The article contains a comparison of the functionality and qualitative verification of voice and video communication systems, through tests of voice message shift in time, at different data rates, tests of system use cases and the study of the popularity of applications in various environments and age groups, thanks to an electronic survey . The systems examined were: Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Signal, WhatsApp, Cisco Webex Meetings. The following hypothesis was made: Voice and video communication systems are very popular systems among users, and their functional capabilities are similar.

In this paper the application of the combined video quality assessment method as well as some other recently developed objective metrics for the analysis of the results of the nonlinear colour video filtering is discussed. The spatio-temporal versions of colour image filtering methods, including the Vector Median Filter, can be obtained using frame-by-frame approach but the proper choice of the spatio-temporal kernel weights and the colour space used during filtration should be based on a reliable video quality assessment. In some earlier papers the combined video quality assessment method has been proposed, which has a highly linear correlation with subjective quality scores and can be extended into the colour version. As the illustration of the problem, some results of the colour video denoising using the spatio-temporal VMF, also in a weighted version, together with the quality assessment results have been presented in the paper.

Opis:
Automatic video quality assessment plays an important role in modern multimedia systems which use lossy video compression and, usually wireless, video transmission. An interesting idea is the video quality estimation by simplified image quality metrics using frame by frame approach. In the paper the results of the simplified Combined Video Quality Metric application, proposed in one of earlier papers, are discussed. The obtained results were verified using well known LIVE Video Database.
Automatyczna ocena jakości sekwencji wideo jest jednym z ważniejszych elementów nowoczesnych systemów multimedialnych wykorzystujących stratną kompresję oraz, zwykle bezprzewodową, transmisję wideo. Jednymi z najdynamiczniej rozwijających się potencjalnych obszarów jej zastosowania są współczesne telefony komórkowe, netboooki oraz inny sprzęt elektroniczny tego rodzaju o stosunkowo niewielkiej mocy obliczeniowej. Wiele technik, które mogą być łatwo zaimplementowane w nowoczesnych systemach komputerowych, zwłaszcza z wykorzystaniem akceleracji obliczeń na procesorach graficznych (GPU), nie może być jednak bezpośrednio użytych w sprzęcie o ograniczonej wydajności. Jednym z możliwych rozwiązań jest estymacja jakości sekwencji wideo z użyciem uproszczonych technik oceny jakości dla analizy poklatkowej. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki zastosowania metody Monte Carlo do estymacji wartości złożonego obiektywnego wskaźnika jakości sekwencji wideo (CVQM) zaproponowanego w publikacji [6]. Weryfikacji korelacji uzyskanych rezultatów z ocenami subiektywnymi dokonano na podstawie wartości DMOS dostępnych w największej i najbardziej reprezentatywnej bazie danych służącej do takich celów tj. LIVE Video Quality Assessment Database. Baza ta zawiera 150 średnich ocen subiektywnych dla takiej samej liczby plików poddanych czterem typowym rodzajom zniekształceń związanych z kompresją stratną (MPEG, H.264) oraz transmisją wideo (bezprzewodową oraz w sieciach IP).

The video resolutions used in a variety of media are constantly rising. While manufacturers struggle to perfect their screens, it is also important to ensure the high quality of the displayed image. Overall quality can be measured using a Mean Opinion Score (MOS). Video quality can be affected by miscellaneous artifacts appearing at every stage of video creation and transmission. In this paper, we present a solution to calculate four distinct video quality metrics that can be applied to a real-time video quality assessment system. Our assessment module is capable of processing 8K resolution in real time set at a level of 30 frames per second. The throughput of 2.19 GB/s surpasses the performance of pure software solutions. The module was created using a high-level language to concentrate on architectural optimization.

