Przestrzeń publiczna do niedawna traktowana jako „państwowa”, tzn. dla większości „niczyja”, w okresie przemian ustrojowych nabrała istotnego znaczenia. Stała się areną starć pomiędzy różnego rodzaju „graczami”. W walce o przestrzeń publiczną ścierają się interesy między innymi władz samorządowych, prywatnych inwestorów i mieszkańców. Inwestycje w przestrzeni publicznej sprawiają, że w ciągu ostatnich lat podlega ona dynamicznym przemianom. Kto ostatecznie decyduje o wyglądzie przestrzeni publicznych i funkcjach, jakie one pełnią? Czy zawsze są one zgodne z oczekiwaniami odbiorców? W pierwszej części opracowania przytoczono definicje przestrzeni publicznej oraz omówiono problematykę przestrzeni semipublicznych. W drugiej części pracy skupiono się na omówieniu głównych „graczy” o przestrzeń publiczną miast, przedstawiono motywy ich działania oraz preferencje w gospodarowaniu przestrzenią, a także przedstawiono przykłady przemian przestrzeni publicznej miast będące często wynikiem gry interesów.
Public space has been considered as “state”, i.e. “no-one’s” until recently, but it has become more and more important during the transition. Public space transformed to an arena where different types of “players” are encountering each other. In the battle for public space there are visible interests of inter alia self-governments, private investors and city dwellers. Investments in public space causes that it is changing dynamically. Who makes the final decision on the outlook and performance of and functions carried out by public spaces? Is it always in accordance with expectations of users? There are definitions of public space and the concept of semipublic space presented in the first part of the paper. In the second part there is focus on main “players” for public space. Their motives as well as preferences in space management are presented. Finally, some examples of changes in urban public spaces are discussed which are often an effect of a game of interests.

Niniejszy artykuł został poświęcony roli zieleni i wody w kształtowaniu współczesnych przestrzeni miejskich. Prezentowane projekty zielonych i wodnych współczesnych założeń architektoniczno – urbanistycznych zawierają wątek wzajemnych relacji i powiązań między użytkownikami przestrzeni, a miejscem w którym przebywają. Zieleń i woda odgrywają znaczącą rolę w kształtowaniu architektury oraz kompozycji miejskich przestrzeni. Stwarzają ciepłą atmosferę do nawiązywania kontaktów międzyludzkich i mają znaczący wpływ na percepcję przestrzeni miejsca, które kształtują. Zieleń i woda posiadają niezwykłe walory w kreacjach architektonicznych wodnych i zielonych miejskich przestrzeni związanych z plastyką oraz ekspresją form architektonicznych odbitych w wodzie, a przede wszystkim pięknem kształtowanego otoczenia miejsca zamieszkania człowieka. Stanowią wiodące elementy natury w kształtowaniu zdrowego oraz przyjaznego zrównoważonego środowiska mieszkaniowego.
The article has been devoted to the role of greenery and water in the shaping of contemporary urban spaces. The presented designs of green and water-based contemporary architectural and urban complexes contain feature mutual relations and links between the users of a space and the place in which they reside. Greenery and water play a significant role in the shaping of the architecture and composition of urban spaces. They create a warm atmosphere for initiating human contact and have a significant influence on the perception of the space of the place that they shape. Greenery and water possess extraordinary qualities in architectural water-based and green designs of urban spaces associated with their visual side and the expression of architectural forms reflected in water, and especially the beauty of the surroundings of man’s place of residence. They constitute leading elements of nature in the shaping of a healthy, friendly and sustainable housing environment.

