Opis:
The study has been carried out at two experimental sites. It aims to assess the impact of the reuse of raw wastewater, purified and diluted with conventional water on the physicochemical quality of soils compared to irrigated soils with conventional drilled water and non-irrigated soil. The obtained results show that the electrical conductivity EC and sodium gradually increase in all the plots irrigated with wastewater. Additionally, a slight increase in the pH levels at the first site and a slight decrease in the second site was seen, but at both sites the soils remained alkaline. The infiltration rate of water slide decreases in relation to the amount of irrigation, especially in plots irrigated by raw and treated wastewater. For the same plots, the values of organic matter increased, and the values obtained for the exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) became high in the third year and reached 17.0% and 16.7% respectively.

Water is an important part of all living things, including humans, animals, and plants, but concern for clean water is decreasing due to numerous human activities, which cause pollution. Water pollution is characterized by changes in physical, chemical and biological contents due to the wastes generated from the actions of living things, such as water irrigation. Therefore, this research aimed to overcome irrigation wastewater pollution using the Internet of Things (IoT)-based phytoremediation method, water hyacinth, apu-apu, and lotus. It was carried out using a tool monitoring system based on IoT technology with parameters for measuring pH, temperature, and water turbidity through the internet network. The results showed that the acidity level increased by 7–8 with a decrease in COD using water hyacinth, apu-apu, and lotus by 41.55%, 32.77%, and 32.91%, respectively. The BOD level using water hyacinth, as well as apu-apu and lotus decreased by 37.82%, and 31.54%, respectively. The decrease in phosphate level using water hyacinth, apu-apu and lotus was by 3.55%. Finally, the decrease in nitrate level using water hyacinth plants, apu-apu and lotus was 13.83%, 9.61% and 19.61%, respectively.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of 20-year-long irrigation of permanent grasslands with potato starch and brewery wastewater on the botanical composition of sward, yield and nutritional value of hay. The experiment was conducted in the center for wastewater treatment and use in Mątwica-Kupiski (668 ha), which has been equipped with facilities for flood irrigation with wastewater since 1965. Potato starch and brewery effluents were mixed in a storage reservoir at a ratio of 1:0.4. Meadow sward was irrigated with wastewater in autumn and after the first harvest, at an annual dose of 200 – 300 mm. On average, wastewater contained (mg dm-3): N – 223, P – 48, K – 285, Ca – 80, Mg – 46, Na – 68. Before the first harvest in 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018, the floristic composition of meadow sward was determined on an 11-degree scale by the Klapp method. Yield was determined in trial plots. Based on the percentage of dominant species (above 20% share of the sward), several floristic types of grassland communities were identified. Herbage samples were collected for detailed botanical and chemical analyses according to the floristic composition of the identified grassland communities. Chemical analyses of plant material were performed by standard methods. Longterm irrigation of meadow sward with wastewater contributed to the development of agronomically important plant communities, except for the Agropyron repens community in the western part of the research site. The yield of grassland irrigated with wastewater, regardless of a floristic type, was 2- to 3-fold higher than the yield of non-irrigated grassland. Hay harveste in wastewater-irrigated meadows met the crude fiber, ash and fat requirements of animals. The total protein content of hay remained within the recommended limits for high-quality fodder, except for the Alopecurus pratensis + Agropyron repens community.

Polluted water poses significant health risks when it is part of the water sources used for irrigation, leading to the contamination of soil and plants by various pollutants. This work aims, firstly, to assess the degree of pollution of Wadi El Gourzi water (Batna, Algeria), and then to verify the consequences on their use for the irrigation of market garden plants for everyday consumption (lettuce, cilantro, parsley and spinach), both in the aerial part (stems and leaves) and in the soil where they are grown. This study focuses on trace metals (Cr, Pb, Zn and Cd). Soil pollution was assessed by calculating the soil pollution index (PI), while the uptake of these elements by plants was monitored by the transfer factor (TF). The analyses of the Wadi El Gourzi water with the flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer (FAAS) show a maximum abnormal concentration of Cr (17.37 mg∙dm-3), Pb (0.71 mg∙dm-3) and Cd (0.45 mg∙dm-3). For the analysis of the soils irrigated by these waters, the results of the PI show that the soils used for the cultivation of parsley and lettuce are polluted by several metals (PI > 1). The concentrations of trace metals elements (TMEs) in the sampled plants show a significant accumulation of Zn, Cd, Pb and Cr by the vegetables (coriander, parsley, spinach and lettuce). These concentrations are above the permitted standards.

