This paper provides a complete characterization of solvability of the problem of structural model matching by output feedback in linear impulsive systems with nonuniformly spaced state jumps. Namely, given a linear impulsive plant and a linear impulsive model, both subject to sequences of state jumps which are assumed to be simultaneous and measurable, the problem consists in finding a linear impulsive compensator that achieves exact matching between the respective forced responses of the linear impulsive plant and of the linear impulsive model, by means of a dynamic feedback of the plant output, for all the admissible input functions and for all the admissible sequences of jump times. The solution of the stated problem is achieved by reducing it to an equivalent problem of structural disturbance decoupling by dynamic feedforward. Indeed, this latter problem is formulated for the so-called extended linear impulsive system, which consists of a suitable connection between the given plant and a modified model. A necessary and sufficient condition for the solution of the structural disturbance decoupling problem is first shown. The proof of sufficiency is constructive, since it is based on the synthesis of the compensator that solves the problem. The proof of necessity is based on the definition and the geometric properties of the unobservable subspace of a linear impulsive system subject to unequally spaced state jumps. Finally, the equivalence between the two structural problems is formally established and proven.

We survey the literature on well-posed linear systems, which has been an area of rapid development in recent years. We examine the particular subclass of conservative systems and its connections to scattering theory. We study some transformations of well-posed systems, namely duality and time-flow inversion, and their effect on the transfer function and the generating operators. We describe a simple way to generate conservative systems via a second-order differential equation in a Hilbert space. We give results about the stability, controllability and observability of such conservative systems and illustrate these with a system modeling a controlled beam.

This paper proposes a variance upper bound based interval Kalman filter that enhances the interval Kalman filter based on the same principle proposed by Tran et al. (2017) for uncertain discrete time linear models. The systems under consideration are subject to bounded parameter uncertainties not only in the state and observation matrices, but also in the covariance matrices of the Gaussian noises. By using the spectral decomposition of a symmetric matrix and by optimizing the gain matrix of the proposed filter, we lower the minimal upper bound on the state estimation error covariance for all admissible uncertainties. This paper contributes with an improved algorithm that provides a less conservative error covariance upper bound than the approach proposed by Tran et al. (2017). The state estimates are determined using interval analysis in order to enclose the set of all possible solutions of the classical Kalman filter consistent with the uncertainties.

A geometric interpretation of invariant zeros of MIMO LTI discrete-time systems is provided. The zeros are treated as the triples: complex number, state zero direction, input zero direction. Such a treatment is strictly connected with the output zeroing problem and in that spirit the zeros can be easily interpreted even in the degenerate case (i.e. when each complex number constitutes an invariant zero). Simply, in the degenerate case, to each complex number we can assign an appropriate real initial condition and an appropriate real input sequence which produce a non-trivial solution to the state equation and a zero system response. Clearly, when zeros are treated merely as complex numbers, such an interpretation is impossible. The proposed definition of invariant zeros is compared with other commonly known definitions. It is shown that each Smith zero of the system matrix is also an invariant zero in the sense of the definition adopted in the paper. On the other hand, simple numerical examples show that the considered definition of invariant zeros and the Davison-Wang definition are not comparable. The output-zeroing problem for systems decouplable by state feedback is also described.

The paper considers a problem of optimal control of a linear system with the parameters dependent on the states of a Markov chain. The cost criterion is quadratic in the controls and states of the system. The criterion parameters also depend on the states of the Markov chain. Two models of observation of the Markov chain are adopted - delay for one step and no delay. It is shown that under appopriate mean square detectability and stabilizability conditions the infinite horizon optimal control problem for the general case of Markovian jump linear quadratic systems has a unigue mean square stabilizing solution. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given to determine if a system is mean square stabilizable.

The following is a short survey of the notion of a well-posed linear system. We start by describing the most basic concepts, proceed to discuss dissipative and conservative systems, and finally introduce J-energy-preserving systems, i.e., systems that preserve energy with respect to some generalized inner products (possibly semi-definite or indefinite) in the input, state and output spaces. The class of well-posed linear systems contains most linear time-independent distributed parameter systems: internal or boundary control of PDE's, integral equations, delay equations, etc. These systems have existed in an implicit form in the mathematics literature for a long time, and they are closely connected to the scattering theory by Lax and Phillips and to the model theory by Sz.-Nagy and Foias. The theory has been developed independently by many different schools, and it is only recently that these different approaches have begun to converge. One of the most interesting objects of the present study is the Riccati equation theory for this class of infinite-dimensional systems (H2- and Hinfty-theories).

