    Opis:
    The paper addresses the role which national attitudes play in terrorist threat perception and in the choice of specific counterterrorism strategies. Study 1 shows that participants higher on nationalism tend to perceive the threat of terrorism as more serious than participants lower on nationalism. Moreover, we found that nationalism mediated the relationship between the perceived terrorist threat and the support for tough domestic policies, even at the expense of considerable limitation of civil liberties. Study 2 confirms the link between the perceived terrorism threat and the support for suspension of civil liberties. Nevertheless, when terrorism was seen in terms of crime rather than in terms of war, the mediating role of nationalism disappeared. The results contribute to a better understanding of the process whereby the perception of one’s own national group and the perception of one’s own nation-state translate into specific reactions triggered by external threats.

    The article examines to what extend existing philosophy of law and especially natural law doctrine may be applied in the discourse on legitimization of a state fighting terrorism. Since the 9-11 attacks issues of extraordinary threats to public safety occur regularly in scientific discussions among ethics, sociologists, political scientists, security experts. This topic has also became visible in legal science, even in its most unworldly discipline which is philosophy of law. The article is intended to present general tendencies in legal discussions after 9-11 with special reference to aristotelic-tomistic tradition of understanding the notions of common good, the aim of a state and of law.

    W artykule zaprezentowano proces przemian społeczno-politycznych w Afganistanie związanych z interwencją wojskową ZSRR. Pierwsza część obejmuje okres od chwili powstania samodzielnego państwa w 1921 roku do momentu przejęcia władzy przez Hafizullaha Amina we wrześniu 1979 roku. W drugiej części przedstawiono wpływ interwencji radzieckiej na proces stopniowego rozkładu struktur społecznych. W części trzeciej omówiono skutki interwencji, których końcowym rezultatem było utworzenie Islamskiego Emiratu Afganistanu.
    The paper presents political and historical changes in Afghanistan related to the Soviet military intervention. The first part describes the period from the establishment of an independent statein 1921 to the seizing of power by Amin Hafizullah in September 1979. The second part deals with the influence of the Soviet aggression on the process of the gradual disintegration of social structures. The third part explains the effects of the intervention, the final result of which was the creation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

    This article is a combination of reporting and analysis, constituting a relatively innovative approach in the scientific literature. It combines a report on a science-topical conference with the author’s attempt to weigh up and analyse the 16 years (as of 2017 – Z.M.) of the “war on terror” in terms of security (both external and internal) and the Republic of Poland’s raison d’état with particular emphasis on what are termed “contemporary challenges and threats”, dynamically occurring in the so-called “broad security environment” (in the perspective of Central and Eastern Europevs. the EU and NATO) (see: Summary and Conclusions).     The article focuses on the public security measures introduced at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and during its course in three European Union countries - Poland, Austria and Germany. The restrictions are analyzed, with particular attention paid to the constitutional basis foundations of the measures carried out.

    The article presents reflections on the problem of communication in the war with the global terrorism. It shows shrewd politics of Islamic terrorists, who are pushing the West into a geopolitical trap with their actions. It consists in showing the war not as a fight against terroristic organisations, but as a clash of Islam civilization with the Western civilization, compatible with the classical concept of Samuel Huntington.

    Opis:
    The present article analyses Use phenomena of the Islamic State, since its coming into being until now. Undoubtedly, it makes, up a significant factor disturbing safety and order both in the regional and global scale. Moreover, the methods of operation of the Islamists and passive reaction of the West, which is limited to bombing and providing military aid, have been analysed. The key players in the conflict under question are the West countries, the special military forces thereof are operating in the territories occupied by the Islamists, whereas in the region of Syria, Turkey, Iraq and Iran, each of the concerned country, due to different, reasons, acts in an entanglement of circumstances being supported by the conflict. The Islamic State will not survive because it is embraced and fight off by all, none is going to recognize it as a state in accordance with the international law; nevertheless, it may by „transferred” to the grounds of the so called failed states. This in turn will cause successive waves of emigration, humanitarian disasters and return to Europe the volunteers originating from those continents. They can engage in terroristic and subversive activity being at the same time difficult to detect.

    W artykule przedstawiono analizy i oceny dotyczące przyczyn, źródeł, uwarunkowań oraz charakteru przyszłych wojen. Zostały one oparte o doświadczenia wynikające z działań zbrojnych, które miały miejsce pod koniec ubiegłego i na początku obecnego stulecia, a także poglądy współczesnych polemologów, politologów i specjalistów wojskowych. Zidentyfikowano zasadnicze rodzaje przyszłych wojen oraz dokonano ich charakterystyki ze względu na udział podmiotów, zasięg, intensywność, czas trwania i inne właściwości. Zaprezentowano także przewidywane następstwa wojen, wśród których szczególną uwagę zwrócono nie tylko na dezintegrację struktur oraz destabilizację ekonomiki i gospodarki państw, ale przede wszystkim na skutki społeczne, takie jak: straty fizyczne, ubóstwo, epidemie, niekontrolowane masowe migracje, demoralizację społeczeństw i elit politycznych oraz pogłębienie antagonizmów, postaw nacjonalistycznych czy innych wrogich stereotypów. Przedstawione treści mogą stanowić podstawę do określenia pożądanych kierunków działania podmiotów bezpieczeństwa, których celem jest zapobieganie sytuacjom kryzysowym, często rozwiązywanym za pomocą takiego narzędzia polityki, jakim jest wojna.
    The article presents the analyses and evaluations of the causes, sources, conditions and nature of future wars. They were based on the experience of the military action that took place at the end of the last century and the beginning of this century. Moreover, contemporary views expressed by polemologs, political scientists and military experts were taken into account. The article identifies the principal types of future wars and their characteristics as regards involvement, scope, intensity, duration and other properties. In addition, it presents the expected consequences of war, among which special attention was paid not only to the disintegration of the structures and the destabilization of the economy and state economies, but also to social consequences, such as physical damage, poverty, epidemics, uncontrolled mass migration, the demoralization of society and political elites, and the deepening antagonisms of nationalistic attitudes or other hostile stereotypes. The article can be the basis for determining the desirable directions of security subjects, aimed at crisis prevention, often solved with such a policy tool as war.