W niniejszej pracy zaprezentowano metodę wideo-ultradźwiękową do kontroli jakości zbiornika ciśnieniowego, "Chemar" Kielce S.A. JCG16930L, pracującego jako odgazowywacz 2QS w Elektrociepłowni Białystok S.A. /EC/, narażonego na korozję wżerową. Z doświadczeń eksploatacyjnych wynika, że w 19-letniej praktyce eksploatacyjnej odgazowywacza w EC występowały, niewykrywalne dotychczas stosowanymi metodami pomiarowymi, przypadki korozji elektrochemicznej na jego poszyciu. W artykule przedstawiono aktualnie stosowane metody badań jakości odgazowywacza wg. zaleceń Urzędu Dozoru Technicznego oraz wykazano zalety zaproponowanej metody, w szczególności: większe prawdopodobieństwo wykrycia korozji mikrowżerowej bez wyłączania zbiornika z ruchu. Dokonano analizy SWOT proponowanej metody.
In this paper the application of video-quality ultrasonic inspection method of the pressurvise of vessel, "Chemar" Kielce S.A. JCG16930L, functioning as a degasser the 2QS in CHP Białystok S.A., exposed to pitting corrosion has been presented. The operation experience shows that, in 19 years of usage of degasser there have been cases of degasser electrochemical corrosion of the hull, which the current method of measurement has not been able to detect. We present the currently used methods of quality testing desecrator based on the recommendations of the Office of Technical Inspection, and propose method, showing its advantages, in particularly: bigger probability of finding of micro corrosion places without stopped exploitation of the degasser. SWOT of the proposed method analysis has been conducted.

The paper presents the methodology for 3D video subjective quality evaluation. Described methodology was designed to compare different 3D video compression technologies without an influence of any particular displaying or rendering technology. In addition detailed step by step description of test session design and preparation is provided. Experimental results for state-of-the-art 3D encoders are also included. All tests were conducted on two 3D monitors (polarization and autostereoscopic) thus influence of different displaying technologies on 3D video quality assessments has also been evaluated.

W procesie produkcyjnym płyt DVD-Video i Blu-ray zakodowany automatycznie materiał filmowy podlega oglądowi przez operatora systemu kodującego w celu wykrycia miejsc wymagających poprawienia. Decyzja o tym, czy należy wykonać powtórne kodowanie oraz dobranie nowych parametrów kodowania pozostają w gestii operatora kodera. Współczesne systemy kodujące mają wbudowane narzędzie umożliwiające automatyczne wskazywanie fragmentów, które prawdopodobnie wymagają powtórnego zakodowania, jednak brakuje ciągle narzędzi wspierających operatora w kwestii doboru parametrów kodowania. Przedstawiona w artykule metoda prognozowania wpływu strumienia binarnego S na wartość wskaźnika PSNR pozwala operatorowi systemu, kodującego materiał filmowy w trybie wieloprzebiegowym na przewidywanie wartości, jaką osiągnie wskaźnik PSNR po powtórnym kodowaniu przy innej wartości strumienia binarnego. Przeprowadzony eksperyment potwierdził praktyczną użyteczność metody.
During the DVD-Video and Blu-ray discs production process, the film encoded automatically is always inspected by the human operator, in order to detect fragments that require improvement. The decision of whether to perform a re-encoding as well as selection of new encoding parameters are up to the operator. Although modern encoding systems have built-in tool for automatically identifying fragments that are likely to require re-encoding, but still lacks tools to support the operator with setting new encoding parameters. The method presented in the paper allows the operator of the video encoding system to predict the value that the PSNR quality metric will reach after re-encoding video material with a chosen bit rate. Experiments confirmed the utility of the method.

In this paper we present the objective video quality metric based on mutual information and Human Visual System. The calculation of proposed metric consists of two stages. In the first stage of quality evaluation whole original and test sequence are pre-processed by the Human Visual System. In the second stage we calculate mutual information which has been utilized as the quality evaluation criteria. The mutual information was calculated between the frame from original sequence and the corresponding frame from test sequence. For this testing purpose we choose Foreman video at CIF resolution. To prove reliability of our metric were compared it with some commonly used objective methods for measuring the video quality. The results show that presented objective video quality metric based on mutual information and Human Visual System provides relevant results in comparison with results of other objective methods so it is suitable candidate for measuring the video quality.

