    The article entitled " The list of doctoral theses of the Faculty of Theology at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń in the years 2003-2010" is a summary of doctoral theses stored in the University Archive. The list includes the following elements: the name and surname of the author, the information on whether the author is a lay person or a cleric one, the title of the thesis, the name of the supervisor, the names of the reviewers, the date of defence, the number of pages and the archival reference number. Additionally, footnotes include the information about the works which were published, presenting their full bibliographic description.

    Publikacja stanowi pokłosie międzynarodowej konferencji naukowej Archiwa w państwach totalitarnych w Europie Środkowej i Wschodniej, która odbyła się w Lublinie i Sandomierzu w dniach 5-7 września 2018 roku. Wzięli w niej udział liczni badacze ze wspomnianej części Europy, którzy pochylili się nad zagadnieniem wpływu partii komunistycznej i organów władzy państwowej na działania archiwalne, m.in. na obsadę stanowisk dyrektorów archiwów państwowych, zaangażowanie instytucji w szerzeniu propagandy komunistycznej itp. Książka jest pierwszym w Polsce tego typu opracowaniem problematyki politycznego kontekstu działania archiwów i stanowi zachętę do podjęcia dalszych badań nad tym zagadnieniem. Dodatkowym bodźcem może być dorobek niemieckich naukowców, którzy przeanalizowali funkcjonowanie archiwów w Niemieckiej Republice Demokratycznej i ukazali nowe pola badawcze.

    Artykuł podejmuje kwestię roli rękopisów i innych dokumentów archiwalnych jako przed-tekstów utworów literackich. Stawia pytanie o to, w jakiej perspektywie badawczej ich wykorzystanie w badaniach literaturoznawczych może okazać się najowocniejsze. Zagadnienie to zostało przedstawione na przykładzie protokołu egzaminacyjnego zawierającego pytania zadane Adamowi Mickiewiczowi podczas egzaminu dyplomowego na Uniwersytecie Wileńskim. Na podstawie innych źródeł archiwalnych oraz drukowanych autorka podejmuje próbę rekonstrukcji pożądanych odpowiedzi na zadane pytania, a następnie wskazuje na korzyści, które mogą płynąć z uwzględnienia ich w analizie utworów literackich Mickiewicza.
    The article analyses manuscripts and other archival documents as pre-texts of literary texts, with a view to demonstrating how they may be used most effectively in literary studies. An examination report with questions that Adam Mickiewicz was asked during his diploma examination at Vilnius University is discussed. The author analyses other archival and printed sources as well, trying to reconstruct the desired answers to the questions, and then outlines the benefits of employing such an archival procedure in the analysis of Mickiewicz’s works.

    The article contains a list of bachelor’s and master’s theses at the Faculty of Theology of  Nicolaus Copernicus University stored in the University Archive. The list covers the years 2001-2010. The theses are arranged in chronological and alphabetical order by the annual date of the final exam and the name of author's work in a given year. The information included in the catalogue comes from the UsosWeb system. Additionally, this article presents the tables; the first one contains data on the number of graduated students along with their supervisors, and the other one the number of the written works in different years. As the catalogue is an archival aid, the author also included currently valid rules for the use of theses in the Archive of  Nicolaus Copernicus University.

    The article is devoted to the creation and the first period of activity of archive of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw. The Catholic Academy in Warsaw archived its documentation in particular registry offices. The change took place with the creation of the Archive of UKSW in 2000. The article describes the circumstances of the creation of the Archive and its legał foundation. It also presents the development of the position of the Archive in the university structure in view of university legał acts and practice. The current activity of the archives is also discussed, the causes of the initial problems are analysed and the development perspective is indicated.

    Archiwum Uniwersytetu Stefana Batorego w Wilnie jest jednym z licznych polskich zespołów archiwalnych dotyczących okresu dwudziestolecia międzywojennego, które znajdują się w Litewskim Centralnym Archiwum Państwowym w Wilnie. I jednym z nielicznych, który zachował się niemal w całości. Przez wiele lat kolekcję uważano za zaginioną. Po 1990 r. zaczęto ją wykorzystywać do badań nad historią nauki w Wilnie. Najgłębiej zbiór jest eksploatowany przez polsko-litewski zespół badaczy przygotowujących monografię USB na 2019 r. Brak zainteresowania państwa polskiego losami archiwum spowodował, że pomimo przygotowanych projektów badawczych pozostaje ono nieuporządkowane i nieopracowane, a w dużej części wymaga natychmiastowej interwencji konserwatorskiej. Istnieje obawa, że w niedalekiej przyszłości zasób ten – po opracowaniu w języku litewskim – będzie trudno dostępny dla wielu badaczy z Polski.
    Along with liquidation of the Stephanus Bathoreus University (SBU) in Vilnius exe- cuted by Lithuanian authorities in December 1939 there was also closed entire files’ documentation connected with two decades of the University activity. The files were listed, wrapped up, tied up with strings and deposited in the University’s cellar. And that is how they were stored throughout entire time of the World War II. Has the Polish government tried to regain them – we do not know. After the war entire documentation was transported to the archive of Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic. Part of the personal files were separated and withdrawn from the set. Their fate is not clear. The documentation of the archive was not ordered and access to it was limited. It was used only by Soviet researchers. Some certified copies were also prepared e.g. for the former SBU employees and sparse inquiries of Polish archivists were answered. Not sooner than after Lithuania regained its independence in the beginning of the 90ties the SBU archive was „discovered” for the sake of the research. Researchers from Poland have drawn attention to its research value and started to use it in their research on history of Polish science in the 20th century. This research interest caused that Lithuanian archival authorities started efforts directed on ordering and describing an entire archival set, also allowing for materials’ copying and publishing. The description is done in Lithuanian language, simultaneously there is prepared research monograph on SBU.