The objective of this study was to determine the influence of 20-year sprinkler irrigation of permanent grassland with potato starch and brewery wastewater on the botanical composition of sward, and the yield and nutritional value of hay. The experiment was carried out in Kupiski-Jednaczewo, near Łomża, NE Poland (approximately 600 ha). Potato starch and brewery effluents were mixed at a ratio of 1:0.4. Wastewater was applied in autumn and after the first harvest, at an annual dose of 200-300 mm. The analyzed wastewater contained on average (mg dm-3): N – 223, P – 48, K – 285, Ca – 80, Mg – 46 and Na – 68. Five major floristic types of grassland communities were identified based on the percentage of dominant species (above 20% share of the sward). Herbage samples were collected for botanical-gravimetric and chemical analyses. Soil samples were collected in 1991 and 2018. Chemical analyses of soil and plant material were performed by standard methods. The following floristic types of grassland communities developed: Alopecurus pratensis (Ap), Arrhenatherum elatius (Ae), Dactylis glomerata + Festuca rubra (Dg+Fr), and Poa pratensis + Dactylis glomerata (Pp+Dg), Phalaris arundinacea + Glyceria maxima (Pha+Gm), and the Festuca rubra + Anthoxanthum odoratum (Fr+Ao) community in the control treatment (non-irrigated grassland). The content of P, K, Fe, Cu, Mn and Zn increased, whereas the content of Ca, Mg and Na, and pH levels decreased in the analyzed soils. Regardless of the floristic type of sward, the yield of grassland irrigated with wastewater was significantly (1.6 to 2.8-fold) higher than the yield of non-irrigated grassland. Hay harvested from wastewater-irrigated meadows met the nutrient requirements of animals in terms of crude fiber, ash and fat, excluding total protein.

Opis:
The results of four-year research concerning variability of mercury speciation forms, contained in soil, subject to treated wastewaters from low-tonnage oleochemical production were analyzed in this paper. Doses of sewage directed to experimental patches were limited by total nitrogen concentration, with the total doses not exceeding the limit of 170 kg · (ha · year)–1. Every year, the experimental patches were sown with plants; in the subsequent years these were: oats, rape, triticale and mustard. Then, the plants were put into soil as green fertilizers in the whole weight. After an analysis of the fractional composition in soil samples handled with treated wastewater in the experimental period, a gradual decline of the exchangeable fractions was found. Moreover, an increase of the fraction connected with carbonates and stability of the fraction connected with hydrous iron and manganese oxides and the so-called organic connections fraction, and remaining fraction was found.
Przedstawiono wyniki czteroletnich badań nad zmiennością form specjacyjnych rtęci oznaczanej w glebie poddanej działaniu podczyszczonych ścieków z mało tonażowej produkcji oleochemicznej. Dawki ścieków kierowanych na poletka doświadczalne limitowano stężeniem azotu ogółem, w łącznych porcjach nieprzekraczających granicznej ilości 170 kg · (ha · rok)–1. Poletka doświadczalne corocznie były obsiewane roślinnością, w kolejnych latach: owsem, rzepakiem, pszenżytem i gorczycą, które w formie zielonego nawozu były w całej masie wprowadzane do gleb. Analizując w okresie doświadczalnym skład frakcyjny w próbkach gleby traktowanej ściekami podczyszczonymi, stwierdzono sukcesywny spadek zawartości frakcji wymywalnej, natomiast wzrost frakcji związanej z formami węglanowymi oraz stabilność frakcji związanej z uwodnionymi tlenkami żelaza i manganu oraz frakcji tzw. połączeń organicznych i pozostałej.

