The organization of railway traffic is a complex decision-making problem. Its complexity results from the multiplicity of problems and from the number of factors, which should be considered. Amongst the research areas, concerning the organization of railway traffic construction of rational train timetable is taking the essential place. In the article was described technical-organizational conditioning of the construction of graphic train timetable. We presented mathematical models of the construction of train timetable, in which we took into account-selected boundary conditions. A way of solving a problem was presented also. Issues of the construction of the graphic train timetable, technical-organizational conditioning of the construction of the graphic train timetable, the organization of the rail traffic and the formalization of the record of the construction of the graphic, boundary conditions and indicators of the quality assessment of the solution, the areas of research concerning the problem of the organization of railway traffic, correct preparing of the graphic timetable, mathematical model are presented in the paper. Introduced in outline mathematical model allows for pathing of trains on the graphic timetable in compliance with priorities of pathing.

The aim of the article is to present a method concerning the problem of the construction of timetable from the point of view of the assignment of platform edges and stabling tracks. Taking into account these two issues in the method is extremely important from the point of view of the fluency of railway traffic, as well as minimizing railway undertaking costs related to access to the infrastructure offered by the manager in terms of occupying the platform edge above the set time. The paper describes the issues of allocating platform edges and stabling tracks in operating offices, with particular consideration of the costs related to this. The formulation of the problem of the train timetable construction was presented, including the allocation of edges and stabling tracks in a mathematical manner. In the model those parts were specified that are relevant to the research problem considered in the article. In addition, the algorithm of the construction method with the use of a block diagram was discussed.

Opis:
Movement of trains on the railway network, due to the need to conduct them in a smooth, safe and stable manner, must be properly structured. This arrangement is defined as the organization of railway traffic. One of the significant problems associated with the organization of traffic is the construction of the timetable. Timetable should be constructed in such a way as to avoid blockages mainly before operating control points. It can not be allowed to occur that the train will wait for the preceding train to release the platform edge. During building the mathematical models supporting the construction of the timetable should therefore take into account this problem. The article presents selected elements of the mathematical model of timetable construction of the passenger trains, taking into account the problem of the perimeter edges allocation. The formal record of the model, the input data necessary for its operation and the sought values were presented. Boundary conditions and indicators for the quality of the solution have been discussed. An example of model works on real data.

The inventions of the electromagnetic telegraph and the railroads significantly accelerated communication in time and space. It greatly influenced the way time was expressed and forced a change of centuries-old patterns and habits. It became necessary to gradually move away from local times (the average solar times of individual places) to the uniform time in the scale of entire countries, and then to the zone time. This process began in the 1830s on the railway and a few years later in the telegraph service, developing in parallel and in conjunction with the railroads. Initially, individual railway authorities adopted the same railway time on their networks (usually the capital time of a given country or the directorate’s headquarters). From 1884 until the first decade of the 20th century, culminating in the early 1990s, they gradually switched to zone time. Its introduction improved the work of railways, increased traffic safety, and made it easier for passengers to find their way around train timetables. Almost in parallel, since the mid-1860s, the process of switching from a twelve-hour count to a 24-hour count of time on the railways took place. In the rich literature devoted to time in its various aspects, few studies focus on the issues of organizing the measurement and expression of time on railways, and there are virtually no studies relating to railways in the present-day Polish lands which at the time operated under three different state authorities. The work aims to collect and systematize the facts that contributed to the process of introducing the 24-hour zone time on Central European railways and to present this process in the context of the world railways.

Opisano i wyjaśniono wygląd wykresu ruchu pociągów oraz zaprezentowano widok karty rozkładu jazdy pociągów.
The paper is concerned with the process of preparing train timetables for Polish Railway Lines. Circumstances for design of train timetables and its coordination process have been presented. The paper also presents and describes train charts.

The lengthy timespan of thirty years shall be a playground of many changes and variations in all spheres of social life and technical world. Public transportation is an integral part of both mentioned fields and co-operates with their changes. The urban region of Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic, is the region with a strong core (city of Brno) and thus it is a rail hub as well. Since 1980, the whole urban region underwent several changes in an industrial structure (from industrialization and preference of heavy industries to de-industrialization and dominance of services), a social organization (transition from industrial to post-industrial patterns of life, from urbanization to suburbanization and subruralization), an arrangement of the settlement system (from densely-populated estates on the edges of the city to suburbanization) and transportation patterns (moving from public transportation to individual road transportation). The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of changes in train public transportation in Brno urban region between 1980 and 2010. As a basis of the analysis, timetables of 1980, 1990, 2000 and 2010 were taken. There have been analysed all stations with commuting time of passenger trains during the day less or equal 60 minutes. Results of timetable analysis are put into the context of other socio-economic terms. The main outcomes show little changes in the length of transport time, in the distribution of trains during the day, in differences between weekday (in this paper Wednesday) and weekend, in the usage of express trains and in train lines. The paper also compares conditions before and after establishing the Integrated Transport System in South Moravia Region in 2004.
