    The safety performance of road drivers requires an improvement of the mechanism of selecting candidates for professional drivers. Unfortunately, it has been common practice until now to design diagnostic methods to reflect the theoretical constructs of traits and abilities considered useful in road traffic. We decided to adopt the opposite, complementary approach and to analyze what the methods used in Polish transport psychology really measure and what theoretical constructs that corresponds to. The results will be treated as a first step towards determining the prognostic validity of these psychometric tools. We tested 300 professional male drivers, aged form 21 to 65 years, belonging to six groups of equal size: victims of collisions, victims of accidents, perpetrators of collisions, perpetrators of accidents, drivers stopped by the police for drunk driving and those who had never been involved in any of the above situations. The analysis concerned 27 indicators taken from nine diagnostic tools commonly used by transport psychologists in Poland. Exploratory factor analysis was performed to determine the latent factor structure of these methods. The Kaiser criterion allowed us to identify the eight-factor solution as the optimal one. The extracted factors are: attention, accuracy in visual perception, mental alertness, sense of community, efficiency of reactiveness and decision making, cognitive abilities (logical induction and grasping analogy), agency, and sensitivity to social approval.

    The safety of travel on public roads is one of the most important issues to be developed in Hungary and in the European Union. The authors conducted a survey on the current state of the topic in Hungary. They examine the actions undertaken in traffic safety and traffic control in the past years in the country. Vehicle drivers consider regulations on speed limits and overspeeding to be less respectable and acceptable. The absolute transgression of the speed limit, also known as overspeeding, significantly increases the risk of accidents, and also adds to the severity of accidents, considering the majority of the traumas and the occurrence of fatalities in these accidents. Overspeeding is the greatest problem point in road traffic safety issues such as speeding, drunk driving and the use of passive road traffic safety gear. Considering the fatal road accidents in Hungary, it has become evident that the number of absolute overspeeding cases is significantly increasing. Overspeeding plays a significant role in the severity of the accident, especially in cases of unprotected travellers, pedestrians and cyclists. Traffic control is part of influencing the awareness and education of safe travelling. Police traffic control and accident prevention programmes aim to decrease the number of victims of road traffic accidents.

    The Strait of Istanbul, 17 nautical miles long, is one of the main routes of international maritime trade. Connecting the Black Sea countries with other countries of the world, the Strait is the second busiest waterway in the world in terms of international ship traffic. In addition to busy sea traffic, limited geographical conditions also make it difficult to navigational safety. The Strait of Istanbul is the only chokepoint that stands out with the risk of maritime accidents on the primary routes of world maritime trade. This situation poses a risk for both the transiting ships and the city of Istanbul, which has a dense population around it. Some of the accidents that took place in the recent history have caused worldwide concern due to the environmental pollution they cause. Considering the advantages provided by the developing shipbuilding technology and today load capacity of the ships, a disaster that will occur in a possible accident today will cause much greater destruction than in the past. In this direction, it has become a necessity to examine the accident profile in the strait in order to develop effective accident prevention measures and to strengthen the level of navigational safety in the region. In this study, maritime accidents that occurred in the Strait of Istanbul over a 16-year period were discussed in terms of their types and the response time of tugboats to a possible accident was examined.

    The aim of the study was to present Ways to Prevent road accidents in Romania. Improving security requires the Involvement of many companies, but only with Their help and cooperation can create a fully functional and effective system for Preventing accidents. The article shows the effectiveness of the Romania safety system in road transport. The study shows that the introduction of modern solutions slowly results in achieving improvement in the management of road, and brings measurable effects in the form of fewer fatalities.
    Celem pracy było przedstawienie sposobów zapobiegania wypadkom drogowym w Rumunii. Poprawa bezpieczeństwa wymaga zaangażowania wielu firm, ale tylko z ich pomocy i współpracy można stworzyć w pełni funkcjonalny i skuteczny system zapobiegania wypadkom. W artykule przedstawiono skuteczność systemu bezpieczeństwa Rumunii w transporcie drogowym. W opracowaniu ukazano, że wprowadzenie nowoczesnych rozwiązań powoli skutkuje osiągnięciem poprawy w zarządzaniu transportem drogowym, a także przynosi wymierne skutki w postaci mniejszej liczby ofiar śmiertelnych.

    The article presents basic definitions related to road accidents and types of tests carried out in the field of road accidents. The effects of road accidents on participants, drivers as well as social and direct costs of road accidents were discussed. The correct conduct of people involved in a road accident (incident) was presented. In the research part, the most common causes of accidents in Poland were analysed. Particular attention was paid to the participation in accidents of participants under the influence of alcohol. The article ends with a discussion on the presented research results and the resulting conclusions as well as a proposal for preventive actions to reduce the number of road accidents.

    The article presents results and the way of providing research project on indepth crash study on scene of accidents of 385 Powered Two-Wheelers (motorcyclists, motorists) and 116 bicycles in the European Union in 2014-2017. The main concern of an in-depth crash study at the site of a traffic accident is to collect data on vehicles, roads, and drivers, including interviews with participants. Data descriptive statistics have been used to underline the dominant factors that appear most frequently in accident scenarios with bicycles and PTW, with a special focus on causation by Driving Reliability and Error Analysis Method and injuries coded by the Abbreviated Injury Scale, conducted for these road users across Europe for the first time. Medical data, police records, and jurisdiction files about crashes of PTW and cyclist were collected and analyzed in EU to define the most common accident scenarios and other threats to this group of unprotected road users. The articles present recommendations for making safer driving of motorcyclists and bicyclists.
