Opis:
Badania prowadzono w hali wegetacyjnej Instytutu Uprawy Nawożenia i Gleboznawstwa-Państwowego Instytutu Badawczego w Puławach, w wazonach Mitscherlicha zawierających mieszaninę 5 kg ziemi ogrodowej i 2 kg piasku. Czynnikiem I rzędu były odmiany łubinu wąskolistnego: Graf i Boruta, a czynnikiem II rzędu – rodzaj wody stosowanej do podlewania roślin: Wk – woda nienamagnesowana (obiekt kontrolny), Wn – woda uzdatniona magnetyzerem nakładkowym i Wp – woda uzdatniona magnetyzerem przepływowym. Rośliny podlewane wodą uzdatnianą magnetycznie osiągały większe wskaźniki bezwzględnej (GR) i względnej (RGR) szybkości wzrostu niż rośliny podlewane zwykłą wodą.
Researches were conducted in the greenhouse of Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation – National Research Institute in Puławy. Plants were cultivated in Mitscherlich pots which contained a mixture of soil and sand in amounts of 5 and 2 kg per pot, respectively. The first row factor was blue lupine variety: Graf and Boruta, and the second factor was type of water used for plant watering: Wk – non-magnetised water (control), Wp – water conditioned by flow magnetiser, and Wn – water conditioned by fish-plate magnetiser. The aim of undertaken studies was the evaluation of magnetic conditioned water influence on seed germination and growth, development and yielding of lupine. It was found that magnetic conditioned water increased lupine germination. It concerned the time as well as the dynamics of plant emergence. Plants watered with magnetic conditioned water achieved greater absolute growth rate (GR) and relative growth rate (RGR) than plants watered with normal water. The use of magnetic water caused significant seed yield increase of both lupine varieties. Yield increase was a consequence of greater number of pods per plant and greater number of seeds per plant, since the thousand sees mass did not change.

Opis:
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczące zmian stężenia azotu amonowego (N-NH4+) i azotu azotanowego (N-NO3-) w wodach pobranych po poszczególnych procesach uzdatniania prowadzonych w ZUW Goczałkowice. Kolejne procesy, zarówno w ciągu technologicznym GO-CZA I, jak i GO-CZA II, pozwoliły na obniżenie stężenia azotu amonowego do wartości poniżej poziomu oznaczalności.
Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Goczałkowice belongs to the Upper Silesian Waterworks in Katowice. Production of WTP Goczałkowice is around 45% of the total production of drinking water in the whole water-works. The paper presents results of studies on changes in the concentration of ammonium nitrogen (N-NH_4^+) and nitrate nitrogen (N-NO_3^-) in water collected after various treatment processes. Determination of am-monium nitrogen was carried out using Nessler reagent and nitrate nitrogen - colorimetric method with brucine reagent. In subsequent processes, in-line GO-GO CZA CZA and II, there was a decrease of ammonium nitrogen concentrations below the level of quantification. The limit value of ammonium ions in drinking water specified in the Regulation Ministry of Health from 20th April 2010 is 0.50 mg NH4+/dm3. Water treated in WTP Goczałkowice meets these requirements and the concentration of ammonium nitrogen is much lower than the limit specified in regulation. In these regulation there is also acceptable concentration of nitrates in the water for human consumption (50 mg NO3-/dm3). After appropriate con-version of nitrate nitrogen to nitrates may be concluded that also in this respect, water treated in WTP Goczałkowice meet the legal quality requirements.

Quantifying soil quality is important for asses- sing soil management practices effects on spatial and temporal variability of soil quality at the field scale. We studied the pos- sibility of defining a simple and practical fuzzy soil quality index based on biological, chemical and physical indicators for assessing quality variations of soil irrigated with well water and treated urban wastewater during two experimental years. In this study 6 proper- ties considered as minimum data set were selected out of 18 soil properties as total data set using the principal component analysis. Treated urban wastewater use had greater impact on biological and chemical quality. The results showed that the studied minimum data set could be a suitable representative of total data set. Significant correlation between the fuzzy soil quality index and crop yield (R 2 = 0.72) indicated the index had high biological significance for studied area. Fuzzy soil quality index approach (R 2 = 0.99) could be effectively utilized as a tool leading to better understanding soil quality changes. This is a first trial of creation of a universal index of soil quality undertaken.

Opis:
During the last decade, an increase in global geothermal energy usage has been recorded. Technological development and the increased efficiency of the systems used as well as environmental and economic considerations have played a fundamental role in this process. Geothermal energy is used directly (for heating, leisure and balneological purposes, in agriculture and aquaculture where thermophilic species are bred, etc.) in 78 countries of the world. Key factors that determine the conditions in which geothermal waters are used, the amount of energy obtained and the manner in which cooled water is utilised include water salinity and the presence of specific ingredients. Elevated salinity levels and the presence of microelements such as boron, barium, strontium, fluorides, bromides and heavy metals may often lead to difficulties related to the utilisation of spent waters. The papers presents the aims and objectives of the new Project "Obtaining of drinking water and liquids and balneological substances in the treatment of cooled thermal waters and the results of previous research related to the use of desalination processes to treat spent geothermal water".

