    Opis:
    This article shows changes in visual narratives of disasters related to the element of water, with narratives from the 1990s (documentary series) serving as a starting point. The basic context of the unfolding analysis comes in the form of global problems, primarily environmental ones, brought about by the Anthropocene epoch. Firstly, the context associated with mass media is presented. After that the article moves on to discussing environmental concerns as a megatrend in contemporary culture and theoretical concepts that are critical to our understanding of changes in the media attitude to and media discourse on disasters. Next, the rhetoric of media narratives of the water element is analysed along with changes in documentary narratives presented by the new media. Finally, new challenges are pointed out that come with the Anthropocene epoch.

    Prezentowany artykuł stanowi analizę materiałów wizualnych – fotografii, w poszukiwaniu odpowiedzi na pytanie badawcze: w jaki sposób matki przedstawiają swoje macierzyństwo? Prezentowane treści są pokłosiem projektu badawczego, realizowanego w 2012 roku pod kierownictwem dr Martyny Pryszmont-Ciesielskiej: Współczesne oblicza macierzyństwa w perspektywie edukacji nieformalnej, który wyrażał się w narracyjno- wizualnej interpretacji mikroświatów matek uczestniczących w badaniu. Do celów interpretacyjnych wykorzystano strategię badawczą z wykorzystaniem fotografii jako materiałów zastanych w ujęciu Krzysztofa Koneckiego. Materiał badawczy stanowiły zdjęcia przekazane do badań przez dwie kobiety: Karolinę (28 zdjęć) oraz Agnieszkę (73 zdjęcia). Ponadto każda z kobiet wskazała jedno zdjęcie, które, jej zdaniem, stanowiło najlepszą ilustrację bycia matką, a także samodzielnie zdefiniowała słownie swoje macierzyństwo. W trakcie badań zwracano uwagę nie tylko na przekaz, jaki niosą w sobie fotografie, ale również na spójność przekazu, jaki niosły ze sobą materiały wizualne i werbalne. W wyniku przeprowadzonej analizy opisano mikroświaty macierzyństwa dwóch badanych kobiet, z których pierwszy (Karoliny) określono jako afirmację życia przejawiającą się w aktywności i radości, natomiast drugi (Agnieszki) jako troskę o dzieci połączoną z podszytą lękiem nostalgią. W ramach wniosków z przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono, iż (1) fotografia jest bardzo dobrym materiałem badawczym, pozwalającym na jakościową rekonstrukcję mikroświatów; (2) dobre rezultaty przynosi triangulacja materiałów badawczych w postaci narracji i fotografii, które mają charakter komplementarny; (3) fotografie stanowią dobry materiał do interpretacji trajektorii relacji rodzinnych i społecznych; (4) wizualny materiał badawczy można również wykorzystać do odkodowania emocji, lęków, pragnień, a także pewnej pozycji i perspektywy życiowej.
    The presented article is an analysis of visual materials: photographs. The research question is: how do mothers present their maternity? The presented content is a result of the research project carried out in 2012, supervised by dr Martyna Pryszmont- -Ciesielska: Współczesne oblicza macierzyństwa w perspektywie edukacji nieformalnej [Contemporary faces of maternity from the perspective of informal education]. It was expressed in a narrative and visual interpretation of the micro-worlds of the mothers participating in the research. In the interpretation a research strategy with the use of photos was employed, along with existing materials as understood by Krzysztof Konecki. The research material consisted of photos that were made available by two women: Karolina (28 photos) and Agnieszka (73 photos). Furthermore, each of the women pointed out one image that in their opinion constituted the best illustration of what it meant to be a mother. The women also defined maternity in their own words. In the course of the research attention was paid not only to the message of the photos, but also to the consistency of the visual and the verbal material. As a result of the conducted analysis two micro-worlds of the maternity of two women were described. The first one (Karolina’s) was defined as an affirmation of life expressed in activity and joy, and the second one (Agnieszka’s) as caring for children with a certain nostalgia with a touch of anxiety. In connection with the conclusions of the conducted research it was determined that (1) photos are good research material and they allow for a qualitative reconstruction of micro-worlds, (2) good results are produced by a triangulation of research material in the form of narratives and photos: their character is complementary, (3) photos are good material for the interpretation of the trajectories of family and social relationships, (4) visual research material can also be used to decode emotions, anxieties, desires, and a certain attitude and perspective on life.

    Opis:
    The aim of this study is to find an answer how human body was perceived and valued by the communities of the southern Baltic coast in the first half of the 1st millennium BC, i.e. during the period of development of the Lusatian culture and the Pomeranian culture associated with the Late Bronze Age and with Early Iron Age respectively. The research area included the northern part of the European Plain between the Elbe and Vistula-Narew-Bug basin. Sixteen sculptures and 35 representations engraved on urns were analysed. Pattern recognition was applied to identify them.
    Celem tego studium jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, w jaki sposób cielesność człowieka była postrzegana i waloryzowana przez społeczności południowego wybrzeża Bałtyku w pierwszej połowie I tysiąclecia BC, a więc w okresie rozwoju kultury łużyckiej, wiązanej z późną epoką brązu, i kultury pomorskiej odpowiadającej wczesnym fazom epoki żelaza. Obszarem badań objęto północną część Niżu Europejskiego pomiędzy dorzeczem Łaby a dorzeczem Wisły, Narwi i Bugu. Analizie poddano 16 przedstawień pełnofigurowych oraz 35 przestawień rytych na urnach ciałopalnych. Do ich identyfikacji posłużono się teorią rozpoznawania wzorców.

    This article presents the findings of an innovative qualitative study involving one CLIL (content and language integrated learning) student and one student in a parallel, non-CLIL strand at high school level in Sweden. The aim of the study was to investigate differences in students’ beliefs about language. The success of second (L2) and foreign language (FL) learning depends to a large degree on individual differences (Dörnyei, 2005; Skehan, 1991). Differences are normally elicited through questionnaires, interviews, and/or observations. In the present study, the aim was to get direct access to the informants’ own perspectives, without the content being too directed through predetermined questions. In this study, students were asked to take photos illustrating how they view (a) their L1 (Swedish), and (b) the FL/L2 English. Then the photos were thematically organized by the researcher. Subsequently, the thematic organization and the photos themselves were discussed with each of the informants during an inter iew. The informants were asked to elaborate on each theme and/or picture as to why and how it illustrates the respective language for them. The findings reveal substantial differences between the two informants in their views on their L1 and FL/L2, with the CLIL student highlighting communication rather than seeing the two languages as separate systems, and the non-CLIL student seeing language rather the other way around.
