This article presents some of the problems in translation of company documentation and the methods in teaching Bulgarian and Polish as a foreign language. The author analyses the language transfer, the difficulties that the students have in translating company documentation from Polish to Bulgarian and from Bulgarian to Polish and the mistakes they make.
Tematem artykułu jest problematyka tłumaczenia dokumentacji firmowej w nauczaniu języka bułgarskiego i polskiego jako obcego. Analizowane są trudności związane z tłumaczeniem dokumentacji z polskiego na bułgarski i z bułgarskiego na polski, interferencja międzyjęzykowa oraz błędy, które popełniają studenci podczas zajęć z tłumaczenia.

In this article the author examines the specific features of immersion approach in second language learning, gives brief information concerning the origin and further development of immersion programs. The article provides the description of closely related methods which are considered to be the theoretical basis for immersion programs. The author discloses the relevant elements and objective advantages of the approach mentioned above. The core features and possible modes of the method under analysis are defined.The article presents the way of applying immersion programs which has been worked out to prepare future lawyers for professional communication in a foreign language and introduced at National University “Odessa Academy of Law”, Ukraine.
W artykule autorka bada specyficzne cechy metody zanurzenia w języku obcymw trakcie jego nauki, analizuje początki i rozwój tego typu programów oraz opisuje metody, które mogą stanowić dla nich bazę teoretyczną. Przedstawione zostają istotne elementy i zalety powyższej metody, a także sposoby ich implemetnacji w programach przygotowujących prawników do profesjonalnej komunikacji w języku obcym wprowadzone na Uniwersytecie Narodowym “Odessa Academy of Law” na Ukrainie.

Despite the growing number of publications devoted to the potential of translation in modern teaching of foreign languages, in practice pedagogic translation is seen equivocally. This article is an attempt to confront the present-day discourse on pedagogic translation with school practice. Based on the results of a survey con-ducted in the first half of 2019 among teachers of French in the Silesian Voivodeship, the article presents teachers’ opinions on: 1) perceiving pedagogic translation on the basis of knowledge gained during studies and teaching trainings, 2) the purposes of using translations during foreign language classes, and 3) the factors which hinder the introduction of such exercises.

Opis:
Translation encompasses a complex activity in which we must transfer ideas from a source language to a target language, so that knowledge of the environment surrounding the working languages becomes a necessary competence to carry out the translation activity. Within this knowledge, we must necessarily include the cultural aspects of a language, either from an intercultural or an intracultural perspective. For the purpose of this article, we will focus on how intercultural elements can be developed in the classroom of Spanish as a foreign language. In order to accomplish our aim, we will expose based on empirical analysis the introduction of sociocultural items in university studies with beginners learners (A1-A2) and the result obtained, knowing that the primary objective of this curriculum is to prepare students to be translators or interpreters.

Opis:
At the end of the twentieth century due to the so-called cultural turn in the development of the theory of translation, the translator started to be seen as a mediator in the intercultural communication. In the translation process, he interprets and transfers experiences from the source culture to the target culture. The greatest difficulty in the process of translation is translating of the untranslatable elements, for which one searches for the best equivalents . In such a situation, each translator selects appropriate strategies and techniques of translation. Many problems arise, among others, in translation of terminology and cultural phenomena in different legal systems, such as the names of companies, governing bodies or the articles of association. The role of the teacher is to provide information about contemporary life and history of culture, present the genre patterns of relevant documents, show how to solve difficulties in the process of translation, create sensitivity to the phenomena seemingly identical in different cultures, and to indicate valuable sources of information on cultural and sociocultural background (bibliography).
Pod koniec XX wieku w związku z tzw. zwrotem kulturowym w rozwoju teorii przekładoznawczych tłumacz zaczął być postrzegany jako mediator w komunikacji międzykulturowej. W procesie tłumaczenia dokonuje on interpretacji i przeniesienia doświadczeń z kultury źródłowej do kultury docelowej. Największą trudnością w działalności translatorskiej jest tłumaczenie elementów nieprzekładalnych, dla których poszukuje się najlepszych ekwiwalentów translacyjnych. W takiej sytuacji każdorazowo tłumacz dokonuje wyboru odpowiednich strategii i technik translacyjnych. Wiele problemów powstaje m.in. przy tłumaczeniu terminologii i zjawisk kulturowych funkcjonujących w różnych systemach prawnych, np. nazw spółek kapitałowych, organów zarządzających, umowy spółki. Rolą nauczyciela tłumaczy jest przekazanie informacji realioznawczych i historycznokulturowych, prezentacja wzorców gatunkowych stosownych dokumentów, pokazanie sposobu rozwiązywania trudności translatorskich, kształtowanie wrażliwości w stosunku do zjawisk pozornie identycznych i wskazanie odpowiednich źródeł informacji na temat kultury i socjokultury omawianych kręgów kulturowych.

