The concept of human rights from the very beginning was involved in political struggle and up to now is manipulated by governments, politicians and various groupings for their purposes. Being deeply rooted in the Christian intellectual tradition its universal implementation faces various difficulties in the countries that belong to other traditions, in particular Confucian and Buddhist. Among the principal problems in the Asia-Pacific region the author points out a collectivist notion of an individual and different interpretation of “freedom”, as well as absence of the legal tradition and the emphasis on obligations rather than on rights. Therefore, in the Asia-Pacific region two elements, crucial to “human rights”, are lacking: an autonomous individual as a subject and the recognition of innate rights. Moreover, the Confucian political tradition elaborated a different concept and structure of state. Under historical tradition and circumstances political aspirations of the people were very low and the movement for human rights could not be born. It was initiated only recently under the Western impact. The author analyses potential scenarios of the future evolution and indicates that the economic development and social transformations in course will increase autonomy of an individual and strengthen legal order, as well as stimulate further democratization initiated in the region merely at the end of the 1980s. However, in order to introduce the concept of human rights to social and political practice a profound transformation of East Asian civilization is required.

The aim of the study is to answer whether 2 predominant values - achievement or social relations - and reactivity influence (a) the importance of work aspects, (b) satisfaction with them and overall job satisfaction, (c) connections between overall job satisfaction and satisfaction with work aspects. Bank employees were investigated with the Strelau Temperament Inventory-Revised by Strelau, Angleitner, Bantelman, and Ruch (1990, reactivity), Orientation to Work Values Inventory by Seifert and Bergmann (1983, values), and Work Description Inventory by Neuberger and Allerbeck (1978; importance and satisfaction with work aspects, overall job satisfaction). Predominant values, reactivity, and their interaction influence the importance of work aspects. The values affect overall job satisfaction and satisfaction with Conditions. Reactivity does not affect overall job satisfaction, but it strongly influences the structure of satisfaction with work aspects, and low-reactives compared to high-reactives are more satisfied with 4 out of the 7 considered aspects. Among the high-reactives, connections between overall job satisfaction and satisfaction with work aspects depend on their predominant values. It was concluded that reactivity can modify regulative functions of personal values towards overall job satisfaction: The values have a rather declarative character for low-reactives, but meeting aspirations connected with their values is very important for high-reactives' job satisfaction.

Attempts at distinguishing the category of “stranger” from other research categories have been made from a variety of points of view characterising different disciplines of knowledge. The approach suggested in the article tries to set in order the existing considerations conducted in sociology. Its aim is not to reconstruct and compare all the possible explanations but rather to establish limits in which the suggested solutions may be placed. The analysis of chosen items from the literature of the subject made in the present article points to a peculiar dualism – existence of two basic ways of understanding the “stranger” and, in consequence, two criteria of “strangeness”. One of them results as it were from the essence of the “stranger” as the subject of the analysis, who is stigmatised irrespective of himself or the external perspective – the perspective of the appraising subject. One is a “stranger” by virtue of objective, unchanging factors, like e.g. race, sex, nationality or age. Most often these categories consider not so much people's very traits, as consequences of their belonging to cognitively distinguished social classes or groups. This type of explanation may be labelled as absolute or unqualified. The other criterion of “strangeness” is liquid, as it is established in a subjective appraisal by the observer in a dynamically changing context. Here it is called relative or contextual, because of the subjective perspective of appraisal dependent on a socially defined situation. As it will be shown, this type of interpretation shakes the conceptions that from social categorisation made a tool of a “necessary” division into “better” and “worse”, “one's own” and “strange” people.

The paper attempts to show interrelations between forgiveness and formation. First of all, some key concepts for these problems have been discussed, i.e. forgiveness, values and formation. It has been shown how significant are values in the process of formation and what role is played by forgiveness in human life. This has allowed to prove that forgiveness is an important value in formation, because it plays a significant role in the right development of man as person. The last point of the paper discusses the relationship between the process of formation and the factors which influence the readiness and ability to forgive. Emphasis has been laid on the factors directly related to the forgiving person and with the person causing harm, omitting those which are related with the size and character of the harm. It has been stressed how important is a proper understanding of forgiveness, ability to notice that each man is limited by evil, an ability to see positive traits in the culprit, and an ability to communicate to others one's own feeling states. Eventually, the significance of religious faith has been pinpointed in the formation to forgiveness.

