Opis:
In recent years, the several causative factors of tree decline have caught our attention in the over 40-year-old University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). Identical tree species decline and causing factors increasingly became persistently epidemic on environmental trees across Niger Delta. Despite the global growing demands on tree landscape systems and new concepts of biosecurity needs, which today expect greater responsibility from different societal groups to align these demands with operational utilization of suitable trees hopefully native species, Nigeria still hugely rely on exotic species for its landscape systems. While a plethora of articles have been aired and documented on Niger Delta contemporary issues in local and international debate convergences, the Oil Exploration and Human Developmental Projects (OEHDPs) effects dominate. This study provided utilization based information on Stress-Pests Infestations (SPIs) factors and challenges related to alien ornamental trees in Niger Delta where anaerobic soil condition perennially exists. Soil moisture stress has been recognized as formidable major threat to the safety of exotic (alien or non native species) trees and predisposing susceptible ornamental tree species to fungi invasions and subsequent infestation of living trees by termites, beetles and of recent weaver birds. To reduce the SPIs effectively, and improve human inhabitations, this study stresses the urgent policy need for a paradigm shift from landscape design utilizing alien tree species to the massive use of indigenous trees species native to Niger Delta region.

Opis:
The importance of trees in the environment cannot be overemphasized. This present study, therefore, deals with the distribution and relative density of trees species in Kainji Lake National Park. Data were collected using plot sampling techniques. Therein, a 50 by 50 m2 plot was randomly laid. Within each sample plot, data on all trees ≥ 10 cm in diameter at breast height were enumerated. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The result shows that different types of plants species were enumerated in the selected plots. This included six families of trees: Fabiaceae, Caesalpiniaceae, Rubiaceae, Maliaceae, Annonaceae and Mimosaceae. The percentage score of tree species in the four plots reveals that Afzelia africana recorded the highest with a total number of 60 species, followed by Detarium macrocarpium with 47 species, while Anogeissus leiocarpus and Azadirachta indica recorded 31 and 17 species, respectively. Gardenia aqualla was the least species recorded. The density and relative density of Afzelia africana recorded the highest, with 1.2ha and 26.9%, followed by Detarium microcarpiuum with 0.94ha and 21.1%, respectively, while Gardenia aqualla was the least with 0.02 ha and 0.4%. In terms of mean height, Daniela oliveri recorded the highest, with 28.1m, followed by Afzelia africana with 21.8%, while Azadirachta indica was the least with 5.8%. The mean DBH of Entada africana and Anogeissus leiocarpus recorded was 28.7cm and 28.1cm, while Prosopis africana and Accacia gournmaensis recorded 14.0 and 13.4, respectively, which were the least. The Types of wild animal species that are associated with the tree species includes Baboon, Kob, Grim duiker, Francolin, Patas monkey etc. Relative abundance of the animal species shows that Papio anubis recorded the highest with 40.5 individuals, while Erythrocebus patas recorded the least with 2.5 individuals.

An [1, k]-set S in a graph G is a dominating set such that every vertex not in S has at most k neighbors in it. If the additional requirement that the set must be independent is added, the existence of such sets is not guaranteed in every graph. In this paper we solve some problems previously posed by other authors about independent [1, 2]-sets. We provide a necessary condition for a graph to have an independent [1, 2]-set, in terms of spanning trees, and we prove that this condition is also sufficient for cactus graphs. We follow the concept of excellent tree and characterize the family of trees such that any vertex belongs to some independent [1, 2]-set. Finally, we describe a linear algorithm to decide whether a tree has an independent [1, 2]-set. This algorithm can be easily modified to obtain the cardinality of a smallest independent [1, 2]-set of a tree.

Opis:
Scots pine stands in central Poland are now seen to be experiencing dynamic development of lower layers formed by oaks. The under−canopy natural renewal taking place in this way is sometimes characterised by good silvicultural quality, and could therefore be taken advantage of in the process of stand conversion. The study assess the quality of existing undergrowth layers of oak present in older stands of Scots pine, most especially from the point of view of their suitability for subjection to further silvicultural measures. The research material was collected in 10 objects where site type was classified as mesic mixed coniferous site type (BMśw) as well as in 11 ones with mesic mixed broadleaved forest (LMśw) site type. In each site type, 2 or 3 stands were selected to typify undergrowth layers aged 15, 20, 25 or 30 years. Assessment of oak undergrowth trees was made on the basis of 4−point scale in case of trunk or crown quality and vitality, and on a 3−point scale when vitality and the development trend were concerned. Next we selected the trees with future potential characterised by the highest quality from the point of view of all studied traits. A further determination concerned the influence on the traits in these best trees of the oak understorey that was exerted by biometric features of both the sheltering Scots pine stand and the under−growth itself. The studied undergrowth oaks are of either very good or good quality. Around 90% of these young trees could be assigned to 1st or 2nd quality class with the respect of all of analysed traits. Furthermore, fertility of the site type was found not to have any influence on the quality of the young oaks. However, where the number of trees identified as having future potential is concerned, influence was demonstrated for density of trees in both stand and the undergrowth layer, as well as their height, breast−height diameter and basal area. Oaks forming the lower layer beneath Scots pine stands are thus characterised by good quality and growth trends, to the extent that this suggests allowing further growth to take place, with inclusion within the main stand or next generation.

