Opis:
Internal recycle (IR) ratio is an important operation parameter for the anaerobic/anoxic/oxic (A2O) wastewater treatment process. Three laboratory-scale A2O wastewater treatment processes with IR ratios 100%, 200%, and 300% were set up to study its influence on the denitrification process and nirS gene-containing bacteria. Results showed theremoval rate of chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonia nitrogen (NH4 +-N), total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) increased at different levels as the IR rate augmented from 100% to 300%. NirS gene numbers were increased from 1.8×108 to 3.2×108 copies/g MLSS, which was positively correlated with the denitrification rate in anoxic areas. Moreover, similarities were observed in the community structures of denitrifying bacteria that contained the nirS gene under different operation modes. These results indicated that increasing the IR rate in the A2O treatment process could benefit nirS gene-containing bacteria and improve denitrification ability observably while maintaining the stability of the community structure of the system.

Opis:
In the paper the use of the artificial neural network to the control of the work of heat treating equipment for the long axisymmetric steel elements with variable diameters is presented. It is assumed that the velocity of the heat source is modified in the process and is in real time updated according to the current diameter. The measurement of the diameter is performed at a constant distance from the heat source (Δz = 0). The main task of the model is control the assumed values of temperature at constant parameters of the heat source such as radius and power. Therefore the parameter of the process controlled by the artificial neural network is the velocity of the heat source. The input data of the network are the values of temperature and the radius of the heated element. The learning, testing and validation sets were determined by using the equation of steady heat transfer process with a convective term. To verify the possibilities of the presented algorithm, based on the solve of the unsteady heat conduction with finite element method, a numerical simulation is performed. The calculations confirm the effectiveness of use of the presented solution, in order to obtain for example the constant depth of the heat affected zone for the geometrically variable hardened axisymmetric objects.

Opis:
One of the most frequently applied methods of mixed municipal solid waste biological treatment in mechanical-biological treatment installations (MBT) is their disposal in aerobic biostabilization process. The process comprises an intensive phase and maturation phase. The intensive phase relies on waste heating in result of organic matter breakdown conducted by microorganisms settling the wastes. Microorganisms living in wastes have optimal conditions for development, i.e. a considerable space volume, optimal material fragmentation and organic matter availability. The aim of the aerobic biostabilization process is stabilizing and hygienization of wastes, so that they become a valuable raw material for other recovery processes (e.g. RDF production, Refuse-Derived Fuel) or their disposal is safe for the environment and do not pose any epidemiological hazard for people employed in waste treatment plants. Analyses presented in the paper aimed to determine the number and species composition of vegetative and endospore bacteria, mold fungi, actinomycetes and pathogenic microorganisms, i.e. Staphylococcus spp., E. coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., E. faecalis, C. perfringens, settling municipal wastes prior to and after aerobic stabilization process. The aerobic stabilization process (intensive phase) was conducted in a laboratory BKB 100 bioreactor using the wastes, characterized by low share of biodegradable wastes (<40%), obtained from MBT installation during the period from December 2015 to February 2016. The temperature, loss on ignition, waste density, ash content, moisture and pH were monitored during the analyses. The research was conducted on the undersize and oversize fraction separated from mixed municipal wastes on MBT installation. The maximal temperature reached in the bioreactor, between c.a. 40 and 55°C, persisting for many hours is insufficient for efficient elimination of the determined microorganism groups. Paradoxically, the conditions created in the bioreactor proved convenient for the microorganisms, therefore an increase in their number was observed. Only in one case, when the share of biodegradable wastes exceed the value of 45 % it was observed, that the aerobic stabilization process of these wastes was going correctly and caused among others a decrease in loss on ignition.

Opis:
The copper droplets contained in the post-processing liquid slag are subjected to the treatment by the complex reagent. The complex reagent has been recently elaborated and patented in frame of the Grant No. PBS3/A5/45/2015. In particular, the complex reagent is dedicated to the post-processing slags coming from the Smelter and Refinery Plant, Głogów, as a product of the direct-to-blister technology performed in the flash furnace. The recently patented complex reagent effectively assists not only in agglomeration, and coagulation but also in the deposition of the copper droplets at the bottom of crucible / furnace as well. The treatment of the post-processing slags by the complex reagent was performed in the BOLMET S.A. Company as in the industrial conditions which were similar to those usually applied in the KGHM – Polish Copper (Smelter and Refinery Plant, Głogów). The competition between buoyancy force and gravity is studied from the viewpoint of the required deposition of coagulated copper droplets. The applied complex reagent improves sufficiently the surface free energy of the copper droplets. In the result, the mechanical equilibrium between coagulated copper droplets and surrounding liquid slag is properly modified. Finally, sufficiently large copper droplets are subjected to a settlement on the crucible / furnace bottom according to the requirements.

