This paper summarises our work in two areas: vertical MOSFETs, which can allow increased current drive per unit area of Si chip and SiGe HBT's in silicon-on-insulator technology, which bring together and promise to extend the very high frequency performance of SiGe HBT's with SOI-CMOS.

The aim of this work is to investigate a theoretical study of a vertical junction silicon solar cell capacitance under monochromatic illumination. By solving the continuity equation and using a one dimensional model in frequency modulation, we derive the analytical expressions of both excess minority carrier density and photovoltage. Based on these expressions, the solar cell capacitance was calculated; we then exhibited the effects of both temperature and incidence angle on the solar cell capacitance.

The paper presents a method for conducting measurements and processing the results that makes it possible to determine the vertical displacements of measurement and control network points stabilized outside and inside a building in which changes in the form of scratches and cracks on the external and internal walls were noticed. These changes were so disturbing that a number of technical opinions were issued on the technical condition of the building, the ground and water conditions as well as the location of other buildings in relation to that object. The measurement methodology is generally known, but the problem of correctly defining a reference system and estimating the values of vertical displacements still remains to be solved. Moreover, the paper presents the characteristics of the object subjected to research, its technical condition in 2006 and in 2015 as well as an analysis of the impact of a heating duct on the behaviour of the building.

By duplicating the binaural pressures of an actual source, transaural reproduction with two frontal loudspeakers is expected to recreate a virtual source in arbitrary direction. However, experiments indicated that in static transaural reproduction, the perceived virtual source is usually limited to the frontal-horizontal plane. The reasons for this limitation, as guessed, are that, in static reproduction, the dynamic cues for front-back and vertical localisation are incorrect, and the high-frequency spectral cues are unstable with head movement. To validate this hypothesis, the variations of ITD (interaural time difference) caused by head turning in both static and dynamic transaural reproductions are analysed. The results indicate that dynamic reproduction is able to create appropriate low-frequency ITD variations, and the static transaural reproduction is unable to do so. Psychoacoustic experiments are conducted to compare virtual source localisation in static and dynamic reproductions. The results indicate that dynamic reproduction is able to recreate the front, back, and vertical virtual source for low-pass stimuli below 3 kHz, while for full audible bandwidth stimulus, appropriate low-frequency dynamic cue and unstable high-frequency spectral cues in dynamic reproduction result in two splitting virtual sources. Therefore, the results of present work prove the limitations of static transaural reproduction.

The paper concerns the quality of interaction between the basic elements of the railroad surface, based on digital modeling. A map of vertical displacements of railroad subgrade was developed in the function of changing conditions in the subgrade load capacity. These conditions were characterized by the indicator value of the subgrade density and the location of subgrade density zones. The article presents the continuation of research, which at the introductory stage was focused only on the analysis of normal stress and shear stress in the railway sleeper.

The recent history of science has witnessed many shifts of paradigms. One of the major changes has been observed in the shift of spirituality, transforming from a traditional faith-based notion to a more secular or postmodern one. These changes are confusing for many modern people as they are not able to follow these rapid developments. This article is an attempt at providing a conceptual framework to understand the changes that the notion of spirituality has undergone using the concept of self-transcendence and its two major dimensions: vertical and horizontal. This model will serve to evaluate different ways of defining spirituality in both theology and the social sciences and to indicate the provenience of their roots in both disciplines. In conclusion, self-transcendence will be compared with the concept of self-actualization.

The purpose of this publication is to present the construction and adaptation of the test stand intended for motorcycle simulation research. The stand is designed to study the impact of motorcycle vibrations that act on the body of the driver and passenger. Motorcycles belong to one of the types of transport that directly affects users. Excessive vibrations transmitted to the body of the driver and passenger can make driving uncomfortable and even dangerous. The vibrations of motorcycles depend mainly on the technical condition of the vehicle, the structure of the vehicle, and the construction of the engine. The stand was built on the basis of a hydraulic power supply unit, distributor, and electrohydraulic pulsators. The purpose of the construction of the stand is to examine a given group of motorcycles to learn and eliminate vibrations that occur in various areas of motorcycles and affect the comfort, health, and safety of motorcycle travelers. Test studies of the presented stand are presented in this article. The preliminary results of the simulation tests determined the possibility of testing individual elements and motorcycles on the laboratory stand.

The paper reviews the development of the 3C-SiC MOSFETs in a unique development project combining the material and device expertise of HAST (Hoya Advanced Semiconductor Technologies) and Acreo, respectively. The motivation for the development of the 3C-SiC MOSFETs and the summary of the results from the lateral and vertical devices with varying size from single cell to 3×3 mm2 large devices are reviewed. The vertical devices had hexagonal and square unit cell designs with 2 žm and 4 žm channel length. The p-body was aluminum implanted and the source was nitrogen or phosphorus implanted. Low temperature Ti/W contacts were evaluated.

The aim of the work was modelling of shaft and calculation of natural vibration frequencies and critical rotations of a large-size, vertical mixed flow pump of total length l=4866 mm. Equations of motion were determined analytically, and then calculation results were verified by numerical modelling. The difficulty of the problem consisted in the shaft bearing, in which four hydrodynamic bearings of unknown parameters were applied. A four-mass beam supported on flexible supports of rigidity k and damping c was assumed as the discrete model of the shaft. Equations of motion for the system were derived with the method of forces. In order to verify correctness of the derived equations, one considered three models of the beam with different support configuration: the beam supported on rigid supports, the beam supported on elastic supports, and the beam supported on flexible supports of rigidity k and damping c. Calculation results are presented in tables and graphs.
Celem pracy jest modelowanie wału dużej pionowej pompy diagonalnej, o długości całkowitej: l=4866mm oraz obliczenie częstości drgań własnych i obrotów krytycznych. Wyznaczono analitycznie równania ruchu a następnie sprawdzono uzyskane rezultaty obliczeń za pomocą modelowania numerycznego. Utrudnienie pracy stanowiło ułożyskowanie wału w czterech łożyskach hydrodynamicznych o nieznanych parametrach. Jako model dyskretny wału przyjęto belkę czteromasową podpartą na podatnych podporach o sztywności k i tłumieniu c. Równania ruchu układu wyprowadzono metodą sił. W celu zweryfikowania poprawności wyprowadzonych równań rozważano modele belek w trzech etapach różniących sie konfiguracją podparcia: belka podparta na sztywnych podporach, belka podparta na podporach sprężystych, belka podparta na podporach podatnych o sztywności k i tłumieniu c. Rezultaty obliczeń podano w tabelach i na wykresach.

Professions such as doctors and lawyers often enjoy some degree of self-regulation, i.e. they can set the codes of conduct in the market and even determine the rules for joining the profession. We address the problem of the optimal scope of self-regulation. Specifically, we model a profession that can decide about the quality of the service, and we examine if the profession should also be allowed to determine the number of suppliers. We assume that a larger number of professionals reduce the fixed cost of providing quality, and hence the motive to restrict entry is mitigated. Nonetheless, we find that for well-behaved fixed costs functions, the size of the profession preferred by the professionals is smaller than the socially optimal one. Still, if the only alternative to self-regulation is free entry to the profession, then self-regulation is the preferable regime. These findings are relevant for the services that are difficult to substitute by the services produced outside the profession.
