Opis:
The diversity and multiplicity of information associated with investment in the stock market can cause problems with the proper understanding of the analyzed phenomena. In particular it refers to small investors who invest directly in stocks. Therefore, evaluating the financial condition of listed companies is very important, hence the need to use methods that will simplify and thus make stock market analysis easier. This paper presents an attempt to apply the selected financial ratios for the classification of 17 real estate companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange into groups characterized by a similar economic condition. In the study multidimensional comparative analysis was used, i.e. Ward’s method and the method of k-means. The analysis was carried out in the period 2010-2012. In the experiment it was proved that using Ward’s method could identify companies with the weakest condition.

Opis:
In conditions of increased competition, development of biotechnology and the ever growing demands of the consumers, innovations are becoming an important factor of competitiveness in the food industry. The aim of the conducted research was to evaluate the barriers of innovativeness in the food industry based on chosen European Union countries during 2014-2016. Based on research of CIS-2016 carried out in accordance with the Oslo methodology developed by OECD, the barriers of innovativeness within the food industry enterprises which were active and non-active were analyzed. As for the evaluation of the analyzed factors within the countries of the EU, descriptive statistics and Ward’s method, which is an agglomeration form of grouping method, were used. From the conducted research, it followed, that the representations of innovative active enterprises more often reported on the barriers which were impeding the introduction of innovations. The most common which were reported included big competition, lack of internal funding and high costs. Representatives of inactive innovative enterprises were reporting low demand on the market, lack of internal funding and high costs.

The goal of the paper is to examine the differences and similarities between Polish voivodships in the field the development of the COVID-19 epidemic in the period from March 4 to May 31, 2020. Healthcare financing in 2018 was taken into account. Two approaches were used to study the development of the epidemic. Results indicate similarities between voivodships. For analysis based on the values of variables describing the epidemic development on each day of the studied period, the number of deaths per 10 thousand people turned out to be important for the final classification. In the alternative approach, dynamics was taken into account. The number of cases per 10 thousand people was a decisive factor in the classification. The similarities of groupings in terms of financing and the course of the epidemic are not large, the relatively smallest differences occur in the case of the classification taking into account deaths.

Opis:
The purpose of this study is the statistical analysis of results of the online survey in order to make market segmentation of Facebook users. Non-random sampling methods were used: convenience sampling and snowball sampling method. Because the sample was not representative, it did not give rise to statistical inferences about the population of Facebook users. The survey results were only part of the initial diagnosis, a description of the existing state of affairs. On the basis of selected market segmentation criteria and using the generalized k-means clustering algorithm and the Ward agglomeration method three clusters were formed: “Informed over-cautious persons” (56,31% of the sample), “Committed risktakers” (20,39% of the sample) and “Persistent assertive people” (23,30% of the sample). Segments were profiled on the basis of psychographic and behavioral criteria. The statistical significance of the relationship between clusters of Internet users and individual variables was confirmed by the chi-square test.

Opis:
Research background: Quality of life is viewed as the degree of people's satisfaction of various needs, especially including material, spiritual, safety-related needs and life aspirations. The aspects taken into consideration are economic, spatial, environmental and cultural ones. Quality of life is therefore determined by various conditions in which a human lives and the source of which is the hierarchy of needs and a value system. At the same time, quality of life can be viewed in terms of collectivity (objective aspect) and an individual's evaluation (subjective aspect). The former view shapes the existing living conditions and the latter results from the satisfaction from a specific person's life, experiences and ambitions. The multidimensionality of the quality of life categories translates into difficulties in defining and measuring it, and constitutes an interesting research object. Purpose of the article: The purpose of the article is to diagnose and evaluate the variety of the quality of life in Polish voivodeships, in objective terms by building a synthetic measure allowing for estimating inequalities in the quality of life of regional communities. It was assumed that quality of life will be characterised by indicators grouped into the following areas: material living conditions, economic activity, health, education and living environment quality. Methods: The main method used for measuring quality of life is the linear ordering based on Z. Hellwig's taxonomic measure which allows for organising voivodeships in terms of the quality of life of communities. Additionally, the cluster analysis (Ward's agglomerative grouping method) was used, which allowed for distinguishing voivodeships similar in terms of the analysed phenomenon. Findings & Value added: During the realisation of the research goal, special attention was paid to the complexity of the quality of life issue and its measurement in terms of economy and rather important varieties in voivodeships were emphasized. The conducted analysis allowed for distinguishing groups of regions with the highest, high, low and the lowest quality of life.