This article is a little tribute that a drama teacher, an editor and translator and a lecturer in English Literature would like to contribute to this Special Issue in Honour of Professor Dr Jan Kott, the most influential non-English speaking Shakespearean Critic in the second half of the 20th Century and early 21st Century. In the initial part of the essay we will overview Kott’s influence in the development of current Shakespearean tradition(s) in Spain from the early 1970s to the present day. In fact, his writings and critical views on William Shakespeare’s Works have been a decisive point in the development of new approaches to this playwright in some University Departments and Drama Schools in this country. The whole discussion will take the notion of hybrid and hybridization as the point of departure and we will draw some conclusions for discussing new critical thinking in Art (Science,) and Humanities.

Finland is widely recognized as one of the top countries to live in, with transparency and an excellent education system, which provides for top English proficiencies. The applied English translation case study that is examined in this paper focuses on Finnish into English legal translation teaching coupled with studying at the University of Helsinki. Scrutiny of the course structure, teaching materials and teaching methods was undertaken as part of the empirical research and the efficiency of the new teaching method and course structure inspired this paper. Methodology also included interviews/surveys to obtain up to date data. The case study in brief illustrates that students at the outset of the course acquired the basic concepts of Finnish and comparative law. This was done in a blended learning environment with reverse classroom makeups and small group discussions being used instead of teacherfronted lectures. Students were also asked to look up information on the Internet and undertake translations comments, company visits, and translating an entire court case. From the teacher’s perspective Moodle was used as a file managements system. Results suggest that the students are satisfied with this method and see it as beneficial. It can be used for benchmarking for legal translation courses in others settings.
 Finlandia jest uważana za jeden z najlepszych krajów do życia, biorąc pod uwagęprzejrzystość systemu i wysoki poziom edukacji, którego efektem jest wysoki poziom znajomościjęzyka angielskiego. Artykuł koncentruje się na nauczaniu tłumaczenia prawnego z językafińskiego na język angielski na Uniwersytecie w Helsinkach. Badaniom empirycznym poddanazostała struktura kursu, materiały i metody dydaktyczne. Inspiracją tego artykułu stały sięefektywność nowych metod badawczych oraz struktura kursu. W celu potwierdzenia danychzostały przeprowadzone wywiady i ankiety.Studium obrazuje, że w trakcie kursu studenci nabywają podstawy wiedzy z zakresuprawa fińskiego i komparatystyki prawa. Zastosowano zintegrowaną metodę kształcenia (blendedlearning) zamiast tradycyjnych wykładów, wykładowcy stosowali platformę Moodle. Rezultatywskazują, że studentom odpowiada taka metoda prowadzenia zajęć. Metoda ta może zostaćzastosowana także w kursach o innej tematyce niż tłumaczenie prawne.