Article shows and discusses the results of research concerning influence of chosen technological characteristics of the coagulation process on the efficiency of aluminum coagulants: sulfate (VI) aluminum and polyaluminum chloride (Flokor 1,2A) and also iron coagulant: sulfate (VI) iron (III): PIX-112, in the removal of underground water pollution. The analysis of results showed that the efficiency of coagulant in underground water pollution removal increases along with the increase of dose tested coagulants, with the increase of water temperature and with flocculation process prolongation. Polyaluminum chloride Flokor 1,2A proved to be the most efficient. Sulfate (VI) iron (III) – PIX-112 turned out to be the least efficient one.

Opis:
For its specific physical and physicochemical properties, the water treated with low-frequency low-pressure glow plasma (GPTW) affects the growth of plants and enhances the phytoavalibility of selenium (Se) ions from the nutrient solution. The basic biometric and physiological parameters of cucumber and the uptake of Se ions applied as selenate (Na2SeO4) from the nutrient solution prepared using GPTW or distilled water (DW) were compared. In the presence of Se, the fresh weight (f.w.) of shoots of plants growing in waterdifferentiated nutrient solutions did not differ, whilst their dry weight (d.w.) and leaf area (LA) were higher in plants grown in the GPTW- than in DW-containing medium. The use of GPTW for preparation of the nutrient solution was associated with a substantial improvement of Se ions phytoavailability, compared to the regular growth medium based on DW. Despite the higher Se bioaccumulation in the GPTW- than in DW-based medium, the phytotoxicity of this element was not enhanced. GPTW-induced Se accumulation was remarkable and hence recommended for further study to understand the detailed mechanism GPTW action.

Opis:
The use of treated wastewater for irrigation purposes will be an essential component for sustainable water resources management, especially in the water-stressed countries as in Jordan. In this context, an attempt has been made to determine the suitability of effluent quality of selected wastewater treatment plants in Jordan for the irrigation purposes based on weighted arithmetic water quality index (WQI) approach, according to the Jordanian standards for reclaimed domestic wastewater. The effluent wastewater quality records from 22 wastewater treatment plants within a one-year-monitoring period from March 2015 to February 2016 were used. Fifteen physical, chemical, and microbiological parameters were selected to calculate WQI. According to the WQI scale classification, most of the selected wastewater treatment plants were not in full compliance with the Jordanian standards for the reclaimed domestic wastewater regarding the direct reuse of treated wastewater for the irrigation purposes. Therefore, for category A (i.e., vegetables that are normally eaten cooked, parking areas, sides of roads inside cities, and playgrounds), one plant is classified in the 'Excellent water' class and six plants as a "Good water" class. For category B (i.e., irrigation of fruit trees, green areas, and sides of roads outside the cities), one plant is classified in the 'Excellent water' class and twelve plants as a "Good water" class. For category C (i.e., irrigation of industrial crops, field crops, and forest trees), one plant is classified in the 'Excellent water' class and fifteen plants as a "Good water" class. The effective weight calculations identified that E. coli is considered the most effective parameter in the WQI values in category A, and to a lesser extent, SAR, pH, BOD, and NO3. For category B, the SAR, pH and E. coli parameters are considered the most effective parameters in the WQI values. In turn, for category C, the SAR, pH, and PO4–3 parameters are considered the most effective parameters in the WQI values. Thus, these parameters based on category are considered as the main parameters which degrade the effluent wastewater quality for irrigation purposes. The results of this study are beneficial for the water managers and policymakers for proper actions on water resources and agricultural management in Jordan.

The article assesses the physical and chemical parameters of drinking water before and after the modernization of the technological system of water treatment station in Drzenin, Poland. The extension and modernization of the existing installation was necessary due to the poor technical condition of the devices, increasing demand for water in recent years and the periodic exceeding of the permissible values of water quality indicators. Analysis of physical and chemical properties of drinking water after the modernization of the system showed the effectiveness of the water purification processes used and the correct selection of the technological line. The obtained water quality parameters were in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Health on the quality of water intended for human consumption (Journal of Laws of 2017, item 2294).

This study examines the flexural strength and compressive strength of the mortars, which were mixed with the electromagnetic field treated water (EMFTW) and contained fly ash. EMFTW was obtained by passing the tap water through an electromagnetic field. The test variable was the fly ash content in place of cement and the water treated with EMFTW in place of the tap water. The results show that the flexural and compressive strength of the mortar samples mixed with MFTW is 12.56% and 15.8% higher than that prepared with the tap water, respectively. It was also found that the magnetized water improves the resistance to bending and compression by 12.67% and 4.35% to that prepared with the tap water and 10% fly ash instead of cement.

Opis:
In Jordan, the unprecedented proliferation of building projects is anticipated to increase the potable water demand in the construction manufacturing. In the present work, secondary treated wastewater (STW) and potable water (PW) were used in the production of concrete mixes, which were subjected to testing after 3 to 28 days of curing to determine how the, mechanical properties of concrete was affected by the addition of secondary treated wastewater in various proportions (25-100%). Results indicated that the use of 25% and 75% of secondary treated wastewater in concrete production increased the compressive strength to 39 MPa after 28 days of curing. A more noticeable increment was recorded in tensile strength, which was double that achieved with the standard design. Overall, the compressive strength increased by 21.95% when secondary treated wastewater was used, while the expenditure related to water usage was halved. Furthermore, there was consistency between the results obtained from scaling up to actual ready-mix concrete production and the results of the empirical work.