Video sharing services like YouTube have become very popular which consequently results in a drastic shift of the Internet traffic statistic. When transmitting video content over packet based networks, stringent quality of service (QoS) constraints must be met in order to provide the comparable level of quality to a traditional broadcast television. However, the packet transmission is influenced by delays and losses of data packets which can have devastating influence on the perceived quality of the video. Therefore, we conducted an experimental evaluation of HTTP based video transmission focusing on how they react to packet delay and loss. Through this analysis we investigated how long video playback is stalled and how often re-buffering events take place. Our analysis revealed threshold levels for the packet delay, packet losses and network throughput which should not be exceeded in order to preserve smooth video transmission.

Opis:
The Traffic Flow Description (TFD) option of the IP protocol is an experimental option, designed by the Authors and described by the IETF’s Internet Draft. This option was intended for signalling for QoS purposes. Knowledge about forthcoming traffic (such as the amount of data that will be transferred in a given period of time) is conveyed in the fields of the option between end-systems. TFD-capable routers on a path (or a multicast tree) between the sender and receiver(s) are able to read this information, process it and use it for bandwidth allocation. If the time horizons are short enough, bandwidth allocation will be performed dynamically. In the paper a performance evaluation of an HD video transmission QoS assured with the use of the TFD option is presented. The analysis was made for a variable number of video streams and a variable number of TCP flows that compete with the videos for the bandwidth of the shared link. Results show that the dynamic bandwidth allocation using the TFD option better assures the QoS of HD video than the classic solution, based on the RSVP protocol.

The video games industry is one of the fastest growing branches of industry, reaching revenues comparable to (or even surpassing, depending on the source) the 70 year older film industry. The growth was not free from turmoil, as the industry faced many disruptive changes, market crashes, fusions and takeovers. High development costs and fierce competition make video games a high-risk business. While it seems obvious that companies in such unstable environment should strive to achieve the highest quality of their products, the uniqueness, variety, complexity, and constant evolution of video games makes common definitions and models of quality difficult to apply. This article provides an overview of problems concerning the application of the term "quality", it's frameworks and measurement methods to video games.

This paper presents a hardware architecture of the video quality assessment module. Two different metrics were implemented on FPGA using modern High Level Language for digital system design – Impulse C. FPGA resources consumption of the presented module is low, which enables module-level parallelization. Tests conducted for four modules working concurrently show that 1.96 GB/s throughput can be achieved. The module is capable of processing 8K video stream in a real-time manner i.e. 30 frames/second. Such high performance of the presented solution was achieved due to the series of architectural optimization introduced to the module, such as reduction of data precision and reuse of various module components.

This paper presents a newly designed stereoscopic video quality metric. Overall insights towards the creation of mechanisms utilized within the genuine metric are presented herein. Delivery of the core information and motivation behind the features implemented, as well as functionality of the Compressed Average Image Intensity (CAII) quality metric are of utmost importance. The mechanisms created might be characterized as an objective, reliable and versatile quality evaluation tool for advanced analysis of the content delivery chain within stereoscopic video services.

The paper proposes a No-Reference (NR) quality assessment measurement originally developed for H.264, used for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). In particular, authors present an investigation of NR metrics to objectively estimate the perceptual quality of a set of processed video sequences. The authors take into account typical distortions introduced by the block-based coding approaches like HEVC codec. The underlying processing used for the quality assessment considers the blockiness caused by the boundaries of each coded block and the blurring as a lack of spatial details. The correlation between the NR quality metrics and the well-known and most widely used objective metric, the Video Quality Model (VQM), is performed to validate the quality prediction accuracy based on the provided scores. The Pearson correlation coefficients obtained stand for promising results for different types of videos.
