    Following recent severe natural events, attention has been focused on industrial installations located in areas prone to natural hazards. This work concerns the study of volcanic Na-Tech events (i.e. technological risks triggered by natural causes) and aims at defining a procedure for the representation of the vulnerability of industrial facilities in areas with the potential volcanic ash fallout by means a Geographical Information System (GIS). Here, we focused on the construction of a semi-automatic procedure for the vulnerability mapping for cases where input data is very limited; it is based on the use of a specific tool named ModelBuilder of the ArcGIS software.

    Opis:
    DEMATEL technique is a graphical representation method to deal with complex systems. The final analyzed cause and effect categorization would be fundamentally dependent on the threshold value setting. This research is intended to present some mathematical models for calculating the threshold value in the DEMATEL method. The min(max) operator has been intentionally used for considering three equations to identify the threshold value. Additionally, the proposed mathematical equations are gradually developed to gain more useful data to yield a threshold value as well. Particularly, the expert’s initial scoring for building the primary matrix would also be applied in one equation. Results show eliciting an expert’s opinions regarding the value of a threshold value determination leads to setting relatively high thresholds. But, there would be an equation which takes advantage of more data derived from the total influence matrix T. Moreover, a span of different threshold values is gained by making use of the Hamacher t-conorms operator which especially would cause better complexity management of the final total matrix T based on expert’s opinions. As a contribution to this research, threshold value determination is developed mathematically by making use of the direct data gained by the total matrix T. Besides combining data derived from total matrix T, the initial influence direct matrix given by experts, a simpler aggregating procedure and no need for statistical information compared to special Lenth’s method hints at this research’s novelty as well.

    An algorithm for determination of threshold value in extruded products by the method of maximum increments: modi cation of Otsu method. There are presented the results of comparative analysis of threshold value determination in the extruded products with the use of developed new algorithm. The original and modi ed Otsu algorithms were compared. In calculations of porosity indices of the extrudate cross section, the threshold values determined automatically with the use of investigated algorithms were compared with indications of an experts’ panel. The results of threshold value calculated with the use of the proposed algorithm were closer to values indicated by the expert panel, than that obtained with the use of comparative algorithms. However, the proposed method tends to overstate the threshold value; in some cases it can cause losing the pores of small lacunarity on the bit map calculated by this method.
    Algorytm wyznaczania wartości progowej w produktach ekstrudowanych metodą największych przyrostów. Modyfikacja metody Otsu. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki analizy porównawczej wyznaczania wartości progowej w produktach ekstrudowanych za pomocą opracowanego nowego algorytmu. Jako wartości porównywane wykorzystano oryginalny i zmodyfikowany algorytm Otsu. Automatycznie wyznaczone wartości progowe przy obliczaniu wskaźników porowatości przekroju ekstrudatu, obliczone przy wykorzystaniu badanych algorytmów zostały porównane ze wskazaniami panelu eksperckiego. Wyniki obliczenia wartości progowej uzyskane za pomocą proponowanego algorytmu znajdowały się bliżej wartości wskazywanych przez panel ekspercki niż wyniki uzyskane przy wykorzystaniu algorytmów porównawczych. Proponowana metoda wykazuje jednak tendencję do zawyżania wartości progowej, co w niektórych przypadkach może powodować gubienie porów o niewielkiej jamistości w obliczonej przy jej pomocy mapie bitowej.