Niniejszy artykuł został poświęcony kształtowaniu miejskich pieszych przestrzeni publicznych w nowych rewitalizowanych strukturach miejskich miast europejskich początkiem XXI wieku na przykładzie nowego rewitalizowanego centrum Bjørvika Barcode w Oslo. Powstają nowe przestrzenie publiczne kreujące nowy kontekst przestrzenny. Artykuł dotyczy także niektórych aspektów kreacji przestrzeni szczególnie z pozycji pieszych użytkowników „parteru” tych przestrzeni oraz ich percepcji związanej m. in. z kompozycją i estetyką architektury oraz stosunku do otoczenia i natury. Kreacja wnętrz miejskich przestrzeni posiada znaczący wpływ na kształtowanie otaczającej synergicznej architektury i synergicznych pieszych miejskich przestrzeni publicznych, a także tworzy nową tożsamość przestrzenną miejsca i architektury.
This paper is devoted to the process of shaping of urban pedestrian public spaces in new revitalised urban structures of European cities in the early 21st century upon the example of a new revitalised centre of Bjørvika Barcode in Oslo. New public spaces emerge, creating a new spatial context. The paper also focuses on some aspects of the creation of space, particularly from the perspective of pedestrian users of the ‘ground floor’ of these spaces and the perception thereof connected with – without limitations – composition and aesthetics of architecture, and its relation towards the surrounding area and nature. Creation of urban spaces has a significant effect on the process of shaping of the surrounding synergic architecture and synergic urban pedestrian public spaces, as well as creates a new spatial identity of the place and its architecture.

Through the presentation of two case studies this paper aims to engage the theoretical debate on the persistence of public space in the contemporary city, and focuses the attention on the way people practice these spaces and on the policies which are regulating their uses. Starting from the description of different ways in which some urban spaces in Rome (Italy) are used by two different communities of people, one mainly composed by immigrants and the other by young city users, and the diverse ways in which their different practices are seen and tolerated, the aim of this paper is to reflect on public spaces. Observing how city users practice public spaces, and analysing the way in which these practices are considered, are particularly exciting perspectives that can offer an interesting vision of the spatial and social reality of the city and of hegemonic relations which govern it.

Wenngleich die Ultra-Kultur im öffentlichen Raum in Gestalt von Graffitis, Tags und Aufklebern allgegenwärtig ist, blieb dieser Ausschnitt der Fußballfankultur linguistisch bislang weitegehend unerforscht. Im Rahmen der vorliegenden explorativen Untersuchung von Ultra-Stickern sollen die bisher unverbundenen Forschungsbereiche, linguistische Fußballfanforschung und Linguistic Landscape, nun zusammengeführt werden. Konkret geht die Untersuchung dabei der Frage nach, welche Inszenierungs- und Positionierungspraktiken sowie Strategien der Raumaneignung mit der Sehfläche Ultra-Aufkleber im öffentlichen Raum realisiert werden. Als Datengrundlage dienen Aufkleber, die im Zeitraum von November 2022 bis Februar 2023 in folgenden Städten fotografisch dokumentiert wurden: Dresden, Greifswald, Rostock und Lübeck. Mit Blick auf eine gegenstandsadäquate Datenerhebung und -analyse wurde auf ein methodisches Vorgehen zurückgegriffen, das die ethnographische Linguistic Landscape mit Leitprinzipien der Grounded Theory verkoppelt. Es kann gezeigt werden, dass diese Sehfläche für verschiedene Inszenierungs- und Positionierungspraktiken funktionalisiert wird. Diese reichen von der Entzeitlichung des Stadionerlebnisses mitsamt identitätsstiftender Kollektiverfahrungen über die Tradierung bestimmter Feindbilder bis hin zur Perpetuierung hegemonialer Männlichkeit und der Heroisierung des eigenen delinquenten Verhaltens respektive der eigenen Gewaltaffinität. Darüber hinaus kann eine interaktionale Dimension nachgewiesen werden, die sich darin offenbart, dass diese Sticker häufig in mehrstufige Aushandlungsprozesse um die territoriale Deutungshoheit eingebettet sind.
Although ultra culture in public spaces, in the form of graffiti, tags, and stickers, is ubiquitous, this particular aspect of football fan culture has remained linguistically unexplored. This exploratory investigation of ultra stickers aims to bring together the previously disconnected research areas of linguistic football fan research and linguistics. Specifically, the study examines which practices of staging, positioning, and spatial appropriation are realized through the visual medium of ultra stickers in public spaces. The data basis consists of stickers that were photographically documented in the following cities from November 2022 to February 2023: Dresden, Greifswald, Rostock, and Lübeck. In terms of appropriate data collection and analysis, a methodological approach combining ethnographic linguistic landscape with principles of grounded theory was utilized. It can be demonstrated that this visual medium is functionalized for various practices of staging and positioning. These range from the de-temporalization of the stadium experience, along with identity-building collective experiences, to the perpetuation of specific enemy images, and the perpetuation of hegemonic masculinity and the glorification of one’s own delinquent behavior or affinity for violence. Furthermore, an interactive dimension can be identified, which is revealed by the fact that these stickers are frequently embedded in multi-stage negotiation processes concerning territorial interpretation authority.

