Important information perceived by human vision comes from the low-level features of the image, which can be extracted by the Riesz transform. In this study, we propose a Riesz transform based approach to image fusion. The image to be fused is first decomposed using the Riesz transform. Then the image sequence obtained in the Riesz transform domain is subjected to the Laplacian wavelet transform based on the fractional Laplacian operators and the multi-harmonic splines. After Laplacian wavelet transform, the image representations have directional and multi-resolution characteristics. Finally, image fusion is performed, leveraging Riesz-Laplace wavelet analysis and the global coupling characteristics of pulse coupled neural network (PCNN). The proposed approach has been tested in several application scenarios, such as multi-focus imaging, medical imaging, remote sensing full-color imaging, and multi-spectral imaging. Compared with conventional methods, the proposed approach demonstrates superior performance on visual effects, contrast, clarity, and the overall efficiency.

Opis:
Recognizing faces under various lighting conditions is a challenging problem in artificial intelligence and applications. In this paper we describe a new face recognition algorithm which is invariant to illumination. We first convert image files to the logarithm domain and then we implement them using the dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DTCWT) which yields images approximately invariant to changes in illumination change. We classify the images by the collaborative representation-based classifier (CRC). We also perform the following sub-band transformations: (i) we set the approximation sub-band to zero if the noise standard deviation is greater than 5; (ii) we then threshold the two highest frequency wavelet sub-bands using bivariate wavelet shrinkage. (iii) otherwise, we set these two highest frequency wavelet sub-bands to zero. On obtained images we perform the inverse DTCWT which results in illumination invariant face images. The proposed method is strongly robust to Gaussian white noise. Experimental results show that our proposed algorithm outperforms several existing methods on the Extended Yale Face Database B and the CMU-PIE face database.

Opis:
Traffic surveillance provides crucial data for the operation of intelligent transportation systems. The growing number of cameras in the transport system poses a problem for the efficient processing of surveillance data. Processing of video data for extracting traffic parameters is usually done using image processing methods and requires substantial processing resources. An alternative way is to transform the video stream and map the traffic parameters using the obtained transform coefficients. Spatiotemporal wavelet transform of the video stream contents, using filter banks, is proposed for mapping traffic parameters. Performed tests prove good resilience to illumination changes of road scenes. Mapping errors are smaller than in the case of the commonly used video detectors at sites on multilane roads with low to moderate traffic load.

The determination of the R peak position in the ECG signal helps physicians not only to know the heart rate per minute, but also to monitor the patient’s health related to heart disease. This paper proposes a system to accurately determine the R peak position in the ECG signal. The system consists of a pre-processing block for filtering out noise using a WDFR algorithm and highlighting the amplitude of the R peak and a threshold value is calculated for determining the R peak. In this research, the MIT-BIH ECG dataset with 48 records are used for evaluation of the system. The results of the SEN, +P, DER and ACC parameters related to the system quality are 99.70%, 99.59%, 0.70% and 99.31%, respectively. The obtained performance of the proposed R peak position determination system is very high and can be applied to determine the R peak of the ECG signal measuring devices in practice.

Opis:
Due to long-term use under challenging conditions, the sub-elements of induction motors may suffer certain defects over time. Such defects impair the vibration characteristics of the motors in different ways, depending on the type of defect. Therefore, the change in vibration characteristic provides indicators about the fault type and can be used in preventive maintenance strategies to ensure safe operation of the system. In this work, discrete-time vibration data were transformed into 2-dimensional grey-level images and decomposed into individual components by the Wavelet decomposition method. Features based on entropy and column correlation were extracted from these components and used to classify motor faults by using the Support Vector Machine method implemented by using the Sequential Minimal Optimisation algorithm. When the selected classifier is compared with other popular Machine Learning algorithms, it is observed that motor faults are more successfully classified, and these observations are presented in detail with comparative classification performance results.

