    The article contains a comparative analysis of Italian diary (1781) by Nikolay Lvov and Diary of the journey to France and Italy (1784–86) by August Fryderyk Moszynski. Both travellers were architects of the Enlightenment period. In Italy they were interested first of all in architecture (especially of the churches) and the fine arts (especially painting). The route of their journey proceeded, among others, through Livorno, Rome, Pisa and Florence. In the diaries of Lvov and Moszynski there are, among others, descriptions of the hospital in Livorno, churches in Rome and Florence and The Leaning Tower of Pisa.

    Aim: The aim of the article is to show: 1) that the reasoning of perfectly rational players presented in 1994 by the author of the Traveler's Dilemma Kaushik Basu is incorrect and therefore leads to wrong conclusions, 2) how the reasoning of these players should look like and what solution it leads to.   Design / Research methods: Logical analysis.   Conclusions / findings: Perfectly rational Traveler’s Dilemma players should use, according to game theory, so-called retrograde (iterative) induction. This is wrong, as in the set of Traveler’s Dilemma games results the principle of transitivity is not met. We believe that perfectly rational players will achieve a better result when they make a random decision from a suitably limited set of decisions. After applying this method of decision making, perfectly rational players will achieve a result similar to those obtained by real players in experiments. Thus, the paradox described in the theory of games disappears, that perfectly rational players achieve worse results than real players   Originality / value of the article: A new way of making decisions in the Traveler’s Dilemma game.   Implications of the research: A new way of making decisions in other games similar to the Traveler’s Dilemma may allow to find new solutions in these games.  Limitations of the research: The described decision-making method can potentially be used in decision-making situations when the following five conditions are met: 1) the set of possible decisions of each player is greater than 2, 2) the winning matrix is known to both players and both know the purpose of their choices, 3) when it is played once with an unknown opponent, 4) when both players have to make their decision without knowing the opponent's choice, 5) when there is no decision, which is a stable balance point or when it is, but its choice means that the player does not achieve a satisfying result.

    Bezpieczeństwo pasażerów na dworcach kolejowych w Polsce w ostatnich latach wyraźnie się poprawiło. Jest to zasługą Grupy PKP S.A., która podejmuje szereg działań, aby podróżni czuli się bezpiecznie. W tym celu podejmowana jest intensywna współpraca z odpowiednimi służbami oraz firmami na rynku. W artykule omówiono politykę, jaką prowadzi Grupa PKP S.A. na rzecz bezpieczeństwa pasażerów, a także wyszczególniono działania i środki podejmowane w tym zakresie. Przedstawiono również kwestie związane z subiektywnym odczuwaniem przez ludzi bezpieczeństwa na dworcach kolejowych. Omówiono źródła niepewności i czynniki wpływające na te indywidualne odczucia. Intensywna polityka związana z remontami i modernizacjami dworców ma na celu poprawę warunków obsługi podróżnych. Dąży się do sytuacji, w której dworce będą dostępne dla wszystkich. Ostatni podrozdział poświęcony jest bezpieczeństwu osób niepełnosprawnych.
    Passenger safety at the polish railway stations has been visibly improved in the last years. This is contribution of the PKP S.A. Group, which undertakes many actions in the trains and at railway stations, in order to make travelers feel safety. For this purpose PKP works closely with other departments and companies on the market. In the paper the policy of PKP Group towards passenger safety was discussed and numerous actions and means in this area were listed. In the paper issues related to people subjective feeling of the safety at railway stations were also presented. Sources of uncertainty and factors influencing on these individual feelings were described. In the last part of paper safety of people with disabilities was dedicated. Very intensive policy related to railway station modernizations is intended due to improve conditions of the passenger service. Desirable situation is, that railway stations are available for everyone.

    Opis:
    It is becoming standard practice for many departments of transportation (DOTs) to use incentive/disincentive clauses (also known as road user costs) with contractors to stay on or ahead of schedule. These road user costs are clauses that DOTs use to calculate a monetary amount to encourage contractors to complete work prior to milestone dates and/or limit the time specified on the contract. The monetary amounts are typically vehicle operating costs and vehicle delay costs encumbered by highway users resulting from construction, maintenance, or rehabilitation activity. In this paper, we propose an innovative way of calculating these costs using varied values of time based on trip purpose and departure time. In addition, we use advanced pre-trip and en route traveler information to determine the influence it has on route choice. Several scenarios are modeled using an advanced, simulation-based dynamic traffic assignment model. The goal of this paper is to identify the governing factors that contribute to road use costs by determining different approaches to derive the value one places on a trip. The approach to this study is twofold: first several research methods were used to derive the value of time. Second, the use of advanced traveler information is introduced to determine if it plays a critical role in route choice. The proposed methodology shows differences in road user cost calculations. Which approach would be more receptive to a contractor while proposing roadway construction? A case study of a roadway construction project in El Paso, Texas, is used to compare different approaches to calculate road user costs.

