One of the main problems within cities is the lack of convenient public transport connections, which offer passengers a comprehensive and efficient means of transportation from one place to another. Urban transport integration is intended to improve the functioning of public transport and, thus, is an activity that significantly contributes to the quality of transport services within cities. Transport integration may include solutions provided by urban public transport, as well as solutions based on the integration of public transport with individual transport modes. This article presents a comprehensive approach to the integration of urban transport. Exemplary tools integrating urban transport, along with examples of modelling in software for traffic microsimulation, are shown.

The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of fare integration on the demand for public transport and the role of IT technologies and cash-free payments in this process. The paper presents the results of a critical literature review of studies conducted in this area so far. This approach enables the integration of theoretical and empirical findings, and perspectives of fragmented and interdisciplinary studies. Fare integration in cities is one of the factors that increase the demand for urban public transport services. This results from an improved image of public transport, easier promotion of services, more eligible passenger information, and easier use of services due to the uniform regulations and fares. In addition, for travelers, fare integration means cheaper services because they do not need to buy separate tickets corresponding to various organizers or carriers. The implementation of solutions from the field of fare integration is also related to costs; one can primarily mention the transaction costs and those related to the introduction of new solutions into the sales systems. The increase in the demand for public transport services due to the implementation of fare integration, results in external benefits that affect the sustainability of city transport systems and, thereby, justifies the funding of it by the public sector, which is accountable for ensuring efficient public transport.

W artykule omówiono tematykę możliwości wdrażania rozwiązań integracyjnych transportu miejskiego z transportem kolejowym na obszarze zurbanizowanym miasta Lębork w oparciu o wyniki badań pierwotnych, które potwierdziły słuszność tej koncepcji. Zaproponowane kierunki rozwiązań integracyjnych znajdują odzwierciedlenie w realizowanym projekcie „Lęborski Węzeł Przesiadkowy”, który stanowi realną szansę na usprawnienie funkcjonowania transportu zbiorowego w tym regionie. Zgromadzone opinie respondentów na temat propozycji przebudowy układu linii autobusowych w Lęborku, wraz ze zgłaszanymi postulatami dotyczącymi poprawy stopnia obsługi komunikacyjnej dworca kolejowego w Lęborku, przystanku kolejowego Lębork Mosty oraz dzielnicy Nowy Świat, mogą stanowić podstawę do wdrożenia działań integrujących system transportu miejskiego i kolejowego. W ten sposób możliwe byłoby skonstruowanie spójnej, jednolitej oferty przewozowej, umożliwiającej sprawne realizowanie podróży w tej części województwa pomorskiego.
The subject of implementing integration solutions in public transport is an important issue for improving the functioning of transport systems in the regions. In connection with the progressive development of individual motorisation and deepening infrastructural and organizational problems in collective transport, the importance of implementing improvements and coordinating the functioning of transport is gradually increasing. The article discusses the subject of the possibilities of implementing integration solutions for urban transport with rail transport on the Lębork urbanized area based on the results of primary research. That results confirmed the validity of this concept. The proposed directions of integration solutions are reflected in the implemented project „Lęborski Węzeł Przesiadkowy”, which is a real opportunity to improve the functioning of public trans-port in this region. The respondents’ opinions on the proposals for the reconstruction of the bus lines layout in Lębork along with the postulates regarding the improvement of the communication service of the railway station in Lębork and the Lębork Mosty stop and also in the Nowy Świat district could be the basis for implementing measures integrating the urban and railway transport system. On this way, it would be possible to construct a coherent, uniform transport offer, enabling efficient travel implementation in this part of the Pomeranian Voivodship.

Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) jest innowacyjną koncepcją, której zastosowanie wnosi znaczny wkład w integrację transportu. Koncepcja ta ukształtowała się w następstwie pojawienia się nowych rodzajów usług transportowych oraz postępu technologicznego, zwłaszcza technologii ICT i mobilnych. MaaS ma potencjał, aby poprawić wykorzystanie zasobów i przyczynić się do zmniejszenia liczby samochodów osobowych w zatłoczonych miastach. Celem artykułu jest synteza obecnego stanu wiedzy na temat koncepcji Mobility-as-a-Service, ocena stopnia zaawansowania wdrożenia systemów MaaS w Europie, dyskusja wyników badań dotyczących korzyści z zastosowania tych rozwiązań, jak również wykazanie, iż wdrożenie MaaS pogłębia integrację transportu. Metody badawcze obejmują przegląd literatury oraz dedukcyjną metodę badawczą. Badanie wykazało, że nie osiągnięto konsensusu co do zakresu systemu MaaS, chociaż sugestia jest taka, aby zaliczać do nich rozwiązania, które mają co najmniej zintegrowany moduł zamawiania usług i dokonywania płatności, oczywiście poza możliwością zaplanowania podróży różnymi środkami transportu. Nie ma obecnie jeszcze wystarczających danych na temat kosztów i korzyści systemów MaaS, ani kompleksowych analiz, jak wpływają one na wzorce podróżowania i zachowania użytkowników. Natomiast pierwsze fragmentaryczne badania pilotażowych wdrożeń MaaS potwierdzają występowanie korzyści dla różnych grup interesariuszy. Analiza poziomów i zakresu integracji w systemach MaaS wykazała, iż przyczyniają się one do pogłębienia integracji usług transportowych. Wyniki badań zaprezentowanych w tym artykule mogą stanowić przyczynek do pogłębionych badań nad istotą i efektami zastosowania Mobility-as-a-Service.
Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) is an innovative concept that makes a significant contribution to transport integration. This concept has developed following the emergence of new types of transport services and technological advances, in particular ICT and mobile technology. MaaS has the potential to improve the use of assets and contributes to a reduction in the number of passenger cars in congested cities. The aim of the article is to synthesise the current state of knowledge on the Mobility-as-a-Service concept, to assess the degree of the implementation of MaaS systems in Europe, to discuss the results of research on the benefits of using these solutions, as well as to show the role of MaaS in transport integration. The research methodology includes a literature review and a deductive research method. The research has shown that any consensus has been reached on the scope of the MaaS system, although the suggestion is that they should include solutions that have at least an integrated module for booking services and payments, in addition to the possibility of planning a journey by different transport means. Currently there are neither sufficient data on the costs and benefits of MaaS systems, nor comprehensive analyses how they affect travel patterns and user behaviour. However, the first fragmented studies of MaaS pilot implementations confirm the existence of benefits for different stakeholder groups. The analysis of levels and the scope of the integration in MaaS systems confirmed that they contribute to the deepening of the integration of transport services. The results of the research presented in this article can be a reason for in-depth research into the essence and effects of Mobility-as-a-Service applications.

Organizacja miejskiego transportu zbiorowego to jedno z zadań własnych gminy, które może być realizowane w różnych formach: samodzielnie w ramach posiadanych przez gminę zasobów lub przez podmioty zewnętrzne, którym zadanie to zlecane jest bezpośrednio bądź też w drodze przetargu konkurencyjnego. Ostatnia dekada XX w. to okres zmian w organizacji miejskiego transportu zbiorowego w Polsce. W największych miastach rozdzielono organizację od wykonawstwa przewozów i powołano zarządy transportu miejskiego. W artykule zidentyfikowano oraz scharakteryzowano czynniki wpływające na decyzję rozdzielenia organizacji i wykonywania przewozów. Omówiono również wady i zalety różnych form organizacyjno-prawnych zarządów transportu miejskiego, a także zaprezentowano przykłady zarządów funkcjonujących w Polsce.
Organizing local passenger transport is one of the own tasks of the municipality, which may be realized in various forms: by the municipality itself, within its resources or by external providers, who are ordered to complete these tasks directly or in the tender process. The last decade of the twentieth century was the time of changes in the organization of public transport in Poland. In the largest cities there was a separation between the functions of transport organizing and service providing and the boards of public transport were established. The factors, which influence on the decision to separate these two functions, were identified and characterized in the article. The article discuss also the advantages and disadvantages of various organizational and legal forms of public transport boards, and presents the examples of public transport boards operating in Poland.