Szczecin's Old Town was destroyed during the Second World War. After the War, as a result of political decisions made at the time, the area's buildings were not rebuilt. In the effect of such actions, the city was left without an old-town market square – a sort of "heart of the city" – for close to five decades. This article discusses the reconstruction of Szczecin's Old Town and analyses the post-war history of the placement of individual public spaces within Szczecin, as an attempt to createa representative place within it, compensating the initial lack of an old-town market square. Because Szczecin's public spaces are characterised by considerable diversity, a typological analysis of these places has also been presented in the conclusions.
Podczas II wojny światowej starówka szczecińska uległa zniszczeniu. Po wojnie w wyniku podjętych decyzji politycznych nie odbudowano zabudowy staromiejskiej. W efekcie takich działań miasto było prawie przez 50 lat pozbawione rynku staromiejskiego – swoistego „serca miasta”. W artykule została w pierwszej kolejności omówiona odbudowa szczecińskiej starówki. Następnie zostały przeanalizowane powojenne dzieje lokowania poszczególnych przestrzeni publicznych w obrębie Szczecina jako próby stworzenia reprezentacyjnego miejsca w mieście rekompensującego początkowy brak rynku staromiejskiego. Ponieważ poszczególne przestrzenie publiczne Szczecina charakteryzują się sporą różnorodnością, została również w podsumowaniu przeprowadzona analiza typologiczna tych miejsc.

Participatory budgeting has become a vital tool in making urban spatial planning more community oriented. Examination of how participatory budgeting has evolved is a pertinent subject in theoretical research and in practical applications. Projects proposed by local communities improve the quality of life in cities and enhance benefits ofered by public spaces. The main goal of the paper is to present an overview and examine projects that transform public space, which have been implemented in selected Polish cities, namely in Katowice, Łódź, and Poznań within the framework of participatory budgeting exercise. Our research has demonstrated that in many cases participatory budgeting has acted as a catalyst of a variety of local bottom-up initiatives addressing public space in researched cities. It is thanks to the engaged and creative people at the local level that new functions which improve the quality of life are developed in cities.

Optimization of the urban structure, as well as modernization of city districts as a result of changes in the functional use of the urban territory, are currently coming to the fore among research topics for most cities in Eastern Europe. In the present article, as seen in the example of the Pidzamche district of the city of Lviv (Ukraine), attention was drawn to the need of revitalising the already urbanized, often postindustrial areas, which had lost their original function over time. The developmental impetus for this area may arrive by way of “green” public spaces project, which will affect the “quality of life” for the local residents, through: performing recreational and leisure functions, raising the aesthetic value of the place, as well as potentially constituting so-called “green corridors”, connecting individual parts of the discussed area.
Optymalizacja struktury miejskiej oraz modernizacja dzielnic w wyniku zmiany funkcjonalnego wykorzystania terytorium miasta staje się obecnie powszechnym tematem badań dla większości miast Wschodniej Europy. W artykule, na przykładzie dzielnicy Lwowa (Ukrainа)- Podzamcze zwrócono uwagę na potrzebę ożywienia terenów już zurbanizowanych, często poprzemysłowych, które z czasem zatraciły swoje funkcje. Impulsem rozwojowym dla tego obszaru może stać się projekt „zielonych” przestrzeni publicznych, które wpłyną na „jakość życia” mieszkańców dzielnicy, poprzez: pełnienie funkcji rekreacyjno-wypoczynkowych, podnoszenie waloru estetycznego miejsca jak również mogą stanowić tzw. „zielone korytarze” łączące poszczególne części omawianego obszaru.