The problems of the values preferred by teachers merits our attention, especially under the conditions of political, economic, social and cultural transformations in which Polish society has lived recently. From the social point of view, it is interesting to point the issue of the hierarchy of values approved by teachers. This issue has been shown on the basis of empirical research among the teachers in Sandomierz. All the analyses here tended to define the direction of the gradation of values which the teachers of the Sandomierz schools regarded as important. The analyses sought to determine the variables which condition the approved hierarchy of values. Detailed analyses pinpoint such variables as sex, age, and period of teachers' work, and they differentiate the approved hierarchy of values. The findings show that there is an interrelation between the independent variables under consideration and reveal their role in how the teachers under study rank particular values. A general characterization of the population under study has proved that the percentage of the believing teachers is high and reaches almost 85 per cent; it is, however, lower than the percentage from the research of religiosity in Poland (ca. 90 per cent). It is worth noting that almost 12 per cent of the teachers under study are religiously indecisive, but they are attached to Christian tradition. The ratio of teachers' attitudes towards religious practices points to a relatively high selectivity in their approach to religiosity. Only 42 per cent of respondents do practice systematically (in Polish research − 52.4 per cent, in the Włocław diocese 45 per cent), almost 40 per cent are not systematic, 15 per cent rarely practice, and 3.4 per cent do not practice at all. Out of religious truths the existence of God is most generally accepted (91 per cent), and the least the infallibility of the pope (31 per cent), the existence of hell (ca. 54 per cent). As far as the norms of the Decalogue are concerned, the population under study accepts most the norm you shall not kill, and honour your father; the respondents ranked as the third the commandment concerning the cult of God (75.6 per cent). Among the values in question family values were ranked as the last ones (family happiness and work and sacrifice for one's own children); the second place took values related to religious life (everlasting salvation; preservation of the faith in God). It follows from the research that the socio-political background, with the stress laid on the principle of democracy and freedom, has a clear impact on the fact how teachers appreciate of such values as freedom, dignity, one's own beliefs. At the same time, the same context seems to magnify the tendencies to the individualization of the values of religion. In their approved hierarchy of values the teachers rank very highly family, religion and the values of human life. These are the values for which they would lay down their life. Now in Poland a thesis about the devaluation of the value of human life is being put forward, stressing the widespread phenomenon of abortion, propagation of euthanasia, or else various forms of violence and crime shown in the media. It seems that the democratic context with its emphasis on freedom, pluralism and democracy, is conducive to the formation among teachers attitudes towards their own life and the life of the others. One can notice among the respondents a clear tendency to underestimate and ignore such values as solidarity and social equality. This fact may signal disappointment to this social category, or at least a considerable weakening of a hope that these values can be fully realized. Such hopes were awakened in the beginning of the transformations. After ten years of transformation, the respondents who experience various difficulties and are burdened with big costs of those transformations are able to asses the gap between the expectations and reality.

The national character is not so much a permanent structure, as rather a task, dynamism, or process. One should bear in mind that it is grounded on the ethical-moral foundation and other anthropological values, also religious. The proper national character must carry out positive moral and existential values, therefore that character is not only something automatic, as it were passible, but is also shaped by people and centres better prepared, aware of that, more sensitive, that is there must a process of shaping positive traits of national character. Here a great role was played by underground journalism. It was also extremely effective, owing to the dramatic situation of the society.