    Celem proponowanego artykułu jest analiza powiązań między głównymi rynkami finansowymi, reprezentującymi procesy finansowe i gospodarcze zachodzące we współczesnym świecie. Badanie skupiało się na zagadnieniu przenoszenia ryzyka ekstremalnego na rynkach finansowych. Zrozumienie mechanizmu transferu ryzyka ma kluczowe znaczenie dla efektywnego zarządzania ryzykiem, instytucji finansowych oraz podmiotów nadzorujących rynki finansowe. W szczególności ryzyko ekstremalne ma największe znaczenie, ponieważ to ekstremalne ruchy cen powodują największe zagrożenie oraz szanse dla uczestników rynku. Przedstawiony artykuł stanowi rozszerzenie dotychczasowych badań, polegające na wykorzystaniu najnowszej metodologii do badania przyczynowości w ryzyku w sensie Grangera zaprezentowanej w pracy Candelon i inni (2013). Innowacyjność tego podejścia polega na uwzględnieniu wielu różnych poziomów ryzyka w zakresie ogonów rozkładu, co dopuszcza różną dynamikę transferu ryzyka pomiędzy rynkami. W celu odpowiedniego zmierzenia ryzyka, mierzonego wartością zagrożoną, wykorzystano podejście Peaks over Threshold (POT) z modelami zmienności (McNeil, Frey, 2000).
    The main aim of this paper is an analysis of integration among main financial markets which represent financial and economic processes occurring in the contemporary world. This research focuses on issue of extreme risk spillover effect on financial markets. Proper understanding of risk transfer mechanism has paramount importance for effective risk management, financial institutions and market supervision institutions. In particular, extreme risk is the most important due the fact that the extreme prices movements are the main cause of threats and opportunities for market participants. This paper is the extension of previous researches on that issue. This extension takes into account the newest methodology framework which is Granger-causality test presented in work of Candelon et al. (2013). Innovation in this approach boils down to allowing for multiple different risk levels across distribution tails which takes into consideration different dynamics of risk transfer mechanism across markets. In order to estimate Value-at-Risk a Peaks over Threshold approach is applied with volatility models (McNeil, Frey, 2000).

    Opis:
    In this article, the creation of a thermal lift technology for oil wells through the use of installations with a solid oxide fuel cell has been discussed. The necessary calculations were carried out to determine the level of thermal activity in wells producing hydrocarbon resources of various compositions. Arrangements necessary to achieve this thermal activity based on solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are proposed. SOFC metric characteristics are proposed that are compatible with their additional phenomena, namely, material support, shape, etc. The threshold value of the operating thermal characteristic of SOFCs is obtained depending on the structural and physical properties of their material support. The most effective ways for determination of the required thermobaric parameters of the fluid in accordance with the formation area and product, development of a resource-saving complex for the production of percussion fluid in accordance with these parameters, determination of processing periodicity to manage the thermobaric condition of the formation area, assessment of impact on the formation area and other factors generalise them. The purpose of the article is to develop a technology for management the thermobaric condition of the area through alternative resource-saving energy systems (development of Thermolift technology), substantiation of operational parameters and creation of surface equipment. The scientific idea of the presented article significantly increases the mobility of their hydrocarbon reserves on the basis of the thermobaric action of working agents, which are the product of a resource-saving surface complex (i.e. by providing Thermolift technology) and, finally increases the operational efficiency of production wells and, as a result, the production capacity of the reservoirs.
    W niniejszym artykule omówiono powstanie technologii wyporu termicznego dla odwiertów ropnych przez zastosowanie instalacji z ogniwem paliwowym ze stałym tlenkiem. Przeprowadzono wymagane obliczenia w celu ustalenia poziomu aktywności termicznej w odwiertach eksploatujących zasoby węglowodorów o różnym składzie ropy naftowej. Zaproponowano układy niezbędne do osiągnięcia tej aktywności termicznej oparte na ogniwach paliwowych ze stałym tlenkiem (SOFC). Zaproponowano takie parametry wskaźników SOFC, które są zgodne z ich dodatkowymi cechami, takimi jak rodzaj zastosowanego materiału, kształt itd. Wartość progowa eksploatacyjnej charakterystyki termicznej SOFC uzależniona jest od właściwości strukturalnych i fizycznych zastosowanego do ich konstrukcji materiału. Związane jest to z najbardziej efektywnymi sposobami określenia wymaganych parametrów temperaturowo-ciśnieniowych eksploatowanego płynu w zależności od obszaru występowania formacji i produktu, opracowaniem bezpiecznego dla zasobów systemu produkcji płynu udarowego zgodnego z tymi parametrami, określeniem częstotliwości przetwarzania w celu zarządzania warunkami temperaturowo- ciśnieniowymi w obrębie formacji, czy też oceną oddziaływania w obszarze występowania formacji. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie opracowanej technologii do zarządzania warunkami temperaturowo-ciśnieniowymi obszaru złoża wykorzystującej alternatywne, pozwalające na oszczędne wykorzystanie zasobów, systemy energetyczne (technologia Thermolift), wraz z uzasadnieniem parametrów eksploatacyjnych i przedstawieniem osprzętu powierzchniowego. Naukową ideą niniejszego artykułu jest znaczące zwiększenie zakresu mobilności dostępnych zasobów węglowodorów dzięki temperaturowo-ciśnieniowemu działaniu czynników roboczych będących produktem systemu powierzchniowego pozwalającego na bardziej ekonomiczne wykorzystanie zasobów (tj. poprzez dostarczenie technologii Thermolift), a finalnie – zwiększenie wydajności operacyjnej odwiertów eksploatacyjnych, prowadzące w efekcie do wzrostu wydajności produkcyjnej złóż ropy naftowej.

