The study shows the direct relationship between the temperature field and the parallel changes that are taking place in backscattered ultrasonic signals from the breast tissue in vivo when heated to the temperature of approximately 42 deg. C. The non-uniform temperature field inside the heating tissue was determined by the numerical model using FEM. It is shown that the spatial distribution of intensities of the backscattered signals coincides with the temperature distribution field predicted by the numerical model in some areas. The result indicates the possibility of the indirect measurement of the temperature rise in the breast tissue in vivo by measuring the intensity variations of the ultrasound echo.

We rigorously prove that a non-elliptical inhomogeneity continues to permit an internal uniform stress field despite the presence of a nearby non-circular Eshelby inclusion undergoing uniform anti-plane eigenstrains when the surrounding matrix is subjected to uniform remote anti-plane stresses. Here, we adopt a specific representation of the non-circular Eshelby inclusion as a Booth’s lemniscate inclusion. Our analysis indicates that the internal uniform stress field inside the non-elliptical inhomogeneity is independent of the existence of the Booth’s lemniscate inclusion whereas the non-elliptical shape of the inhomogeneity is attributed entirely to its presence. Representative numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method of general solution.

Opis:
An original analytical method is proposed for modeling asymmetric rolling (ASR) of metal sheet. It is based on a uniform strain field depending on a single optimization parameter, viz. the entry velocity of the sheet. The shear and normal strains associated with an ASR pass are derived analytically. Moreover, it is shown that the entry velocity almost coincides with the outer linear velocity of the slower roll, as far as ASR is sufficiently asymmetric. In that case, closed form formulae are available for the main rolling parameters such as the overall power dissipated and the two rolling torques. These results can be straighforwardly used for practical applications.
Zaproponowano oryginalną metodę analityczną do modelowania asymetrycznego walcowania blachy. Model jest oparty na jednolitym obszarze odkształcenia zależnym od jednego parametru optymalizacji tj. prędkości wejścia arkusza. Naprężenia ścinanające i normalne związane z przebiegiem asymetrycznego walcowania wyprowadzone są analitycznie. Co więcej pokazano, że prędkość wejścia niemal zbiega się z zewnętrzną prędkością liniową wolniejszego walca, o ile asymetryczne walcowanie jest wystarczająco asymetryczne. W takim przypadku zamknięte równania są dostępne dla głównych parametrów walcowania takich jak całkowita moc rozpraszania i dwa momenty obrotowe walcowania. Wyniki te mogą być bezpośrednio wykorzystywane do zastosowań praktycznych.

Using conformal mapping techniques, analytic continuation and the theory of Cauchy singular integral equations, we prove that a non-parabolic open inhomogeneity embedded in an elastic matrix subjected to a uniform remote anti-plane stress nevertheless admits an internal uniform stress field despite the presence of a finite mode III crack in its vicinity. Our analysis indicates that: (i) the internal uniform stress field is independent of the specific shape of the inhomogeneity and the presence of the finite crack; (ii) the existence of the finite crack plays a key role in the non-parabolic open shape of the inhomogeneity and in the non-uniform stresses in the surrounding matrix; (iii) the two-term asymptotic expansion at infinity of the stress field in the matrix is independent of the presence of the finite crack. Detailed numerical results are presented to demonstrate the proposed theory.

Opis:
Diagnostics and decomposition of atmospheric disturbances in a planar flow are considered in this work. The study examines a situation in which the stationary equilibrium temperature of a gas may depend on the vertical coordinate due to external forces. The relations connecting perturbations are analytically established. These perturbations specify acoustic and entropy modes in an arbitrary stratified gas affected by a constant mass force. The diagnostic relations link acoustic and entropy modes, and they are independent on time. Hence, they provide an ability to decompose the total vector of perturbations into acoustic and non-acoustic (entropy) parts, and to establish the distribution of energy between the sound and entropy modes, uniquely at any instant. The total energy of a flow is hence determined in its parts which are connected with acoustic and entropy modes. The examples presented in this work consider the equilibrium temperature of a gas, which linearly depends on the vertical coordinate. Individual profiles of acoustic and entropy parts for some impulses are illustrated with plots.

Complex structures used in various engineering applications are made up of simple structural members like beams, plates and shells. The fundamental frequency is absolutely essential in determining the response of these structural elements subjected to the dynamic loads. However, for short beams, one has to consider the effect of shear deformation and rotary inertia in order to evaluate their fundamental linear frequencies. In this paper, the authors developed a Coupled Displacement Field method where the number of undetermined coefficients 2n existing in the classical Rayleigh-Ritz method are reduced to n, which significantly simplifies the procedure to obtain the analytical solution. This is accomplished by using a coupling equation derived from the static equilibrium of the shear flexible structural element. In this paper, the free vibration behaviour in terms of slenderness ratio and foundation parameters have been derived for the most practically used shear flexible uniform Timoshenko Hinged-Hinged, Clamped-Clamped beams resting on Pasternak foundation. The findings obtained by the present Coupled Displacement Field Method are compared with the existing literature wherever possible and the agreement is good.

Opis:
The work deals with the heat analysis of generalized Burgers nanofluid over a stretching sheet. The Rosseland approximation is used to model the non-linear thermal radiation and incorporated non-uniform heat source/sink effect. The governing equations reduced to a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations under considering the suitable similarity transformations. The obtained ordinary differential equations equations are solved numerically by Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg order method. The effect of important parameters on velocity, temperature and concentration distributions are analyzed and discussed through the graphs. It reveals that temperature increases with the increase of radiation and heat source/sink parameter.
