Nawet na terenach o ekstremalnie zimnym klimacie, wykształcają się miejsca spotkań i współegzystowania mieszkańców. W publikacji oparto się na przykładach ze Spitzbergenu. Badania przeprowadzono w mieście Longyearbyen. Czynniki, które determinują jakość przestrzeni wspólnych, ich użyteczność, stopień akceptacji i zadowolenia ze spędzania w nich czasu przez mieszkańców, wynikają z ogólnie znanych uwarunkowań dotyczących kształtowania przestrzeni społecznych i publicznych, ale w większym stopniu, ze specyficznych warunków klimatycznych.
This article’s aim is to demonstrate that social spaces play an immensely important role within cities regardless of the climate zones in which those cities are located. Even areas with an extremely cold climate see the emergence of places where their residents meet and coexist. The publication is based on examples from Spitsbergen. Research was conducted in the town of Longyearbyen. The factors that determine the quality of common spaces, their utility, the degree of their acceptance and satisfaction derived from spending time in them are the outcomes of widely known determinants concerning the design of social and public spaces, but are affected by their specific climate conditions to a much greater degree.

Opis:: The research concerning the future of sound in towns and cities is focused on two main issues: studies are conducted separately on the comfort, i.e., assessment of visual scenery and sound levels in a cityscape and separately, on the health protection issues. The policy of the acoustic environment control with regard to the health of its inhabitants is traditionally connected with measurements of noise levels presented with the help of the coefficients L_den and L_night noise indicators, while the models based on tranquillity rating (TR) with the help of the coefficients L_Amax, L_Amin, L_Aeq, L_A10. None of these coefficients refers to the soundscape. In this paper, we present a justification of the necessity to enter into discussion on the need to combine these research areas. The authorities managing towns and cities of the future should be provided with tools enabling them to assess modernisation projects from the point of view of both health and comfort of inhabitants. We present our ideas treating them as an invitation to a scientific discourse, in the form of analysis of actual projects concerning modification of existing cityscapes. The modifications are aimed at returning some unfavourably developed spaces to the inhabitants. When analysing the changes proposed in the projects, we take into account two models of the revitalised area quality assessment. The first model is used to assess the effect of noise on health. The second model, based on the indicator known as the TR, serves simultaneous assessment of an area from both visual and acoustical aspects. The models used contemporarily by scientists show multiple flaws, therefore, for the TR indicator we propose a modification taking the sound structure into account. The modification embodies the idea of masking unpleasant sounds with friendly ones. The changes to the model are presented, in this paper, in the context of two projects which were worked out in the framework of 12th edition of the intercollegiate workshop cycle The New Cityscapes. In the course of each workshop of the cycle, we combined art, science, and technology in order to seek solutions creating a better future. In view of the importance of this issue and the need to introduce a certain level of universalism, the authors offer an invitation to join a discussion on the future of sound in urban agglomerations.

Opis:: Services related to leisure time are treated as an important factor in the development of cities - a factor creating urban recreational spaces. It is also important to provide such spaces with appropriate elements of infrastructure, which would contribute to increasing its attractiveness. Urban recreational spaces gain more and more experimental and unique forms and are more and more defined in terms of functionality, aesthetics and identity. This article includes three examples of this type of spaces in Łódź. On the basis of conducted research, there was presented the importance of infrastructure arrangements that are thought-through and “well-anchored” in the urban tissue.

Zieleń i woda posiadają niezwykłe walory w kreacjach architektonicznych wodnych i zielonych miejskich przestrzeni związanych z plastyką oraz ekspresją form architektonicznych odbitych w wodzie, a przede wszystkim pięknem kształtowanego otoczenia miejsca zamieszkania człowieka. Stanowią wiodące elementy natury w kształtowaniu zdrowego oraz przyjaznego zrównoważonego środowiska mieszkaniowego.
The article has been devoted to the role of greenery and water in the shaping of contemporary urban spaces. The presented designs of green and water-based contemporary architectural and urban complexes contain feature mutual relations and links between the users of a space and the place in which they reside. Greenery and water play a significant role in the shaping of the architecture and composition of urban spaces. They create a warm atmosphere for initiating human contact and have a significant influence on the perception of the space of the place that they shape. Greenery and water possess extraordinary qualities in architectural water-based and green designs of urban spaces associated with their visual side and the expression of architectural forms reflected in water, and especially the beauty of the surroundings of man’s place of residence. They constitute leading elements of nature in the shaping of a healthy, friendly and sustainable housing environment.