Przedstawiono i porównano wykresy mocy strat dwóch układów hydraulicznych pracujących przy tych samych parametrach prędkości i obciążenia siłownika, lecz różniących się strukturą oraz możliwością oszczędności energii.
In this article two hydrostatic systems with a throttling steering fed by a constant capacity pump were compared. The subject matter connected with an energy losses of hydrostatic systems with hydraulic linear motors controlled by proportional directional valve was presented. Diagrams of power losses of two hydraulic systems worked at the same parameters of a speed and a load of hydraulic linear motor, which were different due to structure and ability of an energy saving, were presented and were compared.

Opis:
A control system with a proportional directional throttling control valve or a directional control servo valve, controlling a cylinder (linear hydraulic motor) is used in the ship steering gear drive, in the controllable pitch propeller control, in the variable capacity pump control system for hydraulic deck equipment motors or fixed pitch propellers in small ships (for example ferries). Energy savings in a constant capacity pump operation can be achieved by means of overflow valve controlled by the oil outlet pressure between the directional throttling control valve and the cylinder. Although structural volumetric losses cannot be eliminated in such a system, but it is possible to reduce considerably structural pressure losses, mechanical losses and volumetric losses in the pump, and mechanical losses in the cylinder too. The paper discusses these energy savings using an earlier developed by Paszota mathematical model of losses in elements, the energy efficiency of the system and the operating range of the cylinder. The paper also presents a comparison of the energy behavior of two widespread structures of hydrostatic systems: a standard individual systems with a throttling steering fed by a constant capacity pump. Both system solutions are described and equations of the total efficiency η of the system are presented. Diagrams of energy efficiency of two hydraulic systems working at the same parameters of a speed and a load of hydraulic linear motor, which were different due to structure and ability of energy saving, were presented and compared.

The linear parameter varying (LPV) approach has proved to be suitable for controlling many non-linear systems. However, for those which are highly non-linear and complex, the number of scheduling variables increases rapidly. This fact makes the LPV controller implementation not feasible for many real systems due to memory constraints and computational burden. This paper considers the problem of reducing the total number of LPV controller gains by determining a heuristic methodology that combines two vertices of a polytopic LPV model such that the same gain can be used in both vertices. The proposed algorithm, based on the use of the Gershgorin circles, provides a combinability ranking for the different vertex pairs, which helps in solving the reduction problem in fewer attempts. Simulation examples are provided in order to illustrate the main characteristics of the proposed approach.

This investigation is concerned with robust analysis and control of uncertain nonlinear systems with parametric uncertainties. In contrast to the methodologies from the field of linear parameter varying systems, which employ convex structures of the state space representation in order to perform analysis and design, the proposed approach makes use of a polytopic form of a generalisation of the characteristic polynomial, which proves to outperform former results on the subject. Moreover, the derived conditions have the advantage of being cast as linear matrix inequalities under mild assumptions.

This paper presents a novel approach to the design of fuzzy state feedback controllers for continuous-time non-linear systems with input saturation under persistent perturbations. It is assumed that all the states of the Takagi–Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model representing a non-linear system are measurable. Such controllers achieve bounded input bounded output (BIBO) stabilisation in closed loop based on the computation of inescapable ellipsoids. These ellipsoids are computed with linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) that guarantee stabilisation with input saturation and persistent perturbations. In particular, two kinds of inescapable ellipsoids are computed when solving a multiobjective optimization problem: the maximum volume inescapable ellipsoids contained inside the validity domain of the TS fuzzy model and the smallest inescapable ellipsoids which guarantee a minimum *-norm (upper bound of the 1-norm) of the perturbed system. For every initial point contained in the maximum volume ellipsoid, the closed loop will enter the minimum *-norm ellipsoid after a finite time, and it will remain inside afterwards. Consequently, the designed controllers have a large domain of validity and ensure a small value for the 1-norm of closed loop.

Reachability and minimum energy control of descriptor fractional discrete-time linear systems with different fractional orders are addressed. Using the Weierstrass–Kronecker decomposition theorem of the regular pencil, a solution to the state equation of descriptor fractional discrete-time linear systems with different fractional orders is given. The reachability condition of this class of systems is presented and used for solving the minimum energy control problem. The discussion is illustrated with numerical examples.

Using the classical D-decomposition method, the necessary and sufficient condition for practical stability as well as the sufficient condition for asymptotic stability are given.
