    Every year, new vessels equipped with dynamic positioning (DP) systems are built in shipyards around the world. Due to the increasing number of offshore vessels, a client hiring a vessel should analyse the vessel's positioning capability charts to determine which water areas the vessel is designed for. These charts are represented as polar diagrams. In the centre of the chart is a shape symbolising the ship's body, and the values on the chart represent the maximum wind speed that can affect the ship at a given angle, at which the vessel will maintain its position. Vessel capability charts can also be used by the crew during thrusters failures to determine at what angle to the wind direction the vessel should stand to minimise the impact of wind forces. Analyses that determine a vessel's ability to keep position can be performed by classification societies or other companies with approval from classification societies. The article presents the concept of a pathfinding algorithm to determines the route of the ship’s passage with minimal energy consumption. The algorithm uses the information about environmental forces affecting the ship and information about thrust allocation obtained from Capability Plots.

    This study addresses the problem of training the officers, which are assigned to an electrical-driven vessels equipped with azimuth thrusters. A pair of omnidirectional thrusters in combination with power plant system containing several diesel generators imply a potential for a variety of different emergency scenarios, which also includes partial or full loss of control or blackout. These fault scenarios were classified in the article with predefined risk levels depending on the area, time limitation, mode of operation and fault itself. Mutual responsibilities and action algorithms for bridge and engine teams in a step-by-step manner have been developed for each scenario. Personnel behavioral differences in both expected and unexpected emergencies have also been studied.

    Vessels conducting dynamic positioning (DP) operations are usually equipped with thruster configurations that enable the generation of force and torque. Some thrusters in these configurations are deliberately redundant to minimize consequences of thruster failures, enable overactuated control and increase the safety in operation. On such vessels, a thrust allocation system must be used to distribute the control actions determined by the DP controller among the thrusters. The optimal allocation of the thrusters’ settings in DP systems is a problem that can be solved by convex optimization methods depending on the criteria and constraints used. This paper presents a quadratic programming (QP) method, adopted in a DP control model, which is being developed in Maritime University of Szczecin for ship simulation purposes.

    W artykule przedstawiono system wieloagentowy wspomagający projektowanie wybranych układów sterowania sterami strumieniowymi. Zaimplementowany system składa się z czterech niezależnych programów komputerowych (agentów), które poprzez realizację unikalnych algorytmów oraz wzajemną komunikację dobierają odpowiednią strukturę i elementy układu sterowania oraz po przeprowadzeniu badań symulacyjnych dokonują oceny jakości otrzymanego rozwiązania projektowego.
    In this paper the distributed multi-agent system for aided design of chosen control systems is presented. Implemented system consists of four independent software agents: Interface Agent (gathers and initially validates the data from user designer), Master Agent (supervises the design process by delegating tasks to particular agents and enables deployment of machine learning algorithms), Matlab Agent (loads the necessary items from the database, creates a control system model and conducts dynamic calculations for the designed structure), Expert Agent (evaluates the simulation results regarding the suitability of generated solution and provides a report for system user). The outcome of the system activity is a ready-made solution concerning an appropriate structure and elements of the thruster control system.

    Tunnel thrusters during overhaul pass through several quality tests. After disassembly any clearance, shrink or subassembly are noticed. Measurements taken at verification stage determined which parts should be replaced. Definitely, the most important of tunnel thruster operation is bearings condition. Despite many years of experience, it is hard to find micro damages in the bearings without special devices. After assembly of tunnel thruster, the final stage is spin test. The spin test rig is equipped with bearings condition monitoring system including vibration, temperature and pressure inside the tunnel thruster live monitoring. During 4 hours of spin test, it is possible to check vibrations on the thruster and if any damage occurs it can be easily found, on which part of bearing appeared. Spin test rig gives possibility to check misalignments, gear condition, temperatures during 4 hours of operation and check oil quality (oil particle content acc. to ISO 4407 and water content). Spin test guarantees proper operation of tunnel thrusters after overhaul. If any damage appears during the spin test it can be easily eliminated. Without the spin test after overhaul, damage will be found after assembly on the vessel – on the sea trials. When damage is found too late, there is an additional cost for company to dock the vessel again and disassembly tunnel thruster for inspection. From economical point of view, the spin test rig gives possibility to avoid extra costs. Every passed spin test gives certificate of proper vibration level and proper assembly of thruster’s elements.