Celem artykułu jest poznanie zależności pomiędzy miejskim festiwalem a przemianami struktury przestrzenno-funkcjonalnej i społecznej w mieście. Jako studium przypadku wskazano festiwal wykorzystujący światło do podkreślenia lokalnej tożsamości i dziedzictwa kulturowego – Light Move Festival w Łodzi. W opracowaniu wykorzystano informacje pozyskane z wywiadów prowadzonych z organizatorami festiwalu. Zaprezentowano dane zgromadzone na podstawie ankiety prowadzonej wśród uczestników festiwalu w 2016 roku. Wyniki pokazują społeczno-demograficzną strukturę ankietowanych, częstotliwość uczestnictwa oraz źródła informacji o wydarzeniu. Za pomocą mapy poglądowej zaprezentowano zależność pomiędzy przestrzenną organizacji festiwalu a założeniami Strategii przestrzennego rozwoju Łodzi2020+ w ramach programu szczegółowego „Atrakcyjne przestrzeniemiejskie 2020+”. Badanie wskazuje na możliwość wykorzystania festiwalu miejskiego jako lokalnego potencjału, wartościowego w budowaniu zrównoważonej polityki społecznej oraz przestrzennej. Wobec spadku liczby ludności w Łodzi, festiwal może wspierać promowanie miasta wśród potencjalnych nowych mieszkańców. Stwarza szanse na przetestowanie tymczasowych rozwiązań komunikacyjnych w przestrzeni oraz oswojenie z nimi mieszkańców. Mając na uwadze działania rewitalizacyjne prowadzone w mieście Łódź, można zadać pytanie: jaki wpływ na społeczność i przestrzeń miasta Łodzi ma festiwal światła – Light Move Festival?
The aim of this article is to examine the relationship between an urban festival and changes in the social and spatial-functional structures in a city. We analyze the Light Move Festival in Łódź as a case study, showing the use of light in emphasizing local identity and cultural heritage. Data for this study was collected by means of interviews with the festival’s organizers. We also present data gathered in a survey conducted among the festival’s participants in 2016. The results show the social-demographic structure of the respondents, frequency of participation and source of information. We present the correlation between the festival’s spatial organization and the guidelines of the “Attractive Urban Spaces 2020+ Program” (Strategie przestrzennegorozwoju Łodzi 2020+ w ramach programu szczegółowego „Atrakcyjneprzestrzenie miejskie 2020+”). The study presents the possibility to use an urban festival as a local potential for building sustainable social and spatial policy. With constant population outflow, such events may help to attract new residents and rebuild the city’s image. It also creates an opportunity to test temporary traffic solutions and to familiarize the residents with them. Considering the revitalization actions undertaken by the city of Łódź, one might ask a question: What kind of impact does The Light Move Festival have on the city of Łódź?

The article proposes a new, interspecies interpretation of Joanna Rajkowska’s Oxygenator. Read as what Anna Tsing calls latent commons and problematized through Chantal Mouffe’s concept of agonistic spaces, the canonical piece of public art is shown to have been an experimental site of more-than-human resurgence.

