Opis:: After the World War II, acting under the terms of the Potsdam Agreement, the anti-Nazi coalition commenced destroying chemical and conventional munitions by dumping it in the seas (including in the Baltic Sea). As a result of these activities, tens of thousands of tons of ammunition were brought to the Baltic. The international project CHEMSEA has shown that dumped chemical munitions pose a threat to the environmental safety of the Baltic Sea, and that the need to collect and destroy munitions should be taken into account. The article describes the assumptions of a pilot system to identify chemical munitions in the Baltic Sea (including selected areas of the Polish Maritime Areas), assess its technical condition and the potential for its recovery. In addition, existing technical solutions (allowing for the use of the best available techniques – BAT) provide the opportunity to collect and neutralize sunken chemical munitions.

Opis:: Bojowe Środki Trujące BŚT mogą zagrażać grupom ludności w wyniku aktów terrorystycznych, w wyniku awarii przemysłowych, w których trakcie do środowiska mogą uwolnić się związki chemiczne o podobnym działaniu do BŚT. Klasyfikacja BŚT opiera się na trzech podstawowych kryteriach, jakimi są ich właściwości fizyczne, właściwości chemiczne oraz stopień toksyczności danego środka. Wszystkie te cechy stanowią jednakowo "portret" BŚT, decydują o jego przydatności bojowej oraz przeznaczeniu wojskowym. Analiza stopnia przygotowania służb ratowniczych takich, jak Straż Pożarna, Pogotowie Ratunkowe oraz pracownicy SOR-ów do udzielania pomocy poszkodowanym, porażonym bojowymi środkami trującymi, jest istotna do skutecznego zapobiegania skażeniom ludności i udzielania pierwszej podstawowej pomocy, w której skład wchodzą procedury przedlekarskie polegające na utrzymaniu podstawowych procesów życiowych pacjenta i jego szybkim transporcie do jednostki leczniczej.
Toxic warfare agents (TWAs) can threaten groups of population as a result of terrorist acts as well as industrial failures during which chemical compounds with similar effects to TWAs may be released into the environment. TWA classification is based on three basic criteria: physical and chemical properties and the toxicity degree of a particular agent. All of these properties equally make a picture of TWA and thus determine its combat usability and military purpose. An analysis of the degree of preparation of rescue services such as the Fire Brigade, the Emergency Ambulance Service and employees of Hospital Emergency Departments to provide ad to the injured and paralyzed by toxic warfare agents is significant to effectively prevent population contamination and provide first basic aid, which includes pre-medical procedures consisting in maintenance of a patient’s fundamental life processes and his/her rapid transport to a treatment facility.

Opis:: Risk of contamination is a problem well known for many years. Its apogee coincided with the Cold War, in which weapons of mass destruction, which is the main source of potential contamination, remained constantly in the spotlight. Today, despite the threat of use of chemical weapons, nuclear or biological weapons is negligible, the problem of contamination still exists. This is particularly evident in the case of chemical agents, which in some cases can lead to major emergencies. In addition, due to the quite different characteristics of individual agents , the type of emerging risks, generated by the contamination may be very different. This means that for a correct assessment of possible contamination risks we have to get to know the type and nature of all agents, being a potential factor in the formation of contamination. This article is an attempt to present the essence and nature of the risks generated by chemical agents, both those warfare, as well as other commonly used in the national economy. For a better problem understanding, the most possible threats have been discussed, pointing to the real danger that pose. Additionally presented the essence of the contamination, identification of respective risks and their basic typologies.
