Opis:
W przekroju wsi zwierciadło wody podniosło się o ok. 3,5 m w stosunku do normalnego poziomu wody w rzece przed budową stopnia. Aby nie dopuścić do znacznego podniesienia się wód gruntowych i podtopienia wsi wykonane zostały drenaże i rowy odwadniające. Obecnie, mimo opisanych wyżej urządzeń, obserwuje się wysoki poziom wód gruntowych na terenie zabudowanym wsi, piwnice budynków są stale zalewane wodą.
The Krzywaniec barrage dams the waters of the Bóbr River and allows the water to be directed to the derivative canal of the Dychów hydropower plant. On the shore of the reservoir, there is the village of Cieszów. In the cross-section of the village, the water table rose by about 3.5 m in relation to the normal water level in the river before the construction of the barrage. Drainage and drainage ditches were made to prevent a significant rise of groundwater and flooding of the village. Currently, despite the devices described above, a high level of groundwater is observed in the built-up area of the village, and the basements of buildings are constantly flooded with water.

Regulation of surface runoff in urban areas with temporary delay by infiltration basins of rainwater in the places of their precipitation and with gradual drainage through the existing reservoirs of small diameters is the most appropriate under the conditions of intensive building development, wear and imperfection of surface drainage systems, especially combined sewerage. Evaluation of application conditions and basic parameters of infiltration basins in surface drainage regulation was carried out on the basis of own experimental studies of infiltration basin fragment with upper typical vegetation layer, numerical computer modeling of surface runoff formation in urban areas, its regulation using infiltration basins and analysis of previous studies. Its water absorption, filtration and clearing indicators were defined on the basis of experimental studies. The self-regenerative restoring function of a vegetative layer, working conditions under the flooded and not flooded conditions were established and defined. According to the amount of suspended solids, BOD, oxidation, pH and dissolved oxygen, the quality of rain runoff when filtering water through the upper vegetation layers of infiltration basins decreases to the normative values.

In this study, it was aimed at determining the seasonal variability in the sediment concentrations observed in an agricultural drainage basin. This research was carried out in an agricultural basin of 9 495 ha, located in the Cukurova region within the borders of Adana province, in Turkey. In order to determine the sediment concentrations, an automatic water sampler was set at the outlet (L4) of the main drainage channel (YD2) that provides drainage of the basin. Drainage water samples with 250 ml volume were taken on a daily time step. Sediment concentration values of the water samples taken were determined in the laboratory by the drying and evaporation method. The sediment concentration series observed in the 2020 hydrological year were directly associated with the sediment data observed simultaneously at the drainage flow observation station located in the Sirkenli village, downstream of the YD2. Daily sediment concentration series in L4 was disaggregated by months and seasons of the hydrologic year 2020 to make a temporal comparison among the data. Temporal analysis showed that the sediment concentration values have been prone to an increase in heavily rainy periods as well as in irrigation season. Additionally, it was determined that the correlation between sediment concentration values and drainage water depths in the main drainage channel was statistically insignificant during the peak irrigation season. The insignificant corre lation between sediment concentration and drainage water depth might be ascribed to the direct by-pass irrigation flows to the drainage system of the agricultural basin.

Opis:
A new approach for sites prioritization and designing measures on land drainage was developed and tested on the 96.5 km2 Žejbro catchment (Czech Republic). The aim was to design an effective, mutually interconnected system of measures, on tiles, manholes, outlets as well as on ditches (s.c. main drainage facilities, MDF) that will increase water retention and storage in intensively farmed and tile-drained catchments and will reduce water pollution from subsurface non-point sources (drainage runoff). This approach consists of (I) selecting suitable sites using the Catchment Measures Need Index (CAMNI) method; (II) obtaining information on land drainage in the area of interest; (III) conducting a field survey and water quality monitoring; (IV) designing appropriate systems of measures; and (V) analysing the estimated costs of the proposed measures. Measures were proposed for fourteen sub-catchments that were selected based on the results of a CAMNI analysis and whether an MDF or a heavily modified stream is present. A total of 44 point measures, 62 areal measures, and 99 line measures were proposed. Implementation of these measures would reduce the load of N-NO3, a major pollutant from drainage runoff, by 44 tons per year (48%). From the financial point of view, these measures are not self-financing and the benefits do not cover the expected costs of their implementation and maintenance. However, these measures have a profound ecological and societal benefits which, when taken into account, make these measures suitable for implementation when (co-)financed from public budgets. Putting the presented approach into practice, for example, in the framework of complex land consolidations or by watershed management authorities, could significantly improve the condition and water regime of intensively drained agricultural landscapes.