    Omówiono automatyczne generowanie modeli symulacyjnych na potrzeby systemu ekspertowego wspomagającego projektowanie układów automatyki statków. Na podstawie przyjętych założeń projektowych system ekspertowy zleca badania wybranych struktur podsystemów elektroenergetycznych statków. Aplikacja symulacyjna pobiera z biblioteki modele matematyczne elementów składowych struktur, a następnie zestawia modele symulacyjne, wykonuje badania zestawionych struktur i przekazuje wyniki symulacji do systemu ekspertowego. Wyniki badań symulacyjnych służą ocenie jako źródło wiedzy systemu ekspertowego. Istotną rzeczą jest spełnienie przez badaną strukturę wymagań towarzystw klasyfikacyjnych. W wyniku integracji systemu z bazą wiedzy oraz aplikacji symulacyjnej powstaje hybrydowy system ekspertowy. W referacie przestawiono wybrane badania symulacyjne dla sterów strumieniowych statków.
    The paper describes application automatic generation of simulation models cooperating with the expert system. System supports the selection of component elements for the bow thrusters. The parts of such a system are: a set of structures, a set of models, database and knowledge base. These results are used as a source of knowledge of the expert system. Using the simulation results an expert system determines if the rules of classification society are met. This expert system employs data base and simulation investigation result as a source of knowledge.

    The bow thrusters are devices, which make vessels manoeuvring much easier especially in the harbours or the straits with high intensity of the traffic vessels. The long-term exploitation of these devices causes damages, mainly for its propeller blades. The cavitation is the main cause of its damages. Technical condition of all thrusters components mainly taking into account blades are subjected to periodic inspection according to classification societies. In this article have been included examples of bad condition of the thruster blades caused by cavitation process or mechanical damages. These damages can be dangerous enough to turn off the device and make the vessel be out of exploitation. The thruster blades repairing are a very complicated and hazardous venture. The blades are large sized, unbalanced, heavy components and difficult to be mounted in lathes. The main aim of this work is to identify opportunities of thruster blades repair process. The article presents technological problems of blade regeneration with the lathe as a complicated solid, which causes very big problems with the setting axis the component. The thesis presents methods of attach propeller blades using the special handle and tusk lathes. Among others, research allowed defining operation rotating velocity, and other parameters related to mechanical regeneration. The researches have shown that presented method in practice allows for secure mechanical regeneration of blades thrusters.

    W referacie przedstawiono wykorzystanie badań symulacyjnych jako źródła wiedzy dla systemu ekspertowego. Omawiany system służy wspomaganiu doboru elementów steru strumieniowego. Elementami tego systemu są: biblioteka struktur, biblioteka modeli, baza elementów oraz baza wiedzy. Jako przykład przedstawiono badania symulacyjne struktury steru strumieniowego zawierającej silnik indukcyjny, wał śrubowy, śrubę o skoku nastawnym oraz obciążenie sieci. W wyniku badań uzyskano przebiegi napięcia sieci zasilającej, prądu obciążenia, momentu obciążenia oraz prędkości obrotowej silnika. Wyniki te służą jako źródło wiedzy sytemu ekspertowego.
    The paper describes the use of the simulation investigations as a source of knowledge for the expert system. System supports the selection of component elements for the bow thrusters. The parts of such a system are: a set of structures, a set of models, database and knowledge base. As an example the simulation investigation of bow thrusters which structure contains induction motor, propeller shaft, controllable pitch propeller and energy network load is presented. As a result of the research plots of: mains voltage, load current, load torque and rotational speed of the engine are obtained. These results as a source of knowledge of the expert system are used.

Projekt realizowany w ramach prac statutowych Instytutu Lotnictwa ma na celu budowę i przetestowanie jednostki napędowej umożliwiającej transfer satelitów telekomunikacyjnych z niskiej na geostacjonarną orbitę ziemską. Przedstawiono układ konstrukcyjny silnika wraz z opisem jego kluczowych elementów. W pracy zawarto również uproszczoną metodologię rozwoju projektu wraz z przykładowymi wynikami obliczeń. Projekt pozwolił na budowę i wstępne przetestowanie zaproponowanego silnika rakietowego, pozytywnie weryfikując postawione założenia. Obecnie trwają prace nad kolejną wersją tego typu jednostki napędowej, przystosowanej do realizacji badań laboratoryjnych.

    In the article below, we presented the possibility of „spin test“ method usage for medium rotational speed devices such as thrusters', which are used to enhance the maneuverability of maritime vessels. The reason for the analysis is the problem of eliminating the unwanted vibrations of thruster's propeller with commonly used methods. It is an innovative solution for accurate verification of the technical condition of screw propellers, which are the most common devices used as the propelling element of thrusters. In the introduction the possibility of thruster's diagnosis using „spin test“ has been described. Commonly used thrusters' and their working conditions were presented. In order to properly assess the technical condition of rotational speed devices, such as thrusters' propellers after their production or renovation it is vital to provide an additional diagnosis in the environment similar to working conditions. Secondly, the problem of spinning parts' vibration was described. „Spin test“ method presented here gives the ability of detailed analysis of spinning parts' vibration. The idea of a compact and easy to assemble station enabling to conduct such research has been shown. The station not only allows to measure the eigenfrequency of vanes' in normal mode and compare it with the previously calculated ones, but also enables material's endurance testing at speeds higher than nominal speed. Finally, we presented the range of using this method in different fields along with the benefits of ‘Spin Tests’.

