Warszawa doświadczyła odrodzenia gospodarczego po latach sowieckiej hegemonii i tragicznych wydarzeniach II wojny światowej. Stolica Polski ma dziś jedną z największych giełd w Europie i jest jedną z najszybciej rozwijających się gospodarek na kontynencie. Jednak Warszawę i jej okolice dotyka poważny brak kompleksowej strategii rozwoju – tylko 16% obszaru metropolii jest objęte planem zagospodarowania przestrzennego pomimo rosnącego zapotrzebowania na mieszkania, transport i infrastrukturę. Te braki w połączeniu z ogólną niechęcią społeczeństwa do odgórnego sposobu podejmowania decyzji i słabej polityki podatkowej samorządów lokalnych, zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do opodatkowania nieruchomości, spowodowały i prawdopodobnie nadal będą tworzyć problemy rozwojowe miasta. W artykule autor poddaje analizie i dokonuje oceny różnych wyzwań dla Warszawy, zachęcając do rozważenia przyjęcia amerykańskiego modelu podatkowego dla samorządów terytorialnych w celu stworzenia lepszych warunków do rozwoju urbanistycznego aglomeracji warszawskiej.

The paper discusses the problems connected with effects of revitalization. The authors concentrate on the differences resulting from ways as well as used base to carry out process of revitalization. The aim of the paper is assessment of the revitalized place carried out without analysis based on historical function of that place. To this end the authors used one of Wroclaw district conducted the desk research and field research. The authors used the method of observation and case studies. As a result, it can be said that revitalization process should be carried out with maintaining the historical function and the needs of inhabitants of revitalized places. The authors also refer to another example of revitalization process and compare it in the context of used ways and effects. According to the conducted research it can be said that the process of revitalization result from both legal principles and form awareness of local authorities in the context of quality of live and inhabitant needs.

Different forms of the game are analyzed: space as a theater, as a casino, as an area of conflict. The article discusses the spatial development of non-urban areas based on the use of local peat resources. Creating a methodology for the advanced spatial development of non-urban areas has peat resources based on multi-criteria optimisation of production and social infrastructures. The industrial and social infrastructure of the non-urban areas having reserves of peat, associated mineral, and industrial raw materials. Regularities, trends, and features of formation and functioning of the productive and social infrastructure of the natural and man-made complex in the development of peat reserves, associated mineral, and industrial raw materials. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to conduct interdisciplinary research and solve the following specific objectives: (1) the scientific justification of new technological processes and equipment for peat and mineral raw materials processing for obtaining new composite materials for multiple purposes; (2) the feature analysis of the use of local peat resources to provide the development of non-urban areas based on a set of scientific approaches; (3) the development of the methodology for project management of the natural and man-made complex to ensure multi-criteria optimisation of productive and social infrastructure. The example of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Yugra development selected results of confronting the existing “big grand” and national challenges through the mechanisms of rational use of local peat resources non-urban areas are illustrated. The results indicated that by 2030 there would be a 3.8-fold increase in mineral extraction and a 5.9-fold increase in processing industries.

The issue of the development of urban areas includes spatial phenomena concerning downtown areas. To preserve them in good condition requires constant action. This includes the creation of socially acceptable spaces which would stimulate development processes of central areas of cities. Czestochowa is an example of a city looking for right relations between modernity and the future. This requires delicate and precise decisions related to the introduction of center-forming functions within the historic city center. As a result, it has a chance to adapt to modern functional requirements and changing needs of the society. This multidirectional search aims at improving the value of urban environment and is a reflection of the relation between cultural, commercial and service functions. Selected stages of downtown development include both historical period and contemporary one. They are an attempt to illustrate the transformational activities that stimulate the process of the urban environment development at a given time.
Problematyka rozwoju terenów zurbanizowanych obejmuje zjawiska przestrzenne dotyczące terenów śródmiejskich. Utrzymanie ich w dobrej kondycji wymaga ciągłych działań. Obejmują one tworzenie przestrzeni społecznie akceptowanych, stymulujących proces rozwoju centralnych obszarów miast. Częstochowa stanowi przykład miasta szukającego właściwych relacji pomiędzy współczesnością a przyszłością. Wymaga to delikatnych i precyzyjnych decyzji związanych z wprowadzeniem funkcji centrotwórczych w obrębie historycznego centrum. Dzięki temu ma ono szansę na dostosowanie do współczesnych wymagań funkcjonalnych i zmieniających się potrzeb społecznych. Te wielokierunkowe poszukiwania zmierzają do podniesienia wartości środowiska zurbanizowanego i są odzwierciedleniem relacji pomiędzy funkcją kulturową, handlową i usługową. Wybrane fazy rozwoju śródmieścia obejmują zarówno okres historyczny, jak i współczesny. Stanowią próbę zobrazowania działań przekształceniowych stymulujących proces rozwoju środowiska miejskiego w danym czasie.

