow modelling is crucial for developing successful long-term management, soil conservation planning, and water resource management strategies. The current work attempts to develop a robust hydrological model that simulates streamflow with the slightest uncertainty in the calibration parameters. A physical-based and semidistributed hydrological SWAT model was employed to assess the hydrological simulation of the Ouergha watershed. The monthly simulation of the SWAT model achieved in the time frame from 1990 to 2013 has been split into warm-up (1990–1996), calibration (1997–2005), and validation (2006-2013). The SUFI-2 algorithm’s preliminary sensitivity and uncertainty analysis was done to calibrate the model using 11 hydrologic parameters. The model’s performance and robustness findings are promising. To evaluate the model, the coefficient of determination (R2), Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE), and percent of bias (PBIAS) were utilized. The value of R2, NSE, and PBIAS ranged from 0.45–0.77, 0.6–0.89, and +12.72 to +21.89% during calibration and 0.51–0.85, 0.64–0.88, and +8.82 to +22.19% during validation period, respectively. A high correlation between the observed and simulated streamflow was recorded during the calibration and validation periods. More than 68% of the observation data are encompassed by the 95PPU across both the calibration and validation intervals, which is excellent in terms of the P-factor and R-factor uncertainty criterion. The projected streamflow matches the observed data well graphically. According to the total hydrological water balance study, 29% of precipitation is delivered to streamflow as runoff, whereas 54% of precipitation is lost through evapotranspiration. The recharge to the deep aquifers is 8%, whereas the lateral flow is 10%. The findings of this study will help as a roadmap for the anticipated water management activities for the basin since the management and planning of water resources require temporal and spatial information.

Watershed transformation frequently produces over-segmented images. The authors propose a solution to this problem. It utilizes hierarchical cluster analysis for grouping watersheds which are treated as objects characterized by a number of attributes. Initially the watershed merging method was meant only for gray-scale images, but later it was adapted for colour images. This paper presents further extension of the method that allows it to either automatically select the numberof classes or to provide a hint as to which numbers in a specified range should be considered first.Segmentation quality assessment functions for colour images are presented. The results obtained using an extended watershed merging method are discussed. The examples of segmentations selected by the method, along with the graphs of assessment functions, are shown.

Climate, land use, and land cover change can propagate alteration to the watershed environment. The interaction between natural and human activities probably accelerates the change, a phenomenon that will generate serious environmental problems. This study aims to evaluate the change in the hydrological regime due to natural and human-induced processes. The study was conducted in Brantas watershed, Indonesia, which is the largest watershed in East Java. This area is populated by more than 8 million inhabitants and is the most urbanized area in the region. An analysis of rainfall time series use to shows the change in natural phenomena. Two land-use maps at different time intervals were used to compare the rapid development of urbanization, and the discharge from two outlets of the sub-watersheds was employed to assess hydrological changes. The indicator of hydrological alteration (IHA) method was used to perform the analysis. The daily discharge data are from 1996 to 2017. The research results show an increase in flow (monthly, 1-day, 3-day, 7-day, 30-day, and 90-day flows) in the two sub-watersheds (Ploso and Kertosono) from the pre-period (1996–2006) to the post-period (2007–2017).

Opis:
Soil loss assessment in watersheds is useful in developing plans for the protection and conservation of soil and water in a sustainable manner. This study aimed to determine erosion hazard classification and erosion hazard map using Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) as the basis of a soil and water conservation planning program. The RUSLE model was used to assess soil loss and guide the soil conservation efforts. Annual rainfall data, digital elevation model (DEM), land use map were used to generate the RUSLE parameters, namely rainfall-runoff erosivity factor (R), soil erodibility factor (K), slope length and steepness factor (LS), cover-management factor (C), and support practices factor (P). Erosion hazard is classified into five classes, namely very low, low, medium, high, and very high. On the basis of the results, at the Dolago watershed, very high erosion hazard was found in dryland of 577.95 t/ha/yr. Meanwhile, very low erosion hazard was found in the rice field of 2.22 t/ha/yr. The results help in planning and implementing soil and water conservation, both vegetatively and mechanically, to minimize the damage to watershed ecosystems. Validation and testing of the RUSLE model should be carried out in future studies because this is a strategic step to develop modeling of sediment yields effectively in an effort to mitigate major land damage in watersheds.

The participation of stakeholders is an important component in integrated and adaptive watershed planning and management. In Quebec, Canada watershed organizations are in the process of implementing participatory based watershed planning and management schemes. However, there is a lack of simple and readily implementable frameworks and methods to explicitly involve stakeholders, as well as integrate physical and social processes, in watershed planning and management in Quebec. This paper describes the application of the first three stages of a newly proposed five stage stepwise Participatory Model Building framework that was developed to help facilitate the participatory investigation of problems in watershed planning and management through the use of qualitative system dynamics models. In the agriculturally intensive Du Chene watershed in Québec, eight individual stakeholder interviews were conducted in cooperation with the local watershed organization to develop qualitative system dynamics models that represent the main physical and social processes in the Du Chene watershed. The proposed Participatory Model Building framework was found to be accessible for all the interviewees, and was deemed to be very useful by the watershed organization to develop an overview of the different perspectives of the main stakeholders in the watershed, as well as to help develop watershed policies and strategies. The individual qualitative system dynamics models developed in this study can subsequently be converted into an overall group built system dynamics model (describing the socio-economic-political components of the watershed), which in turn can be quantified and coupled with a physically based model such as HEC-HMS or SWAT (describing the physical components of the watershed).

Obecnie brakuje nieskomplikowanej i wygodnej we wdrożeniu metodyki uwzględnienia interesariuszy w zintegrowanym zarządzaniu zlewnią, w którym rozpatruje się ponadto zachodzące procesy społeczne i fizyczne.
