Opis:
The communist regime after 1947 tried to divide the Lutheran community in Warmia and Mazury. This was to be achieved by arousing suspicion that the members of that Church were spies on behalf of various Western countries, especially the Scandinavian ones, as the Lutheran Church in Poland maintained vivid contacts with them. At the same time the Lutheran community was seen as pro-German and the clergy were accused of collaboration with the Germans in the times of World War II. They were blamed for the failure of the forced polonisation of the German population, which decided to stay in Poland after the war. In effect two Lutheran priests and several laymen were arrested. The authorities failed to prove the accusations of espionage and the priests and laymen were not sentenced, but they were not fully acquitted before 1957.

W artykule zaprezentowano ponad 100 nazw właścicieli gospodarstw rolnych i ich pracowników w gwarach Warmii i Mazur. Na tle historycznym, uwzględniającym historię osadnictwa i kolejne reformy agrarne ukazano zebrane słownictwo w podziale na 6 kategorii – od bogatych właścicieli ziemskich po najuboższych, pozbawionych ziemi i własnego domu robotników folwarcznych. Podstawę materiałową stanowiły zapisy z badań gwarowych przeprowadzonych na Warmii i Mazurach w połowie XX w. oraz wybrane artykuły, wspomnienia i monografie.
The article presents over 100 names of farm owners and their employees in the dialects of Warmia and Mazury. The vocabulary is presented in 6 categories: from rich landowners to the poorest farm workers deprived of land and their own house, against a historical background and taking into account the history of settlement and the subsequent agrarian reforms. The material consists of records from dialectal research carried out in Warmia and Mazury in the mid-20th century as well as selected articles, memoirs and monographs.

W niniejszym artykule zadajemy sobie trud uporządkowania faktów i oddzielenia ich od mitów odnoszących się do mniej lub bardziej różnorodnych, aczkolwiek w swej podstawie wciąż jednolitych, form terapii mieszczących się w kategorii „silvoterapia”. Mamy tym samym nadzieję, iż wpłynie to chociaż w niewielkim stopniu na upowszechnienie wiedzy i tym samym na przychylne nastawienie opinii społecznej. Zawarliśmy też listę „zaleceń dobrej praktyki”, której wypełnianie ma służyć maksymalizacji wykorzystania rodzimych drzewostanów przez środowiska zainteresowane prowadzeniem silvoterapii.
In this article we try to put in order the facts and separate them from the myths related to more or less varied forms of therapy situated within the category of ‘silvotherapy’. We also try to estimate the possibilities of applying the silvotherapy under the Warmia-Mazury regional conditions, associating it with the objectives of national and international tourism. After all, in the context of conducting the silvotherapy, we positively assess the usefulness of forest stands in the region and propose a list of ‘principles of good practice’, which is designed to maximize the use of native forest stands by local groups interested in ‘silvotherapy’.

The article analyses the speech of the Ukrainian community in Warmia and Mazury after 65 years of its existence in an alien linguistic milieu, which additionally has not been conducive to its religious, political and cultural life. It was the aim of the author to determine the present state of Ukrainian dialects in the constantly growing linguistic pluralism which leads to linguistic assimilation. The research material was collected in the group of respondents who were interviewed by the author. The author limited the range of conversation topics to vocabulary connected with cultivating customs and traditions of different festivals as well as rituals connected with wedding, baptism and funeral. The performed analysis shows that the processes of assimilation threaten both city dwellers as well as villagers. Still, in villages these processes are less visible and even postponed by one generation.

In the article, I discussed the problem of shaping cultural identity through the educational activities of a local kindergarten from the area of Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. I presented the forms of use of the warlord and Mazurian bustes in preschool work. The content of the work is the result of the analysis of the statutes, the concept of work and the annual work plans of preschool from Warmia and Mazury for the years 2012–2017. In the studies, I used a qualitative strategy, a method of collecting data in the form of a searchable secondary source. I have analysed materials from 100 local government offices, which have accrued during their activities in the years 2012–2017. The sources come primarily from the Olsztyn district and partly from Mrągów and Giżycki. The educational activities carried out by the warlord and Mazurian bustly lead to the shaping of cultural identity among preschoolers through territorial, historical and cultural roots.
W artykule poruszyłam problem kształtowania tożsamości kulturowej poprzez działania edukacyjne przedszkoli samorządowych z terenu województwa warmińsko-mazurskiego. Przedstawiłam formy wykorzystania gwary warmińskiej i mazurskiej w pracy przedszkoli. Treści zamieszczone w pracy są wynikiem analizy statutów, koncepcji pracy oraz rocznych planów pracy przedszkoli z Warmii i Mazur za lata 2012–2017. W badaniach posłużyłam się strategią jakościową, metodą zbierania danych w postaci przeszukiwania źródeł wtórnych. Dokonałam analizy materiałów pochodzących ze 100 placówek samorządowych, narosłych w toku ich działalności w latach 2012–2017. Źródła pochodzą przede wszystkim z powiatu olsztyńskiego oraz częściowo z mrągowskiego i giżyckiego. Działania edukacyjne prowadzone przy wykorzystaniu gwary warmińskiej i mazurskiej prowadzą do kształtowania tożsamości kulturowej wśród przedszkolaków poprzez zakorzenienie terytorialne, historyczne i kulturowe.

