Opis:
Discrete two-dimensional orthogonal wavelet transforms find applications in many areas of analysis and processing of digital images. In a typical scenario the separability of two-dimensional wavelet transforms is assumed and all calculations follow the row-column approach using one-dimensional transforms. For the calculation of one-dimensional transforms the lattice structures, which can be characterized by high computational efficiency and non-redundant parametrization, are often used. In this paper we show that the row-column approach can be excessive in the number of multiplications and rotations. Moreover, we propose the novel approach based on natively two-dimensional base operators which allows for significant reduction in the number of elementary operations, i.e., more than twofold reduction in the number of multiplications and fourfold reduction of rotations. The additional computational costs that arise instead include an increase in the number of additions, and introduction of bit-shift operations. It should be noted, that such operations are significantly less demanding in hardware realizations than multiplications and rotations. The performed experimental analysis proves the practical effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Opis:
Despite various speech enhancement techniques have been developed for different applications, existing methods are limited in noisy environments with high ambient noise levels. Speech presence probability (SPP) estimation is a speech enhancement technique to reduce speech distortions, especially in low signalto-noise ratios (SNRs) scenario. In this paper, we propose a new two-dimensional (2D) Teager-energyoperators (TEOs) improved SPP estimator for speech enhancement in time-frequency (T-F) domain. Wavelet packet transform (WPT) as a multiband decomposition technique is used to concentrate the energy distribution of speech components. A minimum mean-square error (MMSE) estimator is obtained based on the generalized gamma distribution speech model in WPT domain. In addition, the speech samples corrupted by environment and occupational noises (i.e., machine shop, factory and station) at different input SNRs are used to validate the proposed algorithm. Results suggest that the proposed method achieves a significant enhancement on perceptual quality, compared with four conventional speech enhancement algorithms (i.e., MMSE-84, MMSE-04, Wiener-96, and BTW).

Opis:
Identification of voltage and current disturbances is an important task in power system monitoring and protection. In this paper, the application of two-dimensional wavelet transform for characterization of a wide variety range of power quality disturbances is discussed, and a new algorithm, based on image processing techniques is proposed for this purpose. A matrix is formed based on a specified number of cycles in such a way that the samples of voltage signal in each cycle form one row of that matrix. This matrix can be regarded as a two dimensional image. A two-dimensional wavelet transform is used to decompose the image into approximation and details, which contain low frequency and high frequency components along the rows and columns, respectively. Different disturbances result into different special patterns in detail images. By processing the detail images, specific features are defined which can suitably discriminate various types of disturbances. Combination of the feature generation algorithm and a classifier system leads to a smart system for classification of wide variety range of disturbances.