Opis:
Questions of reuse of drainage water and wastewater of rice systems on the example of rice irrigation systems are determined. The technological scheme, which saves water and energy resources during the irrigation of crops in the rice system, is proposed. Calculations of economic efficiency of water circulation technology in the Danube rice irrigation systems (RIS) with drainage water and wastewater (DWW) dilution with fresh water in the ratio of 1 : 1 showed that the net profit will amount to UAH 26,266.5 per 1 ha, while the dilution in the ratio of 1 : 2 – to UAH 26,161.5 per 1 ha. Complementary net profit will accordingly amount to UAH 1,337.8 and 1,231.5 per 1 ha. The most perspective technique to use DWW in rice irrigation systems is their reuse with dilution with fresh water at a ratio of 1 : 1 or 1 : 2. This ratio corresponds to most indicators for which was done an evaluation of water that is supplied for irrigation. Also this ratio does not lead to deterioration of soil salt regime.

Opis:
The objective of this work is the agroecological substantiation of the use of treated wastewater for irrigation of agricultural land. As the result of the experimental research, it was established that the soil microflora plays an essential role in strengthening or weakening the biological activity of soil. Therefore, with an irrigation rate of 250 m3/ha of wastewater, a 1.5 times increase in the number of microbiota colonies is observed on average both in hog farms and cattle breeding complexes; with a rate of 350 m3/ha – a 2-fold increase; with a rate of 450 m3/ha – a 3.5–4-fold increase. An increase in nitrifying soil features has also been observed. Thus, if the value on the control in the soil layer from 0 cm to 60 cm is 27.2 mg of nitrate per 1 kg of arid soil, in the version with wastewater irrigation it reaches 46.7 mg. According to the research results, the use of defecate, the waste of sugar production, in the treatment of wastewater of livestock farms does not have a negative agroecological impact on the soil. Therefore, the method of wastewater treatment of pig-breeding complexes and farms can be recommended for use in irrigation reclamation, which includes treatment of wastewater with burnt defecate in the dose of 50–200 mg/dm3, with the pH value varying in the range of 7.5–8.5. After settling-out of the obtained mixture in settlers, it is divided into a transparent liquid fraction and the sediment, i.e. an organomineral fertilizer. Afterwards, the fluid body is fed to irrigation of agricultural land, and its excess is discharged into waterways and reservoirs. The sediment is fed to the vortex layer equipment with mobile ferromagnetic particles or thermolized, where their complete disinfection takes place.

Opis:
Microcystis blooms and the related toxin known as microcystin-LR (MC-LR) put the safety of human water consumption and global irrigation practices in jeopardy. MC-LR is widely distributed in various environments, including water, sediments, plants, and other aquatic organisms. The use of water-containing microcystins for agricultural purposes may have to be restricted despite the limited availability of clean water resources. Accordingly, the present work aimed to determine the MC-LR concentrations and recognize the environmental parameters that initiate the growth of toxic cyanobacteria and MC-LR occurrence in 20 irrigation ponds in the Jordan Valley area. The irrigation ponds studied were found in a hypereutrophic condition, with high levels of N:P ratio and low transparency. These cause inseparable effects such as cyanobacterial bloom and MC-LR occurrence. The investigated ponds were classified as hypereutrophic according to General Quality Index (GQI), with two different types of algae covering the surface. The first was the Lemna sp. or duckweeds (Family Araceae) which are free-floating masses, and the second was the cyanobacteria algal bloom. Unpaired t-tests were performed and showed that the concentrations of MC-LR in pond water abundant with cyanobacteria algal bloom in September 2021 were significantly higher (P = 0.7906) than in June for the same year (0.3022 ± 0.0444 and 0.1048 ± 0.0171 ppb, respectively). Two methods for extracting MC-LR were used and showed a significant difference in MC-LR concentration in ponds with an abundance of cyanobacteria algal blooms (0.2273 ± 0.0356 ppb) compared to the ponds with an abundance of Lemna sp. or duckweeds collected in June 2021 (0.1048 ± 0.0171 ppb). Despite all of the efforts made by Jordan Valley farmers to prevent or limit the mass growth of cyanobacteria and its consequences for the eutrophication process in their irrigation ponds through the use of fish breading and chemicals such as copper sulfate, this environmental problem is still harming their crops and irrigation methods and requires immediate government assistance.

