    In dentistry nowadays, local anesthesia is the standard and the backbone for controlling pain Every year, researchers seek and develop new ways in which pain can be alleviated and managed better to ensure patient comfort by focusing on improving aspects such as anaesthetic agents, delivery devices and the techniques involved. The introduction of newer techniques assists dentists in providing enhanced pain relief with reduced pain from injection and fewer adverse reactions. Objective. The purpose of this overview is to highlight the mechanism and efficacy of certain anaesthetic agents, emphasizing complications associated with local anesthesia, as well as the modern techniques that have been developed to improve patient comfort and reduce pain while performing anaesthesia.

    Opis:
    The ivory wands of the Middle Kingdom display various creatures to be annihilated by protective deities, especially snakes and human foes. It seems that the snakes pictured on the ivory wands represent chaotic numina of primeval times which endanger the uncreated and the animate world. The human foes on the other side are foreigners like Libyans, Asians, Nubians and rebels. It is interesting to note that the figures of the human foes are modelled after an archetype which is taken from the royal monuments showing the king smiting his enemies. While the foes represented on the royal monuments are put down by the king in the shape of a divine bull, lion, sphinx or griffin, the enemies of the ivory wands are smitten by divine forces, among them the hippopotamus-goddess, the lion, and a cat-goddess. The investigation concerns the religious background of the massacre, which is done by the divine forces on snakes and human foes. It is proposed to identify the fighting animals as protective deities originating in art from stellar constellations or decans protecting the mother and her child at the beginning of lifetime.

    Antypedagogika to rewolucyjne podejście do wychowania dzieci, w którym traktowane są one jak dorośli. Tak samo jak oni ponoszą konsekwencje własnych czynów i doświadczają autoodpowiedzialności. Przeciwieństwem antypedagogiki jest „czarna pedagogika”, która okazuje się być kontrowersyjnym nurtem badań, ponieważ zakłada, iż dzieci powinny być uległe wobec dorosłych. Heinrich Hoffmann w zbiorze wierszy dla dzieci zatytułowanym Złota różdżka, wydanym w 1845 roku, ukazał zasady jej działania. Bohaterami tych przerażających opowieści są dzieci, które spotkała surowa kara za „występki”. Dla współczesnego pedagoga niedopuszczalnym jest stosowanie kar za zachowania, które są typowe dla młodego człowieka. Pedagog, będąc mentorem, powinien wskazać właściwą drogę rozmową, zamiast karać. Summary
    Anti-pedagogy is a revolutionary approach to bringing up children, in which they are treated like adults. Just like them, they bear the consequences of their own deeds and experience self-responsibility. The opposite of anti-pedagogy is „black pedagogy”, which turns out to be a controversial current of research, because it assumes that children should be submissive to adults. Heinrich Hoffmann in a collection of poems for children entitled The Golden Wand published in 1845 showed the rules of its operation. The protagonists of these terrifying stories are children who were severely punished for „misdeeds”. It is unacceptable for a contemporary pedagogue to apply penalties for behaviours that are typical of a young man. A pedagogue, being a mentor, should show the right way through conversation, instead of punishing.

    Der grundlegende Sammelband Robinsons Tiere (hrsg. von Roland Borgards, Marc Klesse und Alexander Kling) hat jüngst die Mensch-Tier-Interaktion in der Literaturgattung der Robinsonade näher beleuchtet. Der Fokus des Bandes liegt dabei auf der ethischen und politischen Dimension des speziesübergreifenden Umgangs miteinander. Welche didaktischen Effekte die Interaktion mit lebenden oder toten Tieren für die Protagonisten der untersuchten Robinsonaden hat, gerät dagegen kaum in den Blick. Dieser Frage widmet sich der vorliegende Aufsatz, der sich mit Daniel Defoes Prototyp und den Robinsonaden von Joachim Heinrich Campe, von Johann David und Johann Rudolf Wyss, von Marlen Haushofer sowie Yann Martel befasst.
    Recently, the groundbreaking conference volume on Robinson’s animals (Robinsons Tiere, ed. Borgards, Klesse, Kling) has paid thorough attention to human-animal interaction in the Robinsonade genre. However, focussing on the ethical and political dimension of this species-transcending relationship, the contributions of this volume have paid but little attention to its didactical dimension, i.e. to the educational power, which the interaction with living or dead animals exerts on the respective Robinson character(s). The paper at hand offers a detailed study of these pedagogical effects, taking into account Defoe’s prototype as well as the Enlightenment-era German children’s book Robinson der Jüngere by Joachim Heinrich Campe, the monumental Swiss educational novel Der Schweizerische Robinson (known in Anglophone cultures as The Swiss Family Robinson) by Johann David and Johann Rudolf Wyss, the female Robinsonade Die Wand by the Austrian writer Marlen Haushofer and Life of Pi by the Canadian Yann Martel. In the texts from the 18th and 19th centuries, interacting with animals prepares the protagonists for a future leading position among their fellow men, while in the more recent Robinsonades by Haushofer and Martel the same process includes painful lessons, causing narcissistic wounds of one kind or another.