The relations between the prosecutors in Olsztyn’s Court of Appeal to information deriving from the public administration, are an interesting source for understanding socio-economic and political development in the first years after the War in Warmia and Mazury. This article presents the activities of the militia from Olsztyn province and several counties belonging to the province of Białystok. The opinion of the prosecutors of Olsztyn’s Court of Appeal concerning the attitudes of officers, their morale, level of education and training for service are presented. Alongside the opinions of the prosecutors concerning the functionaries, especially from the investigate division, the outlook of judges regarding the activities of the militiamen and their mistakes is presented.

W artykule przedstawiono proces niszczenia wsi na Warmii i Mazurach po II wojnie światowej w wyniku rabunków i dewastacji dokonywanych przez wojska sowieckie. Na podstawie analizy akt polskiej administracji cywilnej, a także Wojewódzkiego Urzędu Bezpieczeństwa Publicznego opisano działania wojsk sowieckich prowadzące do znaczącego uszczuplenia majątku rolnego Warmii i Mazur, co w poważnym stopniu utrudniło powojenne osadnictwo, odbudowę i zagospodarowanie tych obszarów, na których rolnictwo było podstawową gałęzią gospodarczą.
This article presents the process of destruction of villages in Warmia and Mazury after World War II, plundered and devastated by Soviet troops. Basing on a thorough analysis of the Polish civil administration and the Provincial Office of Public Security files, the author describes the plunders of Soviet soldiers that contributed to a significant depletion of the agricultural property of Warmia and Mazury. This seriously hampered the post-war settlement, reconstruction and development of these areas, where agriculture was the primary economic branch.

Centralny Ośrodek Dokumentacji Geodezyjnej i Kartograficznej (CODGiK) udostępnia dane z Państwowego Rejestru Nazw Geograficznych (PRNG). Rejestr jest ciągle aktualizowany, na dzień 18 stycznia 2016 roku zawierał 396 236 nazw opisujących obiekty na terenie całego kraju, z tego 19 589 nazw dotyczyło terenów województwa warmińsko-mazurskiego. W bazie danych (Rozporządzenie, 2012), nazwy są sklasyfikowane na klasy tematyczne, a w klasach wyróżniono rodzaje, statusy. Każda nazwa ma przypisane współrzędne lokalizujące je w przestrzeni w państwowym układzie współrzędnych 1992. Celem opracowania była ocena walorów geograficznych województwa warmińsko-mazurskiego na podstawie danych PRNG. Przyjęto założenie, że analiza danych rejestru pozwoli na obszarze badanego województwa, znanego powszechnie jako kraina tysiąca jezior, wyróżnić inne cenne walory geograficzne. Badania wykonano wykorzystując opracowanie statystyczne zbiorów rejestru. W formie tabelarycznej opisano parametry podzbiorów bazy oraz wykonano prezentacje geostatystyczne obrazujące gęstość występowania wybranych obiektów w przyjętych podzbiorach tematycznych. Wyniki, obok wyróżnienia województwa warmińsko mazurskiego jako regionu o dużej liczbie akwenów wodnych, wskazują na inne mniej znane walory, pokazując ich przybliżoną lokalizację.
The Geodetic and Cartographic Documentation Centre (CODGiK) provides data from the State Register of Geographical Names (PRNG). This register is constantly updated. On January 18, 2016 it contained 396 236 names that describe the objects located in the entire country, including 19 589 names which concerned objects located in Warmia and Mazury. In the PRNG the names are classified into thematic classes; each class contains types and statuses of objects. Each name have coordinates assigned to it which locate it in space in the PUWG 1992 coordinate system. The aim of the study was to evaluate the geographical potential of Warmia and Mazury using the PRNG data. The analysed area is commonly known as the land of a thousand lakes. It was assumed that the analysis of data from the register will allow to define other valuable geographical features. The study was performed based on statistical analyses of the data. Results were presented in the tabular form; they describe the parameters of subsets of the database. Geostatistical presentations were also developed which present the distribution density of selected objects in the adopted thematic subsets. Apart from presentation the Warmia and Mazury Province as area of the high number of water reservoirs, the results of works point to other, less known values and to their locations.