The Cisadane River, Tangerang City, is one of the most important rivers in Indonesia. This river provides raw water for Municipal Waterworks (PDAM) of the Tangerang City and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, but the water quality tends to deteriorate due to pollution. The government has made various efforts to manage the river water quality, but no significant resolution was issued yet. The problem is becoming more complicated due to land-use changes that affect the pollutant load. Therefore, more precise, integrated, and comprehensive management is needed. This study used an approach with various methodologies according to the stages of the research, including; qualitative and quantitative analysis, GIS, statistics, risk management, and System Dynamic. The outcome of this research was the development of the policies in river water quality management, specifically land use manage-ment, separation of drainage channels from domestic sewage channels, enhancement of Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) services coverage, as well as reinforcement of institutional and regulatory aspects, especially in funding commitments.

The paper focuses on research on improving the water supply of drainage systems of humid areas in the context of anthropogenic climate change. The aim of the research is to elaborate on the ways for increasing the available water supply of drainage systems and restoring active water regulation on reclaimed lands in a changing climate. Reclaimed lands are the main factor of sustainable agricultural production in Ukraine and guarantors of its stability. The area of drained lands in Ukraine is about 3.2 million hectares, including 2.3 million hectares drained with the help of closed drainage; in an area of 1.3 million hectares a two-way regulation of the soil water regime is carried out. An increase in air temperature and uneven distribution of precipitation, which has a torrential, local character in the warm period, do not allow for the effective accumulation of moisture. The recurrence of droughts in different justified climatic zones of Ukraine has increased by 20–40%, which prevents sustainable agricultural production in the zone of sufficient atmospheric moisture, in particular the Polesie Ecoregion. In this paper, the analysis of water consumption of reclaimed lands in the Polesie Ecoregion of Ukraine is carried out, on the examples of the drainage system “Maryanivka” and the calculation of the water supply for the corn and winter wheat.

The paper presents the concept and deployment of the agro-hydro-meteorological monitoring system (abbrev. AgHMM) created for the purposes of operational planning of regulated drainage and irrigation on the scale of a drainage/irrigation system (INOMEL project). Monitoring system involved regular daily (weekly readings) measurements of agrometeorological and hydrological parameters in water courses at melioration object during vegetation seasons. The measurement results enable an assessment of the meteorological conditions, moisture changes in the 0-60 cm soil profile, fluctuations of groundwater levels at quarters and testing points, also water levels in ditches and at dam structures, and water flow in water courses. These data were supplemended by 7-day meteorological forecast parameter predictions, served as input data for a model of operational planning of drainage and subirrigation at the six melioration systems in Poland. In addition, it was carried out irregular remote sensing observations of plant condition, water consumption by plants and soil moisture levels using imagery taken by unmanned aerial vehicles and Sentinel’s satellites. All the collected data was used for support operational activities aimed at maintaining optimal soil moisture for plant growth and should to provide farmers with high and stable yields. An example of the practical operations using the AgHMM system in 2019 is shown on the basis of the subirrigation object at permanent grasslands located in central Poland called “Czarny Rów B1”.

The article provides an overview of spatial and legal solutions related to the issue of water management in cities in the context of climate change. The aim of the research is to identify the main differences between the traditional and integrated approaches to water-related infrastructure based on case studies of European Cities at different scales. Gathering, ordering and comparing adequate solutions will allow to establish guidelines for the development of Polish cities and point out directions for architects and urban planners designing urban spaces. The comparison of good examples with theory would make it possible to verify whether practise corresponds with theory, and whether it can actually - through the synergy of measures - bring new quality to urban areas.