Opis:
The use of treated wastewater for irrigation purposes will be an essential component for sustainable water resources management, especially in the water-stressed countries as in Jordan. In this context, an attempt has been made to determine the suitability of effluent quality of selected wastewater treatment plants in Jordan for the irrigation purposes based on weighted arithmetic water quality index (WQI) approach, according to the Jordanian standards for reclaimed domestic wastewater. The effluent wastewater quality records from 22 wastewater treatment plants within a one-year-monitoring period from March 2015 to February 2016 were used. Fifteen physical, chemical, and microbiological parameters were selected to calculate WQI. According to the WQI scale classification, most of the selected wastewater treatment plants were not in full compliance with the Jordanian standards for the reclaimed domestic wastewater regarding the direct reuse of treated wastewater for the irrigation purposes. Therefore, for category A (i.e., vegetables that are normally eaten cooked, parking areas, sides of roads inside cities, and playgrounds), one plant is classified in the 'Excellent water' class and six plants as a "Good water" class. For category B (i.e., irrigation of fruit trees, green areas, and sides of roads outside the cities), one plant is classified in the 'Excellent water' class and twelve plants as a "Good water" class. For category C (i.e., irrigation of industrial crops, field crops, and forest trees), one plant is classified in the 'Excellent water' class and fifteen plants as a "Good water" class. The effective weight calculations identified that E. coli is considered the most effective parameter in the WQI values in category A, and to a lesser extent, SAR, pH, BOD, and NO3. For category B, the SAR, pH and E. coli parameters are considered the most effective parameters in the WQI values. In turn, for category C, the SAR, pH, and PO4–3 parameters are considered the most effective parameters in the WQI values. Thus, these parameters based on category are considered as the main parameters which degrade the effluent wastewater quality for irrigation purposes. The results of this study are beneficial for the water managers and policymakers for proper actions on water resources and agricultural management in Jordan.

Opis:
Najliczniejsza grupa, do której należały następujące gatunki: Agropyron repens, Rumex crispus, Taraxacum officinale, Artemisia vulgaris, Trifolium repens, wyraźnie zwiększyła swoją obsadę pod wpływem stosowania nawadniania.
In 2010-12 research related to irrigation of fallows was carried out. Fallows were spontaneously settled by plants which mainly consisted of goldenrods (Solidago sp.) - a species which can be successfully used in agro-energy. The objective of the conducted research was to verify if sewage systematically delivered to a fallow fundamentally differentiates the floristic composition and biomass of the dominant species - goldenrod. Two irrigation rates: 10mm and 20mm on the patches of 1m2 each were applied on the fawn soil formed by clay sand. The effects of irrigation with initially purified sewage were compared to the object without irrigation (control). In the vegetative season, from May to September, 21 irrigation rates of sewage in total were applied with 7 days intervals. The irrigation contributed to the increase of the goldenrod shoots number (plants) on the area unit. The rest of species covering the fallow changed. The biggest group with the following species: Agropyron repens, Rumex crispus, Taraxacum officinale, Artemisia vulgaris, Trifolium repens, significantly increased its plants number due to irrigation. However, the second group with such species as: Poa pratensis, Calamagrostis epigejos, Tanacetum vulgare, Achillea millefolium, decreased its plants number. For the irrigation doses of 10mm, the increase of the number of plants of species reacting positively to irrigation was lower than the decrease of plants which decreased its number of plants. The situation connected with doses of 20mm irrigation was different. Hence, the total number of plants irrigated with doses of 10mm diminished comparing to the control object, however, it increased on the patches irrigated with 20mm doses. The irrigation caused significant increase of the goldenrod biomass as a dominant species in relation to the biomass of other taxons.