    Andrzej Panufnik (1914-1991) opuścił Polskę w lipcu 1954 r. z przyczyn politycznych i osiadł w Wielkiej Brytanii. Po śmierci kompozytora, jego żona, Camilla, przekazała kolekcję rękopisów muzycznych męża do zbiorów londyńskiej British Library, gdzie weszły w skład specjalnie wydzielonej Panufnik Collection. Cała reszta spuścizny pozostała w domu, w Twickenham pod Londynem, gdzie twórca mieszkał od 1963 r. W 2023 r. Lady Panufnik, pozostająca w stałym kontakcie z Beatą Bolesławską-Lewandowską, autorką licznych prac o Panufniku, zaangażowaną w sprawę zabezpieczenia spuścizny twórcy, zgodziła się przekazać archiwalia męża do Archiwum Kompozytorów Polskich, działającego w ramach Gabinetu Zbiorów Muzycznych Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej w Warszawie.
    Andrzej Panufnik (1914-1991) left Poland in July 1954 for political reasons and settled in the United Kingdom. After the composer's death, his wife, Camilla, donated her husband's collection of musical manuscripts to the collection of the British Library, where they became part of a specially designated Panufnik Collection. All the rest of the legacy remained at home, in Twickenham near London, where the composer had lived since 1963. In 2023 Lady Panufnik, who has been in constant contact with Beata Boleslawska-Lewandowska, author of numerous works on Panufnik and committed to securing the artist's legacy, agreed to donate her husband's archives to the Polish Composers Archive, operating within the Music Collections Cabinet of the University of Warsaw Library.

    Opis:
    Modern chancery of case records is run using the chancery system based on registering particular cases. This system is built on three important chancery-archive norms, which include chancery instructions, a uniform list of records (which is often the annex to chancery instructions) and archival instructions. Without these regulations the smooth functioning of a modern chancery and an institutional archive (records repository) is almost impossible. Chancery instructions are the ones which play an important role, as their primary function is to establish the rules and procedures for performing chancery tasks in the institution and to standardize the handling of documentation produced by the institution. The proper design of this normative undoubtedly improves the functioning of institutions, optimizes document management processes, contributes to rationalization and improvement of documents flow within the organization, and streamlines and accelerates the process of performing things. This norm is also needed in higher education, especially at universities. Chancery of the university (understood as a whole organizational unit performing formal and substantive chancery tasks), due to extensive structure of such an institution, is heavily fragmented. It is a legal requirement to have properly constructed chancery instructions (but also other norms) in the case of state universities. In the case of the Catholic University of Lublin John Paul II there is no legal coercion, but certainly the advantages of using these norms were the basis for its introduction by the Rector of the Catholic University 21 December 2001. The article presents the comparison of the introduced chancery instructions  with similar norms in two Polish universities, namely Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, and the University of Silesia. The most important finding of this comparison is recognition of the necessity of issuing new chancery regulations at the Catholic University of Lublin.

    W artykule omówiono unikalne (przynajmniej w Stanach Zjednoczonych) polonika (książki, efemera, archiwalia) w kolekcji Biblioteki Uniwersytetu Stanforda w Kalifornii oraz trudności związane z rozwojem, opracowaniem i konserwacją materiałów polskich w amerykańskiej bibliotece akademickiej, w tym m.in. preferowanie uzupełniania zbiorów w języku rosyjskim, brak zalinkowanych rekordów podobnych kolekcji lub stan fizyczny poloników wymagających zabiegów konserwatorskich. W pierwszej części przedstawiono kolekcje związane z polską emigracją, m.in. efemera wydane w Paryżu w latach 1830-1840, oraz z literaturą emigracyjną i rynkiem wydawniczym w USA, Europie i Polsce po II wojnie światowej: Archiwum Zygmunta Haupta, Kolekcję listów Zdzisława Ruszkowskiego oraz Archiwum Wydawnictwa Rój. W drugiej części artykułu omówiono nowsze kolekcje jako obiekty mogące potencjalnie zainteresować badaczy kultury i historii polskiej, takie jak: seria fotografii Allena Ginsburga (1926-1997), ikony poezji amerykańskiej, przedstawiciela tzw. Beat Generation, z jego pobytu w Polsce (1986, 1993) oraz maszynopis tekstu Agnieszki Holland o stanie polskiego kina z 1984 r. z jej odręcznymi poprawkami.
    This paper discusses unique (at least in the United States) Polish resources in the collections of the Stanford University Libraries, including books, ephemeral publications, documents and the difficulties involved with the collection development, processing and conservation of Polish materials in American academic libraries. The first part of the presentation addresses collections related to émigré subject, in particular ephmera published by the Polish émigré community in Paris in the years 1830-1840 and related to the post-war émigré literature and the publishing market in the United States, Europe and Poland: the Zygmunt Haupt Archive, the Zdzisław Ruszkowski Correspondence collection, and the Roy Publishers Archive. In the second part of the presentation other examples of items of potential interest to researchers of Polish history and culture are discussed, including: a series of photographs by Allen Ginsburg (1926-1997), an icon of American poetry and a foremost representative of the so-called Beat Generation, from his travels in Poland (1986, 1993) and the typescript of a text by film director Agnieszka Holland about the state of Polish cinema in 1984, with corrections in her own writing.