From the observations it can be concluded that the landscape of suburban areas is submitted to snappy, often uncontrolled changes, which result in endangerment of its aesthetical value. The reasons for such occurrence can be found in the social-political, planning and legal, and economical sphere, and also in the lack of pro-landscape consciousness in society and among the people responsible for protection and landscape shaping. In order to protect the areas surrounding us from devastation, an intimate change is needed, by viewing not only the landscape but also the state of our civic consciousness, not only in the domain of landscape and cultural heritage protection, but also in a much wider aspect: political, social and economical, as only a wealthy, civic society with responsibility for the common good and being conscious of its needs, rights and duties is able to care effectively for the landscape. That is why, apart from raising the general level of education about the value of the landscape, work on increasing civic consciousness in needed. Wishing to make our landscapes more beautiful, we have to consider the education of local societies, clerks, self-government activists, youth and people who professionally deal with spatial planning, among them also architects, city planners, ecologists, geographers, naturalists and admirers of antiquity, among whom there should be real consent about the fact that the final effect of all action in an area should be a beautiful, harmonic landscape.

In the present article the meaning of `education' is discussed from the position of pedagogy of culture and the values are pointed to that are realized by Stanisław Jachowicz (1796-1857) in Ćwiczenia pobożne rozwijające myśl (1857) – the highest, most important, most valuable values, that are a perfect model for Christian education. Hence, the structural analysis of Jachowicz's selected texts and their problems are discussed and their worldview, spiritual, ethical and cognitive values are pointed to; next, the kinds of utterances and the techniques used by the writer are shown in order to pronounce the fact that he professed Christian principles and wanted his readers to become pious, good people who would propagate the good. The analytical method is mainly used, and it is complemented with the method of statistical analysis, which allows discovering more deeply Jachowicz's pedagogical thought that, in the author's opinion, belongs to the so-called pedagogy of culture. It has been found that in the collection Jachowicz declares his adherence to the Catholic worldview and becomes its exponent and apologist. He emphasizes the greatness, omnipresence and uncommonness of God, at the same time teaching his readers to worship Him. This is done in various ways: he orders it, prays, and teaches. It has been calculated that as many as 91.5% of all the statements in the examined works worship God. Jachowicz also distinctly expresses spiritual values, such as man's contact with God; Christian virtues: faith, hope, trust, vocation and responsibility; struggle against evil; and man's participation in the salutary Passion of Redemption. Also another group is distinguished – that of ethical values (moral imperatives), like: honest work, piety, honor, respect for life, man's dignity, intellectual development, humility; as well as cognitive values containing the image of real world and man's activity, shaping the recipient's consciousness and teaching him to foresee the results of his actions and reasoning, expressing the care for human life marked with chastity, piety, unselfishness, continuously remembering about God and about eternal salvation. These values are expressed in three forms: order-appeal, prayer and direction (instruction). Also the techniques that are used and the kinds of statements have been examined in order to prove that orders having the informative-instructive, instructive, esthetic, captivating, instructive-captivating, and captivating-esthetic functions dominate. By means of them Jachowicz educates with the aim of respecting Christian values, calling for a fully happy life, united with God, for sainthood. It turns out that to this goal he also uses various kinds of prayer: adoration, request, imploration; and he utters evaluating statements – which has not been yet emphasized – as a priest with an intensive inner life. Hopefully the present article will allow pedagogues to make the young generation consciously and more profoundly make the discussed values come true in their lives. However, it must be added that the present article is the first result of studies on Stanisław of Dzików's literary output and it does not exhaust the issue; nevertheless the author hopes to meet the challenge in the future.

