Opis:
In recent years, it has been observed that the performance and quality of in situ cemented paste backfill (CPB) samples are constantly lower than samples obtained from the same CPB mix poured into laboratory-prepared plastic moulds. This could be well explained by the absence of an efficient laboratory tool capable of mimicking CPB’s in situ placement, hardening, and curing conditions relating to stope size and geometry. To meet this need, a new laboratory tool named CUAPS (curing under applied pressure system) was manufactured and used to examine the effect of curing under effective stress on physico-chemical and mechanical properties of CPB, along with plastic mould samples. A comparative study was conducted for both CUAPS and mould samples containing a binder content of 3, 4.5, and 7 wt% after curing times of 7, 14, and 28 days. Results indicate that the performance of CUAPS-consolidated samples are always more realistic than those of plastic mould-unconsolidated samples mainly due to water drainage induced by consolidation. CUAPS has witnessed an advantageous effect on CPB hardening which includes the amount of bleeding water (separation of water from the fresh backfill material) and a combination of drainage of part of the mixing water and the settlement of paste backfill after its placement in the cap.

Opis:
Objectives A water pipe (hookah) is a tobacco smoking tool which is thought to be more harmless than a cigarette, and there are no adequate studies about its hazards to health. Water-pipe smoking is threatening health of the youth in the world today. The objective of this study has been to investigate the carbon monoxide (CO) levels in breath, examine the changes in pulmonary function tests (PFT) and to assess the change of the oxidative stress parameters in blood after smoking a water pipe. Material and Methods This study is a cross-sectional analytical study that has included 50 volunteers who smoke a water pipe and the control group of 50 volunteers who smoke neither a cigarette nor a water pipe. Carbon monoxide levels were measured in the breath and pulmonary function tests (PFTs) were performed before and after smoking a water pipe. Blood samples were taken from either the volunteer control group or water-pipe smokers group after smoking a water pipe for the purpose of evaluation of the parameters of oxidative stress. Results Carbon monoxide values were measured to be 8.08±7.4 ppm and 28.08±16.5 ppm before and after smoking a water pipe, respectively. This increment was found statistically significant. There were also significant reductions in PFTs after smoking a water pipe. Total oxidative status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) were found prominently higher after smoking a water pipe for the group of water-pipe smokers than for the control group. Conclusions This study has shown that water-pipe smoking leads to deterioration in pulmonary function and increases oxidative stress. To the best of our knowledge this study is the only one that has shown the effect of water-pipe smoking on oxidative stress. More studies must be planned to show the side effects of water-pipe habit and protective policies should be planned especially for young people in Europe. Water stress and provenance could affect the secondary metabolites synthesis and accumulation in herbs. Thus, this study explored the effect of soil water moisture and provenance on the growth of Paris polyphylla Smith var. yunnanensis (PPY). Three provenances (Jinping, Luquan and Weixi in Yunnan, China) of PPY samples were grown in different soil water moisture conditions [0.80, 0.70 and 0.50 field capacity (FC)] during Dec. 2015 to Sep. 2017. Results showed that the highest biomass weight was presented in 0.70 FC for Luquan and Weixi samples. Biomass weight for Jinping provenance presented a decreasing tendency with the decreased soil water moisture and the highest biomass were shown in 0.80 FC. However, quantitative analysis revealed that the total content of polyphyllin increased with decreasing the soil water moisture for Jinping and Weixi samples. The highest total content of polyphyllin in rhizome was inclined to show in Jinping samples, while the stem and leaf tissues were shown in Weixi samples. Additionally, results of ANOVA combined with PCA indicated that the difference among these three provenances were significant. Correlation analysis results revealed that 0.50 FC induced the competitive relationship occurrence for polyphyllin distribution. Thus, 0.70 FC was the most suitable soil-water condition for PPY growth. Besides, provenance collected from Jinping could consider as a good quality germplasm. Consequently, this study might provide a preliminary foundation for irrigation project formulated and provenance screened for PPY cultivation.

Extreme sea levels – storm-generated surges and falls – on the Polish coast are usually the effects of three components: the volume of water in the southern Baltic (the initial level preceding a given extreme situation), the action of tangential wind stresses in the area (wind directions: whether shore- or seaward; wind velocities; and wind action duration), and the sea surface deformation produced by deep, mesoscale baric lows moving rapidly over the southern and central Baltic that generate the so-called baric wave. Among these factors, the baric wave is particularly important for, i.e. the water cushion underneath the baric depression, moving along the actual atmospheric pressure system over the sea surface.

Numerical simulation experiments with a high-resolution circulation model were carried out to study nutrient transport from different depths to the surface 10-m layer during an upwelling event along the northern coast of the Gulf of Finland in July 1999. The initial nutrient distribution is based on field measurements performed in the north-western part of the Gulf. Wind forcing covering the period of the upwelling along the northern coast was turned through 180◦ to simulate an upwelling along the southern coast. The simulation results showed that the main phosphorus transport to the upper 10-m layer occurred from depths shallower than 30 m for the upwelling events along both the northern and the southern coasts. Nitrogen transport to the upper 10-m layer was the largest from depths of 40–55 m for the upwelling along the northern and 40–65 m for the upwelling along the southern coast. Simulated cumulative volume transports to the upper 10-m layer from different depths showed that the contribution from deeper layers was larger in the case of the upwelling along the southern coast. The reduction of wind stress had a bigger influence on water transport from the deeper layers.

