    The article reviews specific features of the Georgian linguistic world image shaped during the long period of its existence. The analysis covers the cultural concepts and language markers that reflect the national characteristics. Being a special kind of cross-cultural communication, translation is a process of overcoming the linguistic and cultural barriers, and includes transcoding of language code as well as the cultural one. On the one hand, it uncovers the discrepancies between the key concepts in different cultures, and on the other hand, it demonstrates existence of the similar language markers of the ‘global cultural space’ that is being formed.

    IATE i tłumaczenie aktów prawnych Unii Europejskiej – jakość, narzędzia, wyzwania IATE jest największą wielojęzyczną bazą danych na świecie. Zawiera 8 milionów terminów, zgrupowanych wokół 1,5 miliona pojęć; dniem i nocą korzystają z niej miliony użytkowników na całym świecie, a dla tłumaczy i terminologów pracujących w instytucjach europejskich stanowi ona nieodzowne narzędzie pracy i inspirujące źródło rozważań. Liczby te robią wrażenie, tym bardziej że wiele haseł cechuje się wysoką jakością; istnieje jednak druga strona medalu: konieczność wyszukiwania/opracowywania, zapisywania, aktualizacji i doskonalenia tak wielkiej ilości informacji – obejmujących w zasadzie wszystkie dziedziny wiedzy europejskiej – nieodłącznie wiąże się z olbrzymimi wyzwaniami. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono niektóre z tych problemów, które są świetnie znane praktykującym terminologom, tu jednak występują w znacznym nasileniu, ze względu na ogrom i stopień złożoności danych terminologicznych i systemu technologicznego służącego do ich rejestrowania. Do problemów tych należą: dane przejęte ze starszych baz, duplikaty, neologizmy, nowe pojęcia, ograniczenia techniczne i administracyjne itd. Podane przykłady – w językach francuskim i polskim, a często także angielskim i rumuńskim – mają za zadanie dać pogląd o codziennych, stale pojawiających się wyzwaniach, które wynikają z potrzeby zapewnienia rzetelnych, niedrogich, dobrze przemyślanych i zrozumiałych tłumaczeń przeznaczonych dla ponad 510 milionów obywateli europejskich. IATE et la traduction de la législation de l’Union européenne : qualité, instruments, défis IATE représente la plus vaste base de données terminologiques multilingue au monde. Elle contient plus de 8 millions de termes, disposés autour d’une constellation d’environ 1,5 millions de notions et utilisés, jour et nuit, par des traducteurs dans le monde entier. IATE est à la fois consultée et alimentée par les traducteurs et les terminologues des institutions européennes, pour lesquels la base est une étape obligatoire de leur travail quotidien. La multitude de ces termes est certainement impressionnante, eu égard notamment à la qualité des données en jeu. Elle induit aussi un immense effort et des défis de taille relativement au besoin d’enregistrer, d'actualiser, de nettoyer et de (ré)inventer une telle quantité de données, qui couvrent pratiquement tous les domaines de la connaissance en Europe. Dans cet article, nous vous présentons quelques-uns de ces défis, que la plupart des terminologues sauront reconnaître immédiatement, mais qui sont exacerbés par la quantité et la complexité de ces informations terminologiques et du système technique qui les contient – données historiques, doublons, néologismes, nouveaux concepts, contraintes techniques et administratives, entre autres. Nous vous proposons d’aborder quelques exemples, en français et en polonais, mais aussi en anglais et en roumain, afin de comprendre les défis avec lesquels nous nous colletons quotidiennement afin de fournir des traductions de qualité, économes en moyens, intelligentes et intelligibles pour les plus de 510 millions de citoyens européens.
    IATE is the largest multilingual terminology database in the world. Its more than 8 million terms, arrayed around 1.3 million concepts, are used, day and night, by translators all over the world, and represent daily ‘food’ and ‘food for thought’ for the translators and terminologists working for the European Institutions. These numbers are truly impressive, especially as many of the entries are of good quality, but part of the same truth is that the need to record, update, prune and (re)invent such a huge amount of information, covering basically all the domains of European knowledge, is inevitably accompanied by many daunting challenges. In this paper, we are going to present you some of these issues, which many terminology practitioners will be able to recognize at a glance, though magnified manifold due to the sheer size and depth of terminological data and of the technical system containing them—legacy information, duplication, neologisms, new concepts, technical and administrative constraints, and so many more. The examples given—in French and Polish, but also often in English and Romanian—, are intended to give a glimpse of the daily, year-round challenges which are brought about by the need to provide quality, cost-effective, intelligent and intelligible translations for the more than 510 million European citizens.

    More and more content is being created all over the world and it is simply not possible for all this to be translated by human translators. The profession of translators is far from being abolished, but it is subject to serious changes. Completely new tasks await the translators. It is not only machines that have to be “reprogrammed.” The same can be said about the profession of interpreters. Here, we are also dealing with the changing work environment, with price pressure, impact of new technologies, changes in working conditions. In the future, we need not only new skills, but also a completely new approach to our profession. Are we prepared for this and how are we prepared for it? What do we need for this? How can professional associations help?

    Based on the Guideline for MTI Training Program established by China National Committee for MTI (Master of Translation and Interpreting) Education, this research makes a successive survey on the status quo of master education of legal translators and interpreters from 2014-2016 to trace the changes and problems revealed in the five major universities of political science and law in China. By comparing and analyzing the information and facts collected on the training target, curriculum setting, teaching staff, platform construction, practical training as well as the employment in those five universities, the authors sort out the diversified advantages and features of the five law schools, and probe into the existing problems and difficulties in common. On the grounds of the survey and interview conducted by the authors in the recent years, the authors put forward the solutions and suggestions on the improvement and future development of Chinese MTI education.
    Autorzy, w oparciu o Przewodnik Programu Kształcenia Tłumaczy Pisemnych i Ustnych ogłoszony przez Chiński Państwowy Komitet Kształcenia Tłumaczy Pisemnych i Ustnych, badają status studiów magisterskich w Chinach w zakresie kształcenia tłumaczy prawniczych w latach 2014-2016. Celem jest wychwycenie zmian i problemów, jakie zaistniały w ramach przedmiotu badania na pięciu największych chińskich uniwersytetach. Analizie poddano informacje i dane rzeczywiste zgromadzone na zajęciach kursowych a zawarte w programach studiów, dotyczące kadry, struktury platformy, zajęć praktycznych oraz informacje dotyczące zatrudnienia w badanych uniwersytetach. Autorzy artykułu skategoryzowali ww. informacje według zalet i charakterystyki określonych pięciu wydziałów prawa i podjęli próbę zdefiniowania ich wspólnych problemów. W oparciu o przeprowadzone badania autorzy artykułu wskazują określone sugestie, możliwości rozwiązania danych problemów oraz potencjalne ulepszenia, które sprzyjać będą przyszłemu rozwojowi kształcenia tłumaczy prawnych w Chinach.