Opis:: Hipodrom jest jedną z najstarszych form obiektu sportowego, przeznaczoną do organizacji pokazów i wyścigów konnych. Tradycja budowy tego typu struktur sięga czasów Starożytnej Grecji i Cesarstwa Rzymskiego. Obecnie są to rozległe założenia, zajmujące powierzchnię nawet kilkudziesięciu hektarów, położone nierzadko w strefach centralnych dużych miast, wykorzystywane nie tylko do pokazów i zawodów, ale także do codziennej rekreacji konnej i hipoterapii. Współczesne planowanie rozwoju hipodromów wraz z towarzyszącymi im obiektami i urządzeniami, jako tzw. „parków jeździeckich”, łączących elementy sportowe i rekreacyjne, przy zachowaniu podstawowej funkcji, jaką są wyścigi konne, pozwala na ich przekształcenie w wielofunkcyjne, miejskie przestrzenie zielone o dużej wartości społecznej i krajobrazowej. Dzięki temu nabierają one znaczenia nie tylko w skali miast, ale także całych regionów i cieszą się stale rosnącą popularnością, jako miejsca spędzania czasu wolnego. W artykule zaprezentowane i przeanalizowane zostaną wybrane przykłady hipodromów z Polski i Europy, pod kątem ich znaczenia dla zrównoważonego rozwoju miast.
Hippodrome is one of the oldest forms of a sports facility, intended for organizing horse shows and races. The tradition of constructing such objects dates back to the times of Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. Today, these are extensive facilities, occupying area of even several dozen of hectares, often located in the central zones of big cities. They are used not only for shows and competitions, but also for everyday horse riding and EAT (Equestrian Assisted Therapy). Modern development of hippodromes with accompanying buildings and infrastructure as so-called “equestrian parks”, combining sports and recreational elements, while maintaining the basic function of horse racing, allows them to be transformed into multifunctional, green spaces of high social and landscape values. As a result, they take on significance not only in the cities, but entire regions and enjoys increasing popularity as places of everyday leisure. The article presents and analyzes selected examples of hippodromes from Poland and Europe, in terms of their importance in sustainable urban development.

Opis:: The article presents the role and importance of creating new green areas in the areas of urban agglomerations. Particular attention was paid to the processes of creating new green areas in post-industrial areas and urban wastelands and their restoration for cities. The issue of the formation of pocket parks is raised and the results of the detailed research carried out by the authors in 2020 are briefly discussed. The article presents a comparative analysis of several selected examples of pocket parks, describes the role they play in cities. The purpose of the research was to determine what elements of pocket parks play an important role for the microclimate of cities and their communities. An example of the creation of a new pocket park in the city center of Gliwice, Poland is presented. The conclusions of the research and the evaluation of the experiment carried out by the authors can be useful for the creation of urban policies, planning of green areas in cities and the creation of utility-functional programs for new green areas.

As a result of selected urban areas analyzes a large amount of difficult to access spaces which are devastated and covered by stagnation emerges. Contemporary revitalization of urban spaces could become an answer to the issue of sustainable development of 21th century cities. This issues were featured of international realizations and conceptual solutions bases, i.a. post-industrial areas revitalization, the use of difficult to access urban spaces (e.g. inland waters, waterfronts and riverbanks, revitalizations of devastated urban districts and in reference to architecture of the future).

