    The concept of ecosystems services has become an important model for linking the functions of ecosystems to human welfare. The aim of this paper is to identify ecosystem services generated by green areas within the urban area, classify and value them. "Ecosystem services" refers to components of nature, directly enjoyed, consumed, or used to yield human well-being (Boyd, Banzhaf 2007). This definition advances the ability to use ecosystem services as a practical measurement tool.

    Opis:
    Ecosystem services are an important framework for linking ecological infrastructure to urban social infrastructure, which can benefit people and ecosystems. Designing, planning and managing of complex urban systems for health and wellbeing requires urban ecosystems that are both immune to systemic changes and managed sustainably. Literature review reveals that so far only several researchers have focused on urban ecosystem services (UES). The paper aims at assessing the importance of ecosystem services at the local level with an emphasis on urbanized areas. The basic conditions and barriers to the implementation of the concept of ecosystem services in the EU policy and local development have also been identified. The paper also presents solutions concerning the creation of integrated systems of providing such services by local governments and their monitoring.

Read as what Anna Tsing calls latent commons and problematized through Chantal Mouffe’s concept of agonistic spaces, the canonical piece of public art is shown to have been an experimental site of more-than-human resurgence.

    Na początku XXI wieku jedną z pilniejszych potrzeb jest opracowanie metod budowania zrównoważonych miast w kontekście szybkiego wzrostu liczby ich mieszkańców oraz zmian klimatycznych. Miasto to bardzo złożony system, w którym przeplatają się wszystkie problemy organizacji życia społecznego. Badacze większości dziedzin zastanawiają się, jak tworzyć, zmieniać lub budować szczęśliwe, zrównoważone, bezpieczne, przyjazne dla ludzi środowisko życia. Dlatego bardzo istotne stało się znalezienie klucza otwierającego świadomość ekologiczną polityków-decydentów. Tym kluczem jest ekonomia. Usługi, które Przyroda świadczy człowiekowi, zwane usługami ekosystemowymi, można także przeliczyć na wartość ekonomiczną – jest to konkret, który przemówił do wyobraźni. Poszukiwania zwiększenia wydajności usług ekosystemowych kierują badaczy i projektantów w nowe, dotychczas często marginalizowane w mieście obszary zieleni.
    At the beginning of the twenty-first century, one of the urgent needs is to develop methods to build sustainable cities in the context of the rapid growth in the number of their inhabitants and climate change. The city is a complex system in which there intertwine all the problems of social life organisation. Researchers are wondering how to create, modify or build a happy, sustainable, safe, people-friendly living environment. Therefore it is very important to find the key to unlock the environmental awareness of politicians – the key turns the economy. Nature provides services called ecosystem services, can also be converted into an economic value – it is a concrete appealing to the imagination. Studies to increase the efficiency of ecosystem services guide the researchers and designers to new, still often marginalized green areas.

    The presented study considers the impact of public expenditure related to land development on the potential of an urban green infrastructure to provide ecosystem services (ES). The study site (Szachty) is located in Poznań, the fifth largest city in Poland. In the article, we recognised the type of expenditure (permanent infrastructure and ongoing maintenance), the costs and the influence on ES (stimulating, weakening or no relevant). The study shows that the financial policy concerning the study area is focused on creating an infrastructure that enhances cultural ecosystem services (CES). However, the creation of recreational facilities weakens the potential of the area for supplying regulating services concerning maintaining nursery populations and habitats. The results highlight the need for scientific support for policymakers in understanding the synergies and trade-offs between ES, resulting from financial decisions. This is particularly important in the decision-making process in the areas of high natural value, in which full, long-term effects of the decisions may be barely visible and incomprehensible for the society. Showing the impact of financial decisions on the structure and level of ES may provide arguments supporting a more complex and high-quality social dialogue, including balancing the interests of various stakeholders.

    The subject of this article is social perception and the use of ES by visitors of the post-mining Szachty area in Poznan. The inspiration for the research was a growing interest in the site from citizens and decision makers. This is expressed by a more and more intensive use of the Szachty area by inhabitants, which is accompanied by increasing public spending on site arrangement. The main objectives of the study included: • identification of ES in the Szachty area used by citizens; • determination of the users satisfaction with the site’s arrangement; • provision of recommendations to decision-makers towards further strengthening of the ES potential of the site.
    Zagospodarowywanie obszarów poeksploatacyjnych w miastach stwarza możliwość kształtowania struktury i poziomu świadczeń ekosystemów. Zarządzanie takimi obszarami powinno uwzględniać potrzeby mieszkańców miast i służyć podniesieniu jakości ich życia. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie społecznej percepcji i wykorzystania świadczeń ekosystemowych Szacht w Poznaniu. W badaniach wykorzystano kwestionariusz internetowy, skierowany do użytkowników obszaru badań. Zebrane informacje pozwoliły określić cechy społeczno-ekonomiczne respondentów, przyczyny, dla których odwiedzają oni Szachty oraz poziom zadowolenia z obecnego zagospodarowania terenu. Uzyskane wyniki pozwoliły na sformułowanie rekomendacji dla decydentów w zakresie dalszego wzmacniania potencjału Szacht do dostarczania świadczeń.
