Opis:
Experimental studies demonstrated the central role played by wear particles in sliding contacts. In this contribution, the classical variational formulation of contact problems is extended to wearing out solids by including the interfacial layer of wear debris between contacting bodies. Variational formulations are developed starting from strong forms of governing relations for the wearing solids and the layer. An implementation of a finite element representation of the contact problem is presented. The Lagrange multiplier method is applied to determine contact forces and to satisfy kinematic contact constraints. Discretized forms of the variational functionals lead to equations which can be useful in numerical analysis.
Wariacyjne opisy w mechanice kontaktu zużywających się ciał stałych i cząstek zużycia. Badania doświadczalne wskazały na istotną rolę, którą odgrywają cząstki zużycia znajdujące się w obszarach styku. W pracy uogólniono klasyczne sformułowania wariacyjne zagadnień kontaktowych na przypadek zużywających się ciał stałych uwzględniając warstwę cząstek zużycia między stykającymi się ciałami. Opisy wariacyjne wyprowadzono wychodząc z różniczkowych postaci równań stanu dla zużywających się ciał i warstwy cząstek zużycia. Przedstawiono implementację do metody elementów skończonych. Wykorzystano metodę mnożników Lagrange'a w celu określenia sił kontaktowych oraz spełnienia kinematycznych więzów styku. Dyskretne postacie funkcjonałów wariacyjnych prowadzą do równań, które mogą być użyteczne w analizie numerycznej.

In this paper, we study on the fractional nonlocal equation with the logarithmic nonlinearity formed by $$\begin{cases}\mathcal{L}_{K} u(x)+u \log |u|+|u|^{q-2} u=0, & x \in \Omega \\ u=0, & x \in \mathbb{R}^{n} \backslash \Omega\end{cases}$$ where 2 < q < 2∗s, LK is a non-local operator, Ω is an open bounded set of Rn with Lipschitz boundary. By using the fractional logarithmic Sobolev inequality and the linking theorem, we present the existence theorem of the ground state solutions for this nonlocal problem.

In this paper the authors study the existence of positive radial solutions to the Kirchhoff type problem involving the p-Laplacian $ -(a+b \sum_{\Omega_e} | \nabla u |^p dx) \Delta_p u = \lambda f (|x|, u), x ∈ \Omega_e, u=0 $ on $ \delta \Omega_e $, where λ > 0 is a parameter, $ Ω_e = {x ∈ \mathbb{R}^N : |x| > r_0}, r_0 > 0, N > p > 1, Δp $ is the p-Laplacian operator, and $ f ∈ C([r_0,+∞) × [0,+∞) , \mathbb{R} ) $ is a non-decreasing function with respect to its second variable. By using the Mountain Pass Theorem, they prove the existence of positive radial solutions for small values of λ.

From the text: "The problem of steady-state filtration in porous media leads to a boundary value problem with a free boundary for  a linear differential equation of elliptic type. C. Baiocchi [Ann. Mat. Pura Appl. (4) 92 (1972), 107–127; MR0408443] proposed a new technique for solving such problems. Not only does this technique permit one to obtain theoretical results which are rigorous from the mathematical point of view, but it is also useful in applications. The main idea consists in reducing the boundary value problem to a certain variational inequality. This technique was first applied to the solution of a basic model problem, but subsequently its applications were broadened and it was applied to more general cases.  In this essay we offer the reader a compact presentation of the fundamental results derived in this area during the last few years."

Let $n \in N^{\star}$, and $N \geq n$ be an integer. We study the spectrum of discrete linear $2n$-th order eigenvalue problems \[ \begin{cases} \Sigma_{k=0}^{n}(-1)^{k} \Delta^{2k} u(t-k) = \lambda{}u(t), & t \in[1,N]_{\mathbb{Z}} \\ \Delta^{i}u(-(n-1)) = \Delta^{i}u(N-(n-1)), & i \in[0, 2n-1]_{\mathbb{Z}} \end{cases} \] where A is a parameter. As an application of this spectrum result, we show the existence of a solution of discrete nonlinear $2n$-th order problems by applying the variational methods and critical point theory.