Jak zauważają M. Michałowska i R. Tomanek, problematyka integracji systemów transportowych nie jest nowym zagadnieniem badawczym, jednak w warunkach liberalizacji rynków transportowych nabiera szczególnego znaczenia. Pojęcie integracji jest stosowane w wielu aspektach i może odnosić się do wielu dziedzin życia społeczno-gospodarczego. Integracja w zakresie transportu prowadzi, w szerokim znaczeniu, do stworzenia jednolitego, kompleksowego systemu transportowego. Jak zauważa J. Burnewicz, systemy transportowe powinny być strukturami materialnie i funkcjonalnie zintegrowanymi, istnieją bowiem po to, by integrować przestrzennie i czasowo obsługiwane sfery życia gospodarczego i społecznego. Integracja systemów transportowych jest istotnym warunkiem realizacji zróżnicowanych celów ekonomicznych, społecznych i ekologicznych w danym systemie społeczno-gospodarczym, a więc - warunkiem spełnienia wymogów idei zrównoważonego rozwoju. Procesy integracji szczególnego znaczenia nabierają w aspekcie przepływów osób; konieczność integracji tego subsystemu transportu wynika w głównej mierze z rosnących wymagań jakościowych zgłaszanych pod jego adresem przez użytkowników. Integracja w odniesieniu do systemów transportu pasażerskiego może i powinna być rozumiana wielowymiarowo, bowiem wielowymiarowe procesy integracji i koordynacji są, zdaniem S. Krawca, istotne dla prawidłowego funkcjonowania całego systemu transportowego.
The concept of integration is used in many aspects and can relate to many areas of social and economic life. As observed by M. Michałowska and R. Tomanek, the issue of integration of transport systems is not a new research issue, but in terms of liberalization of transport markets, it takes on a special significance. Integration of transport, in a broad sense leads to the creation of a single, comprehensive transport system. As noted by J. Burnewicz, transport systems should be material and functionally integrated structures, since they exist in order to integrate spheres of economic and social development with regard to space and time. The integration of transport systems is an essential condition for the realization of different economic, social and environmental objectives in the particular socio-economic system, and thus meeting the requirements of sustainable development. Integration processes are particularly important in terms of flows of passengers. The need for integration of this transport subsystem results mainly from the increasing quality requirements reported by its users. Integration with respect to passenger transport systems can and should be understood in a multidimensional sense, because as stated by S. Krawiec, multi-dimensional processes of integration and coordination are essential for the proper functioning of the entire transport system.

Rosnąca mobilność ludności i wysoki stopień wykorzystania transportu indywidualnego w podróżach przyczyniają się niejednokrotnie do eskalacji problemów związanych m.in. z zanieczyszczeniem powietrza. Negatywne skutki działalności transportowej zmuszają władze samorządowe do poszukiwania rozwiązań służących zrównoważonemu rozwojowi transportu. Jednym ze słusznych kierunków, jaki obrały władze samorządowe Małopolski, jest rozwój połączeń kolejowych. Utworzono tzw. System Kolei Aglomeracyjnej obejmujący swoim zasięgiem zwłaszcza północną część województwa i jego stolicę. Dla zwiększenia dostępności systemu wprowadzono szereg rozwiązań sprzyjających podróżom zintegrowanym. W artykule przedstawiono jedno z takich rozwiązań, jakim są autobusowe linie dowozowe obsługujące stację kolejową Wieliczka Rynek Kopalnia linii kolejowej SKA 1. Scharakteryzowane zostały poszczególne składowe oferty przewozowej zachęcające do korzystania z podróży łączonej autobus+pociąg oraz przedstawiony został stopień wykorzystania tych linii w obsłudze linii kolejowej, jak również samego miasta Wieliczka.
The increasing mobility of the population and a high degree of use of individual transport in travels often result with the escalation of problems related to – among others – with air pollution. Negative effects of transport activities force local governments to seek solutions for sustainable transport development. One of the right directions chosen by the Małopolska local government, there is the development of railway connections. A so-called the Agglomeration Railway System (SKA) covering in particular the northern part of the voivodeship and its capital. To increase the availability of the system, a number of solutions have been introduced that favor integrated traveling. The article presents one of solutions: bus lines servicing the Wieliczka Rynek-Kopalnia railway station of the SKA 1 railway line. The article describes individual components of the transport offer to encourage the use of combined bus + train and the degree of using these lines in the service of the railway line as well as the city of Wieliczka.

Continuously growing mobility which has been observed from many decades means that societies are increasingly More affected by the negative aspects of transport such as: accidents, emissions, vibration and noise causing social, Economic and environmental problems. With about 1.3 million people killed in transport each year and accident costs Exceeding EUR 200 billion in the European Union (more than the European Commission’s annual budget), there is an urgent need for action in the area of transport safety. There are also estimates suggesting that transport causes half of today’s environmental pollution. The aim of this article is to present an idea of transport safety integration as a modern and effective approach toward sustainable transport which should be implemented on the European level.