Purpose: The flow velocity and pressure of fluid flowing through a pipeline can cause the vibration of pipes, and consequently result in the modification in natural frequency via fluid-structure interaction. The value of the natural frequency of a component when approaches the excitation force to a certain degree, a severe resonance failure may occur. Hence, avoiding the resonance failure of a pipe subjected to complex conditions is an essential issue that requires to be solved urgently in the engineering field. This work treats the transverse vibration for flexible inclined heated pipe, made of polypropylene randomcopolymer (PP-R), conveying fluid assuming pinned connections at the ends. The pipe was placed at different support angles and subjected to variant temperatures. Design/methodology/approach: The inclined pipe is modelled as Euler-Bernoulli beam taking into account its self-weight, temperature variation, inclination angle, aspect ratio, and internal fluid velocity. The integral transforms method, which includes the finite Fourier sine and the Laplace transforms, was used to develop an analytic solution to the modified equation of motion and the analytical expressions for dual natural frequencies of the pipefluid interaction system were computed. Findings: The proposed solution technique via finite Fourier sine and Laplace transforms offers a more convenient alternative to calculate the dynamic characteristic of pipes conveying fluid. The obtained results showed that the dynamical behaviour of pipe–fluid system is strongly affected by fluid flow velocity, degree of inclination, temperature variation, and aspect ratio of the pipe in transverse modes. Research limitations/implications: This work focuses on fundamental (first) mode in the most discussions. Practical implications: It was revealed that the thermal effects in the pipe are a very important factor and more significant in comparison with the internal fluid velocity and the inclination angle has a larger impact on vibration characteristics at a higher aspect ratio. The findings can be useful for the design of engineering components. Originality/value: Determining the combining effect of inclination angle, aspect ratio, and thermal loading on vibration characteristic of the pipes conveying fluid by using an improved analytic solution to the modified equation of motion via mixed of finite Fourier sine and Laplace transforms.

This paper is devoted to some problems that appear in derivations of the discrete time Fourier transform from a formula for its continuous time counterpart for transformation from the time into the frequency domain as well as to those regarding transformation in the inverse direction. In particular, the latter ones remained so far an unresolved problem. It is solved for the first time here. Many detailed explanations accompanying the solution found are presented. Finally, it is also worth noting that our derivations do not exploit any of such sophisticated mathematical tools as the so-called Dirac delta and Dirac comb.

In the paper a mathematical model addressed to non-sharp edges in the images is proposed. This model is based on and integral transform with Haar-Gauss wavelet and matching algorithm of bandwidth, such model is used to detection of the edges in images with high-level noises, both in the x plane and the frequency domains. There is shown that applying the integral Haar-Gaussian transformation the detection of single and double edges is possible. Demonstrated in the paper results confirm that wavelet transform supported by the matching wavelet algorithm of wavelength bandwidth make an important exploration tool of the images with the edges possessing a large depth of sharpness.
W artykule zaproponowano model matematyczny nieostrej krawędzi oraz całkową transformatę z falka Haara-Gaussa wraz z algorytmem dopasowania pasma zarówno w przestrzeni x jak i w dziedzinie częstotliwości. Zilustrowano detekcję pojedynczej i podwójnej krawędzi wykorzystując całkową transformatę Haara-Gaussa. Proponowany model krawędzi wraz z transformatą falkową i algorytmem dopasowania szerokości pasma częstotliwości falki może być ważnym narzędziem w rozpoznawaniu obiektów przez nowoczesne wizyjne systemy transportowe.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) is one of biomedical signals measured during all-night polysomnography to diagnose sleep disorders, including sleep apnoea. Usually two central EEG channels (C3-A2 and C4-A1) are recorded, but typically only one of them are used. The purpose of this work was to compare discriminative features characterizing normal breathing, as well as obstructive and central sleep apneas derived from these central EEG channels. The same methodology of feature extraction and selection was applied separately for the both synchronous signals. The features were extracted by combined discrete wavelet and Hilbert transforms. Afterwards, the statistical indexes were calculated and the features were selected using the analysis of variance and multivariate regression. According to the obtained results, there is a partial difference in information contained in the EEG signals carried by C3-A2 and C4-A1 EEG channels, so data from the both channels should be preferably used together for automatic sleep apnoea detection and differentiation.

