Opis:
The growing population and the development of industries in all countries of the world have created a very important and complex issue for water supply to cities. Today, many parts of the world are facing the problem of water shortage and this problem cannot be easily solved. In addition to the proper use of water resources and preventing the loss of natural water, the establishment of regional water supply networks is effective in meeting the future needs of the people. A water distribution network (water supply network) is a set of interconnected pipelines used to transport and distribute water in a complex. In designing the water distribution network, factors such as the type of water distribution network, water pressure, water velocity, design flow, minimum pipe diameter, pipe material and many other factors should be considered. In this study, we have tried to design the water supply network of a part of Balikpapan city in Indonesia. The design method led to the determination of pressure values in the connection nodes, pipe diameters, flow rate and velocity in the pipes. All the existing criteria are considered in the design of the water supply network. Although this study has been implemented for a specific study area, it can be of great help to designers in designing the water supply network.

Opis:
Transient flow control in Water Transmission Systems (WTS) is one of the requirements of designing these systems. Hence, among control equipment, air chambers offer the best solution to control transient flow effects, i.e. both prevents water column separation and absorbs pressure increase. It is essential to carry out an accurate and optimized design of air chambers, not only due to high costs of their manufacturing but also their important protective role. Accordingly, hydraulic design parameters comprise tank volume, diameter of nozzle and coefficients of inflow and outflow of nozzle. In this paper, it is intended to optimize these parameters in order to minimize manufacturing costs. On the other hand, maximum and minimum pressures in main pipeline are considered as constraints which shall fall in allowed range. Therefore, a model has been developed which is a combination of a hydraulic simulation model of WTS and an optimization model based on genetic algorithm. This model is first applied to WTS of Dehgolan-Ghorveh plain as a case study. Results of this research demonstrate that based on suggested model, negative wave creation and pressure increase in pipeline is prevented as well as decrease in manufacturing costs of air chamber.

Opis:
The paper describes an idea and the realization of a remote reading water meters system with wireless pictures transmission to the mobile server. The system consists of various water meters with installed electronic devices for measurement capturing. The measurements are read by taking a picture of the analog number indicators from the front panel. The pictures are send wirelessly to the mobile server which stores them until the acknowledgement from the main server is received. The mobile server is constructed of the microcomputer Raspberry Pi 3 connected with the XBee_PRO through adapter. The pictures transmission from the mobile server to the main server is realized by the Internet connection. The main server application allows recognizing the numbers from received pictures. The measurement data is available as digital numbers in a data base of the main server. The designed system is dedicated to the work in a low population density area.

Opis:
The article presents concepts of control of the manipulator with two degrees of freedom, which uses a water hydraulic power unit to drive the actuators. The proposed control system is based on the use of electromagnetically controlled “rosettes valve” and proportional flow control valve. The control system is implemented using a computer equipped with a module for the real-time operating system (XPC Target) working in connection with the environment Matlab/Simulink. Controlled variable of the drive system is the displacement of the individual hydraulic cylinder and after determining manipulator kinematics, any point of the object in operating space. The positioning error of individual manipulator elements will be determined during the test in terms of different control algorithms, using the PID controller and PWM signal. In addition, it analyses the impact of changes in the velocity of the piston rod for the boom mechanism and the arm mechanism. An important aspect of the presented hydrostatic drive system is the use of water as a medium that physical and chemical properties are different from commonly used hydraulic oil, and which is friendly to the environment and meet the high cleanliness requirements for the fluid used to transfer the hydrostatic energy. Therefore, the control system requires a different approach, tied with synchronous control valves ON/OFF and proportional control flow regulators to achieve high accuracy.

Opis:
In this paper, a 2D numerical modeling of sound wave propagation in a shallow water medium that acts as a waveguide, are presented. This modeling is based on the method of characteristic which is not constrained by the Courant–Friedrichs–Lewy (CFL) condition. Using this method, the Euler time-dependent equations have been solved under adiabatic conditions inside of a shallow water waveguide which is consists of one homogeneous environment of water over a rigid bed. In this work, the stability and precision of the method of characteristics (MOC) technique for sound wave propagation in a waveguide were illustrated when it was applied with the semi-Lagrange method. The results show a significant advantage of the method of characteristics over the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method.

Opis:
The shipping noise near channels and ports is an important contribution to the ambient noise level, and the depth of these sites is often less than 100 m. However less attention has been paid to the measurement in shallow water environments (Brooker, Humphrey, 2016). This paper presents extensive measurements made on the URN (underwater radiated noise) of a small fishing boat in the South China Sea with 87 m depth. The URN data showed that the noise below 30 Hz was dominated by the background noise. The transmission loss (TL) was modelled with FEM (finite element method) and ray tracing according to the realistic environmental parameters in situ. The discrepancy between the modelled results and the results using simple law demonstrates both sea surface and bottom have significant effect on TL for the shallow water, especially at low frequencies. Inspired by the modelling methodology in AQUO (Achieve QUieter Oceans) project (Audoly et al., 2015), a predicted model applied to a typical fishing boat was built, which showed that the URN at frequencies below and above 100 Hz was dominated by non-cavitation propeller noise and mechanical noise, respectively. The agreement between predicted results and measured results also demonstrates that this modelling methodology is effective to some extent.

Opis:
Efficiencies of unit processes such as flocculation, sedimentation and filtration were analyzed based on particle size distribution in one of the several water treatment plants supplying Cracow (Poland). The predicted efficiencies determined based on concentration of volumetric suspension, nephelometric turbidity and absorbance were compared with each other. Interpretation of the results was proposed based on the Mie scattering theory. The results of theoretical analysis suggested much stronger influence of finer particles on absorbance and nephelometric turbidity than that of larger particles. The experimental results confirmed this suggestion. Hence, the more efficient removal of larger particles during the process resulted in a higher efficiency of the process based on the concentration of volumetric suspension than those predicted based on the nephelometric turbidity or absorbance. For a rapid filtration process, which is strongly dynamic, relation was analyzed for various filter run times.

Opis:
The classical problem of water wave scattering by an infinite step in deep water with a free surface is extended here with an ice-cover modelled as a thin uniform elastic plate. The step exists between regions of finie and infinite depths and waves are incident either from the infinite or from the finite depth water region. Each problem is reduced to an integral equation involving the horizontal component of velocity across the cut above the step. The integral equation is solved numerically using the Galerkin approximation in terms of simple polynomial multiplied by an appropriate weight function whose form is dictated by the behaviour of the fluid velocity near the edge of the step. The reflection and transmission coefficients are obtained approximately and their numerical estimates are seen to satisfy the energy identity. These are also depicted graphically against thenon-dimensional frequency parameter for various ice-cover parameters in a number of figures. In the absencje of ice-cover, the results for the free surface are recovered.
