Opis:
The stabilization problem for a structural acoustic model is considered. The model under consideration is that of acoustic cavity (wave equation) coupled at the interface with a flexible wall (plate equation) which accounts for thermal effects. It is shown that frictional, nonlinear damping applied at the boundary of the acoustic chamber provides the uniform decay rates for the energy function of the overall structure. The main novelty of this result, with respect to the literature, is that the uniform stability for the model is established without assuming any mechanical damping the wall.

In this paper we deal with the problem of uniform exponential stabilization for a class of distributed bilinear parabolic systems with time delay in a Hilbert space by means of a bounded feedback control. The uniform exponential stabilization problem of such a system reduces to stabilizing only its projection on a suitable finite dimensional subspace. Furthermore, the stabilizing feedback control depends only on the state projection on the finite dimensional subspace. An explicit decay rate estimate of the stabilized state is given provided that a non-standard weaker observability condition is satisfied. Illustrative examples for partial functional differential equations are displayed.

Opis:
Ultimate state boundedness for underactuated spacecraft subject to large non-matched disturbances is attained. First, non-smooth time-invariant state feedback control laws that make the origin asymptotically stable are obtained. Then, the controller is extended to make the closed-loop system globally uniformly ultimately bounded under the following conditions: 1) the disturbances acting on the directly actuated states are known and 2) the disturbance acting on the unactuated state is bounded and its profile need not be known. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to verify the analytical results. A large step disturbance is considered, and it is shown that the proposed controller makes the closed-loop system globally uniformly ultimately bounded. The proposed method is rather general and can be extended to other systems.

The problem of exponential decay for solutions of porous-thermoelasticity system, when time t ->∞ is studied. For sufficiently small values of parameter of intensity of elasticity-porosity interactions the exponential decaying is established. The idea of compact decoupling is applied for the system of equations. Exponential decay is proved first for the simpler decoupled system, then the prop erty is derived for the original system.

Opis:
Affine discrete-time control periodic systems are considered. The problem of global asymptotic stabilization of the zero equilibrium of the closed-loop system by state feedback is studied. It is assumed that the free dynamic system has the Lyapunov stable zero equilibrium. The method for constructing a damping control is extended from time-invariant systems to time varying periodic affine discrete-time systems. By using this approach, sufficient conditions for uniform global asymptotic stabilization for those systems are obtained. Examples of using the obtained results are presented.

As part of transportation systems, culverts are subjected to complex load conditions such as earth pressure and traffic live load. In addition, culverts may experience differential settlement of underlying soils, hydrostatic load, and aggradation/degradation scour. Combinations of these effects may cause crack formation or even structural failure. The objective of this paper is to study factors that lead to crack formation in the culvert-wing wall connection immediately after construction. Finite element models (FE) with Plaxis 3D software were used to analyze the stress distribution along the wing wall connection under different load scenarios and geometries. Mohr-Coulomb (MC) and Hardening soil (HS) non-linear material models were utilized. Tension stresses were occurred at the top of the wing wall as well as out of plane rotation away from the culvert, contributing to cracks as observed in the field.
