Opis:
The rising cost of fuel, the more and more severe international standards and a growing awareness of the environmental impact of pollutant emissions have led energy efficiency to become a theme of great interest in the marine sector. The strategy for increasing energy efficiency may refer both to the consumption reduction and to the increase of energy recovery systems. This need turns out in monitoring and control strategies for energy processes on board. Monitoring information is recorded and stocked in a database, that needs to be analyzed to find out patterns in large data sets. A huge amount of data, from a RO-PAX ship, has been analyzed in order to gain a further insight into ship performances. Improvements in ship energy performances could be reached with an intense study of the historical data of the vessel attitude.

Opis:
The prediction of the total resistance occurred during operation of a floatplane on the water surface is an important aspect in developing the floater as well as the engine power required. Theoretically, the trim angle of the floater may affect the total resistance. This paper intends to find the optimal trim angle for the take-off operation using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software. The floater set up under a fixed trim angle includes 2◦, 5◦ and 10◦ taken in simulation at five different speeds between 9.21 m/s and 15.87 m/s. In one case of 2◦ trim angle, the floater model test has been carried out in a tow tank laboratory to validate the accuracy of the numerical result. Comparison of both results has a good fit with an average error of 2.27%. In the final simulation results, the optimum trim angle is 5◦, which produces the total resistance less than 2◦ and 10◦ of the trim angle with average differences of 9.21% and 50.46% for all speeds, respectively.

Opis:
This paper deals with the results of studying the effect of trim on the performance of series cargo ship 12500DWT in full scale at two operating conditions by using the RANSE method. The Body Force Propeller method is used to simulate a rotating propeller behind the ship. The numerical predicted results at the ballast condition were verified and validated with sea trial data. The ship’s engine power curves for different trim conditions at two operating conditions were carried out to produce a data source to evaluate the effect of trim on the performance of the 12500DWT cargo ship. The results indicate that if the ship operates under optimum trim conditions, this can decrease the ship’s engine power in a range from 2.5 to 4.5% depending on different loading conditions and ship speeds. Finally, the paper also provides detailed differences in flow around the ship due to trim variation to explain the physical phenomenon of changing ship performance.

Opis:
The directions and speed of development of plane avionics systems are determined by three factors: economical consideration, required safety levels, and optimized working conditions for the pilot. This article presents the concept of a system in which the automatic control and stabilization process is effected because of coordinated deflections of trimming surfaces: the rudder, the elevator, and the ailerons. In particular, this article presents the structure of the system in the longitudinal movement steering channel by way of deflection of the trimmer of the elevator. Furthermore, it discusses the results of numerical model simulations, which are compared to the results obtained during in-flight tests. Additionally, this article specifies general technical requirements for the servomechanisms intended for the system class discussed herein. Selection of sufficiently large amplification makes control the plane with relatively small deflections of the trimmer. In particular, relationship between the deflection of the elevator and the deflection of trimmer, view of a tail plane and dimensions of the elevator trimmer, the structure and results of the pitch angle control system and simulation are presented in the article.

Opis:
This paper examines the effect of the stern wedge length and height on the drag and trim of a chine-planing hull in calm water. To this end, fluid flow was simulated by Star-CCM+ software by applying an overset mesh and k-ε turbulent model. The finite volume method was used to discretize the fluid domain, and the fluid volume was utilized to capture the generated free surface. The considered model is a prismatic planing hull with a deadrise angle of 24°, a mass of 86 kg, a length (L) of 2.64 m, and a beam (B) of 0.55 m. For validation, the numerical results of drag and trim were compared against experimental data, which displayed good compliance. Subsequently, the hydrodynamic performance of the planing hull was investigated, and the wedge effect was assessed. The stern wedge was located at the bottom and near the aft perpendicular to the hull to facilitate a moderate distribution. Various wedge lengths of 0.2B, 0.5B, and B at two different heights of 5 mm and 10 mm were examined to assess the hydrodynamic performance of the hull at various speeds. The trim angle, resistance, water surface elevation, porpoising, roster tail, and the stern and bow were computed and analyzed. Based on the numerical results, it was concluded that when the wedge length increased, the drag and trim were reduced. It was also concluded that the best wedge for a vessel with desirable wake generation is one with a length of 0.2B and a height of 5 mm.

Opis:
The paper presents the development of modelling and control strategies for a six-degree-of-freedom, unmanned combat aerial vehicle with the inclusion of the centre of gravity position travel during the straight-leg part of an in-flight refuelling manoeuvre. The centre of gravity position travel is found to have a parabolic variation with an increasing mass of aircraft. A nonlinear dynamic inversion-based neurocontroller is designed for the process under investigation. Three radial basis function neural networks are exploited in order to invert the dynamics of the system, one for each control channel. Modal and time-domain analysis results show that the dynamic properties of the aircraft are strongly influenced during aerial refuelling. The effectiveness of the proposed control law is demonstrated through the use of simulation results for an F-16 aircraft. The longitudinal neurocontroller provided interesting results, and performed better than a baseline nonlinear dynamic inversion controller without neural network. On the other hand, the lateral-directional nonlinear dynamic inversion-based neurocontroller did not perform well as the longitudinal controller. It was concluded that the nonlinear dynamic inversion-based neurocontroller could be applied to control an unmanned combat aerial vehicle during aerial refuelling.

Opis:
The paper presents a new method for building measuring instruments and systems for gyro-free determination of the parameters of moving objects. To illustrate the qualities of this method, a system for measuring the roll, pitch, heel and trim of a ship has been developed on its basis. The main concept of the method is based, on one hand, on a simplified design of the base coordinate system in the main measurement channel so as to reduce the instrumental errors, and, on the other hand, on an additional measurement channel operating in parallel with the main one and whose hardware and software platform makes possible performing algorithms intended to eliminate the dynamic error in real time. In this way, as well as by using suitable adaptive algorithms in the measurement procedures, low-cost measuring systems operating with high accuracy under conditions of inertial effects and whose parameters (intensity and frequency of the maximum in the spectrum) change within a wide range can be implemented.

Opis:
This paper presents results of the numerical evaluation of the fast container ship's wave pattern, based on the RANSE (Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes Equations) method with dynamic trim and sinkage taken into account. Evaluating the ship's running attitude is based on coupling the flow solver with solving the motion equations for the ship hull. The results are presented for four speed values and contain: ship's running attitude (defined by changes of ship draught and trim angle), wave contours and wave profiles in chosen planes. The computed ship's running attitude and wave profiles are compared with the experimental results.