According to ideas which have been presented in main course books and methodological guides, a lack of Ancient Greek in the process of teaching Modern Greek Philology has occurred. It could be a problem if Modern Greek philologists decide to be translators and interpreters of legal texts because the Greek language of law has archaisms, rigid structures and elements. My project deals with the function and amount of Ancient Greek in the curiculume of studies of Modern Greek Philology. I conclude that it is impossible to avoid Ancient Greek in the curriculum of Modern Greek Philology completely. I show the necessity of the Ancient Greek language because present Greek grammar and dictionaries cannot offer any insight in this field. Analysis of the curriculum affects the Modern Greek Language and Literature Department at Adam Mickiewicz University. The research material concludes with selected parts of Greek and Cypriot statutory acts which also affect the aforementiones issues.
W oparciu o koncepcje, jakie są obecne w głównych podręcznikach i materiałach metodologicznych podczas studiów w zakresie filologii nowogreckiej, brakuje w nich obecności języka starogreckiego. Brak tego przedmiotu może stać się problemem w sytuacji, kiedy filolodzy nowogreccy zdecydują się pracować jako tłumacze tekstów prawnych i prawniczych, ponieważ grecki język prawa charakteryzuje się obecnością wielu archaizmów, stałych zarchaizowanych struktur syntaktycznych i wyrazowych. Moja prezentacja dotyczy roli i rozmiaru języka starogreckiego w programie studiów w zakresie specjalizacji filologia nowogrecka i dochodzę do wniosku, iż nie można pominąć tego przedmiotu w programie studiów w sposób całkowity. Wskazuję konieczność obecności języka starogreckiego, ponieważ zauważyłam, iż współczesne podręczniki i słowniki języka nowogreckiego nie są wystarczające w tym zakresie. Przeprowadzona analiza dotyka kilku aspektów studiów w zakresie filologii nowogreckiej, jakie są prowadzone na Uniwersytecie im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu a materiał badawczy został oparty na wybranych fragmentach greckich i cypryjskich aktów normatywnych, które dotyczą wspomnianego problemu nauczania przekładu.

This paper discusses the stages of the translation process and their ideological features. Teaching translation, which includes an explanation and a simulation of the whole process, is supposed to acquire a new ideological dimension since it takes place in the classroom. The translation process is defined as a series of negotiations and decisions made by several “ideological subjects” involved in carrying out a particular translation service. The simulation of this process is suggested as a didactic method of teaching translation and indicated as a useful introduction into the market of professional translation. The study emphasizes a more active performance of students in learning translation. It also includes some didactic recommendations and explanations of the ideological burden always present in the practice of translation. The paper is mainly based on the Manipulation School approach in Translation Studies.

Techniques for developing lexical competences in teaching Italian for foreigners on advanced levels (B2–C2) Translation as a technique in foreign language teaching and learning has always had its followers and adversaries. Nowadays translation of a brief text is usually suggested at the end of a unit so as to consolidate the input offered during the previous lessons, but it can be also used as a technique to recall and put into practice single words in an easy and fast way. The teaching techniques presented in this article are based on associations between Italian words and also between the Italian language and the students’ mother tongue. The examples that we analyze enable us to consider translation as an effective way not only of fixing vocabulary items but also of drawing students’ attention to cultural differences between the two countries.

Ziel des Beitrags ist es zu zeigen, welchen Nutzen die Rechtsübersetzungsdidaktik aus der Anwendung einer rechtsvergleichenden Analyse im Übersetzungskurs ziehen kann. Ein Mikrovergleich lässt nämlich die Sachgebietskompetenz bei Studierenden situationsgebundene (Text)übersetzungsstrategien entwickeln und sensibilisiert sie für die jeweilige rechtssystemeigene Begrifflichkeit und Terminologie. Um dies zu veranschaulichen, werden zunächst die theoretischen Erkenntnisse über Rechtsübersetzung und Methoden der Rechtsvergleichung kurz dargestellt. Anschließend wird dann zum rechtstheoretischen Analysemodell von Constantinesco gegriffen und an einer Beispielanalyse seine Applizierbarkeit im übersetzungsdidaktischen Prozess gezeigt.
The aim of this paper is to show the benefits flowing from the use of a comparative legal analysis in the translation classes. The comparative microanalysis helps students to develop their domain competence and translation strategies in a given situational context and to raise awareness of issues related to the national legal concepts and terminology. To illuminate this subject we present first some fundamental theoretical assumptions in the field of legal translation and provide a short description of methodology using by the legal comparison. According to the Constantinescos Model of a comparative legal analysis we show then an example how this method can be applied to the Teaching Legal Translation.
Niniejszy artykuł porusza zagadnienie roli analizy prawno-porównawczej w dydaktyce tłumaczenia prawnego i prawniczego. Jej regularne zastosowanie w zajęciach tłumaczeniowych pozwala mianowicie na pogłębianie u studentów wiedzy fachowej z dziedziny prawa, pomaga budować kontekstowo strategie tłumaczeniowe tekstów fachowych oraz uwrażliwia studentów na specyfikę pojęciowości i terminologii odnoszącej się do danego systemu prawnego. W celu bliższego naświetlenia zagadnienia przedstawione zostaną najpierw wybrane zagadnienia teoretyczne związane ze specyfiką tłumaczenia prawnego i prawniczego oraz metodologią stosowaną w analizie prawno-porównawczej. Następnie w połączeniu z przykładową analizą przybliżony zostanie model analizy proponowany przez Constantinesco jako model, który może znaleźć zastosowanie także w dydaktyce przekładu jako uzupełnienie standardowej analizy tekstu.