Hydraulic equipment on board ships is common. It assists in the work of: steering gear, pitch propellers, watertight doors, cargo hatch covers, cargo and mooring winches, deck cranes, stern ramps etc. The damage caused by transient flows (which include among others water hammer) are often impossible to repair at sea. Hence, it is very important to estimate the correct pressure runs and associated side effects during their design. The presented study compares the results of research on the impact of a simplified way of modeling the hydraulic resistance and simplified effective weighting functions build of two and three-terms on the estimated results of the pressure changes. As it turns out, simple effective two-terms weighting functions are able to accurately model the analyzed transients. The implementation of the presented method will soon allow current automatic protection of hydraulic systems of the adverse effects associated with frequent elevated and reduced pressures.

The goal of this study is to determine the crop water stress index (CWSI) and irrigation scheduling based on CWSI values, as well as to examine the correlations between CWSI, physiological parameters and grain yield of hybrid corn P31A34 in semi-arid climate conditions. In 2014 and 2015, the upper limit (UL) temperatures at which plants were entirely exposed to water stress were 1.178°C and 2.38°C, respectively. When the corn grain yield began to decline, the CWSI threshold value was 0.34, indicating the yield limit. Grain yield, crop water consumption, crop water stress index, chlorophyll content, water use efficiency and leaf area index were found to have negative correlations (p ≤ 0.01) with CWSI values in both years of the study. The findings revealed that in semi-arid climate conditions, a maximum of 30% water deficit could be used during the growing period of the corn compared to full irrigation (I100) for water savings and that a water deficit greater than 30% results in considerable grain yield losses. In areas with limited water resources, the moderate water deficit (I70) may be a viable alternative to the I100.

This study was conducted to determine crop water stress index (CWSI) values and irrigation timing in the case of Derinkuyu dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). In 2017, dry beans were grown as the main crop according to the field design consisting of plots divided into randomised blocks. Irrigation treatment comprised full irrigation (I100) and irrigation issues with three different levels of water stress (I66, I33, I0). This study applied 602 mm of water under the I100 irrigation. The yield of Derinkuyu dry beans was equal to 3576.6 kg∙ha-1 in I100 irrigation. The lower limit (LL) value, which is not necessary for the determination of CWSI, was obtained as the canopy-air temperature difference (Tc - Ta) versus the air vapour pressure deficit (VPD). The upper limit (UL) value, at which the dry beans were wholly exposed to water stress, was obtained at a constant temperature. The threshold CWSI value at which the grain yield of dry beans started to decrease was determined as 0.33 from the measurements made with an infrared thermometer before irrigation in I66 irrigation treatment. As a result, it can be suggested that irrigation should be applied when the CWSI value is 0.33 in dry beans. Furthermore, the correlation analysis revealed a negative correlation between grain yield and crop water stress index and a positive correlation between yield and chlorophyll content. According to variance analysis, significant relationships were found between the analysed parameters at p ≤ 0.01 and p ≤ 0.05.

This research evaluated rice growth and yield as well as Zn accumulation in both soil and grain under saline water irrigation conditions. The experiment consisted of a series of pots containing rice plants and paddy soil, with the application of irrigation treatments of five different salinity levels (1.5, 2, 3, 4, and 5‰ with a drip irrigation system). The results show that the salinity accumulation levels in soil can increase by up to 2.8‰ following the application of 5‰ salinity irrigation water during the development stages. Besides, this study also aimed to evaluate the influences of saline water irrigation on the observed rice yields, plant height, leaf length, and leaf width. In the results, irrigation with 3‰ saline water reduced potential rice yield by 58.6% and the length of rice leaves by one-third. Higher salinity of 4‰ in the irrigation water produced only 24% of average potential productivity, and 5‰ water salinity resulted in no yield. Furthermore, salt stress limited the mobile Zn content in paddy soil, reducing the Zn accumulation in grains by between 36.27% and 83.21%. Thus, the study shows that controlling salinity in irrigation water management is essential for controlling the yield and nutrient Zn content in rice grains.

Opis:
Drought, water scarcity and climate changes are very important threats for agriculture on a global basis. Remote Sensing (RS) is accepted as a technique to collect data and determine water stress indices. Water Stress Indices (WSI) are useful tools to prevent drought and determine irrigation scheduling. The water stress indices are primarily identified as the Crop Water Stress Index (CWSI) and the Water Deficit Index (WDI). The effect of soil background is major problem to establish CWSI especially during early growth stage measurements of canopy temperature (Ts). Hence, WDI is a better index when it comprised with CWSI because of Ts. CWSI and WDI can be determined by two different techniques. These are determined by using measured by using traditional components to collect data and estimated methods by applying RS components to collect necessary data. Estimated method has many advantages when this method compared with measured method. However, estimated method needs some RS components which are infrared gun (IR), sling psychrometer, Spectro radiometer. With the help of these tools, the necessary data are obtained and WDI is determined. By using Spectro radiometer vegetation indices are defined. Among the many vegetation indices, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is mostly used one. By using NDVI determination of vegetation cover is easy and accurate technique to establish WDI. Establishing these both stress indices with less fieldwork and by saving money, time and labor conveys the necessary information for agriculturists using remotely sensed data especially for large agricultural fields.
