    Opis:
    The challenges that pastoral care in Poland has to face today are not less numerous than at the time when it was established several dozen years ago. It seems that we should begin our survey of these challenges from inidicating a group of challenges that may be called challenges to marraige and family. Here we find that the structure of marriage as a relationship between heterosexual persons: a husband and wife is more and more commonly questioned; marriage is questioned as the foundation of family; the processes of marital disintegration increase, divorces and remarriages; free unions that last for years. The causes for this group of challenges as ideaological or practical. Another group of challenges consists of separation due to economic reasons, mainly going abroad to work. This causes the increasing process of marrital disintegration, rapid growth of social orphans, old parents and often ill are left unattended by their adult emigrating children. It follows from job problems that the competitive model of interpersonal relations is extrapolated on the marrital bond. We have to add the issues of psychological and physical violence in the family, abortion and calls to legalise euthanasia. A further group of challenges consists of those related to sexual activity. Contraceptive mentality and practices are popular, the phenomenon of marrital infertility is increasing, life is conceived beyond its natural and marrital milieu. In view of the above challenges, pastoral care for families in Poland should change its legal-moral categories of marriage and family iinto sociological and theological, it should purify the image of God from its anthropomorphic elements. It depends much on this image that man can understand himself and build his marrital relationship. Another important issue is to link theological knowledge and adequate aspects of the particular sciences. This link must be methodologically correct in pastoral care. Theological knowledge shows a model of marriage and family, whereas the particular sciences provide practical solutions how to accomplish this model. All this calls for an ordering of basic concepts of marriage and family, as there is much disorder there. Eventually, such actions should bring about milieus of support for the family that would make it easier to defend the principal Christian values.

To ona określa warunki indywidualnego rozwoju osobowości jednostki, zaspakaja istotne potrzeby biologiczne i psychiczne, daje poczucie sensu życia, inspiruje do aktywności, ułatwia wrastanie w świat kultury oraz przyswajanie obowiązujących w nim norm i wartości, chroni i wspomaga w sytuacjach trudnych. W artykule przedstawiono analizę społecznych przemian zachodzących we współczesnej rodzinie i ich konsekwencje zwracając szczególną uwagę na tradycje, które wpływają na teraźniejszość i budują przyszłość.
    The family should be the most important and the safest educational environment, as having a family is essential at every stage of life. The family determines the conditions for the individual's personality development, satisfies important biological and psychological needs, gives a sense of life, inspires to be active, facilitates growing into the world of culture and adapting to the norms and values in it. The following article presents an analysis of selected social changes taking place in the contemporary family and their consequences, paying spe-cial attention to traditions that affect the present and create the future.

    Opis:
    Apart from the care for the families, the family ministry also deals with all the issues concerning the betrothed. The period of engagement is a special time that should be devoted to discussing the plans for the future such as: the choice of the place to live in, the duties of each spouse, the financial issues, the sexual issues, social life, leisure, bringing up children and preparing them for the responsible life in the light of their real vocation. The proper, valuable and responsible experience of the engagement period helps to overcome the modern threats. These include: pairing among teenagers − to be „only” with each other, the premarital „trial” cohabitation and the improper promotion of experiencing the engagement period in the media. The pastoral care of the family ministry for the future spouses is the action which will show them the appropriate way in order to help them to positively establish a successful marriage and family. The future spouses are supposed to decide to get married by an act of personal choice which should be well thought out, free and prayed for.