    Unconventional thrusters have enhanced possibilities of direction oriented thrust generating, owing to the fact they are finding application as propulsion of chosen ships. On account on demand of navigational safety assuring (tugs, double-endedferńes, special ships, chosen cruise liners) or dynamic positioning (cable ships, suppliers, drilling vessels) the ship propulsion solution based on unconventional thrusters. That part of marine propulsion market was dominated by them. Unconventional thrusters allow possibilities of other applications like auxiliary propulsion (or emergency), bow or aft thrusters, antiheeling equipment. It is quested possibilities for other applications. By the way developing with aggressive promotion of that propulsion system advantages and presentation of theirs applications on still increasing quantity of ships, it is created an atmosphere that it is necessary tofollow this way that no return to association - modern and safe ship is a ship equipped as a minimum with auxiliary unconventional propulsion system. In a practice, ships equipped with this propulsion system, give a crew a enhanced comfort of work ditring manoeuvring and even from that reason they are pleasant seen by ship crew. It must be seen these thrusters have excellent future. The efficiency drop is about 6-8% in comparison with conventional propulsion system and increasing fuel consumption, but this is the only one disadvantage. Forecasted development and rise of diesel-electric propulsion systems quantity would cause increased interest of unconventional thrusters. Ultimately they may revolutionize ship propulsion systems.
    Pędniki aktywne posiadają zwiększone możliwości wytwarzania ukierunkowanej siły naporu, dzięki temu znajdują zastosowanie do napędu wybranych jednostek morskich. Ze względu na wymagania zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa żeglugi (holowniki portowo-redowe, promy pasażerskie używane do przepraw, jednostki specjalistyczne, niektóre duże statki pasażerskie tzw. cruise liners) lub pozycjonowania jednostek (kablowce, suppliery, jednostki wiertnicze) zalecane jest rozwiązanie napędu głównego statku w oparciu o pędniki aktywne. Ta część rynku została przez nie zdominowana. Dają one również możliwości innych zastosowań np. jako napęd awaryjny (pomocniczy), stery strumieniowe, urządzenia przeciwprzechyłowe. Poszukuje się ich możliwości dalszych zastosowań. Przy okazji występując z agresywną reklamą zalet tej formy napędu oraz prezentacją ich zastosowań na coraz większej liczbie statków, wytwarza się atmosferę, że należy podążać tą drogą, że nie ma odwrotu od skojarzenia: nowoczesny i bezpieczny statek to statek wyposażony chociaż w pomocniczy napęd z użyciem pędników aktywnych. W praktyce, jednostki wyposażone w tą formę napędu dają zwiększony komfort pracy podczas manewrowania i z tego chociażby powodu są mile widziane przez załogi statków. Należy zauważyć, że są to pędniki mające przyszłość. Niedostatek sprawności w porównaniu z tradycyjnym napędem jest rzędu 6-8%, co powoduje odpowiednio zwiększone zużycie paliwa, ale jest to jedyna podstawowa wada. Przewidywany rozwój i wzrost liczebności napędów diesel-elektrycznych (z tzw. przekładnią elektryczną) spowoduje zwiększone zainteresowanie pędnikami aktywnymi. Docelowo mogą one zrewolucjonizować napędy statków.

    W artykule przedstawiono wyniki eksperymentalnych badań modelu pędnika z dyszą wylotową umieszczoną w dnie statku. Strumień wypływający z wylotu pędnika odchylony był 30° w dół od płaszczyzny dna statku i skierowany był prostopadle w stronę burty. Pomierzono straty naporu pędnika wynikające z oddziaływania kadłuba o trzech różnych szerokościach i o pięciu promieniach obła.
    The paper presents the experimental test performance of the jet thruster with outlet nozzle mounted in the ship bottom. The inclination between jet and bottom plate was 30 degrees and the jet was lateral to ship board. The decrease of thrust of the propeller due to the hull effect has been measured for three different hull breadths and for five bilge radiues.

    Przedstawiono koncepcje stworzenia modelu diagnostycznego steru strumieniowego, którego budowa oparta jest na miarach sygnałów różnego typu generowanych przez urządzenie. Rozpatrzono możliwości pozyskania informacji na temat stanu poszczególnych elementów agregatu, analizując składowe czasowo-częstotliwościowe sygnału.
    The paper presents the concept of creation of a diagnostic model of thruster based on signal estimates, generated during the operation of the aggregate. Possible use of time-frequency details for individual elements of machine are taken under consideration.