Opis:
Urban development is now becoming an increasingly complex challenge in global and local terms. The urban form is both, the element of the city's sense and the spatial framework of urban transformations. The morphology of the city is changing constantly with urban development. What can be continuously observed is, that “cities and their complexes grow spatially, forming large areas and absorbing new territories.” [2]. Urban morphology consists of built-up tissue and voids in-between, so the urban development is directly related to the volume and geometrical structure of open areas and public spaces. If the public life occurs in the space in-between, exploring tools of advanced urban analyses focused on morphology of open spaces seems to be important and actual. Spatial disposition and relation between public spaces define unique features of towns and contribute to the general perception of the sense of cities. However the problem is not as obvious as it may seem in practical terms. While the analysis of the built-up tissue of cities is relatively achievable, a measurable analysis of the space in-between is a considerable challenge due to the lack of defined geometry. This geometrical aspect of open spaces in cities is addressed in this article. The promising and powerful data environment enabling the development of such analytic tools are 3D virtual city models. The already introduced by the author analytic method called 3D-Negative (N3D) allows quantification and measurable analyses of the “invisible” geometry. The method is closely related to GIS and cityGML environments. The purpose of the article is to analyze regularities, spatial distribution and structure of public spaces in selected cities in area and linear means.

W artykule podjęto próbę przedstawienia możliwości transformacji urbanistycznej obszaru centrum małego, silnie doświadczonego zniszczeniami wojennymi, zachodniopomorskiego miasta Nowogard. Miasta, które w skutek działań wojennych w czasie II wojny światowej utraciło uwarunkowaną ponad 700-letnią historią strukturę urbanistyczną, i którego przedwojenna świetność tętniącego życiem obszaru centrum skupionego wokół Placu Wolności została zatarta powojennymi bezwzględnymi decyzjami planistycznymi. Przykładem i pretekstem rozważań nad transformacją obszaru i wykorzystaniem potencjału urbanistycznego starego Nowogardu jest koncepcja urbanistyczno-architektoniczna opracowana w roku 2010 przez autora artykułu, w trzyosobowym zespole projektowym. Rozważania dotyczą zagadnień głównie użytkowania przestrzeni publicznych oraz deformacji historycznego układu urbanistycznego.
The article presents some possibilities for urban transformation of city centre of small, strongly experienced by war damages, West-Pomeranian town of Nowogard. The city, which lost by the II World War, over 700 years old urban structure. The city, that pre-war magnificence of the area around main square was effaced by relentless post-war planning decisions. The pretext of considerations on urban transformation using old potential of Nowogard is urban concept completed in year 2010 by the author, in 3-persons project team. The considerations mainly refer to problems of public spaces and deformation of old historical urban structure.

This article explores new directions in urban design, which are based on an interactive dialogue between the artifact and the recipient and on the use of Artificial Intelligence tools within the project. With the use of case study method based on numerous project examples, the author indicates the value of spatial forms in urban interiors and introduces Artificial Intelligence - a futuristic design tool that allows to broaden forms of creative expression. She highlights current design problems, emphasizing the value of close cooperation between representatives of creative fields, for a higher quality of urban space design.
Artykuł ten bada nowe kierunki projektowania miejskiego, które opierają się na interaktywnym dialogu pomiędzy artefaktem a odbiorcą oraz na wykorzystaniu narzędzi Sztucznej Inteligencji w ramach projektu. Poprzez metodę studium przypadku opartą na licznych przykładach projektów, autorka wskazuje wartościowość form przestrzennych we wnętrzach miejskich oraz wprowadza w tematykę Sztucznej Inteligencji – futurystycznego narzędzia projektowego, które pozwala na poszerzenie form ekspresji twórczej, aby finalnie uwypuklić aktualne problemy projektowe, podkreślając wartość ścisłej współpracy pomiędzy przedstawicielami dziedzin kreatywnych, dla wyższej jakości projektowania przestrzeni miejskiej.
