Opis:
In this study, free vibration characteristics of a functionally graded Timoshenko beam that undergoes flapwise bending vibration is analysed. The energy expressions are derived by introducing several explanotary figures and tables. Applying Hamilton’s principle to the energy expressions, governing differential equations of motion and boundary conditions are obtained. In the solution part, the equations of motion, including the parameters for rotary inertia, shear deformation, power law index parameter and slenderness ratio are solved using an efficient mathematical technique, called the differential transform method (DTM). Natural frequencies are calculated and effects of several parameters are investigated.

We study an initial value problem for the one-dimensional non-stationary linear Schrodinger equation with a point singular potential. In our approach, the problem is considered as a system of coupled initial-boundary value (IBV) problems on two half-lines, to which we apply the unified approach to IBV problems for linear and integrable nonlinear equations, also known as the Fokas unified transform method. Following the ideas of this method, we obtain the integral representation of the solution of the initial value problem.

Opis:
In this paper, a novel technique is created to enable the extension of the single Laplace transform method (SLTM) to solve nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) is presented. The main parts of the recommended technique are the Adomian polynomials. By developing several theorems, which include the Laplace transformation of nonlinear expressions, the Adomian polynomials are made possible. Several famous nonlinear equations including the Blasius equation, the Poisson Boltzmann equation, and numerous extra problems relating nonlinearities of many types such as exponential and sinusoidal are resolved for description. As it was revealed in the specified equations, and problems, our technique is conceptually and computationally simple. Some nonlinear examples are taken from the literature for checking the validation and convergence of the proposed technique. The suggested method is methodical, precise, then restricted to integration.

A differential transform method (DTM) is used to analyze free transverse vibrations of isotropic rectangular plates resting on a Winkler foundation. Two opposite edges of the plates are assumed to be simply supported. This semi-numerical-analytical technique converts the governing differential equation and boundary conditions into algebraic equations. Characteristic equations are obtained for three combinations of clamped, simply supported and free edge conditions on the other two edges, keeping one of them to be simply supported. Numerical results show the robustness and fast convergence of the method. Correctness of the results is shown by comparing with those obtained using other methods.

Opis:
The objective of this study is to present a new modification of the reduced differential transform method (MRDTM) to find an approximate analytical solution of a certain class of nonlinear fractional partial differential equations in particular, nonlinear time-fractional wave-like equations with variable coefficients. This method is a combination of two different methods: the Shehu transform method and the reduced differential transform method. The advantage of the MRDTM is to find the solution without discretization, linearization or restrictive assumptions. Three different examples are presented to demonstrate the applicability and effectiveness of the MRDTM. The numerical results show that the proposed modification is very effective and simple for solving nonlinear fractional partial differential equations.

An analytical Study of double diffusive MHD flow of a chemically reacting alumina nanofluid past an infinite flat plate is made. Laplace transform method is employed to determine the solution of the governing equation and its analysis showed that increase in both Reynolds number and Prandtl number bring about an increase in the rate of heat transfer coefficient. Skin friction is shown to reduce as the Reynolds number increases. Increase in Reynolds number and Schmidt number, increases the mass transfer coefficient of alumina nanofluid. Generally, comparison is made with other work and an appreciable trend is observed.

This paper is concerned with deriving, using the Volterra integral equation, a production function for a single product firm financing off-the-job training from its revenue from output. The short-run scenario where labour is the only variable factor of production is studied within the ambit of the law of diminishing returns and the condition for profit-maximization. The study utilizes the Cobb-Douglas production function wherein capital is fixed as a theoretical underpinning. The results indicate that the production function of the firm is a transcendental function and that the proportion of output required to finance the training lies within an interval with a definite upper bound.

First, basic definitions and formulas of DTM and Differential Transform-Padé approximation (DTM-Padé), which are used to increase the convergence and accuracy of DTM approximations, are discussed. Then both techniques of DTM and DTM-Padé, which have been successfully applied to partial differential equations, as well as the application of these methods in fluid mechanic and heat transfer are presented. In addition, the extension of DTM for integral differential equations and the fuzzy differential transformation method (FDTM) for fuzzy problems are discussed.

This study examined the electromyographic amplitude–force relationships for 5 (age = 19.20 ± 0.45 yrs) aerobically-trained, 5 (age = 25 ± 4.53 yrs) resistance-trained, and 5 (age = 21.20 ± 2.17 yrs) sedentary individuals. Participants performed an isometric trapezoidal muscle action at 60% maximal voluntary contraction of the leg extensors that included linearly increasing, steady force, and linearly decreasing muscle actions. Electromyography was recorded from the vastus lateralis. The b (slopes) and a (y-intercepts) terms were calculated from the natural log-transformed electromyographic amplitude–force relationships (linearly increasing and decreasing segments) for each participant. An average of the electromyographic amplitude was calculated for the entire steady force segment. The b terms for the resistance-trained (1.384 ± 0.261) were greater than the aerobically-trained (0.886 ± 0.130, P = 0.003) and sedentary (0.955 ± 0.105, P = 0.008) participants during the linearly increasing segment, whereas, there were no differences in b terms among training statuses for the linearly decreasing segment. The b terms for the resistance-trained were greater (P = 0.019) during the linearly increasing segment than decreasing segment (1.186 ± 0.181), however, the b terms for the aerobically-trained were lower (P = 0.017) during the linearly increasing than decreasing segment (1.054 ± 0.176). The a terms from the log-transformed electromyographic amplitude–force relationships and electromyographic amplitude during the steady force segment were not different among training statuses (P = 0.187, P = 0.910). The linearity of the electromyographic amplitude patterns of response (b terms) recording during increasing and decreasing muscle actions may provide insight on motor unit control strategy differences as a result of exercise training status and muscle action, however, the a terms of these patterns and electromyographic amplitude during a steady force contraction did not distinguish among training statuses.