Opis:: Przedmiotem pracy jest zagospodarowanie przestrzenne obszarów zieleni miejskiej w dzielnicy Podgórze Duchackie w Krakowie. Głównym celem opracowania jest identyfikacja zagospodarowania przestrzennego obszarów zieleni miejskiej na terenie dzielnicy Podgórze Duchackie w Krakowie oraz ustalenie zależności poziomu tego zagospodarowania z strukturą własności gruntów. Ważnym celem pracy było także poznanie opinii mieszkańców na temat zagospodarowania terenów zieleni miejskiej badanej dzielnicy. Choć badania terenowe wykazały, że obszary zieleni miejskiej Podgórza Duchackiego są dostatecznie zagospodarowane to na terenie dzielnicy jest jednak wiele przestrzeni, które można poprawić. Obszary te należą do różnych właścicieli. W odniesieniu do własności można zauważyć, iż obszary zieleni miejskiej ogólnodostępnej takiej jak parki i zieleńce to przede wszystkim własność Gminy Kraków. W opinii mieszkańców natomiast obszarów zieleni miejskiej jest za mało, a ich zagospodarowanie nie należy do najlepszych. Podjęcie tej tematyki wydaje się bardzo istotne z uwagi na bardzo duży odsetek mieszkańców miasta, którzy korzystają z terenów zielonych. Spośród osób, które wzięły udział w badaniu ankietowym niemal wszyscy (99,2%) przyznali, że przebywają w przestrzeniach zieleni miejskiej, natomiast 96,9% respondentów korzysta z zieleni miejskiej na terenie Podgórza Duchackiego.
The subject of the work is the spatial development of urban green areas in the Podgórze Duchackie district in Krakow. The main aim is the identification of the spatial development of green areas in the district and checking the correlation between the development and the ownership structure of land. Getting to know the residents opinion on the spatial development of green areas of the district has been another important aim of the study. The field work proved that the green areas are developed well enough, however there are still many places which can be improved. In terms of ownership the public green areas of the district belong to the Krakow Commune. In the inhabitants opinion there are to few green areas in the district and their development is not so good. The investigation of the subject seem to be important because of the significant number of inhabitants who use the green areas, among all respondents over 99% proved they spend time in green areas of the city.

Opis:: Wenngleich die Ultra-Kultur im öffentlichen Raum in Gestalt von Graffitis, Tags und Aufklebern allgegenwärtig ist, blieb dieser Ausschnitt der Fußballfankultur linguistisch bislang weitegehend unerforscht. Im Rahmen der vorliegenden explorativen Untersuchung von Ultra-Stickern sollen die bisher unverbundenen Forschungsbereiche, linguistische Fußballfanforschung und Linguistic Landscape, nun zusammengeführt werden. Konkret geht die Untersuchung dabei der Frage nach, welche Inszenierungs- und Positionierungspraktiken sowie Strategien der Raumaneignung mit der Sehfläche Ultra-Aufkleber im öffentlichen Raum realisiert werden. Als Datengrundlage dienen Aufkleber, die im Zeitraum von November 2022 bis Februar 2023 in folgenden Städten fotografisch dokumentiert wurden: Dresden, Greifswald, Rostock und Lübeck. Mit Blick auf eine gegenstandsadäquate Datenerhebung und -analyse wurde auf ein methodisches Vorgehen zurückgegriffen, das die ethnographische Linguistic Landscape mit Leitprinzipien der Grounded Theory verkoppelt. Es kann gezeigt werden, dass diese Sehfläche für verschiedene Inszenierungs- und Positionierungspraktiken funktionalisiert wird. Diese reichen von der Entzeitlichung des Stadionerlebnisses mitsamt identitätsstiftender Kollektiverfahrungen über die Tradierung bestimmter Feindbilder bis hin zur Perpetuierung hegemonialer Männlichkeit und der Heroisierung des eigenen delinquenten Verhaltens respektive der eigenen Gewaltaffinität. Darüber hinaus kann eine interaktionale Dimension nachgewiesen werden, die sich darin offenbart, dass diese Sticker häufig in mehrstufige Aushandlungsprozesse um die territoriale Deutungshoheit eingebettet sind.
Although ultra culture in public spaces, in the form of graffiti, tags, and stickers, is ubiquitous, this particular aspect of football fan culture has remained linguistically unexplored. This exploratory investigation of ultra stickers aims to bring together the previously disconnected research areas of linguistic football fan research and linguistics. Specifically, the study examines which practices of staging, positioning, and spatial appropriation are realized through the visual medium of ultra stickers in public spaces. The data basis consists of stickers that were photographically documented in the following cities from November 2022 to February 2023: Dresden, Greifswald, Rostock, and Lübeck. In terms of appropriate data collection and analysis, a methodological approach combining ethnographic linguistic landscape with principles of grounded theory was utilized. It can be demonstrated that this visual medium is functionalized for various practices of staging and positioning. These range from the de-temporalization of the stadium experience, along with identity-building collective experiences, to the perpetuation of specific enemy images, and the perpetuation of hegemonic masculinity and the glorification of one’s own delinquent behavior or affinity for violence. Furthermore, an interactive dimension can be identified, which is revealed by the fact that these stickers are frequently embedded in multi-stage negotiation processes concerning territorial interpretation authority.