In today's world the general idea has arisen that tourism management should stand in accord with the sustainable development which is one of the priorities of the territorial policy of the European Union. This concept has been reflected in numerous European documents, which emphasize the necessity for the reinforcement of the regional identity and for the preservation of natural and cultural heritage. The main assumption of hereby article is the concept that tourism is one of the main modern anthropogenic factors, affecting the natural environment . The author notices that the „sentimental” tourism has remained stable for many years now. Such an approach to „sentimental” tourism shows the potential for the development especially in the case of Polish tourists to Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania, as these directions are connected with the territories previously inhabited by Poles, who left huge cultural and natural heritage behind. The aim of the article is to explore the topic of „sentimental” tourism in the context of sustainable development. This type of tourism is connected with trips directed towards searching the places for sightseeing, including the objects of tradition and history such as castles, churches, graveyards, mansions, statues and others. They all constitute the feeling of cultural identity. „Sentimental” tourism is important due to the fact that it evokes childhood memories and they convey the same meaning as they used to in the times of glory. The visitors possess various interests. Some are in search for the historical places, some others with those connected with literature, still others look for the places associated with their ancestors. Therefore it is so important to maintain these objects untouched in character which lingers in the consciousness of Polish visitors. „Sentimental” tourism also gives rise to the economic development of the region, ensuring work places for many tourist oriented services such as tourist information centres, historical monuments and buildings restoration and conservation institutions. It also contributes to the development of agriculture in the context of sustainability.

Opis:
The experience of creation and functioning of the urban cadastre as a structural element of modern highly developed state abroad is analyzed. It is found out that in the European Union virtually absent analogues of the urban cadastre in our understanding. However, there are widespread cadastral systems, that solve problems of registration and storage of information on real property, as well as planning restrictions and easements. In the states of the former Soviet Union (especially the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Belarus) town-planning cadastre is developed in forms that are close to the Ukrainian model. Since the formation of the urban cadastre system in Ukraine is in its infancy, so there is a possibility of using the experience of foreign countries with their achievements and mistakes that can be avoided.

Gniezno jest miastem średniej wielkości położonym w zachodniej części Polski. Wykazuje silną potrzebę zmian, do których należy podejść kompleksowo przez wprowadzanie programów rewitalizacji. Biorąc pod uwagę udane przykłady przeprowadzonych programów rewitalizacji w niemieckim mieście Lipsk autor poszukuje szansy dla miasta Gniezna i zaadaptowania sprawdzonych już metod. Praca zawiera analizę literatury dotyczącej rewitalizacji w Niemczech. Ta część ułatwi przygotowanie syntezy porównawczej, wykonanie analiz przyczynowych i logicznych, które doprowadzą autora do podsumowania i stworzenia najlepszej metody rewitalizacji dla miasta Gniezna w dalszej części swojej pracy badawczej. Autor, analizując historię Niemiec, zauważył wiele wspólnych cech z miastami polskimi. Jednak na ich losach zaważyło różnorodne podejście do tematu rewitalizacji po zniszczeniach wojennych. Dzisiaj widać to jak znacznie różnią się od siebie miasta rozdzielone jedynie linią granicy geograficznej. Autor zauważa możliwości zaadaptowania sprawdzonych niemieckich metod rewitalizacji na ziemiach polskich.
Gniezno is a medium-sized city located in the western part of Poland. The city has a strong need for change, which needs to be addressed comprehensively by the introduction of revitalization programs. Taking into account the successful examples of revitalization programs carried out in the German city of Leipzig the author looks for a chance for the city of Gniezno and adopting proven methods. The work will consist of an analysis of literature on revitalization in Germany. This part will facilitate the preparation of comparative synthesis, the execution of causal and logical analyzes, which will lead the author to summarize and create the best method of revitalization for the city of Gniezno in the further progress of his research work. By analyzing the history of Germany, he noticed many common features with Polish cities. However, their fate was influenced by a variety of approaches to revitalization after the war. Today we can see how much different cities are separated by only a line of geographical boundaries. The author notes the possibility of adapting the proven German methods of revitalization to the Polish lands.

Objectives: The objective of this article is to identify the reasons for the emergence of urban sprawl in Poland, with particular reference to selected medium-sized cities in the Małopolska voivodeship, located at different distances from Kraków. The second objective of this article is to indicate the awareness of the authorities of these cities of the influence of the core city (Kraków) and their efforts to use this phenomenon for their own developmental goals. Research Design & Methods: Documents defining the socio-economic development policies of Limanowa, Niepołomic and Nowy Targ were used for the analysis, as well as selected quantitative data indicating the direction and strength of the urban sprawl. An important element of this article is an indication of the consequences of this phenomenon and remedies for public administration of various levels in Poland. The model of gravitational potential was utilised as the research basis. Contribution / Value Added: As an added value, an attempt should be made to indicate the relation between the values of indicators and the policy of local development (actions of local authorities to eliminate negative effects of the urban sprawl phenomenon). Implications / Recommendations: Although the urban sprawl phenomenon is involuntary (and ubiquitous), it can be controlled, and the lack of actions to control consequences will make them even more acute. Solutions should be systemic in nature and implemented at the level of central administration in Poland, but the attitude of local authorities is also important. In addition, the influence of Kraków on its functional surroundings has a different strength and character. From the point of view of local authorities, it is important to diagnose strength and character (positive or negative) in order to properly choose the direction of the given city’s development policy.

One vibrant topic within the emerging scholarship around geographies of tourism development and planning concerns that of tourism and local economic development planning. Across many countries tourism is a core base for planning of place-based local economic development programmes. In post-apartheid South Africa the country's leading cities have promoted tourism as part of economic development programming. This article examines planning for South Africa's aerotropolis around the O.R. Tambo International Airport in Ekurhuleni, which is adjacent to Johannesburg. Under circumstances of economic distress and the need for new sources of local job creation Ekurhuleni is undertaking planning for tourism development through leveraging and alignment to aerotropolis planning. The nexus of aerotropolis and urban tourism planning is analysed. Arguably, the strengthening of tourism in Ekurhuleni offers the potential for contributing towards inclusive development goals.