Tunnel establishment, like HTTPS tunnel or related ones, between a computer protected by a security gateway and a remote server located outside the protected network is the most effective way to bypass the network security policy. Indeed, a permitted protocol can be used to embed a forbidden one until the remote server. Therefore, if the resulting information flow is ciphered, security standard tools such as application level gateways (ALG), firewalls, intrusion detection system (IDS), do not detect this violation. In this paper, we describe a statistical analysis of ciphered flows that allows detection of the carried inner protocol. Regarding the deployed security policy, this technology could be added in security tools to detect forbidden protocols usages. In the defence domain, this technology could help preventing information leaks through side channels. At the end of this article, we present a tunnel detection tool architecture and the results obtained with our approach on a public database containing real data flows.

It is well known that the Hubbard tree of a postcritically finite complex polynomial contains all the combinatorial information on the polynomial. In fact, an abstract Hubbard tree as defined in [23] uniquely determines the polynomial up to affine conjugation. In this paper we give necessary and sufficient conditions enabling one to deduce directly from the restriction of a quadratic Misiurewicz polynomial to its Hubbard tree whether the polynomial is renormalizable, and in this case, of which type. Moreover, we study dynamical features such as entropy, transitivity or periodic structure of the polynomial restricted to the Hubbard tree, and compare them with the properties of the polynomial on its Julia set. In other words, we want to study how much of the "dynamical information" about the polynomial is captured by the Hubbard tree.

This paper is focusing on 3D Finite Elements Analysis (FEA) based modelling of protrusions as defects or imperfections in the XLPE high voltage cable. This study is aiming to examine the impact protrusions have on the initiation of partial discharges. Spherical and ellipsoidal protrusions with different sizes at the conductor screen of the high voltage cable is an essential content of this paper. In addition, a spherical gas-filled void is placed inside and outside the protrusions, and a water tree produced from protrusions is under consideration. The partial discharge influence taking place at the protrusions and the stress enhancement factor is determined for all the variations mentioned to quantify the rise in the inception of partial discharges due to the protrusions.

Opis:
The aim of this work was to determine the biometric features of Scots pine Pinus sylvestris L. regeneration in terms of their susceptibility to weather-inflicted damage. We compared the damage between three sites located in the Polish part of the Carpathians: Scots pine planted in (I) fertile sites of mountain broadleaved and mixed broadleaved forest, (II) poor sites of mountain coniferous forest and (III) sites of Scots pine natural refuges during the post-glacial period. In each of the three sites of pine regeneration, 11 research plots were established with 50 pine trees on each plot. For each tree, the following biometric measurements were taken: diameter at breast height, height, three-year height increment, crown length and crown width measured along the contour line. The Scots pine regeneration was found to vary in terms of their biometric features depending on the site fertility. In fertile sites, the biometric parameters of the trees increased at a faster rate compared to low-fertility sites causing an increase in their susceptibility to damage by adverse weather conditions such as snow and rime. Therefore, the silvicultural risk in fertile sites is high and thus the introduction of pine for regeneration should be avoided in fertile broadleaved and mixed broadleaved forests even if pine provenances from a mountain origin are to be planted. Furthermore, tending cuts in regeneration should be made frequently, but with moderate intensity as to avoid excessive reductions in tree density. Intensive cuts, especially in fertile sites, promote the expansion of pine crowns, which further increases the risk of damage.

A total Roman dominating function on a graph G is a function f : V (G) → {0, 1, 2} satisfying the following conditions: (i) every vertex u for which f(u) = 0 is adjacent to at least one vertex v for which f(v) = 2 and (ii) the subgraph of G induced by the set of all vertices of positive weight has no isolated vertex. The weight of a total Roman dominating function f is the value f(V (G)) = Σu∈V(G) f(u). The total Roman domination number γtR(G) is the minimum weight of a total Roman dominating function of G. Ahangar et al. in [H.A. Ahangar, M.A. Henning, V. Samodivkin and I.G. Yero, Total Roman domination in graphs, Appl. Anal. Discrete Math. 10 (2016) 501–517] recently showed that for any graph G without isolated vertices, 2γ(G) ≤ γtR(G) ≤ 3γ(G), where γ(G) is the domination number of G, and they raised the problem of characterizing the graphs G achieving these upper and lower bounds. In this paper, we provide a constructive characterization of these trees.

The article presents a brief history of creation of decision trees and defines the purpose of the undertaken works. The process of building a classification tree, according to the CHAID method, is shown paying particular attention to the disadvantages, advantages, and characteristics features of this method, as well as to the formal requirements that are necessary to build this model. The tree’s building method for UZRGM (Universal Modernised Fuze of Hand Grenades) fuzes was characterized, specifying the features of the tested hand grenade fuzes and the predictors used that are necessary to create the correct tree model. A classification tree was built basing on the test results, assuming the accepted post-diagnostic decision as a qualitative dependent variable. A schema of the designed tree for the first diagnostic tests, its full structure and the size of individual classes of the node are shown. The matrix of incorrect classifications was determined, which determines the accuracy of incorrect predictions, i.e., correctness of the performed classification. A sheet with risk assessment and standard error for the learning sample and the v-fold cross-check were presented. On the selected examples, the quality of the resulting predictive model was assessed by means of a graph of the cumulative value of the lift coefficient and the "ROC" curve.