Opis:
Research background: In the era of demographic changes and the need for rationalization of public expenditure, the European Union social policy promotes the activation approach. In addition, a growing importance of increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of public entities can be noticed. These phenomena are visible in the implementation of the labour market policy. However, the EU countries represent a different approach to spending public funds on issues related to the implementation of  labour market policy. Purpose of the article: The authors are presenting the main theoretical assumptions concerning effectiveness and efficiency of labour market policy. Moreover, in the paper the EU countries are classified in clusters according to their level of expenditure on different categories of LMP. A comparison of the situation over ten years - in 2004 and 2014 - has also been conducted. In 2004, ten new members entered the EU, and the year 2014 presents the most current data in the analyzed area. Methods: As a research method cluster analysis was applied. Cross-country labour market situation throughout the EU is presented by the analysis of the Eurostat data. The countries are grouped in clusters following Ward's and k-means methods. Findings & Value added: There is a need to work out a complex evaluation of labour market policies in the EU to provide comparative analysis of the EU countries (or groups of countries). It would allow to determine the level of development of the country in terms of the efficiency of labour market policies. The EU countries with the best labour market indicators represent diverse levels of LMP expenditure.

Opis:
Research background: Social and economic development involves a broad spectrum of social, economic and spatial phenomena. The multi-faceted nature of regional development arises directly from the fact that it is shaped by multiple factors. Current discourse emphasises the role of endogenous factors, which indicate the specific nature and the distinctive features of the given territory. Mobilising the endogenous potential ensures stable regional development dynamics. At the moment, one of the fundamental economic problems are the increasing differences in the development of specific regions. Purpose of the article: The purpose of this study is to assess the differentiation of the social and economic level development of Polish Voivodeships, applying the selected assessment methods for the years 2010 and 2015, draw up a rank list of regional units according to their development levels, and identify the groups of Voivodeships sharing similar development levels. The indicators used in this study, characterising the level of the social and economic development, have been systematised according to the following areas: demographics and labour market, regional entrepreneurship, local economy structure, innovation and research & development activities, technical infrastructure, social infrastructure, and the condition and protection of the natural environment. Methods: The level of the social and economic development of Polish Voivodeships was assessed using Zdzisław Hellwig's development pattern method, which made it possible to rank them according to the level of development of Polish Voivodeship. The methodology is supplemented by Ward's agglomerative clustering method, which made it possible to distinguish other Voivodeships according to the analysed phenomenon. The Voivodeship clustering method used Jenks' natural breaks classification method. Findings & Value added: Pursuing the research aims, the authors focused in particular on clear spatial differences. Through the analysis we were able to identify the changes in the social and economic development processes of the Polish regions. The Voivodeships were divided into groups according to their development level: the highest, high, low and the lowest.

Delimitację wykonano w oparciu o strukturę produkcji, wielkość ekonomiczną, powierzchnię użytków rolnych, wartość produkcji i dochodów z go-spodarstwa rolnego.
The aim of the article was an attempt at delimitation of countries in the EU-27 with similar structure and scale of the production of farms. In this study, the emphasis is placed on high-lighting the similarity of production structures typical of the climate’s areas of the EU-27 in the year 2008, and also on indicating the class in which the Polish agriculture were classified. For this research, the data from FADN database was used. This database contains weighted averages per individual farm in every of 27 UE member countries in 2008. The delimitation were made based on the structure of production, economic size, agricultural utilized area, production and income of agricultural farm. The research was conducted using the agglomera-tion hierarchic classification based on the Ward’s method. The structure of production is rep-resented by 23 characteristics; the remaining characters are represented by single variables. The optimal number of classes of countries of similar structure and scale of production was estimated on the basis of the analysis of the amount of the intra-class variance’s increment. 10 classes of countries were obtained. These classes were described by the measure of the aver-age differences for analyzed characters.

Opis:
Since 2004, 11 post-communist countries joined the EU. It has helped to strengthen their international competitiveness. This was linked to the implementation of institutional and economic reforms, significant technological changes and improvements in the quality of human capital, as well as fiscal stabilisation policies. These changes affected their situation in the labour market. Purpose of the article: The aim of the study is to assess changes in the situation in the labour market in the EU with particular emphasis on the post-communist countries in the period 2002? 2019. Methods: The situation of countries in the European labour market was estimated using the TOPSIS method. A similarity matrix of changes in the composite variable for each country was then constructed using the Dynamic Time Warping method. On its basis, homogeneous clusters of countries were determined using the Ward's method. Findings & value added: Four homogenous clusters of countries were formed. The post-communist ones belonged to two groups. In one, there were two countries ? Croatia and Slovakia. The rest of the post-communist countries were in a large cluster, which also included Germany, Malta, Finland, Portugal, France and Belgium. Changes of the situation in the post-communist countries in this group improved very much during the analysed period (this was particularly evident for Czechia, Estonia and Poland). It is interesting to investigate whether the reaction of labour markets to changes in the global economic situation in post-communist countries is similar to that in the old EU countries. The similarity of changes can be measured using the DTW method. There is an empirical research gap in this respect. Therefore, the added value is the use of this method in assessing similarities of changes in the labour market situation in post-communist countries in comparison to the Western European ones.