Jednym z elementów kształtowania zrównoważonego rozwoju miejskiego systemu transportowego jest integracja publicznego transportu zbiorowego. Często na terenie miast czy aglomeracji miejskich pasażerskie usługi transportowe świadczy kilka przedsiębiorstw transportowych, w których obowiązuje zróżnicowana polityka biletowo-cenowa. Głównym celem integracji publicznego transportu zbiorowego jest ujednolicenie polityki obowiązującej na danym obszarze terytorialnym. Dzięki temu możliwe jest ułatwienie pasażerom korzystania z komunikacji miejskiej. Może przekładać się również na wzrost liczby pasażerów korzystających z publicznego transportu zbiorowego. W artykule przedstawiono oraz omówiono wyniki badań dotyczących procesu integracji oraz funkcjonowania publicznego transportu zbiorowego na terenie wybranych gmin aglomeracji poznańskiej, które zostały przeprowadzone wśród mieszkańców tego terenu.
One of the elements of creating sustainable urban transport system is integration of public transport. Very often in cities or agglomerations public transport is provided by several transport companies with different ticket policy. The most important aim of integration of public transport is to unify the ticket-pricing policy on defined territorial area. This makes it possible to facilitate for passengers the use of public transport. This also into an increased number of passengers using public transport. The article presents and discusses the results of research on the integration process and the functioning of public transport in selected municipalities of the Poznań agglomeration, which was conducted among residents of the area.

Opis:
The article presents the problems and the importance of integration of public transport on the basis of Polish and EU documents relating to public transport, as well as gives examples of solutions that integrate urban public transport in Poland and worldwide. Public transport is a special kind of transport designed for fulfilling needs of city (communal) in range of urban and suburban transport of inhabitants. The main task of public transport is to enable the mobility of people with retaining the same conditions which are given by passengers. Issues concerning the public transport development (improvement in quality of public transport services in the all necessity and essence of its integration) are bringing up in many important Polish documents (e.g. State Transport Policy) and EU (e.g. White Paper, Green Paper). An example concern the solution of urban public transport integration in the country and world can be quoted of some solutions: implementation of the uniform tariff system, interchanges, share lanes for means of public transport, share bus and tram, share bus-tram routes implementation of the double system tram.
Artykuł prezentuje problemy oraz istotę integracji transportu publicznego na podstawie dokumentów Polski i UE, podaje przykłady rozwiązań integrujących miejski transport publiczny w Polsce i na świecie. Miejski transport publiczny jest specyficznym rodzajem transportu przeznaczonym do zaspokajania potrzeb miasta (gminy) w zakresie miejskich i podmiejskich przewozów mieszkańców. Zadaniem miejskiego transportu publicznego jest umożliwienie przemieszczania się osób z zachowaniem pewnych warunków stawianych przez przemieszczające się osoby. Kwestie związane z rozwojem miejskiego transportu publicznego (poprawa jakości świadczonych usług publicznego transportu w tym konieczność oraz istota jego integracji) poruszane są w wielu ważnych dokumentach Polski (np. Polityka transportowa Państwa) oraz UE (Biała Księga, Zielona Księga). Jako przykłady dotyczące konkretnych rozwiązań integrujących miejski transport publiczny w kraju i na świecie można przytoczyć: wspólna taryfa dla transportu publicznego, węzły przesiadkowe, wspólne pasy, wspólne przystanki autobusowo – tramwajowe, wspólne trasy autobusowo – tramwajowe, wprowadzenie tramwaju dwusystemowego.

Ports operations become more capital intensive, labour saving and space consuming. Due to globalization processes and liberalization of the EU transport markets the seaports are under the huge competitive pressure put mainly by container transport operators committed in the logistic transport chains. Polish seaports have difficulties in facing such a competitive environment.

Teoria gier pomimo wielu przykładów zastosowania w modelowaniu ruchu i analizach transportowych jest narzędziem, po które w Polsce sięga się rzadko. Jest to błędem, zwłaszcza w przypadkach, gdy analizy transportowe dotyczą sytuacji konfliktowych. W artykule zaprezentowano przykład zastosowania teorii gier dla zaprojektowania sieci transportu autobusowego w Poznaniu i sąsiednich gminach w ramach koncepcji integracji transportu publicznego.
Game theory, despite many examples of traffic modelling and transport analysis is a tool rarely used in Poland. It is a mistake, especially in case when transport analysis regards conflict situations. The paper presents an example of the application of game theory to the bus network design in Poznan and in surrounding communities within the concept of public transport integration.

Structural changes in trade and transport environment have come about in response to globalization of production centres, factors and consumption patterns coupled with technological advances in ship and shipping methods. The resulting demand pressure induced on supply chains means that supply chain partners must innovate to remain afloat. On the other hand, ports have been at the receiving end being a critical node in the supply chain. Through content analysis and review of extant literature, the structural changes in the global transport chains were assessed to determine their broad implications on ports. The findings suggest that ports must adopt proactive measures aimed at accommodating strategic interests of shippers and shipping lines/carriers which constitute their major supply chain customers. In line with previous studies, this paper makes a case for adoption of efficiency measures in ports for sustained viability given the prevailing fluid transport environment.