The Henaya Irrigated Perimeter (HIP) is an agricultural area irrigated by treated wastewater (TWW) of Ain El Hout treatment plant. Various analyses have shown that i) this water has low concentration of heavy metals and toxic elements, ii) the average values of the physicochemical parameters for 136 samples are satisfactory (29.2 mg O2∙dm–3 for chemical oxygen demands – COD, 13.14 mg O2∙dm–3 for biological oxygen demands – BOD, 14.2 mg∙dm–3 of suspended matter – SM, 1.82 mg∙dm–3 of N-NO3, 7.7 for pH and 927.74 μS∙cm–1 for electric conductivity – EC). Thirdly, it contains a high number of bacteria and nematodes (7200 CFU∙(100 dm3)–1 for faecal coliforms and 30 eggs∙dm–3 for intestinal Nematodes) which makes it dangerous for groundwater contamination. The objective in this work is to characterize the TWW and evaluate the impact of it use for irrigation on the quality of Hennaya groundwater. Before this, one has to prove that there is an amount of TWW that feeds the water table to show that there is a risk of pollution. We then estimated the aquifer minimum recharge value by TWW using the Thormthwaite method. The estimation has given 92 mm which is an important quantity. The results of the groundwater microbiological analyses reveal no sign of contamination. The cause is the efficiency of the degradation of pollutants of the Vadose zone. The soil purifying power Md of the HIP was evaluated by the Rehse method and gave values ranging from 2.1 to 12.7 which indicated a complete purification.
Obszar nawodnień Hennaya to grunty rolnicze nawadniane oczyszczonymi ściekami z oczyszczalni Ain El Hout.

Opis:
The possibilities of treated wastewater (TWW) reuse for irrigation purposes in the Northern Jordan Valley have been described. As shown by the analysis of the data, the results indicate a wide non-compliance with the Jordanian Standard 983/2006. Most problematic parameters are BOD, COD, nitrogen content, TSS. TWW will be blended with fresh water prior to use in agriculture. The blended water quality was reviewed after mixing of fresh water with the existing TWW without plant improvements. In general if there are no WWTP upgrades, the blended water quality satisfies the requirements of the Jordanian Water Quality Guidelines.

Opis:
Sludge water, a product of drainage of primary and activated sludge from the municipal wastewater treatment process, is rich in nutrients, particularly nitrogen and phosphorus. Nitrogen and phosphorus are inorganic biogenic substances suitable for plant nutrition. Sludge water can be treated via electrodialysis. This process leads to two products, one is a diluate stream (solution less concentrated than the input, contains some nutrients) and the other is concentrate stream (solution in which nutrients are concentrated against the input). There is abundant research in nitrogen and phosphorus recovery from the concentrate stream, for example in the form of struvite used for fertilizing. However, little attention has been paid to the huge volumes of diluate stream. The diluate stream can be used in agriculture as water suitable for irrigation, where the bonus of this product is a partial fertilizing capacity. This way, wastewater can be used for irrigation and fertilizing having subjected the wastewater to agrochemical analyses. An important condition for the use of sludge water or diluate stream for irrigation is the absence of heavy metals and toxic substances. Still, if the water contains heavy metals, they can be removed with a relatively high success, for example by precipitation. Using wastewaster as water for agricultural purposes for irrigation is one of the new options to find new secondary sources of water. This theme is highly topical as it is important to reduce the consumption of quality water resources. These must primarily serve for drinking purposes, and therefore it is necessary to search for alternative water resources.
Proces ten prowadzi do powstania dwóch produktów, jeden to strumień rozcieńczony (roztwór mniej skoncentrowany niż wsad, zawiera pewne składniki odżywcze), a drugi to strumień skoncentrowany (roztwór, w którym składniki odżywcze są skoncentrowane). W ten sposób ścieki można wykorzystać do nawadniania i nawożenia, poddając ścieki analizom agrochemicznym.