    The co-occurrence of airborne allergenic pollen grains and fungal spores was estimated in Rzeszów in the years 2000- 2002. The volumetric method was used in this aerobiological study. Six taxa of pollen grains and fi ve types of fungal spores characterized by strong allergenicity and/or high concentrations in the air were analyzed. The time series of pollen grains and fungal spores were compared using PCA analysis. The periods of the greatest concentrations of tree pollen did not coincide with similar periods for herbaceous plants and fungal spores. From February to mid-March, Alnus pollen dominated in the air. The second period was characterized by Betula pollen. It occurred in April. Herbaceous pollen and fungal spores occurred in the air simultaneously (from mid May to the end of August), creating a risky situation for sensitized people. The periods of the highest concentrations of Epicoccum and Ganoderma fungal spores did not coincide with the same period for the examined plant taxa. In Rzeszów the probability of becoming exposed to very high concentrations of allergenic pollen and fungal spores at the same time was high, especially in July, when the highest concentrations of Poaceae, Alternaria and Cladosporium were noted. The hypersensitivity to only one plant or fungal allergen is rarely encountered. Under the present scenarios of global warming, pollen seasons of many taxa will be longer and sufferers will have year-long symptoms.
    Współwystępowanie alergizującego pyłku roślin oraz zarodników grzybów w powietrzu Rzeszowa badano przez okres 3 lat (2000-2002). Pomiary przeprowadzono metodą wolumetryczną. Do analizy wybrano sześć taksonów ziaren pyłku i pięć typów zarodników grzybów charakteryzujących się silną alergennością i/lub wysokimi stężeniami w powietrzu. Taksony, których okresy maksymalnych stężeń pokrywały się, zostały grupowane na podstawie analizy PCA. Na podstawie dendrogramu (metoda ConsLink) wyznaczono okresy charakteryzujące się podobieństwem przebiegu sezonów pyłkowych analizowanych taksonów. Od lutego do marca w powietrzu dominował pyłek olszy (Alnus), w kwietniu brzozy (Betula). Okres maksymalnych koncentracji pyłku drzew w powietrzu nie pokrywał się z podobnym okresem roślin zielnych i zarodników grzybów. Sezony pyłkowe roślin zielnych i okresy występowania maksymalnych stężeń zarodników grzybów pokrywały się w czasie (od maja do sierpnia). Według obecnych prognoz, na skutek ocieplania się klimatu, sezony pyłkowe będą się wydłużać. Ponieważ rzadko stwierdza się nadwrażliwość tylko na jeden alergen roślinny lub grzybowy okres zagrożenia dla alergików może znacząco się wydłużyć.

    Opis:
    Coal mining in Donbas is a global problem as it causes the destabilization of ecological landscapes. Spoil tips, covering almost 52% of the territory, alter the topography of the land, affect the ecosystem, and decrease soil fertility. The soils become degraded and are unsuitable for agricultural use. The occupation of the Donetsk region by the Russian Federation has suspended the observation and research of man-made influence on this territory, which is a major concern for the scientific community. To reduce the negative impact of spoil tips, it is necessary to slow down the process of pyrite oxidation and the formation of toxic substances, as well as the migration of heavy metals due to erosion. Biological reclamation with grass and woody plants can help in achieving this goal. Another urgent issue is the constant supervision and assessment of the suitability of the bedrock of coal mines for agricultural use. The study investigated the total and mobile content of heavy metals in the rock samples from the “South Donbaska-1” mine, ordinary chernozem (background soil), and vegetation growing on the spoil tip. The results showed that the content of Co, Cr, Cu, and Fe in the rock of the spoil tip is higher than in the background soils. The content of heavy metals gradually decreases as the distance from the spoil tip increases. The content of Pb in ordinary chernozem and rock is practically the same, indicating its active migration. An analysis of the biomass of plant samples growing on the spoil tip showed that the content of Co, Cu, and Zn was within the limits of the threshold limiting values. However, the content of other studied elements exceeded the permissible norms. The research results provide information on the ecological state of the spoil tip and can be used for recreational as well as reclamation works in these areas.