It was the aim of the study to register and analyze manuscripts and prints written in the Cyrillic which have been collected in Warmia and Mazury. The article describes written monuments from the collections of libraries in Olsztyn: the library in Warmia and Mazury Seminary Hosianum (parchment leaves from the 14th century), University of Warmia and Mazury Library (manuscript Swiatcy from 1848), and Museum of Warmia and Mazury Library (two copies of the Lvov publication of the Ałtar Gospel Book from 1897), as well as the municipal and regional libraries (Monthły Menaion for October printed in Moscow in 1750) and a private collection (the Altar Gospel Book from 1815 printed in Poczajów. A volume of Służebnik (Wilno-Supraśl, 1692-1695) is in the possession of a Greek-Catholic parishioner from Giżycko. Additionally, volumes from the Old Believers’ monastery and Orthodox church in Wojnowo were described. Courtesy of their owners, the study is based also on manuscripts and prints which belong to the Old Believers from Ukta, Wojnowo, Ruciane-Nida and Piaski. The guardian of the Old Believers Monastery of Saviour and Holy Trinity allowed the author to photograph and describe the manuscripts and prints which have not been so far academically analysed. They are now stored in the Digital Library of the University of Warmia and Mazury thanks to a project financed by the National Science Centre. The described volumes, mainly liturgical in their character, served the needs of Christians in the east: Orthodox Christians, Old Believers and Greek-Catholics.

Większość Polaków ocenia przekształcenia własnościowe niekorzystnie, zaś za beneficjentów prywatyzacji uważa „cwaniaków” i „kombinatorów”, kapitał zagraniczny i urzędników państwowych prywatyzujących gospodarkę. Celem artykułu jest próba dokonania analizy procesów prywatyzacyjnych drogownictwa w latach 90-tych na terenie województwa olsztyńskiego – obecnie warmińsko-mazurskiego. Inspirację stanowił fakt ukazania się na rynku wydawniczym pozycji książkowej, dotyczącej tych zagadnień. Autor tego artykułu uważa się za aktywnego uczestnika tych procesów i ma osobiste doświadczenia w tym zakresie.
On the topics of privatization as well as road construction the Polish citizen deem themselves experts. The Polish population in general assess the property transformation as generally “unfavorable”, the beneficiaries of the privatization however are seen as “con-men” and “tricksters”, likewise foreign capital and civil servants executing the privatization of the economy are suspected to be the big profiteers. The main issue of this paper is a thorough analysis of the privatization process in the road construction sector implemented during the 1990s in the formerly Olsztynian, presently Warmian and Mazurian voivodship. Inspiration for this paper was the imminent release of a publication on this topic on the book market. The author of this article considers himself an active participant of these proceedings and gained relevant experience in said field.

The 20th century has fundamentally changed the Warmian and Mazurian urban landscape. Only within the space of one hundred years, this territory has been twice suffered the war damage. The first time, in 1914 – during the Russian army offensive 35 East Prussian towns were destroyed, next time, during the winter and spring of 1945 – as the results of the Soviet army activities and post‐war economy, most of Warmian and Mazurian historical urban complexes suffered huge losses again. In both cases, the post‐war rebuilding was conducted on a great scale and with significant urban landscape results. The last strong note appearing at the turn of the 21st century were some investment activities which were taken just as in violent and significant way without any rules in protecting the public view and spatial or architectural value. The result of such activities was the erasing of the historical town nature and the demotion of its value. Szczytno is one of the small town centers situated on the territory of the Southern Mazuria (the seat of the county, the area – 9,96 km2, the population – 25 759). At the turn of the 20th century, this rapidly developing town, destroyed and rebuilt twice during the 20th century, violently changed its view on the eve of the 21st century. It is a kind of classical example of the changes and processes to which Warmian and Mazurian urban complexes were and still are subjected. These processes are still accompanied by the same problems and questions – how to adjust modern civilization standards and requires to the tradition and past value. With such problems it must has been wrestled during the both of the past‐war town’s rebuilding. The first rebuilding was accompanied with the efforts in referring to the local, building tradition, whereas the next one was quite opposite to the past cultural patterns. In both cases also modernity and landscape modernization were the distinctive background. The analysis of these processes, their ideological, economic and organizing frames is a kind of attempt to answer the general question – how to manage the town’s landscape.

Prezentowany w niniejszym artykule materiał stanowi niewielki fragment empirycznych badań własnych autora, przeprowadzonych na przełomie lat 2009/2010 na terenie Warmii i Mazur wśród 343 właścicieli mikro i małych przedsiębiorstw prywatnych. Techniką wiodącą był wywiad kwestionariuszowy. Za wskaźniki do uwydatnionego w tytule problemu badawczego posłużyły odpowiedzi respondentów rozstrzygających dylematy: czy tworzyć firmę z osobami z kręgu rodziny, czy też spoza niej i czy zatrudniać w firmie wyłącznie krewnych, czy też wyłącznie innych pracowników niż członkowie rodziny i krewni. Odpowiedzi odpowiednio agregowano i szukano ich związku z parametrami firm prowadzonych przez udzielających odpowiedzi. Okazało się, że tak mierzoną „rodzinność” w badanej populacji determinują parametry firm, np. wyniki finansowe.
This paper presents only a small fragment of own study. The study (completed in 2009/2010) used the technique of individual questionnaire survey, which provided information from 343 owners of businesses operating in the Warmia and Mazury region that in statistical terms are described as private micro and small firms. The evaluation of gathered information has used the percentage distribution of answers to given questions, such as: Is it better to open the business with family members or not? Is it better to hire only family members or not? The results indicate that owners’ preference to level of family influence on business depends on firm attributes, e.g. financial results.