The possibility to combine wastewater treatment and electricity production can accomplish a microbial fuel cell. Microbial fuel cells use glucose from wastewater as a fuel. In recent years, both production of municipal and industry wastewater increases very much. Municipal wastewater is directed to the wastewater treatment plant. While industry wastewater can be use as a fertilizer. But, both municipal and industry wastewater can be used in the microbial fuel cells. The comparison of powering the microbial fuel cell with municipal and process wastewater from yeast production is presented in this paper. The measurements covered comparison of changes in the concentration of COD in the reactor without aeration, with aeration and with using a microbial fuel cell (powered with municipal and industry wastewater). The results of measurements of COD showed no differences between the microbial fuel cell powered with municipal wastewater and the microbial fuel cell powered with process yeast wastewater. But, the power output is higher with using process yeast wastewater to powering the microbial fuel cell.

Opis:
Miedwie Lake is the biggest post-glacial lake of the West-Pomeranian Voievodship. At the same time it is the fifth of the largest lakes in Poland. As regards the geographical situation, Miedwie Lake is situated centrally between three big agglomerations i.e. Szczecin, Stargard Szczecinski and Pyrzyce (Fig. 1). The lake lies on the territory of three municipalities: Pyrzyce and Warnice in the District of Pyrzyce as well as Stargard Szczecinski in the District of Stargard (Rozmiarek 1983, Szyper 1990). At the moment, the reservoir is characterised with the regular, prolonged shape resembling an ellipse. Banks are shallow, regular and sometime very wet. The lake has the belt of the nearshore reaching locally tens metres far from the lake bank, what is the reason, together with the fact that the wind blows always here, that it is convenient for practising the various kinds of water sports. The lake area amounts to 3 527 ha; maximal depth – 43.8 m; average depth – 19.3 m; water capacity – 681.7 mln m3; shore-line length – 38.8 km; water level datum 14.1 m above sea level; maximal width 3.16 km; maximal length 16.2 km. The lake’s bottom is the lowest situated area on the territory of Poland.
Ujecie wody „Miedwie” powstało w roku 1976. Do tego czasu wody jeziora odpowiadały pierwszej klasie czystości. Jednakże jakość wody zaczęła się pogarszać już po rozpoczęciu eksploatacji ujęcia, dochodząc aż do poziomu trzeciej klasy czystości. Przyczyną był brak oczyszczalni oraz PGR-y. Zanieczyszczenie zbiornika powodowało masowe śniecią ryb (siei miedwiańskiej), przy dnie pojawił się siarkowodór, masowo zakwitały glony. Dalsze pogarszanie się stanu jeziora groziło zamknięciem ujęcia wody oraz wyniszczeniem życia biologicznego w zbiorniku, jak również wokół niego. Spadek jakości wód jeziora spowodowany był kilkoma czynnikami: rolnictwo, baza rosyjska w Kluczewie, turystyka, dopływy jeziora, biomanipulacja wodami Miedwia.

The aim of this work was to propose a methodology supporting the task of collecting the comparative data on studies of the mechanical properties of ADI. Collecting of research data is an important step in the process of finding the optimum design solutions for newly made products - experimental data allow us properly calibrate the manufacturing process of ADI to let the final product achieve the required properties. Parameters of the ADI production process, i.e. the time and temperature of austenitising and austempering, as well as the alloying elements added to ductile iron affect the ADI properties. The design process can use research data collected, among others, from the Web. As stated in the article, the process of data acquisition can be supported by semantic technologies, including ontologies which are descriptive logic formalism.

Proces demielinizacyjny to jedna z przyczyn występowania deficytów neurologicznych także w populacji dziecięcej. Nie jest to proces jednorodny i wymaga szczegółowej diagnostyki, również tej różnicowej. W niektórych przypadkach postawienie diagnozy wiąże się z wykonaniem wielu badań i długotrwałą obserwacją pacjenta. Jest to tym bardziej istotne, że dopiero postawienie właściwego rozpoznania jest związane z optymalną terapią pacjenta. W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono przypadek pacjentki, u której rozpoznano proces demielinizacyjny z obecnymi przeciwciałami anty-MOG.
The demyelinating process is one of the causes of neurological deficits also in the pediatric population. It is not a homogeneous process and requires detailed diagnostics, including differential diagnosis. In some cases making a diagnosis involves carrying out many tests and prolonged observation of the patient. This is all the more important as only the correct diagnosis is associated with optimal patient therapy. This paper presents the case of a patient diagnosed with demyelination with anti-MOG antibodies present.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to present selected cases with Eagle’s syndrome diagnosed and treated at the Department of Otolaryngology, Laryngological Oncology, Audiology and Phoniatrics, Medical University of Lodz, in the years 2016–2020. Material and method: Five selected clinical cases with Eagle’s syndrome are presented, including three male patients and two female patients, aged 28 to 42 years. Results: The prevalence of Eagle’s syndrome was similar for both female and male patients. The carotid artery syndrome, which is characterized by: visual disturbances, unilateral pain located along cervical vessels, headache and migraine, was more common. Lack of proper diagnosis of Eagle’s syndrome often significantly delays the implementation of proper treatment and thus exposes patients to long-term struggle with pain. Our observations have shown that the time between the onset of symptoms and correct diagnosis in patients averaged about five years. 3D-CT scan is the gold standard for detecting Eagle’s syndrome. An intraoral approach was used in surgical treatment. Although this approach offers shorter treatment time and better cosmetic effect, there is also a greater risk of complications associated with limited visibility of the surgical field and infection. Conclusions: Although styloid syndrome usually occurs bilaterally, these patients reported unilateral symptoms. No correlations were found between the prevalence of Eagle’s syndrome and sex, the length of the styloid process or age, nor side of the body. The best healing effect is obtained by surgical correction/reduction of the elongated styloid process.