This paper proposes a novel method for digital image watermarking, in which watermarks are embedded in the domain of fast para-metric transforms based on known spread spectrum approaches. Fast parametric transforms have the ability to adapt the forms of base vectors, which enables automatic selection of the domain of watermarking in relation to the pair: a marked image – a watermarking attack. The process of adapting the forms of fast parametric transforms is carried out with aid of the classical genetic algorithm with the fitting function based on the known measure of separability of watermarks. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been verified experimentally on the basis of the images of two classes, i.e. natural images and technical diagrams. The results taking into account both the efficiency of watermark embedding and the generated distortions in the marked images are summarized in tables and accompanied by an appropriate commentary.

We derive lower two-weight estimates for the essential norm (measure of noncompactness) for multilinear Hilbert and Riesz transforms, and Riesz potential operators in Banach function lattices. As a corollary we have appropriate results in weighted Lebesgue spaces. From these statements we conclude that there is no \((m+1)\)-tuple of weights \((v,w_1, \dots, w_m)\) for which these operators are compact from \(L^{p_1}_{w_1} \times \dots \times L^{p_m}_{w_m}\) to \(L^q_v\).

Close-form expression for the Strehl ratio calculated in the spatial frequency domain of the optical transfer function (SOTF) is considered for the case of an optical system that has circular symmetry. First, it is proved that the SOTF for the aberration-free diffraction limited optical system is equal to one. Further, a semi-analytic solution for the SOTF for a system described by the second (defocus) and the fourth (spherical) order aberrations is provided. It is shown that the proposed semi-analytical solution is of an order of a magnitude computationally more efficient than the commonly used approach based on the discrete Fourier transformation.

Close-form expression for the Strehl ratio calculated in the spatial frequency domain of the optical transfer function (SOTF) is considered for the case of time-varying dynamic optical system that has circular symmetry. Specifically, closed-form expressions for the temporally averaged SOTF are considered, which can be easily evaluated numerically (what we call a semi-analytic solution). As for the case of a static wavefront, described in Part 1 of this work, it is shown that the proposed methods are computationally more efficient than the commonly used approach based on the discrete Fourier transform.

W obliczu dynamicznych przeobrażeń społecznych oraz wyzwań, przed którymi stoi ludz-kość, a także przeobrażeń w mentalności i podejściu do życia współczesnych dzieci i młodzieży zmianie powinny ulec sposoby oddziaływania szkoły. Wychodząc tym zjawiskom naprzeciw, powinna ona w większym aniżeli dotąd stopniu wykorzystywać nowoczesne technologie eduka-cyjne. Duże możliwości w tym względzie daje np. tablica interaktywna. Odpowiednie jej zastoso-wanie podnosi efektywność pracy nauczyciela, a także zwiększa atrakcyjność zajęć, odpowiadając zapotrzebowaniu uczniów na konkretny rodzaj bodźców i aktywności. Tablica interaktywna staje się powoli codziennością szkoły, jednak istnieje ciągle wiele czynników, które ograniczają jej wykorzystanie.
In the face of dynamic social transforms and challenges, which stands before humanity and also transforms in mentality and attitude towards life of modern children and youth the ways of influence of school should be changed. To meet the expectations of these phenomenon school should use much better than so far modern educational technologies. High potential in these re-spect gives for example interactive board. Its appropriate use enhances effectiveness of teacher’s work but also makes the classes more attractive, what is relevant to students demands for special kind of stimulus and activity. The interactive board slowly becomes reality of school, however there are still many factors that restrict its use.
