    Artykuł przedstawia możliwości wykorzystania metryk parafialnych oraz ksiąg miejskich w badaniach genealogicznych, a także ujawnia wiążące się z tym problemy. Materiał obejmuje okres od XVII do XVIII wieku. Za przykład posłużyły materiały źródłowe dotyczące Pleszewa, miasta położonego na terenie prowincji wielkopolskiej. Oceniona została rzetelność prowadzenia wszystkich typów ksiąg metrykalnych parafii Pleszew. Scharakteryzowany został zasób danych zawartych w metrykaliach oraz problemy genealogiczne, takie, jak: ustalenie podstawowych dat z życia człowieka, wąski zasób imion nadawanych przy chrzcie, kryterium identyczności nazwiska czy tłumaczenie imion. W drugiej części zostały zaprezentowane możliwości wykorzystania w genealogii wytworów kancelarii miejskiej na konkretnych przykładach, które zawierają informacje niedostępne w księgach metrykalnych.
    The article presents the possibilities of using parish registers and town records in genealogical research, and also reveals the related problems. The material covers the period from the 17th to the 18th century. As an example, source materials concerning Pleszew, a town located in the province of Wielkopolska, were used. The reliability of keeping all types of parish books of the Pleszew parish was assessed. The resource of data contained in the records and genealogical problems were characterized, including: determining the basic dates of a person's life, a narrow resource of names given at baptism, the criterion of surname identity or the translation of names. The second part presents the possibilities of using the records of the municipal office in the genealogy based on specific examples that contain information not available in register books.

    Opis:
    Liber actorum civilium of the city of Płock covering the years 1489-1517 is a valuable source of information about the social and professional structure of Płock, as well as its customs and culture at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. Fortunately it survived the destruction of archival and library collections in Warsaw during World War II, and was published in 1995 by Danuta Poppe. On the pages of this liber of the city of Płock for the years 489-1517 we find representatives of 20 professions who lived and worked in Płock. As was already mentioned it is not the complete list, although it still shows the areas of the activity of the townspeople from Płock. The testaments say a lot about their financial status where sacrum, charity, care and family protection completed each other. The records in which the Płock craftsman appear on the pages of the liber actorum civilum concerned every day matters as purchase, sale, exchange, lease or donations. The fact that they enjoyed the popularity of the residents of the city shows that they were asked for arbitration of arguable matters. At the turn of 15th and 16th century the craftsmen were involved in the guilds, of which the liber mentions four: butchers, weavers, shoemakers, saddlers. The traits were concerned with the development of the craft among other trade contracts. Moreover they defended the interests of their community, they provided aid to the needy, gave opportunities for social contacts and also cared for the morality of the guild members.

    W artykule przedstawiono, na wybranych przykładach, okoliczności powstania i funkcjonowania niektórych instytucji książki w Łodzi – księgarń, drukarń i wypożyczalni książek, w II połowie XIX wieku i na początku XX wieku. Ukazano rolę i miejsce tych placówek w wielokulturowej społeczności przemysłowego ośrodka. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono właścicielom i organizatorom wymienionych instytucji. Przedstawiono ich losy i działalność na rzecz łódzkiego świata książki.
    In the article, basing on selected examples, the author presented circumstances of founding and functioning of some book institutions in Lodz – bookshops, printing houses and libraries – in the 2nd part of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The author described these institutions' role and position within the multicultural society of an industrial city. Special emphasis was put on the presenting of the owners and promoters of the institutions mentioned above. The author presented their biographies and contribution for the book world of Lodz.

    The essay is excerpted from a chapter of a book that is currently being written by the author. The working title of the book is Spacery po kościołach rzymskich [Walks through historical churches and temples of Rome] (Wydawnictwo Zeszytów Literackich). The present essay aims at discussing the specific character of the Christian church architecture of the city of Rome that constitutes nodes of a network that has been developing throughout one and a half millennia. Each of the chapters of the book is centered around a particular walk of the town that includes on its way the described churches. The walks cover virtually the whole of the old town and some of the adjacent palaces. The adopted method of presentation is purely personal and has a character of a “Roman diary” — to some extent, the author has been inspired by Promenades das Rome by Stendhal. The diary is, however, a particular guide book on the town for those who want to experience something else that the offer presented by standard guidebooks. Notwithstanding it subjective angle, the book does not interfere in passing the essential historical and artistic knowledge to the reader. Rome appears here to be a singular place, as a personification of one of the most important stages of Western civilization.

    Artykuł jest poświęcony społeczno-kulturowym uwarunkowaniom wyborów literackich polskich nastolatków. Spontaniczne wybory książkowe są ukazane w kontekście sposobów czytania, które budują oczekiwania wobec satysfakcjonującej lektury, formy aktywności czytelniczej i charakter uczestnictwa w społecznym obiegu książki. Uwaga została skupiona na specyfice literackiego gustu i sposobów czytania zależnych od socjalizacji do czytania w miejscowości, z której pochodzą nastoletni czytelnicy. Opisano trzy sposoby czytania: wiejski, małomiasteczkowy oraz wielkomiejski. Artykuł powstał na podstawie analiz wyników trzech edycji ogólnopolskich badań (z 2003, 2010, 2013 r.), śledzących postawy czytelnicze piętnastoletnich uczniów kończących obowiązkowy etap edukacji.
    The article is devoted to the socio-cultural determinants of the literary choices of Polish teenagers. Spontaneous book choices are shown in the context of reading methods, which build expectations for satisfying reading, forms of reading activity and the nature of participation in the social circulation of the book. Attention was focused on the specificity of literary tastes and ways of reading, dependent on socialization for reading in the town from which teenage readers come. Three ways of reading have been described: rural way, small-town way and big-city way. The article was based on the analysis of the results of three editions of nationwide surveys (from 2003, 2010, 2013) following the reading attitudes of fifteen-year-old students completing the compulsory education stage.