    The objective of this article is to examine how people value two different attributes of Value of Life Year (VOLY): life expectancy and the quality of life. The results of the first VOLY estimations conducted in Poland are discussed and compared with Polish cost-effectiveness thresholds for medical treatments in the period 2008–2020. The Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE) method was used to value two attributes of VOLY: increase in life expectancy and improvement in the quality of life. The VOLY research was conducted in two populations: general and dialysis. Depending on their current health status, people value increased life expectancy and improvement in health quality differently. In light of these results, the VOLY should be differentiated. Also in the Quality Adjusted Life Year (QALY) indicator, the weights of the attributes of length and quality of life should be varied according to different states of health. A uniform cost-effectiveness threshold is not justified from the perspective of stated preferences. Cost-effectiveness thresholds based on demand-side values should be differentiated. Current Polish cost-effectiveness thresholds are overestimated compared to valuations based on stated preferences. The article presents the first estimations of two attributes of VOLY: life expectancy and the quality of life, carried out in Poland.

    Chlorek allilu jest bezbarwną, żółtą lub czerwoną cieczą o charakterystycznym, nieprzyjemnym zapachu, przypominającym zapach czosnku. Narażenie zawodowe na chlorek allilu występuje w przemyśle chemicznym, gdzie chlorek allilu jest stosowany do wprowadzania grupy allilowej w syntezie organicznej, w przemyśle tworzyw sztucznych przy otrzymywaniu epichlorohydryny (składnika do produkcji żywic epoksydowych), w syntezie leków (barbiturany, diuretyki) oraz przy produkcji barwników, środków owadobójczych i gliceryny. W dostępnym piśmiennctwie nie znaleziono informacji o przypadkach zatruć ostrych chlorkiem allilu u ludzi. W badaniach na szczurach i myszach wartości LC50 chlorku allilu po dwugodzinnym narażeniu inhalacyjnym wyznaczono na poziomie około 11500 mg/m3. Wartości LD50 po podaniu dożołądkowym dla szczurów większość badaczy wyznaczyła na poziomie około 450 mg/kg m.c., co pozwala sklasyfikować chlorek allilu jako substancję szkodliwą. Wartość LD50 związku po podaniu na skórę królika wyznaczono na poziomie 2026 mg/kg m.c. Chlorek allilu w warunkach zawodowych wchłania się do organizmu przez drogi oddechowe i skórę. Jest związkiem działającym drażniąco na błony śluzowe oczu i górnych dróg oddechowych. Po narażeniu pracowników na chlorek allilu o stężeniu 78 mg/m3 obserwowano podrażnienie błony śluzowej nosa, w stężeniach 156 ÷ 312 mg/m3 związek działał drażniąco na oczy, natomiast związek o większych stężeniach wywoływał zapalenie spojówek, nadwrażliwość na światło oraz oparzenia rogówki. W badaniu działania drażniącego chlorku allilu na myszach wyznaczono wartość RD50 na poziomie 7293 mg/m3. U pracowników narażonych na chlorek allilu o stężeniach 3 ÷ 354 mg/m3 przez 16 miesięcy stwierdzono zmiany funkcjonalne w wątrobie manifestujące się wzrostem aktywności enzymów w surowicy krwi. Przewlekłe narażenie na chlorek allilu może być przyczyną występowania u ludzi obwodowych polineuropatii, które objawiają się bólami i osłabieniem siły mięśni, pogorszeniem czucia wibracji i dotyku, zanikiem odruchu skokowego, obniżeniem ciepłoty skóry, nadmiernym poceniem się stóp i dłoni oraz tkliwością uciskową łydek. Na podstawie 3-miesięcznych badań na szczurach szczepu Fischer 344 wyznaczono wartość NOAEL chlorku allilu dla efektu nefrotoksycznego na poziomie 157 mg/m3, natomiast wartość NOAEL dla działania neurotoksycznego na poziomie 17 mg/m3, na podstawie wyników pięciomiesięcznych badań na królikach oraz szczurach. Chlorek allilu działał mutagennie na szczepy Salmonella typhimurium TA 