The paper presents the results of the research on improving the available water supply of drainage systems in the humid zone of Ukraine in a changing climate. It was specified in the face of increasing water scarcity providing the optimal water regime regulation on drained lands is possible due to the increase in the available water supply of drainage systems. It can be achieved thanks to the accumulating capacity of reclaimed areas, namely usage of free soil capacity of the aeration zone and open canals, accumulation of water reserve volumes in storage tanks due to the accumulation of surface and drainage runoff. Taking into account the design features of different types of drainage systems, existing water management technologies, characteristics of water sources and their close proximity to the drainage systems, the technological schemes of water intake from rivers and reservoirs, and its supply to the drained areas for irrigation needs were developed. In a face of increasing water scarcity, it is also expedient to apply resource-saving technologies to control the available water supply for crops.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) due to natural and anthropogenic processes are widely spread substances in the environment. It was proved that some of these pollutants can cause serious humans health problems such as hemolytic anemia, liver, cataracts and retina damage, neurological diseases, and primarily some PAHs are cancerogenic. These substances are hardly removable biologically so modern techniques such as ultrasonication should be developed. The articles reveal the removal effectiveness of 7 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) which were recognized in water from highway drainage system by using the ultrasound treatment process. Results showed that after 45 min of sonication, the average removal of PAHs reached 59%. The reduction of analyzed substances was proportional to treated time and irradiation amplitude. Furthermore, because of ozone addition to the sonicated samples, the efficiency of the treatment was significantly higher. The average PAHs degradation rate at the 10 mgL–1 dosage of O3 assisted with ultrasonication was equal to 96%.

The work presented the assessment of household wastewater treatment plants with drainage systems on the quality of groundwater in dug wells and deep water wells in the area of 3 selected communes (Drelów, Dębowa Kłoda and Urszulin), located in the Lublin province in south-eastern Poland. The investigations of the physicochemical composition of water from selected 28 dug wells and 2 deep water wells were conducted from June to July 2020, involving 9 measurement series. The microbiological studies consisted in 4 measurement series. The composition of the wastewater from primary settling tanks discharged to soil via drainage systems located in the vicinity of considered wells was also examined on a single occasion. The studies indicate that the water from wells are significantly polluted with ammonia, nitrites, as well as compounds of natural origin: iron and manganese. The presence of microbiological pollution of fecal origin was noted. The studies clearly indicate the possible pollution of the analyzed well waters with domestic sewage discharged to soil via drainage systems. Therefore, it necessary to take the actions aimed at improving the quality of groundwater in the Lublin province, including limitation of drainage systems, especially in the areas with unfavorable subsurface and hydrological conditions as well as low water supply coverage. The need to introduce changes in legal regulations and strategies for the development of technical infrastructure in counties, favoring the most efficient, as well as simple and inexpensive technologies, was indicated.

Opis:
Phosphorus (P) is essential for plant growth and yield. Balanced fertilization can produce a yield-sustaining effect, but excessive P applied to agricultural soils poses a risk by losing excess of phosphorus to the aquatic environment. This is undesir- able from both an economic and environmental perspective as it wastes a finite phosphorus rock and represents a serious environ- mental hazard in the form of pollution and eutrophication of the aquatic resources. For this reason, proven methods of estimating the risk of P losses from agricultural land are needed. The aim of this study was to assess the content of soil available phosphorus (SP) and soil phosphorus sorption saturation (Psat) in arable soils and assess if they can be used to predict P in waters from drain- age outlets from adjacent arable land. The determination of phos- phorus content in the soil and determination of Psat was carried out using Mehlich 3 extractant. Psat was calculated as the molar ratio of P to the extractable Fe and Al in one solution. The aver- age phosphorus content determined in the soil by the Mehlich 3 method was 101.8 mg kg-1. Psat was on average 11.8%. The aver- age content of phosphorus in water samples from drain outlets was 0.1 mgP dm -3.

Plastic, especially polyethylene (PE), pipe material is increasingly used in mining applications due to its inert nature, flexibility, low density, and low cost. Though resistant to chemical corrosion, it is susceptible to abrasion. To combat this problem, an abrasion-resistant liner is in development. However, it is not yet known how the liner will perform with regards to other common problems that affect pipe systems, such as mineral scale buildup. In mining applications, scale buildup occurs due to the very high contents of suspended and dissolved solids in water or slurry. For example, in systems transporting raw or treated acid mine drainage (AMD), scale can form on pipe surfaces due to sedimentation or the diffusion of particles onto the surface, or precipitation of solids directly onto the surface. In this study, pipe-loop experiments were conducted in the laboratory under three idealized AMD treatment scenarios (i.e., untreated, passively treated and actively treated) to compare mineral scale buildup on traditional versus lined PE pipe materials.
