Opis:
The paper presents the method of preliminary estimation of harbour tugs main propulsion power and on board electric power station based on statistical analysis. At the beginning of paper, the classification of tug boats is executed. Tug boats are classified according to their type of service, type of main propulsion, equipment and way of service. For harbour and roadstead tug boats, the analysis of main propulsion plants and on board power station is executed. Pushing and tractor propulsion plants are presented in which different types of thrusters i.e. azimuth, cycloid and classic propellers are analysed. Advantages and defects of each type of main propulsion are pointed. Statistic methods of analysis are elaborated in Department of Marine Propulsion Plants of Gdynia Maritime University. These methods make possible in simple and quick way to estimate parameters of ship energetic system. The estimation is carried out with good correlation coefficient and high determination of regression coefficient. Statistic methods make also possible to forecast energetic systems parameters for ships to be built in the future. Dependencies for main propulsion power and electric power of onboard power station are not universal for all types of ships. They should be elaborated separately for each type of ships. In this paper, the results concerning only harbour and roadstead tug boats are presented.

Opis:
International shipping is the source of around 3% of global CO2 emissions. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is currently considered the only reasonable and commercially advanced alternative to the petroleum-based ship fuels. Liquefied natural gas can make a significant contribution to the diversification of transport fuels, reducing the greenhouse gas emissions from ships and heavy vehicles. The introduction of LNG technology as a drive for inland ships is a complex process. It requires activities in various areas, including development, legislation, building infrastructure, construction of new ships or their reconstruction. The greatest problem now seems to be the certainty of investing in the new fleet or their reconstruction. It is therefore desirable to assure shipowners that the investment in renewing or reconstruction should be guaranteed. This paper provides a study of reconstruction of the inland tugboat (tug) to a dual fuel system (diesel – LNG). A tugboat used by Slovak shipping company was chosen as a model vessel. The results presented a comprehensive design of the main and auxiliary engine remodelling, as well as the design of the vessel’s tanks and show how the conversion affects the basic navigational characteristics of the tugboat. Finally, the results point to the conversion methodology which is partly applicable to another type of inland tug, considering the individual specificities.

Opis:
The marine Diesel engines cooling systems and its elements were changing similarly to engines construction. Evolution of the cooling systems tends to reduce sea water pipelines inside engine room. Application of a central cooling system with box coolers completely eliminates sea water pipelines from engine room. Now that solution is rarely used on ships. It can be met on smaller ships, whose power output usually does not exceed 5000 kW, for example: tugs, dredgers, barges, supply vessels, fishing vessels, ferries, cargo freighters, reefers, ice breakers, carriers, etc. – operating inland, as well as in open sea navigation. The article presents an example of practical application of the central cooling system with box coolers on the tug running in Gdynia harbour. In author’s opinion, central cooling system with box coolers has a chance to spread out on bigger ships in the future. It will mainly depend on efficiency and reliability of box coolers secure systems. These systems ought to ensure correct operation of a cooling system between ship class dry-dockings. The box coolers used on the presented harbour tug are secured by ICAF system. The article presents also a proposition of solution to the cooling system with box coolers for merchant ship with power output higher up 5000 kW and advantages (disadvantages) of that solution.