100, TA 1535 i TA 1538 w teście Amesa (z aktywacją metaboliczną i bez aktywacji metabolicznej), wykazano też wzrost częstości występowania mutacji punktowych u Saccharomyces cerevisiae oraz zmian w strukturze DNA Escherichia coli. Związek powodował również konwersję genów u Saccharomyces cerevisiae oraz indukował nieplanową syntezę DNA w komórkach raka szyjki macicy. W dostępnym piśmiennictwie nie ma danych dotyczących działania rakotwórczego chlorku allilu u ludzi. Międzynarodowa Agencja Badań nad Rakiem zaklasyfikowała chlorek allilu do grupy 3. Wartość najwyższego dopuszczalnego stężenia (NDS) chlorku allilu na poziomie 2 mg/m3 obliczono z wartości NOAEL dla działania neurotoksycznego wyznaczonego na poziomie 17 mg/m3 w pięciomiesięcznych badaniach na szczurach i królikach. Nie znaleziono podstaw do ustalenia wartości najwyższego dopuszczalnego stężenia chwilowego (NDSCh) oraz dopuszczalnego stężenia w materiale biologicznym (DSB).
    Allyl chloride is a synonym of the compound 3-chloropropene, also referred to as 3-chloro, 1-propene. Allyl chloride is a volatile, highly reactive, liquid halogenated hydrocarbon with a characteristic purgent (garlic-like) odor. The high-temperature chlorination of propylene is believed to be the only production method of allyl chloride used commercially. Allyl chloride is used as an intermediate in chemical reactions. The major commercial derivative of allyl chloride is epichlorohydrin which is used in the manufacture of epoxy resins. Allyl chloride is also important in commercial glycerol production. The major routes for occupational exposure to allyl chloride are dermal and inhalation. Allyl chloride is irritating to eyes, the skin and the upper respiratory tract. The effects of allyl chloride on human, after repeated or chronic exposure, are functional changes in the liver and kidneys. It also had an influence on CNS. Acute and chronic exposure to allyl chloride in animals has resulted in hepatic, renal and pulmonary damage. The LD50 value, following oral administration in rats, is 450 mg/kg body weight and 2026 mg/kg b.w. after dermal treatment. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified allyl chloride to Group 3 (not classifiable as to carcinogenicity to humans). The recommended maximum exposure limit (MAC) for allyl chloride is 2 mg/m3. No STEL and BEI have been proposed.

    In Polish hydrology and water management the term characteristic flow exists denoting a specific value of flow at the given cross-section of a river calculated as the long-term minimum, mean, median or maximum calculated using the annual minimum, mean, median or maximum flow taken for each year from a series of (usually) daily flows. Some of these characteristic flows are used to define the low-flow (o drought) periods while the another criterion: a percentage flow Qp taken from the long-term flow duration curve is also widely used. In the paper the study on the frequency structure the empirical exceedance probability of a given characteristic flow made for some low and average characteristic flows (SNQ, WNQ, NSQ and SSQ) is presented. The results show that the exceedance probability of a given characteristic flow is variable, and the amount of this variability may be large, as is the case of WNQ and NSQ. So assigning a characteristic flow to a single FDC quantile value Qp (as can be find in the literature) cannot be justified. Correlation analysis made for the pairs (P. , characteristic flow), ( P., catchment area) and (P. , gauging station elevation) revealed some significant correlations. Only for SNQ is not correlated at all; correlation for other characteristic flows is statistically significant for at least one of the cases. The highest correlations (greater than 0.4 in absolute values) were found for the pairs ( P, gauging station elevation) for NSQ and, for SSQ, ( P, SSQ) and ( P, catchment area).