In the work issues related to control of the electrical blowers installed in the waste water treatment plant (WWTP) are demonstrated. After a short introduction a description of a real treatment plant is presented. Then the main sewage drives are described. Next the commonly used control strategies for the biological-chemical process are presented. The model ASM1 of the biological chemical transformation used in the advanced MPC (model predictive control) strategy is introduced. Then the fuzzy system based on the TSK model is presented. The ability of the TSK fuzzy system to estimate the biological-chemical variables are demonstrated.

Opis:
The effectiveness of co-treatment of leachates from an old site of municipal landfill with a dairy industry wastewater in a membrane bioreactor has been investigated. The subjects of the study were leachates collected at the municipal landfill in Tychy and dairy wastewaters from Dairy Plant in Bieruń. The determination of the most effective technological parameters of the process, i.e. activated sludge load and its concentration and types of COD fractions in the reactor influent was made. It was shown that the activated sludge load at the level of 0.06 g COD/(gDM·d) was the highest permissible one among all the investigated loads and the process run effectively within the whole investigated range of concentrations of activated sludge in a bioreactor. It was found that in the treated wastewater, the fraction of easily degradable organic compounds was the dominant one.

The paper presents the research results on the possibility of the integration of advanced oxidation process (AOP) involving Fenton reaction with nanofiltration (NF) for dairy effluent treatment. It has been found that Fenton oxidation reduces organic compounds, total phosphorus and total nitrogen. However, NF enables high ions retention derived from both effluent and Fenton oxidation components. As a result, it was possible to obtain water, which, without any harmful effects, could be discharged into environment. This water also fulfilled most of the requirements to be reused in dairy industrial plant.

Opis:
Mechaniczno-biologiczne przetwarzanie (MBP) odpadów komunalnych to jedna z metod, której celem jest zmniejszenie masy składowanych odpadów ulegających biodegradacji. Metoda stanowi zintegrowany proces łączący mechaniczne i biologiczne przetwarzanie zmieszanych odpadów komunalnych. Aktualnie wytyczne do realizacji tego procesu stanowią zapisy Rozporządzenia Ministra Środowiska z dnia 11 września 2012 r. w sprawie mechaniczno-biologicznego przetwarzania zmieszanych odpadów komunalnych. Rozporządzenie to jest ważne do stycznia 2016 r. Z tego też względu minister środowiska jest zobligowany do opracowania nowego rozporządzenia. W artykule przedstawiono zapisy projektu rozporządzenia datowanego na 28 lipca 2015 r., które to ma zastąpić obecnie funkcjonujące rozporządzenie. Przedstawiono także, jak w ramach tych zapisów funkcjonuje proces mechanicznobiologicznego przetwarzania zmieszanych odpadów komunalnych w regionalnej instalacji do przetwarzania tych odpadów. Instalacja w Sobuczynie to największa tego typu instalacja położona w górnej części województwa śląskiego, przetwarzająca odpady z rejonu miasta Częstochowy i jej okolic. W ostatnim okresie zakład został rozbudowany i zmodernizowany tak, aby spełniać wszystkie wymagania określone obowiązującymi przepisami prawa w tym zakresie.
Mechanical and biological treatment (MBT) of mixed municipal waste is currently one of the most common methods of municipal waste processing. This method is an integrated technological process, where mechanical and biological processing occurs, designed to preconversion or land filling. The regulation of the Minister of the Environment of 11 September 2012 provides guidelines for the implementation of the MBT treatment. However, since the entry of a new waste law this act has to be replaced by a new regulation. In carrying out this obligation the Minister of the Environment prepared a draft regulation on the mechanical and biological treatment of mixed municipal waste dated on 9th of April 2015. The article outlines changes in a new project and gives some remarks on it. Currently it is a good time to prepare such act that will provide better solutions in terms of prevention of irregularities in the processing of waste, improving waste management and in helping Poland to achieve its goals set out in EU directives. The new project by clarifying numbers of provisions of the current regulation on the mechanical-biological treatment of mixed municipal waste constitutes the demarcation of such solutions. Unfortunately, it brings also some controversial provisions needed to be clarified at the current stage of work. It is extremely important to do not disrupt the work of properly functioning regional installations of mixed municipal waste processing, such MBT installation in Sobuczyna. Since January 2015 installation in Sobuczyna, managed by Municipal Enterprise of Czestochowa, is the largest MBT installation in the upper part of Silesia voivodeship. The article describes this installation in the aspect of meeting requirements of actual regulation of the Minister of the Environment dated on September 11, 2012 as well as the new project of this regulation dated on July, 28, 2015.
