Opis:: The paper presents the results of research and analysis of voice data transmission quality in IP packet networks. It analyses mechanisms allowing for the assessment of packet telephony data transmission quality. Possible transmission quality levels and adequate quality metrics, applicable in the recommendations of standardisation organisations, as well as suggested limit values conditioning acceptable voice data transmission quality were indicated and discussed. A packet network model was designed and tested, taking into account VoIP architecture supporting various audio codecs used for voice compression. Transmission mechanisms based on audio codecs G.711, G.723, G.726, G.728 and G.729 were investigated. It was shown that for delay-sensitive traffic which fluctuates beyond its nominal rate, selected codecs have an advantage over others and allow for better transmission quality of VoIP traffic with guaranteed bandwidth and delay.

Opis:: The paper presents the examination of quality of transmission designed and built based on IP/MPLS technology as well as BGP and OSPF routing protocols of corporate network. It indicates the factors forming and affecting the service quality in IP network, including QoS support network architecture, particularly the architecture of DiffServ differentiated services. Main problems occurring in these architectures have been discussed. The analysis of data and voice transmission via IP network of Best Effort architecture and in Differentiated Service architecture of differentiated transmission quality have been conducted. It has been presented that the MPLS technology may be effectively applied in building corporate networks requiring network services of highest quality parameters with lossless packet transmission and maximum delay guarantee.

Opis:: In the age of digital media, delivering broadcast content to customers at an acceptable level of quality is one of the most challenging tasks. The most important factor is the efficient use of available resources, including bandwidth. An appropriate way of managing the digital multiplex is essential for both the economic and technical issues. In this paper we describe transmission quality measurements in the DAB+ broadcast system. We provide a methodology for analysing parameters and factors related with the efficiency and reliability of a digital radio link. We describe a laboratory stand that can be used for transmission quality assessment on a regional and national level.

Opis:: This paper describes simulations of speech sequences transmission for intrusive measurement of voice transmission quality of service (VTQoS) in the environment of IP networks. The aim of the simulations was to investigate the impact of the different durations of speech sequences on speech quality from the jitter rate and packet loss point of view in IP networks. The ITU-T G.729 and ITU-T G.723.1 encoding schemes were used for the purpose of the simulations. The assessment of speech quality was realized by means of perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ) algorithm. A comparison of the impact of different durations of speech sequences on speech quality and determination of the optimal duration of speech sequence for measurements of speech quality in telecommunication networks, is the aim of this paper.

Opis:: Podstawowym parametrem sieci WLAN jest przepustowość transmisji. Zdefiniowane w standardzie przepustowości maksymalne teoretyczne są w warunkach rzeczywistych ograniczane z jednej strony jakością kanału transmisyjnego, a z drugiej sposobem działania samego standardu. W przypadku standardu IEEE 802.11 zastosowana metoda komunikacji DCF wprowadza obowiązkowe przerwy w nadawaniu – interwały czasowe IFS, które powodują zmniejszenie przepustowości osiąganej w jednostce czasu. W artykule omówiono różne ulepszenia metody DCF, zaproponowane w wyniku prac naukowo-badawczych. Porównano je pod względem przydatności w rzeczywistych zastosowaniach.
The basic parameter of the WLAN is transmission output. The defined in the standard of output capacity maximum theoretical values are in the real conditions limited, on the one hand, by the transmission channel quality and, on the other hand, by the way in which the very standard acts. In the case of standard IEEE 802.11, the applied method of communication DCF (distributed coordination function) introduces the obligatory pauses in broadcasting – temporal intervals IFS which cause a reduction of the output capacity achieved in a time unit. In their article, the authors discussed various improvements of the DCF method proposed in result of research works. They are compared in terms of their usefulness in the real applications.