Poruszono zagadnienia związane z bibliotekarstwem norweskim (kształcenie bibliotekarzy, organizacje bibliotekarskie, wypożyczenia międzybiblioteczne, czytelnictwo), a także przedstawiono projekt Biblioteki Końca Świata.
    This article discusses the operation of Norwegian libraries on the example of the National Library in Oslo, the Bergen University Library, and the Stavanger Public Library. A modern building of the Public Library in Vennesla is presented. Norwegian librarianship issues (librarians’ education, librarians’ associations, interlibrary loan, reading), as well as the Doomsday Library project are discussed.

    The article presents documentation, stored in the Archive of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, concerning registration and conferment procedure for a doctorate and habilitation in historical and social sciences: history of the Church, history of church art, patrology, Christian archaeology, musicology, sociology of religion, Catholic social teaching and social ethics at the Faculty of Theology of Warsaw Theological Academy in the years 1954-1987. These records are part of the historical fonds (archival category: A) and are a valuable source on the history of educating academic staff at Warsaw Theological Academy. The article discusses the origins of documentation, including 69 archival units referring to registration and conferment procedure for a doctorate and 14 archival units concerning habilitation. The attached tables show the most important elements of each archival unit such as a reference number, the names of PHD students and those who obtained habilitation, their supervisors and reviewers, topics and the size of their works, the name of the specialty and the date of the most important resolutions concerning the procedure awarding a degree.

    W Archiwum Centrum Dokumentacji Zsyłek, Wypędzeń i Przesiedleń Uniwersytetu Pedagogicznego w Krakowie gromadzone są zbiory związane z szeroko pojętymi przymusowymi migracjami obywateli polskich. Zbiory te w większości nie mają charakteru instytucjonalnego, ale są związane z losami konkretnych osób lub rodzin, które doświadczyły zsyłek, wypędzeń i przesiedleń. Znaczna część zbiorów dotyczy polskich Sybiraków. Cennym i wartościowym materiałem do badań ich losów są zgromadzone w archiwum źródła epistolarne (które ze względu na zewnętrzną formę można podzielić na trzy grupy: listy, kartki pocztowe i grypsy). Przede wszystkim są one „materiałem dowodowym” i swego rodzaju potwierdzeniem, że konkretne osoby zostały wywiezione do Związku Sowieckiego. Ponadto umożliwiają prześledzenie drogi, którą przebyli Sybiracy oraz poznanie ich losów w różnych okresach czasu i miejscach - od okresu przedwojennego i życia na Kresach II RP, przez pobyt na zesłaniu, opuszczenie Związku Sowieckiego, życie w polskich osiedlach w Afryce, Indiach, w Nowej Zelandii, przyjazd i życie w Wielkiej Brytanii, czy Polsce. Co więcej, dają informacje o realiach życia codziennego, warunkach bytowych, stosunkach społecznych np. w przedwojennej Polsce, na zesłaniu w ZSRS lub w Afryce czy Indiach w latach czterdziestych XX w. W końcu mogą stanowić przyczynek do analizowania postaw i zachowań, które prezentowali polscy zesłańcy w kryzysowych sytuacjach.
    The Archive of the Centre for Documentation of Deportations, Expulsions and Resettlement of the Pedagogical University of Kraków collects the records concerning the broadly defined forced migrations of the Polish citizens. Most of these records do not have an institutional character but are rather linked to particular individuals or families affected by the deportations, expulsions and resettlements. The largest part of the records concerns the so-called Polish 'Sybiraks', or deportees to Siberia, including the epistolary materials, which, based on their external form, can be divided into three groups: letters, postcards and secret messages smuggled in or out of prisons. In the first place, these sources are the evidence and confirmation that particular individuals were deported to the Soviet Union. Furthermore, they allow us to trace the way the Sybiraks moved, and to reveal their fortunes at different times and places: from the interwar period and life at the 'Kresy' (Eastern Borderlands) of the Second Polish Republic, through the exile in the Soviet Union, their rescue and life at the Polish settlements in Africa, India and New Zealand, to the arrival and life in the United Kingdom or Poland. In addition, these records provide us with some information on the realities of their everyday life, conditions of existence and social relations in the different settings. Lastly, the sources might contribute to the analysis of the attitudes and behaviour of the Polish deportees in emergency situations.