Opis:
The effect of thermal radiation and viscous dissipation on a combined free and forced convective flow in a vertical channel is investigated for a fully developed flow regime. Boussinesq and Roseseland approximations are considered in the modeling of the conduction radiation heat transfer with thermal boundary conditions (isothermal-thermal, isoflux-thermal, and isothermal-flux). The coupled nonlinear governing equations are also solved analytically using the Differential Transform Method (DTM) and regular perturbation method (PM). The results are analyzed graphically for various governing parameters such as the mixed convection parameter, radiation parameter, Brinkman number and perturbation parameter for equal and different wall temperatures. It is found that the viscous dissipation enhances the flow reversal in the case of a downward flow while it counters the flow in the case of an upward flow. A comparison of the Differential Transform Method (DTM) and regular perturbation method (PM) methods shows the versatility of the Differential Transform Method (DTM). The skin friction and the wall temperature gradient are presented for different values of the physical parameters and the salient features are analyzed.

Opis:
The relatively new integral transform called the Sumudu transform method can be used to solve partial differential equations with variable coefficients and as well as intricate problems in engineering and applied mathematics without resorting to a new frequency domain. Unlike the other integral transforms, the Sumudu transform has scale and unit-preserving properties. However, the method is still not widely known or used for solving differential equations especially in the area of applied mathematics and engineering. As a means of demonstrating the potency of the method, the paper applied the Sumudu transform to present analytical solutions of a one-dimensional problem of heat transfer between an inert gas and an ultralow thermal conductivity porous medium. The developed analytical solutions are used to investigate the heat propagation in the porous medium. Depending on the initial temperature, it is established from the study that there are snapshots of the heat wave propagating and a sharp heat front propagation through the medium during its heating or cooling. This sharp front is difficult to detect and quantify by numerical methods. Hence, exact analytical solutions are presented in this study. As it is demonstrated in this study, it is hoped that the Sumudu transform method will be applied to other various complex engineering problems.

Opis:
The boundary element method (BEM) is applied to analysis of statically and dynamically loaded plates with branched and intersecting cracks. The numerical solution is obtained by discretization of external boundaries and crack surfaces using quadratic three-node boundary elements. The problem of coincident crack boundaries is solved by the dual BEM in which for nodes on crack surfaces simultaneously the displacement and the traction boundary integral equations are applied. The dynamic problem is solved by using the Laplace transform method and the solution in the time domain is computed by the Durbin numerical inversion method. The Laplace transform method gives very stable and accurate results and requires small computer memory. Static stress intensity factors (SIF) are computed by the path independent J-integral and dynamic SIF by the crack opening displacement (COD) method. Numerical examples of a branched crack in a rectangular plate and a star-shaped crack in a square plate are presented. Static SIF are compared with available results presented in literature showing good agreement. The maximum dynamic SIF are approximately two times larger than the corresponding static SIF. The influences of angles between branches of the crack and dimensions of the plate for the star-shaped crack on dynamic SIF are analyzed.
Metodę elementów brzegowych (MEB) zastosowano do analizy obciążonych statycznie i dynamicznie tarcz z pęknięciami rozgałęzionymi i przecinającymi się. Rozwiązanie numeryczne otrzymano w wyniku dyskretyzacji brzegów zewnętrznych tarczy i krawędzi pęknięć z zastosowaniem kwadratowych trójwęzłowych elementów brzegowych. Zastosowano sformułowanie duale MEB do analizy pokrywających się krawędzi pęknięcia, w którym stosuje się jednocześnie dla węzłów pęknięcia brzegowe równanie całkowe przemieszczeń i sił powierzchniowych. Zagadnienie dynamiczne analizowano metodą transformacji Laplace’a, a rozwiązanie w dziedzinie czasu wyznaczono metodą numerycznej transformacji odwrotnej Durbina. Metoda transformacji Laplace’a pozwala na wyznaczenie stabilnego i dokładnego rozwiązania i wymaga małej pamięci komputerowej. Statyczne współczynniki intensywności naprężeń (WIN) obliczono za pomocą J-całki niezależnej od konturu całkowania, a dynamiczne WIN na podstawie rozwarcia krawędzi pęknięcia. Przedstawiono przykłady numeryczne rozgałęzionego pęknięcia w tarczy prostokątnej i pęknięcia gwiaździstego w tarczy kwadratowej.