Ekspozycja na czynniki biologiczne często prowadzi do wystąpienia wielu niekorzystnych skutków zdrowotnych u narażonych osób. Wypracowanie wartości normatywnych i (lub) referencyjnych dla biologicznych czynników szkodliwych obecnych w powietrzu jest warunkiem koniecznym zachowania właściwego stanu środowiska zarówno pracy, jak i pozazawodowego, a także właściwej jego kontroli i oceny. W artykule dokonano przeglądu istniejących w piśmiennictwie przedmiotu standardów, propozycji wartości normatywnych i wartości referencyjnych dla takich biologicznych czynników szkodliwych, jak: bakterie, grzyby, substancje pochodzenia drobnoustrojowego (np. endotoksyny i subtylizyna), alergeny zwierzęce (kota, psa i roztoczy) oraz środowisk specjalnych (szpitali czy pomieszczeń ambulatoryjnych), a także powierzchni w pomieszczeniach, gdzie wymagana jest duża czystość powietrza. Wszechstronnie przedstawiono istniejący stan prawny w tej dziedzinie w Polsce, a ponadto omówiono ograniczenia związane z praktycznym stosowaniem wartości normatywnych i problemy związane z dokonywaniem oceny zagrożeń spowodowanych bioaerozolami, przy braku kryteriów interpretacyjnych wyników pomiarów.
Exposure to biological agents very often leads to adverse health effects in susceptible individuals. Development of values for biologically derived airborne contaminants seems to be necessary to prevent harmful exposure in occupational and non-occupational environments, to ensure reliability of measurement methods and proper interpretation of the results. This paper presents an overview of existing quantitative standards and guidelines for biological agents such as bacteria, fungi, substances derived from microorganisms (endotoxins, subtilisins), animal (mite, cat and dog) allergens, for special environments such as hospitals and related facilities, as well as for microbial contamination of surface in indoor spaces where high air quality is required. This article describes limitations of the available recommendations and discusses decision making and data interpretation issues without limit values for bioaerosols. Moreover, a special emphasis is placed in the paper on existing quantitative Polish standards and proposals for occupational exposure limits and reference limit values for work and other indoor environments.

Three arguments are developed to support this thesis: (1) Since there is no algorithm for making methodological decisions as to what theory should be accepted, what method should be used, etc, scientists have to pass judgements that are essentially evaluative. Those judgements belong to science. The attempt to save the ideal of value-free science by distinguishing value-free object language and value-laden metalanguage (in which those evaluative judgements would be formulated) does not work. For there are no reasons to expel the methodology of a given science from that science, and even if we made this move, we would finally come to the level of evaluative judgements, unless we accept regressus ad infinitum. (2) Even if the above distinction were tenable, this would not save the ideal of value-free science. For our language is full of the so-called „thick ethical concepts” that are both descriptive and evaluative. They are justifiably used at least in some sciences. We could exclude – by definition - such concepts from science, but this would result in expelling many legitimate disciplines from the realm of science. This would mean not that science was value--free but that we made it so. (3) The fact that scientific results are sometimes expressed by means of ethically thick concepts does not allow us to restrict values involved in science to epistemological values – moral values are involved as well. Moreover, apparently pure methodological concepts such as „good solution” or „sufficient evidence” seem to be also „ethically thick”. Such considerations allow us to draw a conclusion that science possesses intrinsic moral dimension, and separating the epistemic and moral points of view in discussions about science is unjustified.

Dysponując danymi uczącymi zarejestrowanymi podczas działania obiektu w różnych chwilach czasu "makro" oraz w różnych stanach technicznych, możliwe jest wyznaczenie przekształcenia przestrzeni wartości cech do przestrzeni wartości cech głównych. Posiadając parametry przekształcenia, można wyznaczyć wartości cech głównych w dowolnych chwilach czasu "makro". Poz.wala to na wyznaczenie trajektorii wartości cech głównych w dziedzinie czasu "makro" w oparciu o nowe, wcześniej nie analizowane dane pochodzące z badanego obiektu lub obiektu tej samej klasy. Wyznaczone trajektorie mogą być cennym źródłem informacji o zachodzących zmianach stanu technicznego maszyny podczas jej eksploatacji.
Learning data obtained during machine operation in different moments of "macro" time and with taking into account different technical states make it possible to obtain transformation of a space of feature values of observed signals to the eigenspace of feature values. Basing on parameters of this transformation it is possible to obtain feature eigenvalues in any moment of "macro" time. It allows us to determine feature eigenvalues trajectory in "macro" time domain on the basis of new data which was previously unanalyzed and was taken from investigated object. Determined trajectories can be an important source of information about technical state of a machine.