Artykuł traktuje mało znany epizod jako przykład działania XIX-wiecznego dyskursu podróżniczego, który używany był przez człowieka Zachodu do opisu Innego. Ten przeniknięty rasistowskimi przedsądami dyskurs ma na celu tyleż poznanie obcych, co ich egzotyzację. Ma wprowadzić znaczący dystans między prezentującym się jako przedstawiciel rozwiniętej cywilizacji obserwatorem a pozbawianym kultury, wpisywanym w porządek natury obserwowanym. Zajmujący się wybranymi fragmentami relacji Le Bona artykuł używa wprowadzonej przez Mary Louise Pratt kategorii „antypodboju”, aby pokazać sposób, w jaki uczony odbiera opisywanemu ludowi historię na rzecz historii naturalnej, pozbawiając tym samym podmiotowości. W ten sposób zapis poczynionych przez Francuza w trakcie wyprawy tatrzańskiej spostrzeżeń jawi nam się jako model innych relacji – przenikniętych „naukowym” rasizmem tekstów, które miały służyć jako intelektualne zaplecze europejskiego kolonializmu.
    The following paper focuses on the racial politics of the account of renowned French sociologist and psychologist Gustave Le Bon’s 1879 journey to Tatra Mountains and Podhale region, published in 1887 by the Warsaw-based magazine “Wędrowiec”. The paper treats this lesser known episode as a showcase for the specific type of racist travel discourse used by the 19th century Westerner to describe the Other. The purpose of this discourse is as well to get to know non-Western people as to make them seem more exotic and, by distancing those who observe from those who are observed, to dispute non-Westerners status as fellow civilized human beings. The paper examines fragments of Le Bon’s text and, by using Mary Louise Pratt’s idea of anti-conquest, shows how author deprives inhabitants of Podhale region of subjectivity by making them objects of natural history study. The following article presents Frenchman’s report as an example of travel narrative employing scientific racism to describe the Other, a type of text which was used as an intellectual justification for the European colonial endeavors.

    Opis:
    The purpose of that article is to analyze the scope of application of the new directive on package travel and linked travel arrangements. The new directive aims to modernise the rules on package travel currently contained in Directive 90/314/EEC, by increasing the protection of consumers purchasing online travel combinations. The inclusion of customised combinations of travel services, in particular those purchased on-line, in the scope of the new directive will change significantly the scope of application of the protection offered to travelers. It is estimated that the new directive will double the share of protected contracts from 23% to 46% in the EU travel market. New directive will increase legal certainty and transparency for both travellers and businesses, reduce consumer detriment associated with such combinations and ensure fairer competition between travel businesses. New directive will be based on full harmonisation, with a few limited exceptions where, because of different legal traditions or approaches, Member States will be allowed to maintain different solutions. The process of implementation of the new directive will be diffi cult because of the complexity of that legal text and its serious consequences for the whole tourism industry in Poland.
    Niniejsza praca ma na celu analizowanie zakresu stosowania nowej dyrektywy w sprawie imprez turystycznych i powiązanych usług turystycznych. Celem dyrektywy jest modernizacja przepisów dotyczących imprez turystycznych w dyrektywie 90/314/EEC przez zwiększenie ochrony konsumentów, kupujących podróży przez Internet. Obejmowanie zakresem dyrektywy opracowanych usług turystycznych, zwłaszcza tych kupowanych przez Internet, znacznie zmieni zakres ochrony zapewnianej podróżnikom. Szacuje się, że nowa dyrektywa zwiększy udział umów chronionych z 23% do 46% rynku podróży w Unii Europejskiej. Nowa dyrektywa zwiększy poziom pewności i przejrzystości dla podróżników, jak i przedsiębiorstw, zredukuje problemy konsumentów i zapewni bardziej uczciwą konkurencję między przedsiębiorstwami turystycznymi. Nowa dyrektywa będzie polegała na całkowitej harmonizacji, z kilkoma ograniczonymi wyjątkami, gdzie państwa członkowskie będą miały możliwość dostosowania innych rozwiązań z powodu innych systemów prawnych. Implementacja nowej dyrektywy będzie niełatwa z powodu złożoności tekstu prawnego i skutków prawnych dla całego rynku turystycznego w Polsce.
