Opis:
Both the Synod of Bishops of 1990 which was dedicated to the formation of priests and the Exhortation of John Paul II, “Pastores Dabo Vobis” have had an essential influence on the reorganization of the priestly formation in the Church. During the preparations for the Synod, John Paul II throughout one year, during his Angelus meditations undertook the most important to-pics concerning the priesthood and the priestly formation. The Pope discus-sed the challenges and tasks of the priests of to-day and of the candidates to the priesthood. He pointed to the need of the Church’s prayer for vocations, the role of family and seminary, as preparing communities for the priesthood. He presented some important dimensions of the priesthood such as its Trinitarian nature, its close relationship with Christ and the cooperation of priests with the power of the Holy Spirit. He showed a special relationship of priests with the Mary, Mother of God who is an educator of the priestly vocations and Mother of priests. Then he emphasized that the priests should be men of faith, hope and love, living in fraternal communion and in the unity with God, prayerful, immersed in God’s wisdom. He emphasized that the priests must live radicalism of the Gospel, especially the evangelical counsels: poverty, obedience, chastity of priestly celibacy. Finally the Pope called attention to the activity of priests, which should manifest themselves as collaborators of God, as ministers of reconciliation and of the Eucharist, as men capable for sacrifice, sensible for the suffering and disposed for missionary work.

Opis:
The last Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis was published in1970 and updated in 1985. In the meantime, and particularly under the effectof the rapid changes in the modern world, the historical, socio-cultural andecclesial contexts have changed, in which the priest is called to make manifest the mission of Christ and the Church. This has also led to significantchanges in related matters: the image or the view of the priest, the spiritualneeds of the People of God, the challenges of the new evangelisation, andthe languages of communication, to name just a few. In this situation, it seemed that priestly formation needed to be relaunched, renewed and returned to the centre. On 8 December 2016, therefore, the Congregation for the Clergy published the new Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis,a tool for the formation of priests. It has taken up the contents, methods andapproaches presented so far in the field of formation, updating them andintroducing new elements. The document restates the guidelines offeredin the Apostolic Exhortation Pastores Dabo Vobis regarding an integratedformation of seminarians. In this formation, the formators and professors arecalled to demonstrate the close relationship between theology, the spirituallife and the pastoral ministry. This is so in order that the candidate for thepriesthood might become a good shepherd of the People of God and havea compassionate and merciful heart like Christ.

Opis:
The present day of the Church brings with itself questions that also concern the role and identity of the priest. In this field questions have always appeared: Who is the priest? What are his functions? How does his service differ from the mission of lay people and other servants of the Church? Entering the field of the priest’s identity allows one to understand and determine important directions and tasks that an evangelist has to face. There are vast spaces, in which the priest’s identity may be realized, so that a homily can have its expression and brilliance, and so that it could bring spiritual good to the faithful. Among the factors forming the preacher’s identity one may find: farther preparation, beauty of speech and communication with the recipient, beauty of the word, positive criticism and first of all belief in the power of the preached word.