Opis:: Publikacja przedstawia opracowany system mikroprocesorowy, służący do pomiaru zależności efektywnego czasu transmisji od odległości pomiędzy urządzeniami w sieci ZigBee, wyniki uzyskanych pomiarów oraz nowatorski sposób opisu opóźnień komunikacyjnych w sieci bezprzewodowej za pomocą modelu probabilistycznego. Opracowany system pozwala również na badanie innych parametrów transmisyjnych. Jego głównym zadaniem jest pomiar czasu pomiędzy wysłaniem pakietu danych, a informacją z modułu odbiorczego potwierdzającą odbiór.
This paper presents a microprocessor system for measuring the influence of a distance between ZigBee network devices on the effective transmission time. The system was developed by the authors. The measurement results obtained are given. A new way of communication delays in a wireless network is described. The developed system allows studying the effects of various obstacles in the transmission, in particular the impact of suppression of free space. The measuring system consists of a microcontroller to supervise the broadcasting and receiving data. Its main task is to measure the time between sending a data packet and receiving information from the module confirming receipt. The measurement result is stored in a file in real time. The system is easy to use. The XBee ZigBee and XBee-Pro modules by Digi International were used for taking measurements. They provide live coverage of two or more elements of the final network, allowing for the construction of wide area networks based on star and mesh configuration. A new probabilistic model was used to describe the delay. It allows you also to save the delay as well as the relative number of packets received during each transmission and retransmission of the data. The model is simple to implement in simulation programs. The data obtained from measurements show that increase in the distance between the modules has an impact on the number of retransmission and lost data packets. This enables designating certain guidelines to aid the design of a wireless network.

Opis:: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly limited user mobility, not least among students. Remote learning had a particular impact on resource allocation in relation to using terrestrial cellular networks, especially 4G systems in urban agglomerations. This paper presents the results of a quality evaluation of an outdoor environment, carried out between 2019 and 2021 on the campus of a technical university. Annual studies are conducted using our own custom-built mobile application, installed on 50 mobile devices (i.e., smartphones) running Android OS. This study aims to determine the impact of reduced user mobility on access parameters in mobile networks, that is, both download and upload throughput as well as delay (ping), with a particular focus on serving base transceiver stations (BTSs). This research scenario involves long-term evolution (LTE) compatible user equipment (UE) that operates under four Polish mobile network operators (MNO), which includes roaming connections and the newly launched 5G standard.

A review of the most important objective comparative methods used in assessing the quality of speech transmission in modern telecommunications networks is presented. Specified and investigated is the influence of factors degrading voice quality in selected networks and the general process of testing the quality of speech transmission is presented. Values of speech quality index considered as optimal and acceptable by the users are also proposed.

In this article present Power Line Communications (PLC) technology standards and regulations were examined. Short characterization of PLC channel made from standard power lines was presented. Results of measurements in a multi-apartment bulding in Poland were presented. In researches were also utilized the HomePlug 1.0 standard PLC mode.

Opis:: In the paper, we present the results of research of MPEG-2 streams transmission through CBR and VBR channel in ATM network. We applied not only experimental and measurement methods but analytical ones as well. A description of the proposed measurement station includes: installed hardware, created software and prepared experimental data. Next, we present the applied measurement method. In the following section, we define a term of the quality of multimedia transmission. The measurement results were compared with the results of the analytical station model. We proposed a functional description of dependence between ATM traffic parameters, video stream bit rate, and quality of multimedia transmission.

Opis:: Przedstawiono strukturę obiektywnego matematycznego modelu do oceny jakości transmisji mowy przez łącze telefoniczne. Model uwzględnia wiele obiektywnych czynników, wynikających z konfiguracji sieci oraz rodzaju elementów sieci, a także stosowanie w łączach zarówno nowych systemów transmisyjnych (GSM, DECT, systemy satelitarne), jak i nowych technologii (np. kodery o małej przepływności binarnej).
The article presents structure of objective computation model for evaluation of speech transmission via telephone connections. The said model embraces several objective factors resulting from network configuration and types of network components. It considers application of new transmission systems (GSM, DECT, satellite systems) and new transmission technologies like low bit rate codecs.