Opis:
Expansion of IT-media in every field of human activity is one of the essential characteristics of modern time. This paper aims at presenting the role of electronic media in teaching translation in the field of law at the University of Osijek, Croatia, and analysing their impact on the motivation of the target group of students in the teaching process. The paper endeavours to provide some insight into the modern teaching practice and to analyse the interconnectedness of the use of electronic media and student motivation rather than to present some empirical research in the field. In the first part of the paper, a theoretical approach to teaching legal translation today is offered. In the main part, teaching legal translation by using modern media is presented on the examples of the Lifelong Learning Programme for Lawyer-Linguists at the Faculty of Law Osijek, and the course on legal translation within the German Language and Literature Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Osijek. The usage of electronic media in translation teaching is discussed with reference to the courses Introduction to the Theory of Legal Translation and Online Translation Tools and EU Vocabulary. Specific types of online materials, translation tools and sources are discussed from the point of view of student motivation. New media are also discussed from the perspective of their efficiency at different stages of translation teaching. In the concluding part, application of modern technologies in teaching legal translation is compared with other teaching methods, approaches and techniques. Finally, the author questions using IT as motivation tools in the higher education teaching discourse and argues for application of “moderate approach” in the teaching of legal translation.
Ekspansja mediów informatycznych w każdej dziedzinie życia jest jedną z podstawowych cech współczesnego życia. Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie roli mediów elektronicznych w nauczaniu przekładu prawniczego na Uniwersytecie w Osijek w Chorwacji oraz przeanalizowanie ich wpływu na motywację grupy docelowej studentów w procesie nauczania. Autorka stara się przedstawić nowoczesną praktykę dydaktyczną i przeanalizować wzajemne powiązania korzystania z mediów elektronicznych i motywację studentów. W pierwszej części artykułu zaproponowano teoretyczne podejście do nauczania tłumaczenia prawniczego. Na przykładach programu „Lifelong Learning Programme for Lawyer-Linguists” na Wydziale Prawa Osijek oraz kursu tłumaczenia prawniczego w ramach „German Language and Literature Studies” na Wydziale Nauk Humanistycznych i Społecznych w Osijek autorka prezentuje nauczanie tłumaczenia prawniczego przy użyciu nowoczesnych mediów. Wykorzystanie mediów elektronicznych w nauczaniu tłumaczeń omawia się w odniesieniu do kursów „Wprowadzenie do teorii tłumaczenia prawniczego i narzędzi tłumaczenia online oraz słownictwa UE”. Konkretne rodzaje materiałów online, narzędzi tłumaczeniowych i źródeł omawia się z punktu widzenia motywacji studentów. Nowe media są również analizowane pod kątem ich skuteczności na różnych etapach nauczania przekładu. Podsumowując, zastosowanie nowoczesnych technologii w nauczaniu tłumaczenia prawniczego porównuje się z innymi metodami, podejściami i technikami nauczania. Na koniec autorka kwestionuje zasadność wykorzystania narzędzi IT jako motywatorów w dyskursie dydaktycznym szkolnictwa wyższego i opowiada się za zastosowaniem „umiarkowanego podejścia” w nauczaniu tłumaczenia prawniczego.
